Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Lindsey Kelk for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Am I still reading Christmas books even after Christmas? Yes, Yes I am. This one was really good. I loved the premise of this one. Reliving the same day over and over again.
Gwen was a likeable character and the character growth and happiness they all find really made me smile.
The Christmas Wish wasn't quite what I'd expected, but I still enjoyed it. It's another groundhog day Christmas book. Gwen Baker is a newly single lawyer whose career is hanging on by a thread. She is heading home to the country to spend Christmas with her family and repeatedly gets stuck in the loop. She tries to stop it from repeating, but she can't figure it out. This book was light-hearted and comical at times. It was not so much romance but had more family shenanigans and funny times. It was a cute seasonal read with its warm and fuzzy ending to curl up with a hot beverage.

This was such a cute Christmas romance! The characters were adorable and relatable. I loved the small town setting and country setting. This was well paced and very easy to visualize as I was reading. It definitely was a take on GroundHogs Day, just the Christmas version.

[Mini REVIEW: The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk]
I’m swooning! What a bunch of fun this cozy little Christmas read was!
I’m off to decorate some cookies with the kiddos in my life but quickly…
Here’s what I loved about this one:
-LGBTQ rep
-cast of memorable family members with a healthy dose of sibling rivalry
-Christmas morning time loop in a snowy, British countryside setting
-Whacky gifts, childhood memories, sweet holiday traditions
And lastly…a MC Gwen, who leaves a well paying, long time career simply because it no longer serves her. This was ✨magically✨ the right book at the right time for me! I appreciated the heart of the story and the “princess saves herself” conclusion.
For fans of: The Holiday (film), One Day in December (book)
Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas—countryside, a mountain of food and festive films—will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer.
I really enjoyed reading The Christmas Wish! It had Hallmark feels for me with the groundhog day aspect. It had a few slow bits but the ending was my favorite!
This book is definitely one of my new favs! Because wir fulfilled one of my favorite aspects: family. But furthermore it’s super funny ( I will never be able to hate a romcom ).
I got so close to the characters and loved each of them and the book had me smile and laugh soo many times!
This is really a feel good comfort read <3
The only con is that it started a little slow but it was worth it :)
Thanks netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Gwen is going home for Christmas put those things her family doesn’t know one she broke up with her boyfriend Mike oh he broke up with her rather because he cheated on her and two she’s taking Aleve from work because she had a nervous break down in the middle of a client interview but her cousin me a name convinced her it would be in her best interest to go home for Christmas and so she does. The first sign that things weren’t going to go well was one her dad pulled her vibrator for Christmas he kept referring to it as a back massage everyone else in the room knew exactly what it was then the next day her sister Caprice shows up and tells the whole family that Gwen Hatten been working because she threw a stapler at a client… Not exactly how it happened and Gwen certainly didn’t want the family to find out this way but it can’t get any worse can it… Yes it can when you have to relive the day over and over again until you get it right. This was the most screamingly hilarious book I have read in such a long time. I laughed so hard that I couldn’t read it in public this is so OMG lol funny I wish I would’ve read it sooner and will definitely read it again. I loved it and highly recommend it I would say it reminded me of Groundhog Day which was so super hilarious but I do think this book is funnier I’m being totally honest. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This was such a great holiday romance read! I loved the Groundhog Day theme in this book. I think the author did a great job with it. I flew through this book. I found myself not wanting to put it down. I highly recommend checking it out!
4-4.5 stars
Cute, charming, and laugh-out-loud sarcastically funny! (NOT CHEESY at all - which I find many holiday romance books extremely cheesy and can never get into).
I really enjoyed this one!
The perfect holiday read! It was a cute Christmas, closed door romance. Ground hogs day of Christmas stories.
I loved all the characters. The family interactions were hilarious. I also enjoyed the small town vibes from her childhood home. Every part of this book left me feeling warm and fuzzy.
Happy Endings all around is just what you want from a holiday book!!
4.5 Stars
This is such a perfect holiday read! I wasn't quite sure if I was going to enjoy this book when I started reading, but the characters just grew on me and I found myself loving so much about it. The family theme and the humour really give this book such a fantastic and warm feeling. Looking forward to reading more of this author's books!
I wanted to love this book, I really did! A cute, easy to read holiday rom com- perfect!! Except this was about 20% rom and 80% com and 100% Groundhog Day, which I have figured out just isn’t my vibe. The author’s writing is witty and hilarious, and I found myself laughing out loud at parts, but I had a hard time getting into the story. It wasn’t until the book was almost over that I found myself truly invested- probably because that’s when Dev showed up more 😂 I think had i reframed my expectations for what this book was, I would have enjoyed it more. Gwen and the chaos that was her family were a hot mess- I was obsessed with Manny- and ultimately, their journey and growth was what this book was about. Family and discovering what truly brings you happiness in your life!
I’ve seen SO many wonderful reviews for this book, so please don’t let me dissuade you from reading it! If you love British chick lit, Groundhog Day vibes, and lol writing, this book will be just what you’re looking for!
I was so excited for this book but unfortunately, I just wasn't able to get into it or the characters.. which was a bummer. it seemed like something was missing. Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me this for my honest review.
I tried to read this one, but I don't think I was able to get into the plot five chapters in so I did not continue reading it. I have it for future to give it a try next Christmas season again.
More of a 4.5 star for me! I wouldn't necessarily classify this as a rom-com, since the romance aspect was really in the background, but more of a family dramedy. Much heavier on the comedy, but enough serious elements to give it substance. The story follows Gwen, a London lawyer whose life is coming down around her, as she returns home up North for Christmas. Her longtime boyfriend left her for his secretary and she's on administrative leave from her job after fighting back unwanted advances from a creepy client. Back at home, she has to juggle all the personalities of her family, including her sister and her boorish husband who hate her, her overwhelmed mother, and recently retired and bored father. After an awkward attempt at a set up by her mother at a neighborhood mixer and a run-in with her childhood crush, Dev, Gwen wakes up the following morning to find that she is somehow stuck in a time-loop, doomed to repeat Christmas day until she can grant the wishes of her family. Like Groundhog Day, some of these loops took a dark, fatal turn, yet were always balanced with the laugh out loud wit I've come to expect from the author. Towards the end of the story I found myself getting impatient, and wanting the time loop to be broken already, and that's the only thing that kept me from a 5 star rating. But of all the Christmas books I've read this season, this was among the best, checking all my boxes for a feel good British holiday rom-com.
Fun Christmas read.
I enjoyed the story and characters were easy to like. This book can easily put you in a holiday spirit.
Thank you Netgalley, Harper 360, HarperCollins and the author for free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This wasn't a bad read, by any means; however, I didn't totally connect to the story, the characters, or the humor. That said, the premise was interesting and I did enjoy it all taking place on Christmas.
Merry... Groundhogs day!
This book is very very stressful. All you want to do the whole time is yell at the plot and make the groundhogs day nonsense stop because all you want is for the FMC to be happy!!! I really enjoyed how Lindsey Kelk is able to make her main character very relatable and normal. A lot of authors try, and fail, to make their characters relatable and normal. They end up being cringey and difficult to relate to. That was not an issue here. Gwen was actually normal and someone I could see myself as. Her inner monologue was hilarious and fun to read.
While I didn't think I would enjoy the plot and the waking up and being in the same day over and over again, I actually found myself enjoying this theme. While I did want to shake my kindle and make the madness end, it wasn't in a bad way of "MAKE THIS STOP!!!" it was an "I JUST WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY!!!".
If you're looking for a fun and quick holiday read, The Christmas Wish is for you. The second you meet Gwen, you're going to love her. She's fun, quirky, and loves to make pop culture references. And you will swoon over her journey unfolding.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was cute and fluffy while also tackling some heavier topics. Perfect read for this time of year when you just want to escape into a book.
Thank you Net Galley for the advanced copy.
Just could not get into this one and then completely lost me at the groundhogs day comparison. Wish i could have gotten through it!
