This is one of the funniest and cutest books I have read so far in 2023. I am obsessed with Sasquatch and my Granddad hated squirrels, so I had to pick up this book. This is perfect for my younger family members and I will probably buy them all a copy of this book. I would also love to have some of the artwork hung on my wall, it was that perfect.

Thank you Netgalley for letting give my honest review

Strawberry's a very lonely sasquatch, though she keeps herself busy with a variety of fun activities. One day she meets Squirrel, and they seem to hit it off, though everything they try to do together seems to end up in disaster and/or injury.

Can they really be friends if they don't share all the same hobbies?

Kids of all ages should enjoy this fun tale of an unusual friendship told in colorful graphic novel style.

I was not a fan of this book. The background were great but the character illustrations were off putting. It sounded like a fun idea but I didn’t enjoy reading it and would have struggled to read it aloud. I found it hard to follow and not fun.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Sasquatch and Squirrel is intended for children ages 4-8. The story follows an unlikely duo through their adventures in the forest. My only comment is that some of the pages are very visually overwhelming and since there is so much content on each page, this book is a bit longer than it seems. I would say it's more on the higher end of the age range.

This was cute but way too long. This would be good for older kids that could read on their own. I can't see younger ones sitting that long listening to the whole story. The story itself was quirky and fun. Illustrations were ok.

This was WEIRD and I loved it. I am not sure how well my 3.5 year old would stay engaged (though he would LOVE the antics that Strawberry and Nutty get up to), but I imagine an older kid would love the quirkiness of this. The illustrations were great and it was a nice little story about friendship!

The illustrations in this book were very unique, and I enjoyed them. I liked that it started as a normal book and then had comic strip-like pages in it too. It was a cute book, but a little too silly (but the kids loved that part). If I saw it in a bookstore and flipped through the pages, I probably would not pick it for my kids.

Pros: Unique art, fun illustrations, good use of the page, creative, silly
Cons: no strong message and a bit forgettable.

Few children’s books are as naturally charming as Sasquatch and Squirrel, released May 2023 by Lerner Publishing Group and lovingly written and illustrated by Chris Monroe. Geared towards young readers, it tells a fun story about the difficulties and rewards of friendship.

Strawberry is a Sasquatch living alone in the woods – typical of a Sasquatch’s solitary nature. She lives a very full life, having lots of hobbies such as hair styling, foraging, and pranking the local loggers. Her favorite activity though, is making cherished collages with the items she forages. It’s during one of these crafting periods that she meets Nutty, the mischievous squirrel who steals some of the berries used in her art.

Nutty, while a bit of a menace, is just doing what squirrels do. Rather than being mad, Strawberry decides to befriend her and together they embark on a day of adventures. They try climbing, Nutty’s favorite activity. Then they try pranking loggers, one of Strawberry’s favorite pastimes. Both activities prove to be disasters that leave them a bit beaten up. Can they come up with another activity to save their tentative friendship?

Sasquatch and Squirrel is a fun book about what it’s like to feel different, and how to overcome communication challenges that might seem insurmountable. The characters are cute, and the illustrations have a rustic charm appropriate to the mountain setting. There is an earnest sincerity to the book. The desire for the characters to connect is easily understandable for anyone, like Strawberry, who is content in their solitude, but also open to the fun that a companion might offer.

Sasquatch and Squirrel is a lovable children’s book. There are good lessons to be found in it, and the harmless pranks that Strawberry pulls on the loggers and Bigfoot hunters are sure to get a good laugh.

I wasn’t a fan of this book. It could’ve been a cute story, but was entirely too long and drawn out and didn’t hold my attention much less my child’s. I also didn’t like the comic book set up of the book and it was too much needless conversation between strawberry and nutty.
Thank you for the arc.

I am in love with the illustrations. This is such a fun art style!

The antics that Strawberry and Nutty got into were great fun, and I love the message of unlikely friends. We are never as alone as we think we are!

This is great for any kid. Totally recommend for a silly fun read.

The art is really cute, but I am not really sure I got the message. The squirrel was super annoying to me. I think littles may like it better than I did, but it just wasn't for me.

3 stars

Sasquatch and Squirrel are funny, unlikely friends! I love this odd combo of unlikely friends as their story is hilarious, cute, and entertaining. This is the perfect read aloud for 4-6 year olds as there is a LOT of humor in this book. Sometimes you just need an entertaining and fun book. This is it!

My daughter is six and an early reader. She LOVES picking out books for us to read together.
We read about Strawberry and Nutty and her feed back was “I liked it, but I didn’t LOVE it.”
I thought the message was an important one that was conveyed strongly and clearly, just because you and your friends don’t enjoy all te same things, doesn’t mean your friendship isn’t valuable. Strawberry and Nutty definitely don’t experience the world the same way, but they totally figure out how to enjoy each other’s company and find things they are good at together.

The developing relationship between Strawberry and Nutty is cute and funny. This book had us laughing and looking forward to more books in this series. Thanks for such a great book!

I think that this is a cute little book. The conversations between Strawberry and Nutty are silly, which kids might enjoy but were a bit ridiculous at times. However, the illustrations are unique and silly and I loved the style of illustration

The comic style made it have an easy flow but the conversations were repetitive and silly. A bit drawn out and not engaging for my kids.

I literally laughed out loud reading this! The illustrations are adorable with so many expressions coming through. I know my third grade students would love this book in our classroom library!

This book was ummm…weird but in the best way.

I can totally see reading this with my son and him laughing hysterically. I can’t wait to read it with him.

It’s totally random and off the wall. It’s a fun read.

I’m with Nutty, we don’t wanna hangout with any pancake wasters. I hope Strawberry knows a good doctor if he’s going to keep hanging out with the likes of Nutty.
