I love Beth Evan’s’ comics and am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher too for this copy. This collection is just adorable and warms my heart.
The art is super cute and the story is so wholesome. It was less a comic and more like a picture book. Each page was an encouraging message or a personal mantra. I think it is worth getting.
4 stars
This is like those old posters with the cat hanging from a clothes line that says "Hang in there". They aren't jokes. They're little pep talks for those with anxiety featuring a featureless blob. If that's your thing than you'll get more enjoyment than I did, but I wouldn't call these comics when they aren't meant to be funny.
Enjoyed reading through the affirmations; they can be used for everyday inspiration and encouragement. The minimalist cartoon on every page is also cute and sometimes silly, which made me laugh at times. I'd have to say, though, that it can get repetitive at times, and would have preferred some kind of Q&As or worksheets in between chapters.
This felt a little redundant. In a different format I think this could be very good, but it was repetitive as a book. It also read to me more as empty platitudes I've heard before than anything new. This would be an okay gift book or coffee table book, but I wouldn't recommend anyone read it straight through. I also felt the title was a little misleading compared to what was in the book.
Thanks to Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was not it. I was left disappointed
I found there is a lot of repetition in the comics. These comics would have done great on social media as little one-offs, and then the repetition is not that bad. But in a book, where you read one after the other, this is just not well edited.
Also the title conveyed a very different tone to me than what this book actually was.
Wow, this was just what I needed to read today. And, in fact, I can see that any day would be made warmer and brighter by this adorable, uplifting, kind-hearted, open-handed series of comics and notes about living your best life in a sometimes cold and dark world. There's reminders to be gentle with yourself, counsel for overcoming the daily tasks that can seem so overwhelming, encouragement to keep trying, advice for resting, and just so much hope. I felt lighter and more seen the whole time I was reading it. It has a lovely Instagram feel to it, but collected with great intention into a book with longer written ruminations too. I feel like this is going to become a go-to gift for me to give the people I love most.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this book and share an honest review.
This book felt a lot like a Rupi Kaur poetry book in the sense that the content is great for Instagram but not really a good fit for a book. I follow Beth Evans on Instagram and I enjoy the same comics there - the art is cute, the texts are mostly funny and comforting - from time to time. However, reading them all together felt a little tiresome and preachy, and the novelty wore off pretty quickly for me.
Uuuugggghhh, this book was so charming. And adorable. And you should definitely read this if you like things like Hyperbole And A Half orrrrrrr Sarah's Scribbles. This book was full of simple but cute illustrations and positive and validating quotes. Yes 10 out of 10 recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sending and allowing me to read this book.
I don't really have much to say about this, it was very cute though.
I received this book through NetGalley and it did not disappoint. It was very comforting and validating in such a humorous way. I felt that it was just in your face enough for me to believe all the words the author wanted to portray. I see myself giving this book to any and all of my friends who need words of encouragement and just extra sprinkles of love when they are struggling.
This is a wonderful book about inspiring oneself and getting to love yourself a little more each day. I had a wonderful time reading this book with its cute illustrations and beautiful message. Inspiring all the way through. I hope anyone who comes along to read it gets the same message I was able to get.
Well, I love when it comes to such collections of confessions and self acceptance notes with cute illustrations. Such books are meant to destress us and it works like charm!
The book is short yet it feels like I just had some quality time spent with someone close to me.
Love it.
Thank you, Andrews McMeel Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
I think this book could be a great table book full of motivational messages about self-love, mental health, and just trying your best every day.
Evans offers up many affirmations that are like getting comfort and encouragement from a friend. It was really nice to read even if it was a bit repetitive. It still works out but mileage might vary since some messages are rather generic.
Overall it's a sweet and uplifting reading experience that makes you feel understood if you are suffering from anxiety.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
Can we please please please get these in a set of tear away card; like you see with a class set of valentines? I'd love to have these in a deck so I can pull one out to share with a friend, or read myself, when needed. This book will be great to have on hand and flip through when you need comfort, love, or validation that you are important and perfect just as you are.
Very cute collection of comics and blurbs. The title is hilarious and the content is relatable. A short and very sweet book about mental health.
I absolutely love cute little cartoons with uplifting messages. This book is full of motivational messages about self-love, giving yourself grace, and just trying your best everyday. I appreciated the content of the book and the illustrations were fun.
Unfortunately, I have to rate it 2.5 ⭐️ for the overall delivery of these messages. I found everything to be quite repetitive and random. I would have loved to see some chapters or key themes throughout the book rather than what seemed like randomly chosen pages throughout the book.
I think this book could make a great table book where you pick it up and read a page of two.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the gift of reading this ARC in exchange for my honest review ❤️
Thinking of You (but not like in a weird creepy way) is a very comforting reading experience. Evans offers up many much needed affirmations that are like getting comfort and encouragement from a dear friend. It was really nice to read. It isn't an engrossing read, and it can be a bit repetitive, but I still think it was a nice, comforting little book.
It's the kind of book you buy so that when you're having a bad day you can open it up to the encouragement and comfort you need.
I first learned about Beth Evans and her artwork via Instagram and read one of her previous books, I Really Didn't Think This Through so I was very excited when I found out that she had a new book releasing this year.
I enjoyed reading this book, but it wasn't my favorite work of hers. I liked the comics and encouraging messages. However, it didn't "wow" me nor it did it feel any different than other typical encouraging words and messages.
I think maybe for daily affirmations this might be good book but not for you to read fully when feeling down. I can see these comics on a Instagram story or post however they were very repetitive both the slogans and the cartoons and after a while it was not engaging. I was hoping it would be an awesome comic to read when feeling down that would help you process but it was not a book to process. It seemed every page was an independent Instagram post.
