I read the first two books in this series quite a while ago and I've only just managed to get around to getting to this third book in the series. I use the term series lightly as all three books could be read standalone; the characters and plot are different in each, but there's a running theme of killer family members.
I don't know if it's the passage of time or changes in my personal tastes, but I didn't love this book as much as I did the others. It was enjoyable, but I didn't feel as enraptured or hooked on the story. Don't get me wrong, there were some juicy twists (the final one I really didn't see coming) but the story wasn't complex enough to make my brain work hard.
I was really aggravated by the main character Anna, but I interpreted that as intentional. She disobeyed every instruction that was given to her and I found her to be very selfish. Some awful things happened to her and I could empathise with those, but my word she made some bad choices.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. Easy to follow, some nice shock moments and an acceptable amount of "gore" surrounding the murders. A good and quick weekend read thriller.
Another great read from Alice Hunter. It was fast paced, dark with lots of twists and turns. Definitely recommended for any thriller addict.
Thank you Netgalley.
I really like this author and have really enjoyed the series so far.
The Serial Killers Sister is a continuation of the serial killers family series, with each book being a standalone story.
I enjoyed this instalment, but it didn’t have me gripped the same way that the previous books had and I found the twist to be a bit too fantastical, which took away from my enjoyment.
The book is well written, the characters are well developed and the plot is engaging.
Overall, an enjoyable read and I do look forward to reading more from this author
Alice Hunter’s The Serial Killer’s Sister is a gripping psychological thriller that dives into the dark side of family secrets. The novel centres on Anna Price, who has painstakingly rebuilt her life after a troubled childhood in the care system. With a charming seaside home, a loving husband, and a fulfilling career, Anna seems to have it all.
However, her world is upended when a policeman arrives with shocking news: her estranged brother, Henry, is now a wanted serial killer. The police urgently need Anna's assistance to catch him before he can strike again. The plot takes a darker turn when Anna receives an envelope containing a chilling message that plunges her into a twisted game reminiscent of the traumas of her past.
Hunter’s storytelling is both atmospheric and suspenseful, drawing readers into Anna’s harrowing predicament. The tension builds as Anna confronts her painful history and faces the brutal reality of her brother's crimes. The novel effectively explores themes of guilt, fear, and the impact of past trauma on one's present life.
The narrative is fast-paced, with twists and turns that keep readers guessing. Anna’s emotional journey and the dangerous game she is forced to play add depth to the story, making it more than just a typical thriller. Although some plot elements might be familiar to fans of the genre, Hunter’s skilful writing and character development elevate the novel.
The Serial Killer’s Sister is a compelling and thought-provoking read. It offers a blend of psychological intensity and gripping suspense, making it a standout in the thriller genre. If you enjoy a story that combines emotional depth with edge-of-your-seat excitement, this book is definitely worth a read.
Another great instalment to the Serial Killers Family series.
Anna thinks she has moved on from her past, growing up with her brother in the case system, but can she ever really escape the clutches of her past.
Everything is good in Anna’s life - a devoted husband, a lovely home and a great career but when the police know on her door everything changes.
A great addition to the Serial Killers Family series, that will keep you guessing throughout. Who can you trust?!! A fast paced twisty psychological thriller where you don’t know who to believe.
Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
Compelling storyline with a surprise ending. I can usually figure out the mystery, but not this one. It took me completely by surprise. Read it and enjoy.
A good read with some surprising twists along the way. Didn't expect the last one at the end at all. Kept me hooked and guessing all the way.
Thank you Avon Books and Netgalley for another brilliant read.
I have read every book in this series and they have all been brilliant.
This was a great read, from start to finish and I just couldn't put ti down.
Each time I thought I had figured things out, another clue was revealed and left me doubting.
I don't always like a dual timeline, but this was really well plotted and keep you hooked until the very end.
Cannot recommend highly enough - you must read this and the whole series.
I have read every book in this series and I have loved them all for different reasons. This was an absolutely brilliant read from start to end and I couldn't put it down. Every time I thought I had figured the culprit and the motive another clue was revealed and I was left doubting everything and everyone. The dual timeline is perfectly plotted to allow you to slowly put the story together and keep you hooked until the very end.
This was a strong entry into this disconnected series. I've really enjoyed all three, and I liked the way that Sister repeatedly subverted the expectations I'd built up by reading all three. You can read them entirely independently and thoroughly enjoy them, and I recommend these often to any thriller lover.
The audiobook for this one in particular was well performed and fun to listen to, making the twisty story seem even more unputdownable.
This book is the third in a series
Plenty of twists and turns
Definitely keeps you hooked
And a great twist at the end
Thanks NetGalley
A good read with some infuriating situations which make you realize you are completely immersed in the story. It kept me guessing and floored me when all was revealed. Alice Hunter really is establishing herself as a must read author.
A great read which had me keep turning the pages. Lots of twists and turns and full of suspense. Probably make favourite book so far
This is the third book in the serial killers series. I've enjoyed all of them but this one is edging it as my favourite.
The storyline was really intense and kept you guessing all the way through. The use of the dual timeline was done really well and it all came together at the end with plenty of twists so you really didn't know what was coning next.
The ending especially was a gasp out loud moment!
I loved this book! I’ve read Alice hunter before and enjoyed her books but this was stood out for me. This was an absolutely brilliant read from start to end and I couldn't put it down! Lots of twists and turns and I couldn’t work out
Who the killer was til the end.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for this arc.
Have never read any other books by this author but will definitely look out for other titles! This was an absolutely brilliant read from first page to the last it held my interest, couldn't read it fast enough!! So much happening and so many red herrings!! I was sure I had worked out who the killer was.........wrong!! Loved this book!!
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.
A well plotted story with a neat twist at the end. Part of series but I read it as a standalone without too much difficulty. Good characters and a compelling pace.
With thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an opportunity to read and review an early copy.
Anna finds out that her estranged brother is a serial killer and the police need her help in solving the clues he's left before he kills again, her life has been turned upside down and the and the clock is ticking but is she willing to uncover her secrets and risk herself to catch him and stop him from killing again. I enjoyed this for the most part and there were some good twists but the ending seemed a little unbelievable to me and just left me questioning a few things.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Fast paced but also easy to follow! The story follows Anna, who has a brother called Henry who just happens to be a suspected serial killer. An envelope appears at Anna’s house one day and we are taken through their past relationship and how this could affect the new life she has built - is Anna’s life in danger? I will leave that to you to find out but this would be a perfect read for a gloomy day - curled up with a blanket and a hot chocolate!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for this ARC.
Imagine going about your normal life when one day a policeman shows up at your door and informs you that your brother is a serial killer. This brother that you’ve been estranged from for years has been killing women on certain dates, another important date is upcoming and the Police want your help in tracking him.
Their years in the child care system were difficult and a way to be occupied it was to play a game he invented. The brother would lay out clues and she would figure them out but what she discovered at the end was not always pleasant. The game became crueler and scarier over time…..and then she left him and his game.
Now he is laying out clues again for her to follow but it’s to prevent the next killing.
The story flips back and forth in time so you see how all the “clues” play a part in the telling of the sordid crimes and the seamy character he was.
Fast paced and enjoyable.
