Description
Deep in the forest, Strawberry the Sasquatch is very happy on her own.
She keeps busy doing all the alone things a Sasquatch does: sneaking, dance moves, foraging, haircare, and more. But one day Nutty, a snack-loving squirrel, comes along. Maybe they can hang out together?
Things don’t exactly go well: Strawberry’s climbing is more like crashing, and Nutty turns out to be terrible at logger pranks. Can these two critters find common ground?
A hilariously charming new story from author and illustrator Chris Monroe, creator of the Monkey with a Tool Belt series!

This was WEIRD and I loved it. I am not sure how well my 3.5 year old would stay engaged (though he would LOVE the antics that Strawberry and Nutty get up to), but I imagine an older kid would love the quirkiness of this. The illustrations were great and it was a nice little story about friendship!
Few children’s books are as naturally charming as Sasquatch and Squirrel, released May 2023 by Lerner Publishing Group and lovingly written and illustrated by Chris Monroe. Geared towards young readers, it tells a fun story about the difficulties and rewards of friendship.
Strawberry is a Sasquatch living alone in the woods – typical of a Sasquatch’s solitary nature. She lives a very full life, having lots of hobbies such as hair styling, foraging, and pranking the local loggers. Her favorite activity though, is making cherished collages with the items she forages. It’s during one of these crafting periods that she meets Nutty, the mischievous squirrel who steals some of the berries used in her art.
Nutty, while a bit of a menace, is just doing what squirrels do. Rather than being mad, Strawberry decides to befriend her and together they embark on a day of adventures. They try climbing, Nutty’s favorite activity. Then they try pranking loggers, one of Strawberry’s favorite pastimes. Both activities prove to be disasters that leave them a bit beaten up. Can they come up with another activity to save their tentative friendship?
Sasquatch and Squirrel is a fun book about what it’s like to feel different, and how to overcome communication challenges that might seem insurmountable. The characters are cute, and the illustrations have a rustic charm appropriate to the mountain setting. There is an earnest sincerity to the book. The desire for the characters to connect is easily understandable for anyone, like Strawberry, who is content in their solitude, but also open to the fun that a companion might offer.
Sasquatch and Squirrel is a lovable children’s book. There are good lessons to be found in it, and the harmless pranks that Strawberry pulls on the loggers and Bigfoot hunters are sure to get a good laugh.
Sasquatch and Squirrel are funny, unlikely friends! I love this odd combo of unlikely friends as their story is hilarious, cute, and entertaining. This is the perfect read aloud for 4-6 year olds as there is a LOT of humor in this book. Sometimes you just need an entertaining and fun book. This is it!

I literally laughed out loud reading this! The illustrations are adorable with so many expressions coming through. I know my third grade students would love this book in our classroom library!
This is adorable and it definitely encapsulates the life of a squirrel.I loved the illustrations. This is a five star childrens' sasquatch book.
This book was ummm…weird but in the best way.
I can totally see reading this with my son and him laughing hysterically. I can’t wait to read it with him.
It’s totally random and off the wall. It’s a fun read.
I’m with Nutty, we don’t wanna hangout with any pancake wasters. I hope Strawberry knows a good doctor if he’s going to keep hanging out with the likes of Nutty.
