This was a quick entertaining read that presented an interesting take on some well known mythologies and I especially appreciated the take on the afterlife, which is the main setting for this book.
while Caroline was adaptable and sweet I did feel there was little character growth in the story. I would have expected some form of change after her experiences but she remained the exact same.
This is definitely a book I would recommend to fans of YA fantasy.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
I didn't realize going into this book that it was childrens/YA. The cover art work is so similar to other New Adult & Adult fantasys I have read, I (ironically) judged the book by it's cover lol. Despite my pre-judgment of the age group of the book, I did not feel the lack of complexity that normally comes with reading something meant for younger audiences. The story was cute. Though I was wasn't the target audience, I still enjoyed myself. I will definitely be recommending it to my 15 yr old. This is right up their ally.
The Fireflies Champion is the first book in a new series where mythology and angles have a joined world to help save humans. This has a very interesting synopsis with Caroline who dies at 16 and becomes a ghost with special abilities and Dash an angle who was suppose to save her but couldn't. I found some aspects of the story enjoyable but then other parts were not as polished. but look forward to seeing where this series goes.
While the fireflies' champion is very interesting it's not exactly clear who the audience is intended to be - and with that I found the story to be pretty boring as well. I do think the series has a lot of potential, and I'm interested to see where it goes... I just wish more happened.
