3.75 rounded to a 4. Some parts of the book I LOVED. And others just Meh.
Overall, a good read. Well written and had me guessing throughout the book. Enjoyed the characters and found myself flipping back and forth to who I was "cheering" for :) #TeamDawn #TeamNatatie
The 2 perspectives kept me on my toes - and trying to figure out who was really doing what.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc
*I also listened to parts of this book via audiobook (purchased that myself), and have to say the narrator was AMAZING!
3.75 stars
The Coworker by Freida Mcfadden is a thriller that follows two points of view. The bully and the bullied. The characters in this book were kept in the highest level of stereotypical people but it worked because it allowed for the element of mystery that made me want to keep reading. I have read so many of Mcfadden's books that I always savor when a new comes out or I start to go back into her backlist. This isn't her worst work but not her best. Would consider this over her newest release Ward D. Excited for her next release The teacher. Will always eat these up. Would recommend this anyone that is in a reading slump or want a fast paced book.
Frieda can do now wrong when it comes down to morally ambiguous characters, devastating secrets, and anxiety inducing climaxes and storylines! The Co-Worker is fast paced and engaging thriller that digs into our work culture and how well we really know the people we spend so much time with at the office.
This book was good not great. I feel like I predicted what was going to happen before it did and it just felt so straight forward. Even though I am disappointed in how predictable it was, it was a very Freida fun time.
I literally could not put this book down!!! It was a really fast paced book with lots of fun twists, and of course - turtles! No spoilers but you’ll see once you read it !
Freida always has a way of capturing your attention, and it seems with this latest release that she’s fine-tuned her craft even more! I loved the story line and the true to life dynamic of coworkers Dawn and Natalie - if you have ever worked in an office you will absolutely get this vibe!
Thank you so much to Freida and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy - I enjoyed every second! I read it in 1.5 days and would highly recommend this book!
Watch out though - once you read a Freida book - you will become a Freida Readah for life!
I really enjoyed this, I did pick parts of the endings, however some of the twists caught me by surprise.
I feel like I now know way too much about turtles.
Overall, I did enjoy this book, just not my favourite Freida book.
QUICK TAKE: I really struggled with this one. Felt half-baked, with twists that were telegraphed from chapter one. Also, a LOT of turtle stuff.
I’m usually left feeling overly excited after having just read one of her books, this one not so much. Maybe I resonated too much with our main character Dawn? Maybe I’m too familiar with characters like Natalie? Either way, I think I was hoping for something a little different…
This story starts off with Dawn Schiff not showing up for work one day. This is very odd as Dawn is always very prompt, meticulous, and never misses work. Natalie, her coworker decides to go looking for her. Natalie seems very worried about Dawn, and insists that she was always kind to her while other people in the office were not. However, Dawn has emails that she wrote to a friend that prove otherwise…
I can see where McFadden was going with this book, as we are all tired of bullies. We are tired of bullies getting away with everything with no repercussions, while the those of us who get bullied continue to suffer. Where is the justice?!
This is book is divided into two parts. I really enjoyed Part I, but Part II- not as much. It did have some nice twists, but they just didn’t “wow” me like I thought they would. All in all, this is a fun read- and I will be looking out for more from McFadden in the future!
Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! This was a thrilling read that follows two people from the same office - Dawn and Natalie. They’re very different and Dawn is much more awkward and shy than Natalie, who is beautiful and popular. I love this author’s previous books and an office setting really appealed to me. It’s fast-paced and I did not guess the twists, which shows it’s a good mystery/thriller! If you like those genres, be sure to check this one out.
I am not sure how McFadden continuously delivers hit after hit with each of her new novels! This is twist after twist and is utterly magnificent!! Her plot and character development is top-notch!
Freida McFadden is quickly becoming one of my favorite thriller authors. Although this one had a few plot points that were a tad far fetched, it’s still a solid and compelling thriller.
This is the first book by McFadden that I have read, but I have heard so many great things about her novels. I liked the way readers were kept guessing the entire way through the story. The book is full of unreliable narrators and it unfolds in dual point of view, which helps with the mystery aspect even more. How well do you really know your coworkers, and how do you know if you can really trust someone. This book makes you think and it has a lot of twists and turns with an ending I did not see coming.
Fast paced read and enough to keep me interested. Quirky characters and a great plot twist. There's a reason why readers are quickly discovering and devouring Freida McFadden books!
I have become a big Freida Readah so I definitely was excited to read The Coworkers. I am also a fan of turtles so a coworker obsessed with turtles had me hooked. This book had lots of secrets and twists and I never would have predicted it at all.
I read this in one sitting! Freida McFadden definitely knows how to write a page turner. She takes ordinary, relatable life situations (in this case, working in an office with different friendship/coworker dynamics) and adds drama and murder and twists and turns. I highly recommend this to any thriller lover.
Read this one on its release week! I have discovered Freida this year and she is one of my fave new authors. I didn't like this one as much as some of her others like The Housemaid, but it was still a really, quick and fun read.
Hooboy - Buckle up, buttercup, because this was a WILD ride. This was my first Freida book, and I was NOT disappointed. We all have the coworker that can get under your skin, the goody two shoes, the over achiever, and the slacker. None you'd actually want to kill, though, right? WRONG
The suspense was REAL in this book. I was hooked from the get-go. I had to know where Dawn was, if she was dead, and was Natalie really capable, or was she just a scapegoat?
The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars was the fact I just couldn't stand Dawn's long ass emails. 🤣 I mean. It helped you understand how quirky she was, but every email to Mia had me going l, "Not agaaaaain!"
Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the Advanced Reader Copy!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the oppotunty to read the ARC of The Coworker by Freida McFadden. This was the first book I've read by McFadden, but it won't be my last! This was a great workplace murder mystery that kept me on my toes. There were a lot of twists, which I thought I would be able to predict. While I did see some things coming, McFadden was able to make a few of the twists even more obscure than I imagined at first and threw me off the trail. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller which will keep you on the edge of your seats, I highly suggest this book! Thank you again for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I loved this book! It was just the right amount of turtles. The twists and turned throughout the book were great as well! I will always recommend a Freida McFadden book.
WOW! Another fast-paced thriller by Freida! I liked both of the main characters in this book, and I definitely didn't see the twist coming! I liked the character build of Dawn through the emails that she was sending to her best friend. She was portrayed as the victim throughout half of the book, and then boom, plot twist! I was rooting for Natalie in the end. Can't wait for another book!!
