Freida McFadden does such a fantastic job of hooking the reader into the world of characters who just aren't very likable. They aren't likable, but they are despicably entertaining and it's just so much fun to get pulled into their world and out of the real world for a while. Neither Dawn nor Natalie are people I would ever want to spend time with if they were real people, but they are absolutely intriguing as fictional characters. I have been recommending Freida McFadden to my readers who just need to escape for a bit and they love it!
Freida McFadden has always been an auto buy author for me and always a good read for any type of mood. This one fell short for me, I was let down by the overall story and characters and the repetitive use of the word turtle.
The Coworker by Freida McFadden was an easy read. I have to admit it wasn't my favorite Freida book, but it was entertaining and had some good twists and turns throughout! Freida is a writer that pulls you into the story quickly, so as always with this one I was able to read it quickly! I appreciate the twists she adds because it always leaves you questioning whether or not you have guessed the outcome correctly!
As always! Freida McFadden doesn't miss! She knows how to write a thriller like no one else!!! It’s really giving Mean girl vibes!!!
Short synopsis: When Natalie’s strange coworker Dawn doesn’t show up one day, she goes to her house to investigate. Going in the back door Natalie sees blood and broken glass, prompting a search.
My thoughts: Freida can deliver a quick twisty thriller unlike any other author I’ve read before. She pulls you in quickly and you have to just keep reading to figure out what is going on.
While the twists in this weren’t completely unique I didn’t see them coming. I loved how the emails added dimension to the story and really made me feel for Dawn and the situations she faced in the past.
Read if you love:
- Missing persons story
- Your coworkers (that you wouldn’t mind see go missing)
- Turtles
- Emails
- Popcorn thriller
Frieda does it again.
Twists and turns and .... turtles.
You'll never look at your coworkers the same way.
Dawn is a bit strange. All her coworkers at Vixed agree. She's awkward in her dealings with others and there's her obsession with turtles! I suspect she would be identified as on the autism spectrum. When she disappears under suspicious circumstances, Natalie (who occupies the next cubicle) is suspected of murdering her. Readers will understand from the beginning that there's WAY more to the story.
I could not put this book down. In the same manner of her other books, McFadden has created unforgettable characters and reveals the story in bits and pieces with shocking twists and turns that keep readers turning pages. The story alternates points of view between Dawn and Natalie. This is a cross between "Single, White Female" and "Gone Girl". I loved it!!
With Frieda McFadden, you are guaranteed a fast paced easy read. Just so much fun each time. I love reading a Freida book if I feel myself slumping.
It’s nice to have a thriller that isn’t so dark and horror filled that you need the right head space. I always have room for Frieda.
Thank you for my e arc!
Freida’s story telling is epic. I love how fast paced her books are and this one is no different. The twists are incredible and impossible to see coming. I’ll forever be a huge fan!!
I've become a HUGE Freida fan and I love her books. The beginning of this one did bore me just a tad. There is some character building and a lot of descriptions of things but that's really my only complaint about this book. Once I reached a certain part in the book it really took off for me. I could hardly stop reading it. It's a really great fast paced thriller with some good twists.
Thanks to the publisher for giving me an ARC of this book, I am definitely not almost a year late with actually reading it.
This was actually one of the better McFadden's I've read. Most of them end up being 3 star predictable but fast paced thrillers. This was also one of those, however I liked the story line a lot more and the dual perspectives made it interesting to see what had actually happened.
I had not read a lot of Freda McFadden before this novel. I was pleasantly surprised how fast-paced and thrilling the story was to follow. It's not choppy like a James Patterson type thriller but it keeps a good steady pace and you interested in what's going on. It is definitely one of the few novels that I have read straight through in recent months.
Why do people like this author so much? I genuinely don't get it. The writing wasn't great, which I can look past if the story is compelling enough but this is just not it.
This is my first McFadden book but I will definitely be adding her to my shelf of authors I follow. This gripping thriller had lots of twists and turns and kept you guessing all the way through. Two co-workers with a complicated relationship come to a boiling point when one of these women disappears. As the story progresses we discover that most of the key characters have secrets they are hiding, no one is exactly who they seem.
Who do you trust and who do you root for in this situation? I like that while these were people who are deeply flawed, you still stay engaged and care about the outcomes. This is an easy and fast read that's hard to put down, perfect book for thriller fans.
4 stars.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This thriller will engage you until the very end. People are not always who they seem to be. The new coworker in charge of accounts goes digging through the records to see why the company is not more profitable. What she finds leads her to fear for her life.
Freida, Freida, Freida! I keep coming back for your addicting books. The Coworker did not disappoint. A workplace thriller, say less! I love some workplace drama!!
We can agree or not, lol, that if you’re a Freida Fan or not, you already know her books can come with some unlikeable characters, some wayyyyyy out there unbelievable plot twists and some pot holes but still you’re here because you know you’re in for a fun twisty ride! Cancel my plans, I’m booked! And Freida has me hooked with every book.
Thank you to the publisher for granting me access to an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest thoughts. All opinions are my own. I’m looking forward to this author’s next fast pace popcorn thriller.
I truly enjoy reading Freida McFadden’s books and this one is no exception! She has an excellent way of building up to the plot twist with carefully placed red herrings and thrilling tension. Dawn was such an interesting character and I love that these characters can be imperfect but still very dynamic. Any thriller lover would enjoy the fun game of cat and mouse.
I recently read a book by Freida McFadden and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. The book was well-written, engaging, and thought-provoking. McFadden has a way with words that draws you in and keeps you hooked until the very end.
The characters were well-developed and relatable, and the plot was intriguing and kept me guessing. I found myself thinking about the book long after I had finished reading it, which is always a sign of a good book in my opinion.
Overall, I would highly recommend any book by Freida McFadden. Her writing is top-notch and I can't wait to read more from her in the future.
This is a great murder mystery that’s so full of twists and turns that they don’t stop until the last page. It’s a typical Freida book in that IT’S AWESOME. Some possible triggers for people include bullies, suicide, and cheating.
Thank you to Net Galley and Freida McFadden for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
