I enjoyed this retelling on Pandora and Greek mythology. It is modern words and language with Ancient Greek design. I would be interested in more graphic novels in this series based on this individual one. It is well designed for middle grade while covering a layered myth.

I received an arc via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This short graphic novel might be a great way to teach small children about Greek mythology.
The language was very modern though and while I found it funny, I can imagine children feeling a bit embarrassed by it (you know how you felt, when your parents or old people used youth slang) and it might even lead to confusion as to what technologies the Greeks actually possessed. While these are concerns, I think the benefits of using modern language and pop culture references outweigh them as it will make the story more relatable to children and keep them interested for longer. Also, reading should not only be about learning, but also fun.
The art style was very cute and the characters were easy to distinguish. I enjoyed trying to identify unnamed characters.
Also, I liked that finally someone depicts Zeus as the asshole he is, even in a children’s book.
I will definitely try more books from this series and can recommend this one.

I received This Arc Graphic novel, in exchange for an honest review, Thanks for the creative team, and NetGalley.
This is actually available as read now for anyone who would like to read it, you don't need to get approved, mainly because this is one of many graphic novels of this series retelling stories about Greek mythology's gods and heroes, directed toward children.
This will be coming out officially 1st of august of 2023.

At first i wasn't impressed by the art, or the story telling, it was weird to me, but then it kind of crept on me? and i liked it?? I had to put in my mind that this is directed toward an audience of 9 to 11, And the comedy felt cringy, but it was funny cringy, i don't know how that happened, but i was laughing!

Pandora was the first female human created, it felt like she was an afterthought too, a means to a revenge, by asshole Zeus, But no religion is ever pro-feminism really.
Which gets me to the annoying part of this that made me reduce the stars from 4 to 3, Heracles is at least a 5th generation Demi-God descendant of humans, how the hell did he come to be already, and saved Prometheus in time for him to join his brother for the wedding?
I understand the shameless plug i do, but i would have preferred it stayed out of the story, to not make a discrepancy like this.
I understand that it might have been there for not leaving Prometheus to suffer to the end of the story, since it's a children's story and all, But that part wasn't even as gory as the original, the dude was getting superficial scratches on his skin lol.

The modern type of story telling was weird, it needed to get used to, and the only reason that i wasn't super annoyed by it, is i thought maybe the writer knows English speaking kids these days, and they do like all the hashtag and cringy jokes? Maybe??

The Art style is reminiscent of the Disney movie Hercules, as well as the video game adaptation, but much cuter, i also had to get used to this, before again it crept on me, and i found it appealing and cute.

We know Greek Myths, they are cruel and twisted, and bloody, But the creative team, managed to make a very light retelling, of general information available for everyone, and they appropriated it for children, in the end, based on my description, you can know if your kids will like this or not, i have no idea, i just went by feels, and this felt cute and funny in a cringy way, and modern, and light hearted, with 0% violence of the original story.

I appreciate books for kids about mythology, but this was inundated with internet slang & hashtags, among other cringeworthy things. The targeted age is 7-8 & maybe I'm wrong but that seems young for a bunch of internet slang anyway. When my nephew was 7 (he just turned 9) I gave him mythology books targeted for his age that didn't use all that. If there was just a little I wouldn't mind so much but it was throughout the entire thing. I appreciate the additional info about Pandora at the end & I do find the art to be cute.

If you like Greek mythology, you’ll enjoy this one. While it is targeted towards kids, I very much enjoyed it.

I love Greek mythology as must as the next reader, which means you’ll probably get a kick out of this title as well! While I’ve read the story of Pandora’s box a hundred times over, I’ve never quite read it in such a whimsical way that still carry’s the weight of the tale. The author brings a very light hearted and charismatic attitude to Pandoras journey and definitely made for a fun way of learning some lore from the Greek pantheon of gods.

A concise and age-appropriate telling of Pandora's legend that is easy to understand and digest. However, it falls into the trap of one of my most hated pet peeves: putting hashtags and internet speak where it doesn't belong.

This isn't a modern retelling, none of the characters have smartphones, and saying hashtag out loud in a regular sentence is so weird. It always gives off a semi-patronizing "How do you do fellow kids?" energy. It looks dated and unnatural to me as a Gen Zer so I know it's even goofier to the Gen Alpha kids this book is written for. This is a PSA for all millenial and older authors: save the internet slang for Twitter!

I like to read Greek Mythology. Specially when it is about Zeus and his prodigies.

There was long heard name of Pandora Box and it was more often used as an idiom but mostly must not knew the origin of this word. So, this is some light on that topic and it is worthy of reading as it is so enjoyable.

I thought this was a cute and simple way of explaining the myth of pandoras box to children. I though that they language was engaging and readable. I also like that the story was made more digestible and relatable for children. My only concerns are that the internet lingo such as the hashtags might be a little outdated and at times are a little bit much. Also, it seemed like there was a lot of background given at the beginning, which made the part of the story that was actually about Pandora's Box seem a little bit rushed.

Despite this graphic novel being for middle schoolers, I as an adult loved it, It explained the myth of Pandora and Prometheus easily. The illustration was adorable. I loved it and I'm going to buy a copy for myself and little cousin.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

4/5 stars
The story is very kid friendly, as well as the glossary and fun facts at the end. The ending felt too rushed for all the build up and the hashtags were a little much.
Overall, a quick overview of the tale of Pandora adapted to be child friendly.

quick and easy read, great story telling for Pandora's box. Definitely appropriate for kiddos. It was easy to digest with lovely art work. it's 3 stars because the hashtags felt a bit much for me but I'm also not the intended audience

this book is what would happen if you have Greek gods social media.

Would be great if you want to tell kids about pandora’s story in a way they would be used to.

"You can't just gift me to people, Dad!"

This was such a fun read! A delightful, really simple, humorous graphic novel that explains the legend of Pandora (and her box) in a way that is suitable for children.

The illustration style is really wonderful, and the dialogue genuinely made me smile. The inclusion of some modern societal elements (hashtags etc) worked surprisingly well and should appeal to the intended audience.

Even as an adult, I found this to be a great refresher on Pandora's story and the origins of Pandora's box.

"What if you anger the gods? Look what happened to my brother."
"I don't care what happens! It can't be worse than not knowing!"

I read this for a Mythology readathon for May and really liked it! The illustrations were cute and the story was well-told. I think the only thing that may throw people off is the use of hashtags (e.g.- #Oldgodsrule) but overall a great retelling in visual form!

I think this comic is fabulous. I like the style, the character design, and the way it tells the story of Pandora. It's a good introduction for kids into Greek mythology. I would definitely recommend it to parents and I will be reading it with my niece when she hits the appropriate age bracket!
