A expertly woven masterpiece that weaves a delicious tale of danger, suspense, old secrets, family drama, and romance! Colleen Coble’s books never cease to captivate me, but this may be my new favorite book of hers.
Carly Harris finds herself a widower and a new mom back living with her grandmother. While going through her great grandmother’s things to sell, she stumbles upon decades old secrets that thrust her and her family into danger.
Lucas lives next door to Carly and her grandmother but tries to steer clear of Carly. When the secret Carly is investigating brings danger to her and her family, Lucas is forced to go running to help protect them. Together, he and Carly must work together to find answers to the past and protect her family.
This book is a must read! Drawn in from the beginning, I both wanted to devour the story, but also hated to see it end. This book will not disappoint!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
I could not put this book down. There was a bit of romance, suspense, and family drama that I couldn't wait to find out what was next.
Thank you, NetGalley and Thomas Nelson. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Colleen Coble. Enough said, correct? In her novel Fragile Designs (releasing Jan. '24), add in a Faberge' egg, secrets, murders, and enemies thrown together to solve the mysteries to get a page-turning, action-packed, plot. Just when you think MAYBE you've figured it out, another twist is revealed. Coble has continued to hone her craft as each book gets better and better.
A copy was provided for my review, but all opinions are my own.
I'm a big Colleen Coble fan but this is one of the best books she's written in the last few years. The setting, the mystery, the conflict and character growth... all of it was amazing and I could not put it down. There was so much heart and I loved the emphasis on family. The mystery was extra intriguing to me because of the unique subject matter. It's hard to say much about what I loved without spoilers so I'm just going to say that you should read this book!
This stand-alone book is one that I would read again and I recommend, especially if you want to try Colleen Coble and don't want to dive into a series.
I believe this is an intriguing book yet ! While it took me awhile due to circumstances, I could not put this book down. The twist and turns in this book definitely kept me guessing and surprised . I definitely recommending this book to everyone one to buy and read. I know ill buy it
If I could give this 3.5 I would. I loved the southern vibes. We just visited Tybee Island and Savannah in October 2022 and really enjoyed being able to picture their adventures there. Fun and quick mystery.
I really enjoyed watching the love between Lucas and Carly unfold. Lucas’s description of his feelings for Carly was just so sweet. I’m all about clean romances these days.
While I found myself looking forward to reading I found myself feeling lost throughout the book because there were too many characters to follow and keep up with.
I really enjoyed "Fragile Designs" by Colleen Coble. I have read most of Colleen Coble's books and this one is different than any other. This shows how talented the author is! I really liked it, though. I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to see how it was going to end! I highly recommend this one!
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This is now one of my favorites of Colleen Coble's mysteries! Different, not the "same old" stuff. Lots of characters, but not confusing. An enjoyable read!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This book has the potential to be great but there were so many different plot devices going on that they distract you.
This book had me hooked from the first page. I could not put it down! A great mystery, a lot of action and suspense, family secrets, and a little bit of sweet romance. I liked that there was so much detail to the story line and there were multiple options for the "bad guys". It really kept me guessing and intrigued. Towards the middle it was hard to figure out how everything was connected but the author did a good job of tying up loose ends by the end of the book and explaining everything.
Thank you, Net Galley, for an advance copy of this book.
In Fragile Designs, Colleen Coble combines twins separated at birth, domestic drama, a murder or two, a Faberge Egg and romance. What could be better? After the murder of her police officer husband seven months earlier, Carly, finds herself living with her grandmother in a large Victorian in Beaufort SC with her newborn son. Next door is an old beau and his brother Lucas, a Beaufort PD Detective. Carly, who collects and sells antiques, has inherited estate items from her great-grandmother. While cataloguing the items, Carly makes some major discoveries regarding family history and finds a real Faberge Egg made for the Russian Imperial Family in 1885.
Almost immediately, strange people appear in Carly's life and danger is imminent. Carly enlists the aid of her neighbor Lucas to look into the several mysteries and the murder of her husband that have suddenly appeared. A major renovation of her grandmother's house brings two difficult younger sisters back into her life. Carly is forced to prioritize her own needs and resolve old and new hurts to move on.
Throughout the author does a brilliant job of navigating twists and turns seamlessly keeping the readers interest right to the end. I am a fan of Colleen Coble and have read almost all her books. I enjoyed this ride and was delighted to see my favorite independent bookstore in Pawley's Island included!
This book will keep your attention!
There was so much happening in this book, it begs for a sequel.
I often turn to Colleen Coble’s books for cozy romantic suspense and Fragile Designs is one of my favorites that I have read from her! Carly is a sweet character and the baby is perhaps my favorite part of the book! Lucas is genuine and protective as the hunt down the treasure and seek to reunite Carly’s grandma with her long lost twin sister. The suspense takes a little more of a backseat in this book. Recommend to anyone wanting a little mystery with a happy ending!
Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble is a fast paced, enjoyable read.
Carly Harris is a widow who is determined to put her husband’s murder behind her and build a life with her newborn son Noah. While working to restore her grandmother’s home and turn it into a bed and breakfast, Carly finds some hidden information in her grandmother's attic and turns to her next door neighbor, Lucas Bennett to help her unravel the mystery.
Colleen Coble is one of my favorite authors and her talent as a writer shines through in this book, if you enjoy clean, romantic suspense, you will love this story.
I want to express my gratitude to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for providing me with a complimentary copy of this ARC, all opinions in this review are entirely my own.
I have never given a Colleen Cobble book less than five stars and this one is no exception. Intrigue, danger, treasure, family secrets...this book has it all!
Wonderful book. I am so enthralled by it that I keep wanting to get back to reading only to remember that I finished it. It’s definitely a crime novel but having a Fabergé Egg play a major role made it very interesting. Lots of potential suspects and unexpected twists. One of the main characters has a baby and the author does an outstanding job integrating the baby into the story and showing how much work newborns are. Likable main characters with wholesome values. An incredibly selfish set of secondary characters who slowly come around. I love the additional story that includes Gram. Great combo of historical and modern day events. Could this really happen? Probably not. Enjoyable and relaxing? Most definitely. It’s a feel good book that will give you hours of pleasure and is informative at the same time. Ms. Coble is an excellent writer.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for an advanced reader’s copy. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Would the prospect of $40 million dollars change your family members? Would it change you? Carly Tucker has very selfish sisters and a disinterested father. The only bright spots in her life are her beloved grandmother and her infant son. After she finds an extremely valuable Faberge egg in her great-grandmother's belongings, things start to collapse around her. People are getting hurt, killed, and kidnapped. Carly is at her wits end trying to keep everyone safe, while she solves a decades old mystery. Her grandmother's neighbor, Simon, is a detective and he has his hands full keeping Carly safe. Despite his best efforts, Simon begins to fall in love with Carly. As secrets begin to emerge, Simon finds out that Carly's husband's death was related to the missing egg. And whoever is after the egg, will stop at nothing to get their goal.
I love Colleen Coble's books, but Fragile Designs is a new level of fantastic! She really knocks it out of the park with mystery, memorable characters, and light romance! I loved Carly, Simon, and Carly's half-sister, Isabelle. This book touches on neglect, adoption, loss, the Russian Mafia, greed, and second chances. I highly recommend Fragile Designs!
Fragile Designs is a stand-alone book by Colleen Coble that captured me from the first page. I could not put this book down. It was a roller coaster ride from the beginning until the end. The book starts out with Carly as a widow raising an infant son. Her husband was murdered and never knew he was going to be a father. She moves in with her grandmother and trouble follows her. She finds a Faberge egg and finds out that it is quite valuable. I love the relationship she had with her grandmother's next door neighbor who at first didn't like her. Many characters in the book who could or could not be the villain. Some who I thought were innocent turned out gulty and more than one who I though were guilty turned out to be innocent. There are twists and turns in this story. I was quite satisfied with the ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Another great book by Collen Noble. Love how it weaves a historical story with modern day life. A touching mystery and also adventure full of reunited love.
Carly Harris is a widow and she has come to help her grandmother restore her beautiful Southern mansion to create a bed and breakfast. Next door neighbor, Lucas Bennett, is a local police detective who remembers Carly as the girl that broke his younger brother's heart. When Carly finds some long hidden information going through her grandmother's attic she need Lucas' help to unravel the mystery. Through the effort, her grandmother finds out some interesting things about her past, Carly finds out new information about her husband's death, and Lucas finds out his brother's situation wasn't what he had thought all these years. This is a great suspense story full of mysteries and close calls. Riveting!
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
This is not my first time reading a Colleen Coble novel, so was very happy to have another of her works to read and review. I've enjoyed this story very much and believe others who like the Russian angle in a saga will too. Then of great interest, the Faberge eggs; antiquities; twins; murder; family ties and dysfunction - you name it - will likely have them eagerly turning the pages as well. Carly and her wee babe add tender moments along with Lucas giving extra spice. All come together to provide some good, clean mystery and suspense and an enjoyably satisfying read.
I'll give this novel a 5-Star rating.
