Thank you Poisoned Pen Press, Freida McFadden, and NetGalley for a copy of this Arc.

I liked the story. There were a few too many turtles, but I understand how they helped to portray Dawn and build the story.

The twists were good. The story kept me entertained.

4/5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley & Poisoned Pen Press for an eARC of The Coworker by Freida McFadden! As with all of Freida's books, this one that's easy to quickly binge, and I found myself staying up waaaay too late to keep reading "just one more chapter."

I saw the twist coming in this one, but loved it nonetheless. Dawn Schiff works at Vixed, a nutritional supplement company where she is an accountant. She is described as strange by her coworkers, and you'll see why as soon as you start reading. Her coworker Natalie tries to find Dawn when she doesn't show for work one day (not like Dawn at ALL) and the entire story unravels from there.

This is a plot that can truly be described as a game of cat and mouse. The tension can be felt through each chapter, and I love how Freida alternates between regular chapters and email chains that give us more backstory to work with.

As always, can't wait to see what Freida comes up with next.

In typical Freida style, this book is easy to read, fast paced, and suspenseful! It's written in alternate timelines and as the story progresses you start to doubt the narrator's truthfulness. Is Dawn telling the truth or is Natalie actually the victim? There are some important social themes in this book which I cannot reveal or it'll be a spoiler, but you'll find out soon enough. I feel that Freida has dealt with such themes appropriately, and has done a good job in raising (more) awareness and reminding us of this social issue. I had higher expectations of the ending maybe because I'm spoiled by Freida's earlier books (the Housemaid being my first, and favourite till this day) so I felt the ending was slightly underwhelming. There are also some gaps in the plot (I'm trying very hard not to reveal anything!) Nonetheless, you can expect the signature Freida twists (yes, more than one!) in this book, some of which you won't see coming!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Freida McFadden does it again! I loved The Coworker, her newest thriller. Dawn is the perfect coworker…or is she? She shows up every day like clockwork and her work is always precise. But when she doesn’t show up one day, Natalie knows something must be wrong. This quick read is one you won’t want to put down. There are many twists and turns and just when you think they’re over, brace yourself for the twist you won’t see coming! Thanks to NetGalley for early access in exchange for my honest feedback.

Wow! This book has some twists and turns!
I was super excited to read this one being a fan of Frieda's books and the Coworker/bullying theme intrigued me having been bullied by a Coworker in the past myself, so wanted to see how this would go.
I admit and some other reader have confirmed that the first 50% of the book is a bit slow with a LOT of talk about turtles. Don't get me wrong I actually really like turtles, my only tattoo is of a turtle but the book is a bit much although I get why.
Fast forward to the 2nd half of the book and it picks up pace bit...Part II OMG did not see that coming and there were more twists, turns and revelation all the way till the very very end.
Give it a read if you enjoy Frieda.
3 stars for the first half of the book, 5 stars for the 2nd half, sp an overall of 4 stars for this one.

Dawn Schiff is viewed as a strange person by her coworkers. She is obsessed with turtles, she's serious and awkward, and she lacks social skills. She's also never late to work, so when she doesn't show up one morning, Natalie Farrell, the beautiful and popular top sales rep, is concerned.

When Natalie goes to Dawn's house to check on her, she discovers that foul play is involved, and suddenly, she is the number one suspect!

Told thru Natalie's POV and email correspondence that Dawn had with her only friend, Mia, we get two different stories and are not sure who to believe. This was a fast-paced book, and I flew through it in about 24 hours. I loved the cat and mouse game and all the twists. I was able to guess one, but the others were surprising!

Thank you, @netgalley, @poisonedpenpress, and @fmcfaddenauthor for the #gifted e-arc of this book!

I read this in 24 hours and could not put it down. This was the perfect, fast paced thriller that truly kept my engaged from the first page. I loved how relatable it was (who hasn’t had a strange co worker) but also so twisty and unique! I’m telling all my friends to pick this one up.

This was another good read by this author. This book is just what you expect it to be. It had a few twist and turns that you aren’t expecting. It also has a lot of things that are predictable. The book is also easy to read and it flows well. If you are a fan of this author this book is a great addition. I look forward to reading more. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My first thought to the Co-worker was meh. But then I found myself stewing on it and when that happens I know I have enjoyed it more than I originally thought. So the characters, if you like vengeful, vindictive but somehow, (and I am not sure how Ms McFadden pulled it off) likable, then this is for you. At the end you may not know much of the truth. But, most of us would not want to be judged by our 17 year old selves.

First of all, McFadden never disappoints. I have read all of her book and this one was another excellent read. I was NOT expecting the ending. Just when you think you have it figured out, she throws the biggest twist in and you close the book with your jaw dropped. I love this about her books. Also do not be surprised if you learn more about turtles than you ever thought you would or might need to know. :)
Very good character development, grabs you from the first page as all of her books do, and hard to put down.

THE COWORKER by Freida McFadden.
Freida is an automatic read for me. If she wrote fortune cookies, I’d buy them all just to see what she had to say. This book was as good as all of her other reads. This one had a creepy factor to it. I found myself saying out loud “Ew! What?” Several times. You think you know, but you don’t. I did not see that twist coming at all. I am finding myself looking a little bit closer at my coworkers these days and I definitely can’t look at turtles the same way. I don’t want to give anything away at all because it’s too much fun to spoil. Thank you Netgalley and Freida McFadden for the honor and the gift of getting to read this book.

Such a great book, kept me hooked! I loved how it went back and forth showing both point of views, definitely kept me on my toes

The Coworker missed the mark for me. It was definitely not bringing edge of my seat thriller vibes. Some of the details repeated and the super detailed emails bugged me. It made sense later, but while reading it was irritating, I understand Dawns need to fixate on turtles but it was a little too much for me at personally. I also didn't enjoy how towards the latter part of the book, Dawn didn't seem to be on the spectrum as much. I'm still a Freida fan, this one just didn't wow me.

This novel started off slow, but once it picked it up it was really good. The characters were interesting with good dialogue and storyline.

I really enjoyed this book and the setting. I liked the workplace/coworker aspect. I really experienced a love/hate relationships with all of the characters.

Personally, I found this one to be less mind boggling and jaw dropping. While there were twists that shocked me, I felt that this one didn’t throw me for a total loop. I was able to piece some of it together which when I read a Freida Mcfadden book I am never able to predict any of it.

I definitely recommend this book for the fall because of how mysterious it is!

3.5/5

This is my favorite McFadden I’ve read so far! It was twisty and I never saw where it was going. Previously I haven’t been a fan of McFadden’s other novels so I’m very happy to say I liked this one! Thanks to NetGalley and Source Books for the eARC.

I’ve read every single one of Freidas books, and was excited for this new one. It didn’t have the same vibe as her others, and the first half of the book was very slow to me. The second half however was much better, with the twists I didn’t see coming and a more quickened pace.
This wasn’t one of my favorites of Freidas, but I still give it a solid 4 stars (where pretty much all her other books have been 5 stars for me).
