"Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts' has a red headed male lead character! I want to shout it from the rooftops!!!! Declan Walsh is the star of this book, and I wish that I could have read something from his point of view. I'm partial to red haired men because my husband is a red head, and I feel like red haired men are always seen as creepy or weird. Declan was none of those things, and I'm here for it.

Margo and her best friend, Jo, have a podcast called "Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts' where they discuss seven rules to live by, if you don't want to be dating or attached to anyone. The rules are meant to be a guide to living the single life, but all of that changes when Jo announces her engagement. Now, Jo and Margo are faced with how to continue their podcast about being single when one of them isn't single anymore.

Margo goes to a beautiful resort for two weeks to help Jo get ready for her wedding. While they are there, she is forced to spend time with her high school nemesis, Declan Declan is the best man in the wedding while Margo is the maid of honor. As they spend time together, Margo comes up with a plan- she will break all of her dating rules as an experiment for their podcast. She will use Declan for the experiment.

I loved the chemistry between Margo and Declan, and I enjoyed her friendship with Jo. There were parts of the story that I didn't like. I didn't like Margo's heavy focus on podcasting, especially when she should have been focused on Jo's wedding. I wanted her to be a better friend to Jo, and I wanted her to be honest with all of the other characters.

Because of the strength of Declan's character, I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I think the book could benefit from hearing Declan's point of view so we could see another side of Margo's character. To be honest, I wanted to know what he saw in her because at some points, her strengths were unclear.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book. I definitely recommend it! Add it to your beach bag right now and get ready for a fun romance with some steaminess and some heart!

Thank you to a NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I want to start out by saying I think the writing was good and I did enjoy the theme of the book. The biggest problem I had was with Margo just not being fleshed out. She came off incredibly selfish, and she really never got better to me. Also there were a lot of random unnecessary characters that I can't understand why they were in the story.

This just wasn't for me but I was not bored so I still finished it.

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts was a delightful rom com that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun read with a swoon worthy love interest!

Go (Margo) and Jo are podcast hosts that talk all about being single and not catching feelings. When Jo decides to get married, Margo is thrown off her game and feeling resentful as the wedding vacation begins. Her high school nemesis, Declan, just happens to be the best man in the wedding. As they get to know one another, she realizes that her original assumptions about him may have been off base.

I thought the podcast angle was fun, but was glad that the book was more focused on Margo developing feelings for a man for the first time in her life. Her personal growth throughout the book was interesting to watch, and I was really rooting for her and Declan after a major misunderstanding threatened to derail them. I adored Declan, a study of opposites with his nerdy side and his take charge side. Their chemistry was on fire and I loved the moments focused on this pair!

This is a well written debut novel that I read in a day. Compulsively readable, entertaining, and will be a perfect beach read with its May release date!

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Griffin for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book: Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Margot, the host of a podcast with her friend Jo about living the single life by following seven rules to keep yourself from catching feelings, is at a weird place in her life. Following a whirlwind romance, Jo is getting married. As the podcast winds down, Margot decides to try breaking her rules with the best man, Declan.

First of all, Declan is now the love of my life. He is SO CUTE. I absolutely fell in love with how sweet and genuine he is and the banter between him and Margot was fun.

Margot was a character I really resonated with. She was hurt from seeing failed relationships growing up and her rules were to protect herself until she realized it was just making her unhappy.

Margo and her best friend Jo host a podcast about staying single. Jo then gets engaged. What will they do for content for the show?! Margo decides she'll break all the rules and document her experience. You can pretty much guess that it's not a good idea and things don't turn out so well but what happens after? Is she going to choose love when all these years she's pushed it away?

I really loved this romcom. Enemies to lovers is my favorite!

Margo, “Go”, and her best friend, “Jo”, have an anti-dating podcast that outline seven rules for staying single. When Jo gets engaged and married, Margo finds herself wondering what to do for the next season of the podcast, and dealing with the social media fall-out of not being authentic. At Jo’s wedding Margo connects with someone from her past, and finds herself catching feelings – which goes against everything she stands for. When things take a turn and Margo herself is called out online, she scrambles and tries to pick up all the pieces. Will she be able to figure things out before its too late?

The premise of this book was fun – two friends who have a podcast about staying single – but then one gets married! WHAT!!! That’s off brand. But of course, after six years something was bound to change. I loved the disaster that was Margo’s life. It was fun to watch her go through the trouble she did but then how she picked up the pieces was marvelous. She was amazing at pivoting – which can be a hard thing to do! I enjoyed the mixed media format of this book as well, when I’m reading about social media and the like, I enjoy the snippets of posts, podcasts and emails. For me its easier to visualize than it just being described. The emails were an added touch and made me chuckle at their accuracy. Overall, this is a really cute and fun love story.

Check this one out for yourself on May 16th!

Summary: Margo (Go) Anderson is sworn off commitment. Alongside her best friend Jo, she runs a viral podcast featuring rules for hooking up without catching feelings. Jo surprises her by deciding to get married, using a corporate sponsor to foot the bill for the event. Jo and Go are nearing the end of their podcast run. Go is on a mission for new content while Jo is in wedding mode. Go decides to break her own rules in an effort to gain content for the final season of the podcast. Go runs into an old high school classmate, Declan, who just happens to be the groom’s best friend me best man. Go chooses to use Declan to break the rules, but to her surprise, lets down her guard and falls in love with Declan. Their relationship is far from smooth sailing….

Thoughts: This is my first book by this author. This book took me awhile to finish. The beginning was slow to build. I became invested in Margo and Declan’s characters. I found myself rooting for them to have their happily ever after. Jo was my least favorite character. Although it was her wedding that brought Margo and Declan together, I felt Jo was extremely shallow and too selfish for someone who was supposed to be Margo’s best friend since childhood. The rest of the wedding party’s story lines left me feeling that the book would’ve been better without elaborating on their characters. I found myself relating to Margo’s character as someone who has built walls to shut people out to prevent getting hurt. I enjoyed seeing Margo soften into a more likeable character. Overall, I enjoyed this book which is why I gave it a four star rating.

This book was a whirlwind. I truly don’t know if I loved it or hated it but definitely was something I found a lot of entertainment from. Jo and Go made me cringe ngl, just the fact that’s what they went by lol. But I felt like the part about Jo breaking all the rules was so rushed and not really talked abt despite it essentially being the plot for Go’s whole story arc. I also feel like there was no character development, we learned Margo had a codependency issue and that was it. I wish there was more in the struggles she had with the new podcast bc it felt as if she used erin and Declan as a new clutch. But I loved Declan, a little nerdy redhead who can’t talk to girls the cutest ever. But also within that I wish he stood up for himself more but I think that’s just not the kind of guy he is. it’s hard maybe I’m projecting lol but some of the moments between him and Margot were truly the cutest. Wish this book was a bit longer so it had the opportunity to go through a bit more character development or background for them but a good nice and sweet short book.

Margo and her friend Jocelyn have been running a podcast for years, talk all about how to hook up and not catch feelings. Imagine the listeners surprise when the girls announce Jocelyns engagement.

As the MoH, Margo goes to the island the wedding will be held at early with the rest of the wedding party. Unfortunately this does include the Best Man, AND her high school nemesis, Declan.

Is it possible that Margo, a massive commitaphobe, will break all the rules and "catch feelings"?

I really like contemporary romances, this one wasn't the one for me. It was an enjoyable read but it felt a little old. High school nemesis, nerdy girl turned popular, eww boys are gross. That being said though, it was very cute.

Do I recommend it if you love High School Nemesis to Lovers? ABSOLUTELY!

One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers and this book delivered. Declan is such a loveable guy and was definitely misunderstood in high school by Margo. I loved that Declan was so kind and thoughtful but a take charge guy in the bedroom, without being too much of an alpha jerk. Margo, although started out with mean intentions, was softened by Declan and ultimately showed that she was a good person. I really enjoyed this book.

Thank you Net Galley for the ARC of this book!
I loved this book! Fun, witty, and an enjoyable read. Margo had some less than desirable traits but I appreciated her growth during the progression of the story. (Declan grew on me too!) I loved Jo & Go’s friendship, and their growth as friends: the transition from being codependent to the changes they had to make. Aside from the recognition and fame that comes with a podcast, I found many parts of the story relatable. I liked the flashbacks to the prior podcasts as well as the social media blurbs spread throughout. Definitely recommend for a light summer read!

A sweet take on a second chance / he falls first romance. I loved the creative LA backdrop to this sexy story, and appreciated the nods to creative jobs (space engineer and podcaster!). I struggled more with the characters’ likability, and the believability of the third act misunderstanding. All in all I love the red hair representation .. more Prince Harry MMCs please! Thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is out in May!

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts is the name of a viral podcast hosted by Margo Anderson and Jocelyn Hernandez, known as Jo and Go on the internet. Margo and Jo have been friends since kindergarten, and they've always done everything together. This includes their podcast about how to navigate being single without catching feelings and getting your heart broken. What's the only way from keeping your heart from getting broken? Well, break the hearts yourself, of course! Margo and Jo are coming up on their seventh season of the podcast when Jo announces that she is engaged. They admit that the seventh season will be the last season of Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts. The book highlights the vacation before the wedding and the wedding events (and aftermath) as Margo tries to find her new normal while coming up with new content for their seventh season. Facing backlash from fans calling them fake for Jo not listening to her own rules, Margo and Jo are trying to come up with something new for the seventh season. Margo decides that she will break their rules too, intentionally this time, to show that there's a good reason for these rules.

This book was very nice to read. It flowed well and was a relatively easy read. I liked Kristyn J. Miller's writing style, and I really think she's someone to look out for in future books. This is her debut novel, and I think it is a really great first book. This romcom was a quick read for someone who has a lot of time on their hands like me. I finished it in around a day once I really started reading it. I read the first chapter and then took a break because life got in the way. Miller's ability to depict a scene is great. I normally like a more even ratio between dialogue to monologue, but I really enjoyed Margo's internal thoughts. Margo Anderson is such an interesting character. For the protagonist, I like to see that she has flaws. However, I think she's still sort of immature for how she presents herself. She shies away from important conversations and rejects everyone else before they can reject her. But she also has an attachment issue with Jo, and she feels abandoned that her best friend is getting married. I like that Margo realizes she should be happy for Jo, but I don't think she feels that bad for not being happy for her.

Declan, on the other hand, is absolutely swoon worthy. He's funny, handsome, caring, and he knows his way around the bedroom. More importantly, he is up front and able to tell someone what he wants. I like that he can be assertive in a nice way and knows when he is not being treated right. The chemistry between Declan and Margo is instant and palpable. They are a great match, and everyone knows it. Even Margo knows it, and she doesn't want a relationship. However, I think for Margo obsessing over how mean Declan was to her in high school, she's awfully quick to forgive and get over the torment. Additionally, the miscommunication of the pranks Declan pulled on her was frustrating to say the least, though it didn't have much of an effect on the outcome. This book was cute and funny and had me laughing for a lot of it. However, I also think it was real in the way it depicts insecurities and real feelings.

SLIGHT SPOILER BELOW.

I go back and forth on whether I like a third act break-up. As this story progressed, I became increasingly aware that I would have hated a third act break-up. Declan and Margo were so perfect for each other, and I loved reading their interactions. Their relationship had barely started getting to the good stuff. However, as much as I didn't want this third act break-up, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was written well, plausible, and actually made me so sad. Normally during a late stage break up scene, I roll my eyes and wonder if it was really necessary when there's only a few more chapters of the book. But with this one, I was invested, and I was frustrated, and I felt like it really added to the story. Overall, I liked the plot and how it played out. This book took a unique topic and made it interesting and memorable. Especially for a debut, this is a great book. I recommend this book highly to someone who likes a good romcom. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC in return for an honest review. To Kristyn J. Miller, I'm very excited to see what romance book is next.

This is a perfect little summer romcom. I really liked the concept of the podcast and really liked the interactions the main characters had with their friends throughout the book. I loved the wit and banter between the characters and I thought it was a smooth read. This is a great debut and I would definitely read this author again in the future!

Really enjoyed this book and read it quickly.
I always love a vacation book as the characters tend to have more freedom and lots of fun excursions happen. This story had a wedding thrown into the vacation adding an extra layer of fun.
I really enjoyed the podcast being Jo and Go’s career and how modern the story is. Social media platforms and sponsorships being such a big part of life now it was a unique part of their story having the wedding paid for but only if they adhere to posting and doing as the sponsors say.
Declan was a fantastic male lead. I really think he was sweet, thoughtful, & romantic. SO many male leads lack the actual romance but Declan…man he gave me butterflies. Loved him.
Margo… so I’m not someone who loves a female lead who is consistently a Debbie Downer. I don’t need my characters to think the world is sunshine and rainbows and I like them to have some cynicism but she really was quite negative all the time and did not seem happy for Jo. She was selfish and only cared about how Jo getting married would affect her. At about 50% into the book I was thinking that if she didn’t change I wasn’t going to like this book. BUT the author did give her some tough love from Jo at the wedding which I loved. Jo actually called her out on her behaviour. I really ended up liking Margo’s character arc because she changed. Declan loving her and Jo getting married changed her outlook on life helping her see what was really important in life. She softened a lot and realized her mistakes.
All in all I really enjoyed this book and the romance was very sweet. I definitely recommend this book!

A lovely rom com that shows that some rules are definitely meant to be broken.

Enter podcaster Margo Anderson, whose show details rules for staying single and unattached. Her world turns a bit turvy when her partner in crime (and podcasts), Jo, announces that she is getting married of all things….which goes against Margo’s whole belief system. Suddenly, they are in the thick of a two week vacation/destination wedding. Margo is the maid of honor and the best man just happens to be Declan Walsh aka her former high school nemesis extraordinaire.

Margo decides to break her rules for Declan….but will he just be more material for her podcast, or something more? A touching enemies to lovers read with just the right amount of angst and spice…..enjoy!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a cute novel and a very “how to lose a guy in ten days” type of spin. Which I can honestly say I have never read in a romance novel yet! The characters were adorable and likeable and I hope so much to see a sequel and continue following Margo and Declan’s story!

I'll start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of podcast! BUT this book was top tier lol!!!! it did not disappoint, and definitely did not bother me that it was a huge part of the book. Very cute quick rom com, with lots of LOL moments which makes this book so captivating and engaging. This was also my first read of Kristyn Miller so I would love to add that I love her writing style and how simple, and captivating it is!!
