I received an advance copy via NetGalley.
I adore Mary Berry. I loved her when she was on the Great British Bake Off, and I have a previous cookbook of hers as well. This republication of one of her classic cookbooks incorporates American measures and includes recommendations for swaps for British ingredients, such as light corn syrup for golden syrup.
I was thrilled to get an early chance at this cookbook. I will say straight-up that this is not a one for beginners, nor is it organized to be approachable for beginners. After an introduction loaded with baking advice and equipment explanations, the very first recipe is a British standard, a Victoria Sandwich. The book overall feels cake-heavy, but there's a wide range of complication involved. To put it in Bake Off terms, many of the recipes tend toward Show Stoppers, with a number also presenting a Technical Challenge. Not that this is a bad thing. The variety here looks incredible, and I'd volunteer to taste test pretty much everything.
Some of the recipes that I most want to make are Crunchy Top Lemon Cake, Special Shortbread Cookies, Millionaire Shortbread (probably one of my all-time favorite desserts), and Bakewell Slices.
My biggest criticism of the book is that maybe only half of the recipes have photographs. More than one recipe I found intriguing but I really wanted to see it to know if it truly was of interest. Alas.
I still find this a solid cookbook for someone who loves Bake Off, Mary Berry, and wants to challenge themselves with recipes from one of the great bakers of the modern era.
I love Mary Berry! Like many Americans, my first introduction to Ms. Berry was on The Great British Bake Off. I sought out her cookbooks then, but really struggled to get through the recipes. Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated is great. There are tips and tricks, and simple to follow instructions. I would say that this is a great book for those who have been baking a while, but maybe want to try some more classic European cakes and desserts. Before writing my review I wanted to make at least one recipe, and my son and I chose the Chocolate Roulade. I was a tad concerned the whipped cream filling would be too much, but it was actually perfect. The cake itself was not too sweet. I think there is a bit of flexibility in the recipes, and an experienced baker can put their own touch on it. I look forward to getting a hard cover copy when it is published.
So many new cakes have been added! Just one word describes this cookbook-Yum! If you know Mary Berry then you know this is a must have and if you have never had the privilege to own one of her cookbooks-this Revised and Updated Edition is the one to have!
Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated : With Over 250 New and Classic Recipes is the ultimate baking recipe book. All Mary Berry's classic recipes are included and the book is very easy to follow with tips and comments from Mary. The only downside for me was the lack of photographs for every recipe. However if you want a book with recipes you can rely on this is the baking book to choose.
My expectations were high for this cookbook, and of course they were met. The presentation of this book was beautiful and all the recipes amazing of course. The images are stunning and mouthwatering. Even if you were not familiar with The Great British Baking Show, you would also be in awe. I was expecting measurements of ingredients to be only in metric, but there are also in measurements! I do think this a great indication the cookbook is friendly for all levels of bakers. Also she was not kidding that this is a baking bible! A little over 400 pages, you have so many types of bakes from classics to exotic tastes! I would definitely buy this for myself or any other baking enthusiast.
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This cookbook includes all of the classic bakes one would expect from Mary Berry and from a British baking book. The instructions are laid out in an easy-to-understand manner. Many of the recipes have tips and comments from Mary. My biggest issue was that there was not a photograph for each bake. This is more important for a baking book because the end result is expected to have a certain appearance.
Second to reading, my go-to relaxation technique is baking. I haven't read the first edition of Mary Berry's Baking Bible - but I loved this revised and updated version. If a book is going to include the word 'bible' in the title it better be pretty all-encompassing, and this did not disappoint! I enjoyed the organization of this edition and so appreciated measurements for us Americans. The cookbook shares many traditional English recipes but plenty of options with universally known ingredients. Recipes seem to range from mostly approachable for beginners to advanced bakers, which I appreciate.
The only negative I would note is that each recipe is not photographed - that would be *chef's kiss*
Thank you to Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed and NetGalley for the digital advance review copy of this book.

I've long since wanted to add a Mary Berry cookbook to my collection and this opportunity to read one was a real treat. The recipes all look incredible and I found myself inspired to get back into baking by trying recipes both familiar and new. Any of my complaints about the e-book variation of this cookbook are easily remedied by acquiring the physical copy, which is my preference for cookbooks especially. I am excited for this book to be released and to add it to my wishlist.
I was really looking forward to testing out recipes from this book, but I incorrectly assumed 'Americanized' meant it would have both British and American terms and measurements.
The recipes have American cup measures/ounces first, with grams listed in brackets - all good. But all the temperatures are in F, with no mention of the C equivalent.
If I'd been reading the print version, it would have been fine but with an ebook you'd have to either flick to the conversion page or Google the temperature. In print you could then make a note for next time, but not in the ebook.
The ingredients are written for the American audience ('heavy cream' etc.) not including the British term as well. Is there a British version planned or do we have to stick with the original??
All that said, the recipes look comprehensive. There are basic recipes and more complicated ones. The book covers many traditional British recipes as well as some standard American recipes.
The intro has well written baking advice for beginners, including basic terms and a list of equipment.
This is an excellent book for American bakers who want to try traditional British bakes from a reliable source.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
Having watched Mary Berry on the Great British Baking Show, I was excited to get the opportunity to read and review her book. It begins with general information on baking tools, and ingredients. If you are an experienced baker, you may be able to skip that portion of the book.
If you like a picture with every recipe, you may be disappointed. The photos are good but there is only one photo for every third recipe or so.
I found the recipes to be more European or British than American. The flavors and ingredients were not those typically found in American baking books.
Mary Berry is certainly an expert and her baking Bible is certainly worth having.
As a matter of fact, it will bring some new life to your cookbook library.
LOVE Mary Berry! The cookbook is full of tips and great recipes. I'm sure my patrons will enjoy this book, and I'm looking forward to seeing a physical copy of this book, ebooks are hard for cookbooks- half the enjoyment is flipping through the pages and seeing all the delicious goodies in full color.
I adore Mary Berry, and her Baking Bible reads like she’s standing right beside you in the kitchen, cheering you on and explaining each technique. This is an incredible resource for brand new bakers or those lacking confidence. With practical tips ranging from the ins and outs of baking equipment, measurement conversions, explanations of ingredients, and a host of recipes both savory and sweet — including her mother’s bread and butter pudding! — this book really has it all. It’s especially fun for Anglophiles who want to try some traditional British baked goods.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I enjoyed reading this a lot - Mary Berry is a great baker and I love watching her on GBBO. This book was really helpful, I loved the introductory chapter that talked about tips, tricks, and key information for baking. There were SO MANY recipes in this book I cannot wait to try them all. The instructions were straightforward and the images and descriptions were mouthwatering.
Thank you Mary Berry, Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC e-book. Well first off Mary Berry is quite a baker and if you have never heard of the Great British Baking Show I think you better check it out now. This cookbook solidifies why she is one of the best. Her Baking Bible is full of amazing treats, breakfast dishes anything you can imagine and its so easy to follow.

This cookbook is delightful! It truly is a baking bible — featuring many recipes, tips and tricks, and loads of information about baking and ingredients. The images were crisp and the instructions well written and easy to follow.
The book is jam packed with tons of sweet and savory recipes that look and sound delicious. Some quite popular, others not so much! I’d say it’s the perfect gift for bakers wanting to venture out of their comfort zones.
Some recipes that had my mouth watering just from the description and recipe are:
— the Large All-In-One Victoria Sandwich
— the Mississippi Mud Pie
— the Sponge Christening Cake
— the Orange and Chocolate Fork Shortbread Cookies
— the Focaccia with Onion and Balsamic Topping
I cannot wait to pick up a physical copy of this book and get baking!
Thank you NetGalley and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Whether you are a seasoned baker or just starting out this is the cookbook for you!🍰🧁🍪🥧
I've loved Mary Berry since watching her on, "The Great British Baking Show.". She's certainly the, "Queen of Baking" in the UK and now world renowned!
I love to bake for my family and don't consider myself a professional baker. It's just a hobby and I like the easy recipes. That's what Mary stated in her foreword that she first published her cookbooks to help people learn the basics of homebaking and how easy it can really be.
This revised and updated book is filled with an introduction on baking at home, the equipment needed, and all the different terminology. It's broken down into Seventeen Chapters. There are a variety recipes from: Classic Cakes, Spiced Cakes, Chocolate Treats, Cupcakes and other small goodies, Celebration Cakes, Special Cakes, Sheet Cakes, Baking for Children, Crackers and Cookies, Fancy Cookies, Tarts and Pastries, Breads, Fruit Loaves, Buns and Scones, Hot Puddings and Pies, Souffles and Meringues, and a whole Chapter just on Cheesecakes!
She has a little blurb before every recipe and most of them have pictures. On the weekend I made the Lemon Yogurt Cake for my family. It was a hit! A perfect cake to serve with coffee or tea. There are so many recipes I'd still like to try. I'm especially interested in the very British and classic Victoria Sandwich (Sponge Cake), Banoffee Pie, The Best Scones and The Fork Cookies Recipe. I think my family will be having many yummy treats to come for awhile 😋 👩🏻🍳
I'd like to kindly thank NetGalley and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for granting me access to this Advanced Reader Copy.

I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
I love Mary Berry and was thrilled to be able to read this
I was disappointed that I had to read it on my phone and would have loved to have been able to read it on my Kindle
It did make a huge difference to my enjoyment of the book, however, loved the illustrations and the recipes
As always, Ms Berry’s cookbooks are divine. My first wow was the page of liners: I did not know there was a difference between cupcake liners and muffin liners. Inquiring minds want to know if this is a British fine distinction or also found in the US. There are the customary delicious sounding recipes and mouth-watering photos, but that leads to my one complaint: the photos.
To be sure, I am viewing a digital book, so perhaps a print book is more clear. At first, I thought I had the photo organization figured out- recipe, photo, recipe, photo (Sadly, some recipes have no photos, which should be against some sort of publishing law). Then, all of a sudden, the pattern changed. It’s keeps changing. I could figure out most, but not all, such as the picture between the carrot cake calling for walnuts, and the walnut cake. I have no idea which cake is provided as example. This is poor editing.
All in all, Mary Berry’s recipes are wonderful, as usual. She needs a better editor to make certain that the casual cook, as most users are, can use the book as intended.
One thing to know about me is that I love baking, but at times I’m not the best at it. I lack the creativity that goes into decorating and the patience for waiting and measuring, which are all things essential for making a beautiful dessert. But with this cookbook, Mary can make a mess of a amature baker like myself, into a chef. Her directions are easy to follow, her tips are helpful, and the ingredients are common. She’s not asking for you to find spices or make her recipes hard to follow. Her flavors are delicious and delectable yet very elegant. I have made several recipes and each one was amazing, with double chocolate cookies being my favorite. I think both amazture and seasoned bakers will find this book enjoyable and useful.
Thank you to NetGalley and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press, Clarkson Potter for this ARC
Mary Berry has written the ultimate baking bible! I don't have any of her prior cookbooks, but she does a wonderful job of including the classic baked goods with newer delectables as well. The book starts off explaining equipment you may use, then what the ingredients are, and what you use them for, terms commonly used in baking, and finally, conversion tables. There are full page color pictures which I love. I like to know what I'm making is supposed to look like. I like how the book is divided into sections one for breads, one for cakes, etc.I would love to make the death by chocolate cake as long as I have people other than myself to help me eat it. This is one cookbook everyone should have for their shelf.
