Wow! This book has some twists and turns!
I was super excited to read this one being a fan of Frieda's books and the Coworker/bullying theme intrigued me having been bullied by a Coworker in the past myself, so wanted to see how this would go.
I admit and some other reader have confirmed that the first 50% of the book is a bit slow with a LOT of talk about turtles. Don't get me wrong I actually really like turtles, my only tattoo is of a turtle but the book is a bit much although I get why.
Fast forward to the 2nd half of the book and it picks up pace bit...Part II OMG did not see that coming and there were more twists, turns and revelation all the way till the very very end.
Give it a read if you enjoy Frieda.
3 stars for the first half of the book, 5 stars for the 2nd half.
Freida McFadden never disappoints! Her books are always so fast-paced and easy to read. I mean there are always some plot twists in her books that are guessable but some just blew me away! I really enjoyed this book and it's definitely a great thriller/mystery to binge.
Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for giving me an ARC of this book!
Very quick read that kept me entertained. It was a good mystery that was fast paced. Twists and turns were believable making it more entertaining.
Freida does it again with another fun thriller!
I didn’t love this one as much as some others of hers, but it was still very good. Maybe a little less turtle-talk?
Natalie is the popular, beautiful, best sales woman at a company named Vixed. Dawn is the quiet, calculated, turtle-loving accountant who sits in the cubicle next to Natalie.
We are taken on a rollercoaster of hearsay where all the characters’ stories tell a different tale of incidents that happened. That is, until it all comes together in a twist at the end in true Frieda McFadden fashion. I will say, I did guess the whodunit early on but it didn’t change my view about the book.
Special thanks to NEtGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and Freida McFadden for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
this was basic but entertaining. I liked the writing and how fast paced the story was going at but it was predictable honestly
4 stars
I couldn’t put this one down! I had fun trying to figure out what the heck happened to Dawn.
I’ve heard a lot of things about the narrator so I’m glad I read the ebook for it bc a bad narrator can absolutely ruin a book for me.
This author really hooks you in & knowing what I know about her writing, I was expecting a twist after the twist!! And it happened but of course not in the way I expected AT ALL!
The ending was wilddddddd. We got some scary people in our midst 👀
McFadden is a fav! And this one didn’t disappoint. I thought I knew where it was going, I was so confident that I had figured out the twist, only to be thrown for a loop!
The multiple POV with contradicting stories had me so back and forth and confused in a good way. It was so hard to decide who the bad guy was, and in the end, I was shocked to find out.
I enjoyed the character development and backstory provided, I did find Dawn’s character to be super annoying and honestly she gave me the heebie jeebies. But I guess that was kind of the point with this one, so great job writing her character, Freida!
As always with McFadden, I highly recommend this one!
Well Freida McFadden, you've got me good again! Another entertaining read full of twists that have my head spinning like a spiralizer!
I actually listened to this one on audio along with my ebook version and I loved listening to it! Dawn reminds me of someone like Molly from The Maid bt Nita Prose with her quirky personality and the narrator did a brilliant job of bringing that personality to life that it felt like Dawn was one of my coworkers!
Obsessed with turtles and a little OCD is Dawn Shiff, an accountant at Vixed, a nutritional supplement company. She is always at her desk at precisely 8:45am every day. So the day that she isn't is a shock, particularly to coworker, Natalie Farrell ... and when her disappearance turns into a murder investigation, Natalie becomes one of the number of suspects at the office.. but who would want Dawn dead ?!
Buckle up and enjoy the thrill of this ride my fellow thriller lovers! It is an absolute binge worthy and twisted one!
Do you ever really know your coworkers? This book reminds you that you don't! It's a thrilling story, with untrustworthy and often unlikable characters that kept me guessing until the end.
The Co-Worker by Freida McFadden was a fast paced read with multiple twists and turns keeping me up way into the night! Dawn pulled my heart strings as I read about her awkward encounters at the office and couldn’t help but get frustrated with Dawn’s attitude as I read. Freida is a gifted writer, being able to pull out all the emotions of the reader while keeping them on the edge of their seat as they read. Always looking to Freida’s next exciting story!!
The Coworker by Freida McFadden just did not hold my interest and fell flat. Sorry did not engage me to be able to give it a good review. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved this author's Housemaid series, but I was left a bit disappointed by The Coworker. It follows the thriller formula (which Freida McFadden has absolutely mastered), but I just didn't connect well with the protagonist (a mousy accountant who is very odd) and the plot (her relationship with the office babe).
3/5 stars
We are introduced to one of the MC Dawn through a series of emails she writes to coworkers and her best friend Mia. Through them we learn how she has been bullied at work by the beautiful popular Natalie. Then Dawn comes up missing and when Natalie goes to check on her she finds evidence of foul play. Suddenly Natalie is being accused of her murder and we learn there is more to Dawn than meets the eye. A game of cat and mouse ensues where we learn hidden secrets and what each woman is truly capable of.
Natalie and Dawn are co-workers, but you wouldn't go so far as to call them friends. That being said, when Dawn doesn't turn up for work one day, Natalie is convinced something is wrong and tries to track her down. It soon becomes clear that Dawn has been killed and it is pinned on Natalie as rumours of bullying at work come to light.
This was a bit of a weird one for me as I really wanted to love it; some bits were excellent and others just weren't. The book is told largely from Natalie's point of view, and is interspersed with emails from Dawn to a mysterious friend. I enjoy this kind of storytelling as I like to try and put the clues together to work out the twists.
Neither of the main characters are particularly likeable; Natalie is pretty stuck up and arrogant and Dawn is incredibly odd. I think this may be part of the reason why I didn't enjoy the book as much as I had hoped.
I found the first part of the book to be quite slow; in contrast, part 2 was full of twists and turns, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, the ending fell slightly flat for me.
I love most of Freida's books, but this sadly wasn't a favourite.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
1st I wanna say that I was super excited to see that my 1st ARC was a Freida McFadden book!! So thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy😊
.
This was my 7th book to read by Freida, and as much as I love her books, I feel like this one might be my least favorite so far. Not that it was a bad book, but I just felt like it was a bit predictable and unrealistic. I figured out the main twist half way through the book, but there were still a couple others that did catch me off guard!
The main character was not likeable at all, and I didn’t feel like the surrounding characters were much either.
At the end of the day, it was still a fast paced easy read just in Freida’s style! Still worth the read to me! 3⭐️
If Freida McFadden does one thing right…it’s write thrillers. This one in particular wasn’t my FAVORITE but I know it’s going to be popular. It was an easy, fast paced read and takes place mainly within an office, which was different than her others I’ve read. I gave it three stars because I thought it was a little predictable and there wasn’t a big shock like I like at the end of a thriller. It was a good book and I can see where people are rating it highly, but for me it was just…good.
Another great Freida McFadden thriller.

Everybody loves a little work place drama, but this might be more than anyone can handle. When Dawn goes missing all the secrets start to come out.
I will forever read all things Freida McFadden!

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I have really loved this author's work.
Natalie is one of those people who are always on time to work. Likes to make sure they are doing their job and does not have time for the nonsense. Dawn, who works with Natalie, notices she is different and doesn't talk to her too much. When Natalie doesn't show up for work one day after leaving a message that she needed to speak with Dawn. That is when our story gets a little more; oh no, what happened? We get to see how Natalie views Dawn when she corresponds with her friend Mia and when the police start putting things together. Does Dawn have anything to do with Natalie disappearing? Or is there something more going on than meets the eye? I was shocked at how well the author hid things. I was not expecting the story to go the way it did. Who really is Dawn? Who really is Natalie? Filled with twists and turns it will leave you guessing until the end.
What a great mystery! I kept guessing til the end . You will want to read this . 4 stars. I really didn’t like any of the characters but it didn’t keep me from reading
Natalie is a sales rep for a nutritional supplement company. One day her ultra responsible and organized coworker, Dawn, doesn’t show up to work. She drives to Dawn’s place, discovers the door is open, and begins to search the house for her. When she sees a large amount of blood on the floor, she immediately calls the police. However, everything she tells the police sounds suspicious!
Does Natalie know more than she’s letting on? Or could she actually be responsible for Dawn’s disappearance? There are so many twists and turns in this one I couldn’t put it down and read it one sitting!! I love how the murderer could be any one the characters and the ending isn’t predictable!
If you’ve read any of this author’s books, you know she always delivers! And if you haven’t read any, and love a good thriller, I highly recommend this book!!
Thank you to @netgalley and @poisonedpenpress for this advanced ebook copy! All opinions are my own.
