Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated by Mary Berry is a nice cookbook. I love that Mary uses grams when writing her recipes, as cups are much too inconsistent. (The sooner bakers adapt to using this style of measurement, the sooner their bakes will be more consistently delicious.) The pictures are beautiful and inviting; however, not all recipes have one. I wish there was a picture for each recipe to help everyone, especially visual learners, see what the end product will look like. This will help readers feel more inclined to try something new.
I am an advanced baker that creates and writes my own recipes, so I only read cookbooks occasionally, and that is usually just to get inspiration of new flavor profiles or techniques, or, as in this case, when I am a fan of the author. Unfortunately, I was not inspired by a single recipe in this cookbook.
One last note, some ingredients needed are not readily available, especially if you eat/bake exclusively organic.
I rate Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
Thank you to Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for providing me with an ARC.
This is a great recipe book! Easy to follow recipes with helpful hints from the Queen of baking! I think this would be a great book for a beginner or someone who has been baking for a long time.
Mary Berry's Baking Bible is everything I expected it to be! It is filled with delicious recipes from a master, and an iconic, baker! She offers conversion tables, suggests equipment, provides a baking lingo dictionary, and even recommends little baking nuggets of knowledge. Every recipe looks worth a try and no home baker should pass up this book. My only wish was for it to have more pictures! I’d love to see what each recipe is supposed to look like, not only for comparison with my own amateur work, but to get me excited about trying a new recipe!
As a seasoned baker for over a decade, I find this book to be a great and fantastic beginner's baking book that really breaks down the fundamentals. There are great varieties of recipes for each type of baked goods, plus, some really great photos! I would definitely purchase this for anyone who is just getting into baking.
Mary Berry has truly created a baking bible. With recipes ranging from pastries to cookies and all types of cakes, this covers all of your basics. There are recipes from French madeleines to American cheesecake to your classic British treacle. Everything included in this cookbook is described in enticing detail. The accompanying photos are great and this has inspired me to get back to baking. I can't wait to put all (or realistically most) of these recipes to the test.
Lots and lots of delicious recipes! With this book you can make Classic cakes, spiced cakes, chocolate treats, cupcakes, celebration cakes, sheet cakes, crackers and cookies, tarts and pastries, breads, buns, scones, puddings, pies, meringues, cheesecakes and more. The photos are vey nice! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I adore Mary Berry and this book is perfect for any fan. I love all the opening information as an American, as it is so useful. Seeing classic Mary Berry recipes, like her Victoria Sandwich and her Pavlova, is amazing. I enjoy the photography, and just wish there was even more, such as with each recipe. .
I absolutely will be purchasing this book when it is published in May 2023.
The Mary Berry baking bible, compiled by one of Britain's most renowned chefs and TV personalities, Mary Berry.
The cookbook contains over one hundred recipes, including classic cakes and biscuits, as well as some new and original recipes for bread and other baked goods. Beginners and experienced bakers will both find it exciting and helpful.
There are several vegetarian dishes available as well, which I am super happy about, being vegetarian myself. The recipes are easy to follow and the instructions are very precise and detailed. There are also some helpful tips and hints throughout the book relating to different ingredients and techniques, which I found very useful.
4/5 from me
***A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review.***
Mary Berry is and forever will be an icon and the bakers of bakers. Thank you to the publisher for the ARC.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A popular cookbook updated and revised by Marry Berry. I like that it has measurements that we Americans will understand and measurements for everyone else too.
This has a ton of classics, heavy on the eggs, cream, butter and cheese. nice layout, easy to follow.
I received an ARC of from NetGalley and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press in exchange for an honest review.
When I discovered that Mary Berry had an updated and revised “Mary Berry’s Baking Bible,” I was determined to review it. I freely admit that I have a *thing* for the British, and especially anything dealing with British cuisine, and for good reason. For example, this cook book has an ENTIRE section on cheesecake alone. How could anyone not like that?
One thing that I really love about Mary Berry is the fact that she ensures that her book will be useful to people around the English speaking world by including both the English (Imperial) and Metric. This is especially useful here in the United States. The other thing that I adore is that Berry included a section called “Cake Decorations” that lists a number of different recipes like those for fondant, royal icing, and even how to temper chocolate.
Mary Berry is a talented cook, but she’s also one who can (and does) appeal to masses of people. It’s not just her personality that does this, but her no-nonsense recipes that the everyday Joe and Jane can actually make at home. And while Berry’s recipes are naturally heavy with British favorites, she also includes a heavy dose of American favorites as well, such as Pecan Pie and Key Lime Pie.
I adore Berry’s cooking and I love the recipes she provided, along with all of the tips and tricks she offers readers. I strongly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who loves to feast as much as I do!
This was such a delightful read! I really enjoyed seeing all of the different things I could make. The instructions were informative but easy to understand. Also the pictures were so beautiful and gave a great representation on the items to make. Great read!
This book has some great recipes in it!! Def will be making lots of them. The recipes are pretty easy to follow and so many different options to choose from!
Love this book! Mary Berry's recipes are always really simple to follow, and the updated Baking Bible is no exception. As someone who lives in the UK, I'm a bit more used to some of the ingredients and recipes than Americans may be, but both UK & US readers can follow along quite easily!
ARC received by NetGalley and the Publisher. Thank you!!
What a gorgeous cookbook full of beautiful photography, scrumptious recipes and unique desserts and bakes to create at home.
While not a cookbook for novice bakers with extremely simply recipes any level of baker will find the recipes to be easy to follow with delicious results. Its the type of cookbook where I want a physical copy so I can cook my way through the cookbook (my favorite kind) and keep on my shelf for frequent use. As a US based reader I found a bit of whimsy and fun in enjoying the British desserts that are not often found in US cookbooks. With a picture featured for each recipe it is easy to find inspiration for what to bake next.
If I am two things.. I am a Mary Berry fan and a baking enthusiast. So naturally, I had to have this. The photos in this are beautiful. The colors are vibrant, the treats look delicious, even if they're things I don't typically gravitate towards, and the staging is flawless.
I think the recipes are good, and while I haven't tried any, I don't doubt or question Mary Berry's recipes at all. I love that there are both measurement options, I'm someone that measures using weight so I appreciate that inclusion. I think the recipes are lacking personal touch. Part of the cookbook experience, especially from someone so iconic, is the little touch that makes this book them. If it didn't have her name and photo, this could have been any random baking book I grabbed from the bookstore. I also think the recipes could have more detail and direction guide. I find that something as simple as specific steps and texture indicators creates a big difference in the result for some recipes. Sure I know to dump it all into a bowl and bake, but what order? What am I looking for?
Regardless, I am excited to test out some of these recipes the next time the baking itch comes.
Thank you Netgalley, Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press, and Mary Berry for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
-4 stars
While working my way through this book, I couldn't help but hear Mary Berry's calm and measured voice narrating every word - and I've got to say that made it the most relaxing cookbook I've ever read!
The recipes in this book cover a wide variety of baked goods and there truly is something in here for everyone. The recipes are presented in a simple and unfussy way that make even the most complicated recipes feel approachable. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, whether a true beginner or an experienced baker.
Mary Berry is a queen. So excited to have her guidance while learning new recipes and refining some old ones. She's making my baking better than ever before. Ready to go to the tent now!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a nice recipe book. As expected Mary Berry delivers sweet and savory recipes with beautiful photos. The recipes are listed with measurements in cups which is helpful for us Americans and there's tips throughout the book on making the best bakes. While some of the recipes definitely require some skills, others seem easy and approachable.
Overall a nice find!
