The second chance hotel tells the story of Amelia and James.
They both come from the USA and meet in Greece while backpacking through Europe.
When they get tricked into marrying each other whilst drunk one night, things start to develop but Amelia still desires to go back home (or at least she believes that's what's best).
How will it all unfold?
I loved this book. Everything about it spoke to me so loudly that i could not put it down!
Amelia is such a complex character and James was funny and witty.
The tension in this book was great and i liked the story line a lot!
I wish we could have seen more moments of Amelia and James together at the end tho, but everything else I really enjoyed. The only thing I did not enjoy was (someones) character. He was really annoying sometimes, and don't even get me started on the 'all girls like me'.
I really recommend this book if you are looking for a summer quick, funny and interesting read!
The mamma mia vibes this book was giving me were also incredible!
Thank you to Net Galley for giving me the chance to read this book in advance of the release date! It has been an incredible experience and I will most likely read from this author again!
I DNFed this book at 30%. It just wasn't for me. I just felt like the writing was really repetitive and that it was slow. It didn't feel like too much was going on. Others who enjoy rom-coms might enjoy this a lot more than I did. All views and opinions stated are solely my own. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review!
Okay this isn't normally my genre, but I've been reading really heavy things and needed something light and fun and this sounded like a romp of a story that would be silly and fun and easy to read. It started to lose me when the protagonist walked away from her self-proclaimed best friend, for whom she was maid of honor, three weeks before the wedding with no intention of returning and no concern about how this might affect said friend. And that loss was sealed when she got to Greece three months later, with casual mention of the traveling she had done all over Europe and the friends she had made and The Fabulous Life she had lived without any indication of how any of this was possible or plausible... Topped off with the broken English of the Greeks she encounters, I quickly lost all interest and patience and had to admit this one wasn't for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Overall, a cute read that makes you want to hang out in Greece. However, it was repetitive in numerous parts, which made it drag out a bit.
"Amelia sat at the table on the veranda, staring at the sky for a long time. The view was Instagram-worthy perfection, and the warm air should have been relaxing. Unfortunately, accidentally getting married to a stranger and being saddled with a hotel in a foreign country weren't relaxing activities."
This book was an absolute delight! I loved the hilarious banter, the hilarious premise, and the author's descriptions of the setting and food. The main characters, Amelia and James, have a fun relationship and I found myself rooting for them through their many trials.
After a bad break-up and a disastrous day at work, Amelia is left confused and without a clear path in life. She decides to take a trip and ends up spending several months in Europe. Unexpectedly, she also finds herself married to a stranger, James, as well as becoming a co-owner of a local hotel on a small island in Greece. James is equally lost and the two are forced to work together to run a hotel and decide where life will take them next.
Sierra Godfrey wove an enjoyable story involving interesting characters, breathtaking views, and a sprinkling of unexpected romance.
Review in progress and to come.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review
I love it when the right book finds you at the perfect time. Reading The Second Chance Hotel was truly kismet and Sierra Godfrey’s Grecian adventure made my heart sing! This story was transportive and so immersive - I could smell the salt on the ocean breeze, practically taste the fresh bread and moussaka, and visualize exploring the coast and olive groves.
Amelia and James were quite charming, but I fell in love with the colorful cast ranging from meddlesome matchmakers, scheming innkeepers, and charmingly cantankerous family members. The characters were abundantly delightful and I found myself longing to join their boisterous dinner parties and picnics.
I truly loved this story about friendship, family, healing, and opening yourself up to new adventures and the unexpected!
This book was such a fun read! I really liked the author’s writing style and the characters, both mcs where so charismatic and realistic by not leaving their flaws behind, the plot itself was well paced and i was not bored at all, it has humour and romance and heartwarming moments, couldn’t put it down by the end
Thank you to Netgalley, Sierra Godfrey and the publisher for the advance copy to read.
What a wonderful book to read. If you're looking for escapism to a little Greek island this is for you. Lovely story following Amelia and James, their endeavours at the hotel and how they integrate into the community as outsiders.
This would make a great holiday read if you like a fun, light hearted romcom. I could easily see this making a wonderful movie.
Enjoyed every moment.
This was the perfect vacation read. I adored the protagonist and found myself unable to put the book down. The story's setting, characters, and message was engaging and fun. I will definitely be reading more by this author. Loved it!
This book was so relatable for me and I liked it! However, I could see not being able to connect to the characters. They come off as selfish, self absorbed and impulsive. Also, getting rip roaring drunk doesn’t end well, ever. I wish the MCs were in their 20’s when this behavior makes more sense.
This is a travel adventure/self realization story based in SF and Greece.
Amelia has reached her breaking point & decides to jet off to Europe to avoid her recent breakup with a tech bro, her employer, her narcissistic mom and her best friend’s wedding. It’s what she does when things get hard - run.
James we don’t know as much about. This could have really used a dual POV. He loves olive trees & is also running away from something.
This was such a fun read- I could picture the entire thing as a fun rom com movie with all the little quirks of last-minute travel, unexpected marriage(!!!) and all that happens after to make it a lovely love story.
It’s so nice to have books like this one to indulge in a bit of escapism.
It also made me hungry ;)
This book was a welcome break & such a joy to read! It made me want to hop on a plane immediately to Greece and experience it all for myself.
Amelia experiences a work crisis and immediately books herself a trip to Europe, not without ramifications! The book is a hysterical, lovely story of love, friendship and self exploration. I really enjoyed it and flew through it! Such a great summer or vacation read.
I was sold with the description, it’s all fun and games until you accidentally marry a stranger and inherit a hotel. I would love to travel to Greece. This book let me live through that dream. Definitely a slow burn romance.
Things I loved:
Accidental marriage
Found family
Greece!!
Amelia and James
I really enjoyed this novel about Amelia who quits her job and runs away to Greece. She ends up accidently getting married and owning a hotel! I loved reading about all those yummy Greek foods and especially loved the recipe at the end!
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 ⭐️
I liked the premise here and the setting and the found family. But it felt a little slow for me at times. It also bugged me how the text messages throughout the book weren’t even bolder or italicized so we knew it was a text lol. But it was a decent book overall!
Thanks Net Galley for the ARC 💞
3.5 stars. This book started off really promising. I was all in from the beginning. It had humor, it had escapism into European adventures, and once Amelia got to Greece, it had some romantic potential. The storyline felt incredibly unique. There wasn’t instant love or attraction between Amelia and James, but they had a solid friendship growing and sparks were starting to ignite. The drunken night landing them unknowingly in a marriage and as hotel owners was great. Unfortunately from there, it felt like the brakes got slammed on and the book slowed to a snail’s pace. I didn’t believe the romance in the end because Amelia and James barely interacted once they were married. Until the end, there was only one other moment where the tension built between them. They didn’t talk to each other about anything to do with their relationship other than agreeing not to ‘complicate’ things.
I loved the setting of this book, all of the food descriptions, and the secondary characters, but I wish the romance had been more in depth and the second half of the book was as well-paced as the first half.
I want to say thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read the ARC of The Second Chance Hotel by Sierra Godfrey. This is the second book from Sierra Godfrey I’ve read, and neither one of them have disappointed! Accidental marriage, death, hotel ownership, running from feelings, dysfunctional family, and friendship issues are just SOME of the topics touched on during this story. Once again, I feel like Godfrey does a great job of weaving tough topics throughout her novel and creating great depth in her writing. I especially loved the growth and journey of Amelia and James’s relationship. If you’re looking for a story you can’t put down and need to know how everything turns out, I would highly suggest this read!!
What a fun, unexpected treat! This is a book you need on your list! The Second Chance Hotel is about James and Amelia, two wandering souls who desperately needed to escape their lives at home for different reasons. They end up on an almost forgotten Greek Island and wind up taking on a huge project that threatens to undo them but that intriguingly has the potential to rebuild the pieces of their travel weary selves, should they let it. This escapist novel was a delight. I laughed, especially at the differently employed Yorgos characters around the island, as well as the incredibly quirky personalities that find themselves in our main characters inner circles. It has all the elements of a good rom-com with a little silly cheesiness mixed in, and it made me want to travel. So happy I was able to read this one!
Thank you to netgalley and sourcebooks for the eARC of this one! Releases September 12, 2023!

This started off great, sucked me in on page one with a tea cup getting thrown and all
While I understood Amelia’s motivations to heading to Greece immediately, I wasn’t sure leaving her besf friend high and dry weeks before her wedding, as the maid of honor, was a redeeming quality.
Overall, enjoyed the plot but didn’t feel much for the romance.
