Thank you NetGalley for gifting me a copy of Pandora’s box graphic novel in return for my honest opinion.
3.5/5 stars
This would be a fantastic addition to any school library. It tells the story of how Pandora became the first human and how truly petty Zeus is. Told from Pandora’s perspective using language that is popular today. We read through the reason Zeus created Pandora and the events that leads to her opening “the box”.
I think for younger grades they will really enjoy this graphic novel but older grades will roll their eyes at it (which is why only 3.5 stars). There are hash tags thrown through out like #oldgodsrule #napgod and many more that depending on the student will be seen as entertaining or cringy.
While I found it a quick, enjoyable read (50 pages including the resources) I can see how it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you are looking for a quick read that gives you the basics of Pandora and her story then I recommend you check this one out!
I adore the art for this book. While it has simplicity to it, it is still very lovely. Also, the expressions for the characters are one point, which helps sell a lot of the jokes. My favorite expression appears early on in the comic, when Zeus goes bug-eyed and yells at Prometheus and Epimetheus to stop arguing.
Art aside, the book does an excellent job of retelling the myth of Pandora's Box, but with a few modernism sprinkled throughout. The humor is garners a lot of laughs, especially with Epimetheus often playing the role of our lovable himbo. I especially enjoyed the montage of Pandora and Epimetheus falling in love and getting married. It was very cute while also still being very humorous.
This comic is excellent for the age group that it is aimed for, and any kid who is curious about Greek mythology will enjoy this comic.
This is an accessible graphic novel version of Pandora's story. I thought this was really well done and enjoyed it after just reading Pandora's Jar: Women in the Greek Myths by Natalie Haynes yesterday. I liked the art style of the illustrations and found everything really easy to follow. Mythology has interested me for as long as I can remember so I love that stories from mythology continue to be accessible to readers of all ages. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone Press for giving me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book told the story of Pandora in such a fun and easy way to understand. I would definitely recommend this for kids and schools.
A Greek myth told in a graphic novel from Pandora’s perspective and many social media culture references. I read it to my son as a bedtime story. He was captivated and said that he enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
Pandora's Box is a short, fun middle grade graphic novel. I enjoyed the fact that there was a fact file at the end of the book, teaching readers some rarer facts about Pandora's story. I think the text talk and hashtags was a little overdone, but this might be partly due to the fact this book is aimed at a different demographic. I liked the illustrations, and the colour palette and I think these worked well with the story. It could have a been a little longer in my opinion - the section where Pandora is on earth before her marriage could have been developed a little more.
A retelling of a Greek mythology that is simplified into an adorable graphic novel. Such a captivating novel suitable for young readers.
Thank you to the author and the publisher for this ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I could see this writing style appealing to children, but I personally was quite put off by all the hashtags and references to social media; I get that it's a part of most people's everyday life these days, but I don't think it's healthy to promote it - especially to such an impressionable age group.
That being said, I did enjoy the art style, particularly the borders and chapter heading details.
Pandora's Box is a delightful, child-friendly retelling of how the events that lead to Pandora bringing disease and sadness (and something else entirely!) into the world.
I wanted to refresh my memory on this Greek myth and what better way to do this than through an incredibly adorable graphic novel?
I would absolutely read this book to my child as it begins to introduce them to Greek mythology while keeping it PG and also contemporary. The language is simple and the use of hashtags (team #NapGod all the way) makes it feel fresh and fun. Gunderson also divides the book up into mini chapters, so you can read this in a couple of days with your kids and get them excited about the idea of finding more.
Overall a very sweet graphic novel that was perfect for a sunny day!
Gunderson does an excellent job telling the story of Pandora. With dialogue and story telling that would greatly appeal to middle age readers.
This Middle Grade graphic novel was a quick, fun read telling the story of Pandora, but also making it relevant to kids. She uses their language, hashtags, social media tags, and other fun things to make the story relatable. I also think that it's great that one of the authors and I went to the same college. I think this book, and the rest of the series, would be great additions to any school or personal library.
This book is for you if you want to learn about the myth of Pandora's Box with a modern touch and cute art style. It gives an easy explanation and some sense of humor.
A fun story for kids who love mythology. This gives a modern twist to the story of Pandora's Box and how it changed the course of humanity forever.
A beautiful little graphic novel about Greek mythology, perfect for younger readers.
I adored the art style in this one, and I thought it broke down the story in an accessible and fun way!
A solid graphic novel that tells the story of Pandora’s Box! It has cute little modern moments (like use of social media) that I think will make the Greek Myth more relatable to the children of this generation. Simple enough that kids can enjoy it while also getting the message across! A good elementary/mid-grade level book that is perfect for any classroom!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!!
As the newest book in the Mythology Graphics Series released by Capstone Press, Pandora’s Box revisits the classic tale of Pandora's Box with a modern and family-friendly spin.
Have you ever heard the expression 'don't open Pandora's box'? Probably: Pandora is the girl who released all the negative things in the world, such as war, greed, and famine, and that is pretty well known. But do you know why and what happened before and after the box was opened?
From the wider backdrop drama to Pandora's love life, Gunderson brings the entire story to her readers in an accessible format and even includes hashtags and fun anachronisms. But, for a book meant about her, Pandora feels very passive and most of the focus is on the male characters. I found the glossary at the completion of the book to be a valuable teaching aid, though.
Regarding the artwork, it is simple, yet also entertaining and full of personality. I really liked the colour scheme too. But it is important to say that the design style of the cover is not the same as that of the interior. Personally, I prefer the cover one.
The is part of a series but can absolutely be read on its own. As an adult, I felt like I wanted more pages and more depth, but it is perfect for the target audience (8-11-year-olds).
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this eBook.
Pandora's Box by Jessica Gunderson would be a good introduction to the minor characters of Greek mythology for children. But I wish the art inside matched the art style portrayed on the cover of the book.
Very very fun read and also engaging especially since they put modern touches to greek mythology. The art is also awesome although the storyline is a bit messy. Overall, all i can say is that zeus is the root of all problems.

Since I teach 3rd grade students Greek Mythology, this book interested me with it's fun illustrations and simple storytelling. I can see many students who struggle with reading finding this an engaging way to learn more about Pandora. Personally, I did not love the use of hashtags and @ symbol, but I can see it being interesting for some kids. I love that the author includes a glossary at the end of the book to help students with their vocabulary.
Overall, this book would be one that I would like to have on my shelf for free reading time to engage my students in the mythology and for them to learn new things about Pandora! I would not use it in my curriculum, however, I love having another resource for students to engage with the content they are learning. I know I learned some new facts about the story from all the interesting details at the end.
Art is simple enough it isn't going to make the words hard to read. But not so simple that it is boring. It makes the myth easy to understand and I think my middle schoolers will enjoy it a lot.
