Henry Lincoln is a serial killer. He murders women on his sister's birthday. Why? There is one more important date for this criminal. Will his sister explain why? What happened then? Will Anna, the killer's sister, know the truth, and will she share this information with the police? Anna receives a mysterious envelope with the text: "Each one has been different but part of a whole. Each one I take is a window to your soul. Each one tells a story but hides within it a clue. Each one has been bringing me closer to you. Middle for diddle, that's your lot. Choose wisely, now off you trot." I was horrified. We go back in time and end up in the Finley Hall children's home. Here we meet Anna and Henryk, and a certain other girl. She pushed Anna away from her brother. Why? Returning to the present day, we meet Detective Inspector Walker. He was in charge of the murders of Anna's brother. He was very useful. Ross is the husband of our main character. I didn't like this character. He irritated me terribly. Anna has little time as there are four days left until her brother's next attack. Will he hunt her this time? Let me tell you that "The Serial Killer's Sister" shook me a lot. Especially the ending was very scary. There were a lot of twists and turns throughout the book that I wasn't expecting. It was my first encounter with the work of Alice Hunter. Now I know I need to read her other books. If you're looking for a good psychological thriller, you've come to the right place. You won't have time to be bored. And the final shock will stay with you for a long time.
The Serial Killers Sister is a crime thriller that really packs a punch!
I thought I had this story worked out pretty well and assumed it would be a predictable crime thriller - I could not have been further from the truth!
I loved the chapter length, some being shorter than others, this definitely made me want to just keep reading one more chapter as I was addicted to the story.
The ending absolutely blew my mind, and it was for that reason this is my favourite out of all the “The Serial Killers” books!
My Top 5 things from this book:
•Unreliable Narrator
•Dual Timeline
•Short Chapters
•Gripping Read
•Jaw Dropping Ending 😱
Anna Price has reinvented herself since her troubled childhood. She has a husband and a successful career as a teacher. Then a detective shows up and tells her that her brother Henry is a serial killer and he needs her help to track him down before he kills again. At the same time, Anna begins receiving messages that hark back to a game she played with her brother in the children's home. The idea for this story is very good but it was very easy to guess the real culprit and all that was left were two highly unlikely twists at the end. i have to say I was quite disappointed by the ending which seemed really rushed and not well-written. Lots of things were never clearly explained. and the denouement just wasn't convincing.
The Serial Killer's Sister is a character-driven novel that explores the themes of guilt, trauma, and redemption through the experiences of Anna. Hunter expertly builds tension by gradually revealing the extent of Anna’s discovery of her brother's crimes while building her character and personal struggles. Anna’s journey is fraught with challenges as she navigates life as the sister of a serial killer, unclear about what has happened and whether her own life is in danger.
The novel also delves into the psychological impact of having a relative involved in criminal activity. Hunter does an excellent job of describing the toll that this takes on Anna, capturing the anxiety and paranoia that she experiences during the course of the book. As she learns more of her brother's actions and the deadline draws to a close we learn more about their childhood and her relationship with Detective Walker grows and she leads him to their assumed destination.
I read the first two books in this series and although I enjoyed them, I didn’t rate them particularly highly. I enjoyed this one far more than the others and while I was unsure about reading it, I was glad that I did. Alice Hunter’s writing is better, and the pace seemed faster than the others, holding my attention far better and building suspense throughout. It was heading for a full five stars, but I didn’t like the ending which had so many twists I found myself a little confused and had to go back and re-read the last couple if chapters to make sure what I thought I had read was correct and to work out what happened. I'm still not completely sure though to be honest but I think I have worked it out!
The characters in The Serial Killer's Sister are fully-realised and multi-dimensional, which is a trait of the best psychological thrillers. Anna’s development, in particular, is a strong point of the book. Her story arc is complete and satisfying, and she's a relatable character despite her extraordinary circumstances. The supporting cast is also well-fleshed-out.
The Serial Killer's Sister is an excellent and engaging novel and comes highly-recommended for psychological thriller fans. Alice Hunter has crafted a story that is not only an excellent mystery but also a thought-provoking exploration of trauma, identity, and the relationship between family members. The characters are expertly crafted, the writing is vivid and immersive, and the plot is compelling throughout. This book is not to be missed.
Addictive, fast paced and intriguing, this was a WILD ride and SO full of twists! I loved Hunter’s previous two books: both were brilliant, although I spent the entirety of THE SERIAL KILLER’S DAUGHTER thinking it linked to the first book and being unable to work out the connection. Now I know each is a fresh, stand-alone plot, I really enjoyed this!
Unhinged, unpredictable and super interesting characters, short chapters + MAJOR red herrings made for a quick and easy read that I flew through in two sittings.
And the TWISTS. If you think you’ve figured out the twists.. no you haven’t. I SHOUTED at my partner when I thought I’d got the major twist right.. then shrieked when I realised I’d been misled and the twist was actually a twist in itself. And the double twist ENDING 😭😮💨.. to put a twist like that in the LAST SENTENCE was BRUTAL!
Those twists that make you stop dead in your tracks, mouth open, eyes wide 🙌🏼 as you think back over the entire book and see everything in a new light? That’s the one. *Cue me shrieking again and waking my partner up to explain wtf is going on*
I love this super fun + twisty series and really recommend them, whether you’re a seasoned thriller reader or just starting out in the genre 🫶🏼

Good follow up to the other Serial Killer books ( sounds weird saying that!)…I have really enjoyed the series!
Another twisty thriller from Alice Hunter!
Anna hasn’t seen her younger brother for 15 years after she left the care system while he stayed behind. She’s worked hard for everything in her life, but after the police break the news her brother has killed 5 women and need her help to prevent another murder, everything is upturned as she tries to survive the scariest week of her life.
I enjoyed her previous two in this ‘series’ (all are standalone but based on being related/married to a serial killer) and this one didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend all her books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was devious and very clever in the way it was laid out.
I have since devoured more books by this talented author who certainly knows how to enthrall her readers.
As psychological thrillers go it would take a lot to beat this one.
Not great unfortunately and I won’t be reading any more of this series / the first one was much better
This author is incredible, using her background in psychology to write such brilliant gripping books. I raced through this book, audibly gasping at some points. I was so engrossed in it! I couldn't put it down!
After overcoming a rough childhood and putting the past behind her, the only thing Anna is concerned about this particular morning is her evaluation results from Seabrook Prep school were she’s taught the past eight years. But when DI Walker rings the bell everything is about to change. Anna’s younger brother, Henry, is wanted for a string of murders. Anna hasn’t had any contact with Henry for years, but could he really be a serial killer? By the next day her normal life is in shatters, she’s been suspended from her job and now fears for her life as everything points to her being his next victim. But what if she’s not his next victim and another woman’s life is in her hands? With just a few days to save his next victim, she reluctantly teams up with Walker to help find Henry. The only problem is that Anna has a few secrets of her own and has made a promise, but some promises should be broken. As Anna’s life turns to utter chaos and the days are dwindling down, will she be able to stop Henry before it’s too late and save herself in the process? Hunter has once again written a twisty good read with an ideal ending. Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Loved it thanks netgalley for letting me read this really exciting book and the ending was just wow,
Anna and Henry brought up in a childrens home after they were abused in their family home. They told each other they would akways look after each other, but Anna met a good friend and Henry was very jealous.
He kept wanting to play games with his sister but she was busy with her friend and ignored him.
Henry started getting dangerous with his games and Anna was afraid of him.
Years later after Anna was married she was informed that Henry had become a serial killer and he was after her.
This story has wonderful twists and turns LOVED IT.
3.5 Stars
To begin with, don't let the title fool you. While this is the third book about a member of a serial killer's family, each of the books focuses on a different killer within a different family, so you don't have to have read either of the previous two in order to enjoy this one. Personally, I have read the other two and did not enjoy them for a variety of reasons. But, I decided because the premise of this one sounded so good, I would take the chance and give it a read. And honestly?
I enjoyed this one a lot more than I did the other two.
Sure, it wasn't without its issues (some of which I am hoping were corrected between the ARC I received and the finished product), but on the whole, it was a pleasant read that kept me engaged until the end. Because I want to end on a positive note with this one, let me start with the things I didn't like.
The first thing that comes to mind is a pet peeve of mine that I know a few of my regular followers also share, and that is the fact that the author repeatedly refers to Anna's "tummy" being in knots. Tummy is fine when it is a child speaking, but I have yet to meet a grown adult who refers to their stomach as their tummy. I have always hated the use of this word in relation to adults, so it was annoying for me to see it repeated so often.
Another issue I had was the way this one would jump around without warning. One minute we are back at the children's home in a memory, or we are seeing things from the twisted mind of the serial killer, and the next one of the characters is speaking or doing something in the present day without warning. I noticed this a couple of times, once to the point where I thought Anna herself was the killer because of the way it jumped focus.
However, what really saved this one was the holy shit double whammy that happened in terms of twists and surprises during the last part of the book. I can honestly say that I did not see those coming!
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
The Serial Killer's Sister follows Anna's story; we first meet her as a detective is at her door, telling her that her estranged brother is believed to be a serial killer. Anna then finds herself thrown into a macabre treasure hunt that harks back to her childhood where her brother, Henry, set up games for her. The readers also get to learn snippets of the pair's childhood, where they were brought up in care after the death of both their parents.
I have read the other two books in this series, although they are all standalone novels, and I have loved every one of them. I loved the mystery and intrigue that continued throughout this book and thoroughly enjoyed the idea of a hunt for clues. There were some clever twists and it all led up to a climactic ending.
I can't wait for the next book from Alice Hunter.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
Anna Price has built a solid life for herself after a difficult childhood in the care system - a teaching career that she loves, a loving husband, and good friends. So when a policeman turns up at her door to inform her that her brother is a suspected serial killer who has been brutally murdering women, Anna's careful, comfortable world is rocked. When Anna starts receiving clues from her brother about the killings, she finds herself lured back into the dangerous games they used to play in their childhood. But this time, only one of them can win...
While I loved the premise of this one, the execution was a little lacking for me. The dialogue wasn't the most realistic, the characters were uniformly annoying, and I was irritated by the Big Reveal, which I had guessed anyway, but which came Scooby-Doo-exposition-style in a big confessional flurry.
There were things I liked about it too - I'm always a fan of a dual timeline, and I preferred the childhood chapters over the present day ones as there was more genuine tension there. But overall, this one wasn't really for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, and to the publishers, who granted me a free ARC copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Have enjoyed this authors books before and once again this one did not disappoint.
This story is written in time periods, the current time as well as Annas childhood.
Anna had a tricky upbringing after being placed into care with her brother Henry . Initially very insecure, Henry demanded a lot of his sisters time, often leading to difficulties in Anna veing able to build her own friendships.
Anna is now married and has a successful career as a teacher. One morning a detective knocks on her door to announce that her estranged brother is a serial killer and is due to strike again.
Finally agreeing to help in the search for him, Anna begans to receive clues linking important dates and places to events from her past.
Anna's life begins to fall apart but she works with D I walker in an attempt to find her brother before he kills again.
A brilliant story linking past to present with a complete twist at the end. Highly recommend axread.
The Serial Killer's Sister is the third book in this series but can be read as a stand alone story. Much like the previous books I found this one to be a slow burner to begin with but there was tension building on each page. There were many twists and turns that I did not see coming and the ending was truly shocking - Fantastic!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my ARC.
My thanks to Avon Books U.K. via NetGalley of ‘The Serial Killer’s Sister’ by Alice Hunter.
This is Hunter’s third book in her The Serial Killer’s Family series of crime thrillers. Each novel is a standalone that examines a case involving the close relative of a serial killer. As I have noted before Alice Hunter has a solid background in psychology and worked in the prison service and utilises this in her writing.
As I believe that crime novels and thrillers are best read without much foreknowledge, just a brief overview of the plot:
Anna Price had spent her childhood in the care system. Yet she since has built for herself the perfect life with a beautiful seaside home, a devoted husband and a teaching job that she loves. Oh dear - regular readers of crime and psychological thrillers know what’s coming …
One morning D.I. Walker from the Devon and Cornwall Major Crime Investigation Team appears at Anna’s door with the news that her estranged brother, Henry, is a wanted serial killer, and the police need Anna’s help to catch him before he strikes again. She is naturally upset by this news.
Then an envelope turns up on her doorstep. It contains details of a game that she and Henry used to play when they were in foster care. She feels compelled to play as Henry might reveal Anna’s secret. Of course, she has a secret! At times Anna did frustrate me by her constant going behind DI Walker’s back and withholding information from him or going off on her own. Still, there is that secret to protect.
Overall, ‘The Serial Killer’s Sister’ was a gripping crime/psychological thriller with a satisfying twisty conclusion. I did read it in a single day, it’s always a good sign when I can’t put a book down.
This might be the third in the series but can definitely be read as a standalone; they are not linked and you can read them in any order.
Once again, Alice Hunter has created an intriguing story. Anna hasn't had the best start in life but she has managed to shake that off and build a good life with her husband and all is looking good until the police turn up on her doorstep to tell her that her brother is a serial killer and she may hold the key to catching him or could she be the next victim?
Written over two timelines and mostly from Anna's perspective, the short chapters make this feel fast paced and despite there not being a lot of the usual gruesome descriptions that are the norm with serial killer books, Alice Hunter uses the growing sense of tension to put you on tenterhooks and racing to find out what's going to happen. This is a great story with unexpected twists and just when you think you've got it, another one happens that turns the story on it's head.
I don't think I actually liked any of the main characters but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the book and I would recommend to those who enjoy a good serial killer book without a plethora of violence and gore and my thanks must go to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Serial Killer's Sister.
Anna's normal life is interrupted one morning when the police arrive on her doorstep to inform her that her younger brother is a serial killer. And she may be the key to catching him.
This book is insanely (and brilliantly) twisty, keeping you guessing right to the very end. Definitely one to pick up if you're looking for a bit of mystery and a bit of thriller!
