Love story, check. 10 repeat Christmases, check. British humor thrown in, big check. What a fun, Groundhog Day type story. The lesson to be learned is discovering what makes you happy. Definitely one to add to your holiday reading list!
Thank you, NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC! The Christmas Wish reminded me of Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze. This book was more comical than anticipated which I loved. I also liked how the main Character Gwen “relived” Christmas over and over again with each day effecting different characters. It had me guessing of what could go wrong and with who each time. A cute holiday read!
The Christmas Wish is a Groundhog Day style Christmas story with a good message. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a little more substance than romance in their holiday read.
This was such a fun read! Although I’ve read several Groundhog Day type books recently, The Christmas Wish did not come off as a retread. Instead, it read just like a fun British rom com, perfect for the Christmas season. Gwen has not had the best time of it lately- her boyfriend of 4 years broke up with her for his receptionist, she’s on leave from her law firm, and now she’s stuck in a time loop at her childhood home. I loved how Kelk developed her characters with flaws but also kept me laughing throughout. This was the perfect read for the Christmas weekend and I’m grateful my bestie sent it to me.
I wish it could be Christmas everyday … or not? Lindsey Kelk is back with another delightful novel, this time of the holiday variety - The Christmas Wish! I previously read her book In Case You Missed It, which had me in stitches, so I was excited to pick up this humorous holiday read. Surprisingly enough, despite being amusing, this novel in which a 30-something woman relives a cringe-worthy Christmas Day over and over again is also incredibly insightful.
After a disastrous Christmas Day, Gwen Baker, newly single by way of a cheating boyfriend and unsure about her career future at her prestigious law firm, wakes up to discover it is Christmas Day … over and over again. How many times can Gwen relive all of her Christmas nightmares before she gets it right? As she tests out different theories, trying to find the key that will unlock Christmas playing on loop, she learns more about her family’s hopes and dreams, as well as her own, and gets closer to the handsome guy next door. This is definitely a Christmas to remember and one that will have Gwen learning more about herself and her loved ones than ever before.
Lindsey Kelk masterfully mixes humor and heart in The Christmas Wish! When you throw family together at the holidays, tensions are bound to run high, and Kelk perfectly captures all of these merry mishaps in her book. Main character Gwen is witty, funny, and slightly self-destructive, and it’s a lot of fun watching her live Christmas Day on repeat, getting it drastically wrong every time. As she searches for her truth in each Christmas scenario, Gwen discovers what she truly wants out of life, making this introspective novel a great transition read to go from the joys of Christmas to the fresh starts of the New Year.
Thank you for the advanced reader copy of this cute Groundhog Day holiday novel. I loved the premis of this book and how easily the plot flowed.
This is a delightful holiday romance book. The best of the 3 I've read so far this year. It hit all the perfect notes of having both humor and heart. I loved that the story of self-discovery, family healing, and romance, all unwrapped together simultaneously in a pleasant way. Though the idea of a day that repeats over and over again has obviously been done before in books and film, this idea didn't feel recycled or old here. Overall a pleasant read to be snowed in with.
Thank you for sending me this eARC!
This groundhog day style, christmas romance novel was a very well written and enjoyable experience! I loved getting to know Gwen and Dev's characters.
I hope everyone else enjoys this book as much as I did!
The Christmas Wish, by Lindsey Kelk, is an incredibly charming, comedic, but deeply thoughtful Christmas story set in Derbyshire, England. It a festive, Christmas tale complete with all the British holiday traditions and humorous antics that often occur at family gatherings.
We follow a young woman, Gwen Baker, who looks forward to spending Christmas Day with her family. She’s desperately hoping they won’t notice the fact that she’s not only not with her longtime boyfriend, but also not currently employed in her prestigious job her father is so impressed with. In an attempt to forget her unfortunate circumstances, Gwen hopes to lose herself in the festivities of Christmas, but somehow finds herself stuck in a kind of Groundhog Day scenario where she has to relive Christmas Day with her family again and again, which didn’t turn out all that well the first time around. This bizarre situation forces her to look at each of the relationships in her life and to re-examine them with the mindset of helping them achieve their greatest Christmas wish, including her own.
This story definitely has a light romantic element to it which is charming and sweet, but it’s emphasis is more on self-reflection, finding one’s own happiness, and personal growth. It’s an unusually insightful story for a Christmas book, with a lovely message, but also fun comedic banter. There are a few elements I wasn’t a fan of, but overall it is a unique and meaningful story and a new favorite of mine.
Disclaimer - I received a free digital copy of this book for an honest review.
10/10 this is now one of my new favorite Christmas reads!
I originally requested a copy of this book because I saw Emily Henry had given it a review, so I knew I could not go wrong with this book THANK YOU, QUEEN. I started reading this while reading another book, but that book down and inhaled this book in like two days it was so cute!
Gwen Baker, a London lawyer, is going home for the holidays with her totally lovable cousin Manny. Not in the slightest bit of holiday spirit can be found in Gwen, as recently her life has begun to crumble around her, so when she finds herself living the Groundhogs Day of Christmas - repeating the same day over and over she is living in a true nightmare.
Gwen has to figure out why this is happening, and how to escape to a tomorrow that never seems to come. Each day has emotion, completely relatable family dysfunctionality, humor and hijinks, and even a little splash of a budding romance. What Christmas story wouldn't have a romance boy-next-door subplot, right?!
Amazing writing style, unique characters, and SO relatable!
Kindle is the only way I can read now that I always have one hand full 🥰
Just finished my NetGalley copy of The Christmas Wish. It was face paced, light hearted, and the pop culture references made me LOL. I will be checking out Lindsey Kelk’s other books 📚

Groundhog day meets Christmas.
Gwen wakes up 9 days in a row relieving Christmas sober and over. She has to figure out how to get to the next day in a story of finding yourself...and love?
This was such a cute Christmas romance. I wasn't sure if I would like the repetitiveness of reliving the same day over and over, but I actually loved it. Each time she relive the day it was so different. I really liked how each day kind of focused on a different member of the family. We got to know each character so well. I also really liked how everything resolved and wrapped up, especially in the epilogue of next years Christmas. I really enjoyed this book!
This was a cute little Groundhogs day mixed with Christmas. Struggling lawyer to keep her job but also trying to make her family happy. It's hard for any working mother. While I thought it was very slow and redundant, I did think the idea of the book was cute.
The Christmas Wish Book Review
Genre/ Trope: Christmas book, contemporary fiction, romance, childhood best friends, small town, friends to lovers

Gwen Baker is headed to her small English countryside hometown for the holidays. Her goal is to avoid conversations about the jerk ex boyfriend who broke her heart and her career as a lawyer that’s hanging by a thread. Can she do it while not arguing with her sister, dodging insults from her brother in law, and reacquainting herself with her boy next door childhood crush? All things are possible when she wakes up the day after Christmas reliving the holiday all over again. With the holiday playing on repeat, Gwen may figure out some things are simply unavoidable.
🎄After reading the book synopsis provided, I was under the impression that this was a romance Christmas read. After reading it, i would say “The Christmas Wish” is more of a Christmas contemporary fiction about a young woman facing her truths and exploring self discovery with a side of a romantic plot.
🎄Gwen’s family members had distinct characteristics that set them apart from each other. The reader is able to appreciate Gwen’s relationship with each character when she’s helping them acquire their Christmas wishes on this Christmas Day merry go round.
🎄The amount of times the day repeated felt never ending and frustrating. The monotony of it took away from the important points of the plot.
🎄There were several witty one liners that had me chuckling aloud and her romance with her neighbor crush turned hot cardiologist was endearing.
🎄Overall, “The Christmas Wish” was a cute easy holiday read that is perfect for this time of year!
Super cute, easy read! I loved all the references to pop culture, I found them really funny. If you like childhood friends to lovers, read this book!
4.5⭐️
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk was a joy to read. I laughed out loud a lot because I have the same scene of humor as the author. It was a sort of mishmash of Ground Hog Day, It’s a Wonderful Life and Lucille Ball tagging along. Parts of this was hilarious!
The family wasn’t very likable to start but I grew to love all of them.
This novel was different and I thought it was well done. I recommend it if you love Christmas.
Thanks Harper Collins via NetGalley.
An enjoyable read! If you enjoy the movie Groundhog Day, you'll really like this Christmas everyday story! Gwen Baker is a lawyer who goes home to see her family for Christmas. After being newly single, she had been down in the dumps, and it doesn't help that her family, especially her sister, have been making jabs at her because of it. But soon she finds out that her old crush next door is back home for the holidays as well! Gwen's goals are to figure out how to take Christmas off repeat, get along with her family, and develop a relationship (if there's a chance) with her crush. Lots of humor and a fun read! I just wish there was more focus on the love story and less on the family drama.
4.75 rounded to 5!
Gwen Baker is a newly single, big city lawyer, who has returned to her quiet hometown for a lowkey Christmas with her family. After spending a few months shutting herself away with her leftover feelings from a painful breakup, she is forced to reexamine her life and what she truly wants in order to end a Groundhog Day time loop. Gwen, much to her chagrin, finds herself repeating Christmas day over and over. Luckily, she finds some relief in the form of a handsome neighbor, who just happens to be her former childhood crush. But is he actually the cure?
Okay, this was the holiday read I had been wanting to find! This book is funny, cute and almost fluffy. While there are some mentions of cheating (past partner), sibling rivalry/dysfunctional family, grief (past), and disciplinary leave from employment, the book still has an overall lighter feel.
I found this story to have a somewhat similar premise to another holiday book I recently finished - except this book was done 100% better. These characters were more fleshed out, the story was more complete, and the banter/humor was top notch. In my opinion, the pacing for the time loop was also perfect. Gwen didn't immediately solve the "problem" and she didn't solve it in the sole way that you'd assume. The time loop also didn't begin immediately, which I feel was important as it allowed the characters and story to gain some traction first.
Truthfully, I did wish we had learned a little more about current day Dev. Although, I may have just read too many dual POV stories before this one. However, the final chapter did help with that. Despite everyone and everything ending in a way you would hope, the final chapter did not feel like the forced/rushed epilogue that we commonly see.
Holiday read - check
One liners - check
Family drama - check
This was a cute christmas romcom. It's a GroundHogs Day story where the MC experiences Christmas day over and over. And while she does this, she realizes that she has feelings for her next door neighbor/childhood crush.
I enjoyed this, but it was just okay for me. If you love Christmas stories and the concept of living the same day over and over, making different choices and seeing different results, you'll likely enjoy this.
