The black out was a fast paced thriller a very quick unputdownable read. Locked room thrillers is my favorite thriller trope and I was not disappointed. I loved the alternate timelines as you keep reading everything comes together like a puzzle. I rated this 4 stars cause the epilogue was very confusing and didn’t really make sense or give any detail. Due to the epilogue I feel it didn’t need to be added but other then that it was a entertaining read and I recommend
Post will be up on my booksta @blueeyesandbooks in a few days
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon books for this arc in exchange for a honest review
This book, while exciting at first, became trite and disappointing later on. I finished it, but I wasn't enjoying myself, especially near the end. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this.
After reading and enjoying Stranded and The Last Resort by this author, I figured that The Blackout would be another great read. Unfortunately, not, and I am so disappointed. I could not get into this book at all. The writing was a hot mess and seemed off. Did Goodwin even write this? I was confused for the first part of the book. By the time I figured out what was happening, I was so bored that I had to skim through the rest. There were a few exciting moments, but not enough for me to enjoy the story. I think if my attention had been grabbed in the beginning, instead of veering off into a different time line unaware, I possibly would have enjoyed this book more. I would recommend labeling the chapters with a year or date, too.
Thank you to the author, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for allowing me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
A twisty, scary, stay up all night story! Via flashbacks, we learn more and more about Meg and why she is in hiding in her deceased friend's home on a cliff. A year prior the two left a drinking establishment and were trapped by two men who saw them walking home. Meg is still suffering from the events an afraid to form ties or return fully to her life.
One night, however, the lights go out across the country and Meg is forced to deal with the past - will she survive?

Meg and Cat are out on the town one night, in an attempt to distract Meg from the grief of losing her brother Damien. The evening out proves to be a success, but things end badly when the two women find themselves without options wrt getting home.
After Meg discovers that her purse has been stolen, and Cat's credit card is declined, the two decide to walk home. Unfortunately, after taking a shortcut along the way, they find two men following them.
Scrambling to escape, the duo find an abandoned house, where they hide for hours. After hearing sounds that seem to indicate this, they're hopeful that the police have arrived. Except it's not quite that straightforward.
A year on, one of the two women is dead, and the other is in hiding. Except when the people she is hiding from show up on her doorstep, it's in the middle of a blackout...
This story has some flaws, and is a little farfetched at times, but it is quite gripping and atmospheric. Goodwin conveys the characters' sense of panic very effectively, and there are moments when the reader is holding their breath. Worth a read.
3.5 stars
The Blackout started off rather promising, but the further I found myself getting into the book, the more bored I seemed to find myself becoming. We started off with two friends going on a harmless night out, which somehow led to one of those friends having to change her name and seclude herself in a tiny town where nobody knows her.
Megan finds herself running from her past, and the two people who seem to want her dead for whatever she did years earlier. It took so long to figure out what it was she had done, and I do feel that this book could have been, probably, 50 or so pages shorter and earned itself the title of being fast-paced.
When I was about 15% from the end, I’ll admit, I did find myself skimming as I just wanted to be finished reading and I didn’t want to DNF as I was so close to the finish line.
I’ve heard good things about Sarah Goodwin’s writing, and I thought that she’d be for me, but unfortunately, I don’t think that she is.
Thank you to Avon Books for the ARC!
All the love
I’ve enjoyed her three previous titles and her newest novel was just as great.
I love a good revenge story and The Blackout by Sarah Goodwin really packs the punch.
This gripping, thrill-packed book was difficult to put down.
Stayed up late last night reading because I just couldn't stop.
Sarah Goodwin has yet again proven why she is a favorite of mine.
This was well written and organized, and the storytelling was great.
The story gradually builds in momentum as the story unfolds heading to an exciting conclusion. I enjoyed the characters the author has created and found myself invested in their story and outcome.
A true edge of your seat read that is perfect for reading at night when everything is quiet.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

Solid edge of your seat thriller, perfect escapism and highly enjoyable!! Definitely looking forward to more from this author.
This was a fast read that kept me turning the pages. Plenty of tension held my interest throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
The twist and turns were twisty. The nerves were on edge. This book got me. I deff wanna read more from Sarah Goodwin. Thank you for pre approving me for this awesome book.
The book starts out with friends Meg and Cat getting together to have a girl's night out. They have a few drinks and it's obvious Meg wants to forget the anniversary of her brothers death. The girls bus to a nightclub & have too much to drink. Along the way, Meg loses her purse, with her credit cards, id and money. With no funds to bus back home, the girls are forced to walk back. Along the way, they are followed by a couple of men, with obvious bad intentions. Thus begins a nightmare of a saga that flashes backward in time, and ahead one year that follows Meg on a struggle for survival and ultimately a quest for revenge.
To be honest, I was confused for the first few chapters, but once I grasped the time switches, I flew through this book in no time. This is a great book for anyone who loves a good thriller, with many twists and a protagonist that is human, and deeply flawed, with both good and bad characteristics.
The ending was a little confusing, and I felt a little left in the air.
This is a great edge of your seat, what's going to happen next, must finish thriller. Easy, fun and quick read. 3 star!
Thanks to Netgalley for sending me this advance copy of the book.
I really struggled with interest in this. I was extremely excited going into it however simply didn't live up to the hype.
Great book! This book had a bit of everything! It had high suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, dirty cops, and some crazy twists and turns! I just wasn't to sure about that ending?! I mean who was who?! Who was talking?! who were the cops coming after?! Ugh! Its gonna drive me crazy!! Lol but besides that the book was awesome! I will definitely recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Firstly huge thanks to Avon and netgalley for my arc review copy.
The blackout is. Fast paced and entertaining psychological thriller . Told via multiple timelines that reveal current and last events that culminate into an intense nail biting game of at and mouse in the dark. As a lone woman fights to survive the night when pitted against two attackers who want to silence her once and for all.
Set against the backdrop of a raging storm and its resulting blackout, and the fact the cliff they are scrambling around on in the pitch black is crumbling and unstable the author creates a claustrophobic and terrifying situation and atmosphere.
Each timeframe seems independent until it all starts to piece together into one frightening storyline.
Firstly Mer meet Meg and Kat two friends embarking on a night out to distract grieving cat from the anniversary of her brother Damian’s death . The night takes some shocking tries and culminates in a distressing tragedy. Next we cut to “sally” who lives a reclusive life on an isolated cliff in a derelict bolt hole. Who and what is she hiding from
And why? We are about to find out as the night descends into chaos as the last she is so desperately trying to evade catches up with her during a raging storm in complete darkness as a sinister duo turn up.
The blackout is fast paced , fun and atmospheric. I raced through it and couldn’t put it down. There were points when I felt it was a bit repetitive and the ending left me confused as if I had missed an important point that should have upended the entries book so I was frustrate yes but all in all a massively thrilling read , full of twists turns and shocking reveals. Brilliantly plotted with an exciting pace it was addictive and kept me hooked throughout
Meg and Cat are best friends. They decide to have a girls night out in Bristol as a way to distract Meg from thinking about her brother Damian who has passed away. Unfortunately, the night doesn't go so well for them as Meg loses her purse and doesn't have her ticket for the bus. Then Cat's credit card is declined, so they have no money for a ride home. Cat has no phone and Meg's was broken. They decide to walk home instead, both cold and exhausted. On the way home, they end up being followed by two men that begin to chase them. They think they can lose them and decide to hide out in an abandoned house. When they hear sirens and the police show up they think they are safe, but are they really?
THE BLACKOUT was a faced paced thriller. I will say, I was very intrigued with the plot from the beginning. I liked the three different timelines and how they were weaved together in a way that I just couldn't put it down. At the end of the book, I was surprised by the things that happened. I was just a little confused by the epilogue. Overall, though, I really did enjoy this one and would recommend it!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books, UK for my ARC.

3.5 rounded down
Cat and Meg have a great night out in Bristol but the journey home turns into a nightmare. They have no money left and are forced to walk but on their route home they soon realise that they are not alone. They run for their lives, finding an abandoned building in which to hide, hoping that help will come before it’s too late.
One year on, one of them has left Bristol and tried to make themselves scarce in Norfolk in a crumbling, cliffside cottage, which she has turned into a safe house. One wild night, there is a blackout, a perfect opportunity for those trying to find her……..
This starts out as a deadly game of cat and mouse which at times has tension levels so high you can scarcely breathe. The girls scary walk home is fear ridden and is palpable. There are some terrifying scenes where you just hope for the best. In the later narrative it’s chock full of creepy atmosphere provided by the season, the blackout which are bit scary at the best of times, this is further heightened by wild weather with the damp, isolated cottage exuding atmosphere to. So far so good. In addition, there are multiple questions about what has happened in the past with dark hints lurking in the background that are very intriguing.
Unfortunately in my opinion, the many positive elements of the book fall away in the latter part. It loses pace, becomes long-winded and repetitive, it’s definitely far-fetched although recognising this is fiction and the ending is odd and I don’t know what to make of it.
Overall though, it is an entertaining quick read with plenty of good features.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Avon Books U.K. for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
This the first book I’ve read from Sarah Goodwin- it definitely won’t be the last. Thanks to Netgalley for my copy. I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t stop reading to find out what happened next.
Megan and Cat go for a night out which ends in disaster. They are both very drunk and Cat has taken something too. Megan drops her phone and loses her purse - they have no money and no phone to use between them. They start to walk home but Megan had a bad feeling about it.
The night goes from bad to worse but they are relieved when the police arrive.
We then cut to ‘Sally’ who lives in an abandoned cottage with limited supplies. She has installed security measures in the cottage but still doesn’t feel safe. The cottage is situated on the edge of a cliff and the garden shed has already gone over the cliff. Sally lives her life in fear.
I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to others who love a good thriller.
Told over three timelines, something horrific happens in each time frame. The farthest sees her do something that sets off a chain of events that lead to the present situation. She's forced to flee and start again under the radar, but her past eventually catches up with her.
This is such a good read and difficult to review without spoilers. I enjoyed being drip fed information and watching it play out. I found this very entertaining with a satisfying ending.
The thought of living in constant fear for your life and never letting your guard down would be downright draining. One night can change the path of your whole life forever even if your actions were by accident. Past ghosts will continue to haunt you no matter how far you run. I enjoyed this fast paced thriller. Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for his ATC!
