La Ion starts a new school and is looking forward to joining the school’s soccer club. He is surprised to learn that the soccer club he’s trying to join is one where robots are playing the game! While he’s reluctant to commit to the robot soccer club, La Ion also notices the school’s battle robot team. As his interest in the battle bot team grows, La Ion finds himself caught in the middle of a battle between the two clubs.

By combining soccer and robots, this book will appeal to middle grade readers interested in either sports or technology. The manga style artwork of this graphic novel will catch the eye of manga fans, too. The artwork is safe for school reading. “Maker Files” at the end of each chapter provide information about the history of robotics and help to build reader understanding and interest in the robotics content. The ending seemed abrupt to me, as readers are left without any resolution to La Ion’s situation rather than a resolution that will lead to learning more about the characters.

I requested this book because my son loves comics, soccer, and robots so this book seemed perfect. The comics follow La Ion, a kid that loves soccer and is excited to find out the new school he transferred to has a soccer club. However, it's not an ordinary soccer club. Instead of kicking around soccer balls, they're controlling soccer robots!

We read the comics together and they kept him entertained for quite awhile with all the different stories. The comics were colorful and each story was unique. His favorite story was "Soccer, Not Robot Soccer." I also enjoyed the education information at the end of each comic.

I'd definitely recommend this book for kids that enjoy soccer and robots. 5/5 stars.
