Freida McFadden has become one of my must-read new authors, based on two of her books thus far. With her latest, The Coworker, hitting the market this week, I was thoroughly enraptured with the main characters. So unlikeable yet I rooted for them in a few unexpected ways. Bullies. Weirdos. Philanderers. That's the focus, at least according to how each have been typecast. Perhaps the layers go deeper. But when you never find the body, how can you really be sure the person is dead? Lots of interesting characters with more backstories that I wanted to learn about, hence why only 4 stars, but still, nice even-paced rollercoaster ride... and by that I mean there was always this underlying tension that brought me up and down until each major twist. Highly recommended.
Another fast paced, brain candy thriller from Freida McFadden! I've been a fan of McFadden's thrillers for awhile now, and get excited for each new novel! I think the building of characters and making a reader think they know the characters and then plotting complete mind blowing twists is McFadden's specialty- and The Coworker is no exception!
The story jumps right into the action, with Natalie showing up to work to find her predictable coworker, Dawn, hasn't shown up. And then there is this strange phone call with someone saying "help me"! Suddenly, Natalie finds herself right at the center of this strange disappearance and slowly little buried secrets start to pop-up, sending Natalie into a frantic race to try to keep herself together and find out what is going on. It is quite the cat and mouse read, but for the reader - knowing who is the cat and who is the mouse isn't so clear!
I fevoured The Coworker by Freida McFadden in 24 hours; unfortunately, I was supposed to be sleeping a number of those hours! I simply could not put it down. Although I saw the plot twists coming, I still found the storyline fascinating and the characters gripping. Excellent book! I have only read one other book by Freida McFadden, which was also excellent, but now I will definitely seek out all her novels!
She don't miss! I've started to read Freida McFadden books in between the books I'm supposed to read, just as a treat. That's great for me, because I really like her books, but it's also ungreat, because I'm running out of them. As such, it's a delight to see a new one. And just like all the others I've read, this was a banger.
If she writes it, I will read it! Everyone in the office has secrets. Some have multiple. With this twisty read, you will devour it quickly. Fast paced thriller. Make sure you read this book if you like thrillers. You think you have this pegged as a predictable read, but you will be in for a shock.
Thanks to NetGalley and poisoned pen press for this arc of this great book.
Two women. An office filled with secrets….
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of “The Coworker”! It’s so hard to wait for her books to be released so I was very grateful! “The Coworker” although wasn’t my favorite Freida book it was still worth the read as always! It was quirky, fun, and easy to read! As with any of her books I always fly through the pages. This is the first book that I actually guessed the ending (for the most part anyway) but I didn’t feel disappointed because of it. I laughed because I’m never right.
Read the book and watch out for turtles! 🐢
Freida has done it again — written another binge worthy thriller that takes you on a wild roller coaster ride psychological thriller.
Can you trust your co workers? Are they really who they say they are. I loved the way she wrote this and I love all of her books but this one may just be my favorite. Although when I see a turtle I will always think of Dawn Schiff.
Thank you Freida McFadden for keeping me totally engrossed in The Coworker on a long boring car trip. I never took a break from it, with frequent gasps uttered much to my husband’s annoyance.
Dawn and Natalie, two coworkers in cubicles next to each other, were perfectly introduced. Dawn was so OCD and definitely on the spectrum. Natalie was introduced as a highly successful, beautiful young go getter. As more of the story unfolded, cracks formed along those molds. The addition of the text exchanges between Dawn and Mia were genius…especially later in the book.
The twists and turns McFadden used so very effectively kept the tension strong throughout the story. A few I had figured out but some were a total surprise. The auxiliary characters played their roles convincingly and effectively, but Dawn and Natalie carried the book almost to the finish line.
I also love sea turtles but will long connect them to this book. Many many thanks to Freida McFadden, Hollywood Upstairs Press, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an arc of this just published read. I fully expect to see this on the big screen some day soon.
Another fast-paced , binge worthy read from Freida McFadden. The Coworker will have you hooked from the beginning and guessing until the end!
I enjoyed the book, was easy to read and there was a fair few twists, I didn't like the way Dawn was portrayed though she obviously has some neurodivergent traits and this was highlighted regularly as being odd and weird, maybe just a bit more of how this is normal for some people, this may just be my view as being close to people with autistic traits. I didn't guess how it was going to go which is always a plus for me I hate guessing especially early on, I just couldn't work out what was going to happen so that was good, all in all I would recommend this book just maybe not to anyone with these traits
This was soooo boring!! Not like Freida’s normal books. I guessed the twist early on and it just seemed so blah. Major disappointment!
Thank you to NetGalley & Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC of this book! I didn’t get to read it until today, but finished it mostly in one sitting!
I had trouble getting into this book, I thought the beginning gave some background that wasn’t really necessary to the story, and didn’t give too much insight into the characters either. But, maybe 30% of the way through it picked up and I sped through it. I did pretty much guess the twists by the time they were revealed, but the way things moved quickly through the second half of the book kept me reading. I liked how in the end, regardless of who you were rooting for throughout the book, the reveal of the truth makes you second guess yourself up to the last page!
This was my first Freida McFadden book and although it didn’t blow me away, it was a run read and I would read one of her books again.
Holy moly! This book was soooo twisty. I kept thinking I had it figured out, I definitely did not lol. Freida has such a skillful way of writing, and she sets the scene so well it’s like I was there! I love how things were wrapped up with a nice little bow by the end. It was never outwardly said that one of the FMCs had autism, but the traits were definitely there and that was my first time reading about a character like that in a thriller. Overall, this book was an amazing experience and I’d highly recommend it!
Queen Freida does it again. My head is still spinning, I can't decide if I am team Nat or team Dawn. I want to hate and love both of them! The twist and turns were spot on like always! I was SURE I got it, after reading ALL of her psychological thrillers.... of course I was wrong!
This time she leaves you thinking... Do you really know your Coworker?
Loved the twists (plural). So many turtle facts which shows the amount of research that was performed. Enjoyed that the locations were Dorchester. Cohasset, Quincy and Weymouth. I’ve lived in two of the locations. Loved this novel!
This book was AMAZING! I really thought I had this one figured out about 25% way through and I couldn’t have been more wrong. This book took me on an rollercoaster. The pace never let up, and kept me hooked from beginning to end trying to figure out who actually did it. Normally I’m not a fan of dual POVs in psychological thrillers but this was done extremely well. I really liked how both coworkers were painted as unreliable and I couldn’t tell which one to trust. And even at the end you’re still left like damn what? It was so good and 100% worth the read.
This was a fast paced binge-able mystery thriller that I could not put down! I devour everything Freida McFadden writes & this was no different. If you’re looking for an easy read that will capture you on the 1st page, this is the book for you.
Thank you for the advanced copy!🧡
I was very excited to get an early copy but then life got in the way and I couldn't get to it until a few days after the release date.
I read this in practically one sitting. I haven't read anything this fast-paced in a while. What a wild ride! Still left with a few minor questions but maybe once I give it a few days to sink in the answers will come.
I received this as an ARC on #netgalley.
What a treat! I have loved all the books I've read by Freida McFadden and this was no exception.
Once again, she had me changing my mind every other chapter as to what was really going on.
So much fun!!

The coworker was a wild read. I felt like I had all angles covered for what I thought could happen, and I was still wrong. The last chapter was what really solidified my great feelings for this book story and my jaw was on the ground. definitely recommend this book and lIl be diving into more Freida McFadden books soon.
