3.5 rating but with NetGalley & Goodreads I am rounding up to 4
I have been wanting a good Christmas read, & I finally found it! I went into this one pretty blind since I had forgot what this one was about. I loved this read so much, it was a pleasant surprise that this one didn’t fall into the same typical Holiday loop I feel like I have been stuck in!
The family dysfunction in this story were written so well, I had some good laughs and some good sighs with this one, I was about to actually feel like the characters were real with how well this was written, This will be on my top Holiday reads of 2022
This book reminded me a lot of In a Holidaze. I thought it was a cute story, but it didn’t really hold my interest and took me a while to finally finish.
Gwen Baker is newly single, on leave from her job for an incident, and is on the way to spend Christmas with her family... what could go wrong? After an extremely eventful and stressful Christmas spent with family that didn't necessarily end that way she would have like, Gwen wakes up to find herself being forced to do it again. And again. And again. In a Christmas groundhog day's situation, Gwen finds out that everything isn't always as it seems and that life has many twists and turns that can lead to beautiful outcomes.
This might be one of my favorite Christmas stories that I have ever read. As a protagonist, Gwen is just a delight. She is set in her ways, but is able to grow, learn, and flourish. I absolutely loved the side characters of Dev and Manny who is a doll. I also loved all the pop culture references in the story, from Bravo to Taylor Swift. Felt like I for sure could be best friends with Gwen. The story was such a fun new take on a Christmas story, and I left feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside with SO much Christmas Spirit. I highly recommend this book for the comfy cozy vibes and such a funny but heartwarming story.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this fantastic Christmas read! All opinions in this review are my own.
Review will be posted on 12/21
Gwen Baker is newly single and her job as a lawyer is in question after an incident at work. She is heading home for the holidays to her childhood home of Baslow. While there, she has to deal with her family's expectations as well as her critical sister. Plus, there's all the holiday chaos of a family coming together under one roof along with all of their physical and mental baggage. Things start to get extra weird when Gwen finds herself stuck in a time loop. She is repeating the same 24 hours of Christmas over and over again. While this is 100% stressful, she starts to realize thing about her friends and family as well as herself. The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a very fun and hilarious holiday read reminiscent of Groundhog Day.
I liked Gwen right from the start of The Christmas Wish. She had a meltdown at work, which seems a bit extreme, but she has absolutely had it with this one client. Now she isn't sure if she will be fired and she has to return home to tell her dad this bad news. He has always admired her work as a lawyer, so this will be disappointing to him. On top of it, she is newly single and won't be bringing anyone home to Christmas this year. Her sister, Cerys, and her family will be there and things don't always go well with her overly critical sister and her inappropriate brother-in-law. Thank goodness her cousin, Manny, will be there with her to help her through the mess.
And by mess, I mean the fact that Gwen wakes up and it's Christmas Day again in. She finds herself stuck in this time loop with no way out. It's exhausting, but she starts to realize not only some things about herself, but also her family members. She sees things in a new light and this time loop not only gives her time to reconnect with her sister, but also with Dev, her childhood crush who lives next door. Could he actually have feelings for her too after all this time or are the rumors true that he is engaged?
The absolute best parts of The Christmas Wish are the funny holiday antics as well as the witty banter. I was laughing out loud, which I rarely do when I read a book. So much so that I was in public in a waiting room and shaking with silent laughter. Kelk really hits it out of the park with her British dry humor, her one-liners, as well as the hilarious situations her characters find themselves in during a family holiday get-together.
I really needed a laugh this holiday season, so easily I can say that The Christmas Wish is my favorite holiday book of the year. I highly recommend it if you need something funny, light, and a character who will remind you of Bridget Jones. So, have you read The Christmas Wish? Is it on your TBR list? Wow! What a great Christmas read! I'll admit that at first I wasn't really sure if I was going to be able to get in to the story, however as soon as the twist took place I was hooked. I'm a sucker for stories with personal and relationship growth, and this book had both and I think it was done well. I also love friends to lovers as a trope, and was happy to find that this book delivered all that and more! As an American, I will admit some of the lingo was a bit confusing and I even laughed at some of it. I will definitely read more from this author. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light, fluffy Christmas-time read. Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for allowing me to read and review this book.
When I first read the synopsis for this book I was honestly less than thrilled to find I was about to read yet another Christmas Ground Hog Day-esque time loop novel. With that being said I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The characters are well-developed and they're a realistic dysfunctional family. I think a lot of great lessons can be learned from this book and the different things each family member is going through unbeknownst to their loved ones. I really enjoyed seeing the main character Gwen's growth as she helped each of her family members get their Christmas wish.
The book follows newly cheated on and dumped, Gwen Baker who is headed home for the holidays. Christmas day goes as expected. She has a fight with her sister and upsets her father's dream for her career. Everyone else seems to have it all together including her childhood crush next door neighbor Dev.
The next day Gwen awakes to find it is Christmas day again and all of the disagreements start over. As she tries to find her way out of this hellious time loop, she finds herself enjoying Dev's company each day. Unfortunately Dev can't remember their interactions from the days before. Gwen continues to hunt for a way out of the time loop as she finds herself falling for Dev.
A fun holiday read with heart. It's like the movie Groundhog Day except it's Christmas. If you are looking for a lighthearted holiday read check this one out. I received the ARC from netgalley for an honest review.
This story follows Gwen Baker who goes back to her countryside home to spend the holidays with her family. Her career as a Lawyer is at risk, her boyfriend left her for his secretary, and she keeps repeating the same day over and over in a “Groundhog’s Day” time loop.
Despite the chaos and family drama, Gwen spends each day making her family’s wishes come true.
This story had many laugh out loud moments, chaos, and second chance romance between Gwen and her childhood crush Dev. The book had Hallmark movie vibes and was an enjoyable Christmas read.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My Christmas Wish 🎄
“𝑇𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑦𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦. 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑡.”
Seriously laugh out loud funny. So much so, my boyfriend would look over at me and ask about it. This book was definitely categorized wrong as a romance. It was more of a coming into self, comedy with a touch of romance. I think for this reason I was let down the first half of the book wishing for romance? Once I let go of that notion I really started to enjoy it.
Groundhog Day style without being over-repetitive. This really played out like a movie in my head and wish it would become one. Perfect light-hearted read for the holidays. I’m excited to keep this author on my radar and see what she does next!
Ty for the ARC!

Another perfect holiday book... in the books! The Christmas Wish was a lovely and very relatable holiday book. I connected so much with Gwen and really enjoyed the groundhog day feel to the story. Definitely will be seeking out more books by this author!
I actually enjoyed this one. It was cute and the story progressed smoothly. I sometimes feel that “Groundhog Day” stories are overdone but I think this one was great. Cute and cozy for the Christmas season!
More of a heartwarming Christmas tale than a love story, but I really loved The Christmas Wish! A "Groundhog Day" story, Gwen spends her Christmas trying to fulfill the wishes of her family members and friends in order to get out of the infinite loop of living Christmas Day over and over again. I loved Gwen's spirit, and the colorful characters in the story. I wouldn't call this a comedy, but the humor added to the fun of the story. Cute Christmas read.
Once again, I'm the odd one out with a three star review. I think that the story was a bit too focused on family drama rather than romance and comedy, which is why I didn't fall in love with it and struggled to keep reading at times.

After, I started this book I could not put it down. Set in the countryside north of London, Gwen is stuck living Christmas over and over. Each day she learns something new about each of her family members and herself.
After thoroughly enjoying this read, I decided The Christmas Wish is my favorite Christmas rom-com (although an atypical one) for 2022. Featuring a “Groundhog Day” type loop, workaholic London lawyer, Gwen Baker, finds herself in the enviable (or questionable) position of reliving Christmas Eve with her family over and over. Author Lindsey Kelk uses the device to take the story to another level as a charming, but flawed, cast of characters works through romantic relationships, family drama and a wide range of life lessons. She adds in a good dose of holiday cheer and laugh out loud humor for good measure.
Even though it was a bit slow in places, and the plot pushes the believability factor a bit far in a few spots, the characters and their stories were endearing and entertaining enough to redeem any minor hiccups. I predict this holiday read will entertain a lot of readers.
FYI - I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“The Christmas Wish” by Lindsey Kelk is such a sweet holiday novel! When newly single Gwen heads home for the holidays, she is hoping to find healing and distraction from all that is wrong in her life. She finds that her next door neighbor, Dev, is also home for the holidays and even though he is now grown, he is still the sweet boy she remembers. Gwen wakes the next morning to realize she is living Christmas Day all over again. This book is full of cute banter and lovable characters! Thanks so much to NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.
This book was a cute story.
I love how through reliving Gwen was focused on trying to help a different member of her family each day thinking that by helping them that would fix the timeline. It made her seem less selfish even though it was for selfish reasons. I loved the interactions she was able to have especially with her mother.
The sad part to me is that her family will never remember those moments moving forward and her mother will never truly know just how much she tried to help her out.
Things I didn't like.
HER DAD.
I get it, it was literally a huge part of the story but I found myself getting so angry at him and how he treated his daughters and that he was constantly looking at his life with regrets.
Overall I liked this story it was a fun holiday read and a quick one at that. I look forward to reading more from Lindsey Kelk in the future
Thank you netgalley, publisher and author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this about 40% through. It was extremely slow burn with no real plot other than her being in love with her neighbor and having to relive Christmas over and over again. Just wasn't for me.
Loved this holiday book, this is what Holidaze by Christina Lauren’s wishes it had been! I loved the believable Groundhog Day scenario and how much the character grows, not by anyone else but by her own ability to take stock and make changes. This author’s writing style had me loling for real, which is always an added bonus.
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a Christmas twist on Groundhog Day. Gwen finds herself dreading her family Christmas since she’s been down on her luck. Her long-term boyfriend kicked her out, and her job at a prestigious law firm is in jeopardy. Christmas #1 starts with a bang, and Gwen wakes up only to find Christmas has repeated itself, again and again.
It’s up to Gwen to figure out how to fix the time loop by helping each of her loved ones find their happiness. In typical Lindsey Kelk fashion, this book is funny and heartwarming, and the perfect Christmas book!
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for the copy to review. The Christmas Wish is out now.
