The Coworker is a rollercoaster of a read! Frieda McFadden keeps us scratching our heads trying to figure out what is going on. Just when you think you've got the missing piece of the puzzle, another twist in the plot lets you know you were wrong! Right to the very end of the book, the reader is kept in the dark. This thriller will not disappoint!
I read The Housemaid because EVERYONE was coming into the store looking for it and it was consistently selling out so of course I needed to see what it was about. Before I even started reading it I downloaded The Coworker on the advice of a coworker who reads every Freida McFadden book. I enjoyed The Housemaid but liked this one even more. I can see why McFadden has become such a popular writer, her books are enjoyable, full of twists, and easy to start playing armchair detective with.
Freida is by far the mastermind of amazing writing! The Co-worker is another one of her home runs! Great story line and the book made it so easy
First i want to Thank NetGalley and PoisonedPenPress for the opportunity to read this ARC of this book.
I have to say i kind of was a bit upset with this book. To me the majority of it was predictable and not quite as good as previous books i have devoured by this author. Characters were nice and i loved the storyline but i wasn't on the edge of my seat like normal. I guessed the end before it took place. The first half of the book seemed to be better than part 2. The part 2 to me just seemed meh. Was a good book but i probably wouldnt read it again.
Thank you Poison Pens, Freida McFadden, and Netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the turtle aspect of the story. I thought it was a good, fast paced story. I liked the twist at the end. Definite must read for those who like Freida! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 solids on this one! If you want a fast paced book, this one is for you.
Such a gripping mystery by Frieda McFadden. I didn't see the ending coming in the way that it did. I loved the twist and devoured this book in one day. A must read!
Thank you netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest open.
Enjoyable read with a good twist. I kinda saw it coming but I didn't mind. Great quick read although the obsession with the turtles was a bit odd!
Would recommend especially if you don't want to have to concentrate too much on loads of characters.
My only criticism is that the characters aren't fleshed out but having said that it means that it's a very speedy read. I read it in 2-3 sittings!
As always Frieda has written a great easy to read thriller!
Freida McFadden is one of my favorite authors. I just finished The Locked Door right before starting The Coworker. I was really excited because I loved The Locked Door as well as the other books I have read by Freida. I really appreciate being given this advanced copy to review. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me. I love turtles, but there was too much turtle talk for me. Maybe I am not turtley enough for the turtle club. I pushed through knowing that in usual Freida style the book always gets better in the end. I did enjoy the last quarter of the book, but I would not recommend this as a first Freida read. I will read any book she writes, and I still look forward to her next one! I love the way her mind works, and she is hilarious on her fan page. I love her simple writing style that makes for a quick read and is a nice change of pace. This one was a 3.75 for me. I do plan to read it again to see if I like it better the second time around after a palette cleanser.
Freida has done it again!
I loved the housemaid by her and this didn't disappoint either!!!
def a new auto-buy author for me, and getting this ARC was such an amazing opportunity!!
📖⭐️ BOOK REVIEW ⭐️📖
Book: The Coworker
Author: Freida McFadden
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Trigger Warnings: Bullying, Suicide, Murder
The Coworker by Freida McFadden was the @upallnightbookclub_ September pick and it certainly didn’t disappoint, although I knew that it wouldn’t as McFadden has yet to disappoint me with this being my fifth book by the author this year!!
The Coworker is a fast paced thriller based around two extremely unreliable and sketchy main characters that keeps you guessing until the bitter end!! It’s told in two parts, the first part giving you detailed insights into the main characters and their backgrounds, the second part getting into the nitty gritty where you are not gonna be able to put the book down for even a second!! It’s a book you won’t want to stop reading, a perfect read when you need an escape from reality which is certainly what I needed today and it worked as I haven’t left my cosy spot all day and it’s been absolute bliss!!
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @poisonedpenpress for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I’m writing this review a little over a week after reading this and I barely remember anything bout this book. I picked this book up because I wanted something easy to read the week before my wedding. I didn’t have much an attention span and I wanted an easy to follow story.
Was it entertaining? Yes. But was it predictable? 1000%
I also found it to be a bit cringey in the way the women were depicted.
Overall: just fine but wouldn’t recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Another thriller from Freida McFadden!
Dawn is odd. Socially awkward, obsessed with turtles, and punctual down the minute. When she doesn't show up for work one day, her co-worker Natalie is concerned. Natalie gets more than she bargained for as she begins to dig into what happened to Dawn.
4 stars.
Shockingly it’s my first read by this author. Why! A deeply satisfying physiological thriller centred on two main characters and written from their PoV’s, interspersed with parts of emails, this was a quick and easy read. Natalie Farrell is 30 years old, single, beautiful and top sales person at Vixed, a nutritional supplement company based in Boston. Dawn Schiff is the company accountant, single and it appears that she is on the spectrum. She lives alone apart from her turtles and has no friends apart from Mia with whom she corresponds by email sharing her thoughts and events.
Briefly, Natalie has been summoned to an early morning meeting by Dawn over a matter of grave importance according to the email she received from Dawn. Natalie arrives for her meeting but Dawn doesn’t show up at all that day. As this is completely abnormal behaviour Natalie decides to visit her house. Entering through the back door, which is unlocked, she finds a lot of blood on the floor but no sign of Dawn.
This is so well conceived with such a clever plot I had to keep reading and finished in one sitting. Honestly I didn’t know who to trust, who to believe! Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and in my case largely incorrectly. As the histories of both women starts to materialise it’s clear that not much of it is pleasant but is it enough to justify murder? You have to read to find out! 4.5⭐️
I was GLUED to this- my second one by this author. Freida is becoming a go-to author for me, really like her twisty thrillers!
⭐️⭐️💫/5
Thanks heaps to @netgalley for giving me access to an ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My first Freida McFadden and this was not for me unfortunately.
The ideas/concept were there but the execution not the best. I found her writing style immature and narrative voices cringey. She "tells rather than shows". I'm unsure how I feel about her portrayal / inclusion of special interests. It felt very stereotyped and in-your-face while I was reading, but at the same time it is a reality for many people. I think it was just the writing that bothered me as I didn't feel like so much time (and repetition) needed to be spent on outlining those traits (including the MC's one colour food preferences).
Some chapters did read nicely and were genuinely compelling, but I did pick the "twist" from the start. I liked the exploration of bullying and its lasting and serious consequences, but I wasn't satisfied with how the characters acted at the end of the book - I'm not sure I bought it and felt that was how it could realistically end. I liked the emails and really felt invested when [SPOILERS] Dawn relayed how Natalie bullied her in the workplace. I didn't like how Natalie's workplace bullying was just brushed off in the end.[END SPOILERS]
I know lots of people love this author's books because they're very readable and easy/quick/short reads. They don't require much brain power and sometimes that's what people are looking for in their books/TV/movies.

Whew! What an exhilarating ride! I devoured this book in one sitting as I absolutely couldn't put it down. This is the 2nd book I have read from Freida McFadden (The Housemaid), and will absolutely not be my last.
While reading this, I kept being reminded of The Appeal by Janice Hallett, as this also contained mixed media and emails written by a main character that made me cringe. Not to mention the fact that all of the characters in each book were flawed and I wasn't really rooting for any of them. lol! This kept me on the edge of my seat to the very last page, and hopefully snapped me out of the reading slump I have been struggling with this month. I downrated this a star for the fact that I figured out the twists early on, but overall, this was an absolutely delightful and fun read that I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This book! OMG!
I read The Housemaid about 8 months ago and Freida quickly shot up to the top of my favorite authors list. How does she do it time and time again...you think you know what's going to happen and then...SMACK! twist...then turn...then twist again! Got this as an ARC but needed a physical copy for my shelf. Read in two sittings.
Well, what are you waiting for? Go get it if you don't have it...go read it if you haven't... just GO!!
Thank you to Freida McFadden, the publisher, and NetGalley for the eARC of The Coworker!
Natalie’s coworker, Dawn, is very punctual. Like, weirdly punctual. She shows up for work at the same time, uses the bathroom at the same time, and eats at the same time. When Dawn doesn’t show up for work one day, Natalie is very concerned. Dawn isn’t answering her phone, and someone even calls her work phone saying, “help me.” As the hours go on, Natalie feels she needs to go to Dawn’s house to check on her. What Natalie finds when she arrives is something beyond her wildest dreams. There is a broken wineglass in the kitchen, and there is a LOT of blood in the house. What happened to Dawn? Is there more to the story?
This book was really well written! I couldn’t stop reading it. McFadden’s writing always leaves me captivated and wanting more. Would highly recommend!
I absolutely enjoyed this book. I appreciated the very distinct voice between the two narrations which led me to believe in the story and become more invested.
It tackles some issues i.e bullying without strictly black and white perspective which got me initially rooting for the MC and then against and then just understanding their flaws.
Some twists and aspect I was able to deduce and predict correctly but it was still enjoyable.
Wow! This might be my favorite Freida McFadden book so far! I loved this book so much! I had a hard time putting it down!
I love how this book was written. I loved the two different POVs along with snippets of work emails and personal emails sent back and forth. They really gave some interesting perspectives on what was going on and how everything was transpiring.
Even though I knew what was going to happen for the first big twists, I still loved it. Then the other twists were very good and a couple were very shocking.
Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
