This book is fast paced and filled with plot twists. I believe one of our main characters “Dawn” may have autism (this is neither confirmed nor denied in the book), I thought this added a lot to her character as a whole. McFadden has this way of writing the creepiest scenes that just get under your skin, especially her last pages where things are always revealed to be not as you thought they were. This was my second McFadden book and I very much enjoyed the murder mystery aspects of it and it’s unpredictable!
Freida delivers another great binge worthy read!
I’ve read a lot of her books and they never disappoint!
The story definitely grips you in and has you guessing on who actually did what and when?!
Also queen of plot twist had my mouth on the floor!!
You will definitely learn about turtles reading this one.
Dawn & Natalie are coworkers & one goes missing…. But what happened ??? Read to find out!
There are two places you should feel (at least relatively) safe - in your own home and at work. A person should also not feel bullied or visibly disliked at their workplace either. However, for Dawn Schiff, Vixed is not a safe place. The reader follows Dawn's coworker, Natalie Farrell, as she uncovers the mystery as to why Dawn did not show up to work one morning - something unheard of for Dawn. As Natalie digs deeper into this mystery, the more confused and concerned she becomes. Without really asking for it, Natalie is thrown right into the middle of the chaos and soon all eyes are on her. What happened to Dawn? Where is she? Can you trust your coworkers or is there danger lurking in the cubicle next to you?
Freida has done it again! I will admit for the first 25% of the book I was confused as to where this was going and how Natalie was going to play a part in this. However, things quickly became chaotic in true Freida fashion. Like most of her other books, I read this one in a day! I could not put it down. At points, I even audibly expressed my shock - now MY coworkers must think I'm strange. Freida approaches neurodiversity and bullying in a respectful, but deeply real way. I really felt for Dawn as the book progressed. But, wow! Two unreliable narrators?! I'm still not sure who I believe and what really happened in my home state of Massachusetts. If you're a fan of Freida's, this is a must! If you are new to her work, this is a great introduction; welcome to the club in advance!
Another wonderful read by Freida McFadden! I found this newest thriller to be full of intrigue and excitement as the story unfolds. The twists and reveals were good, albeit somewhat predictable in my opinion. But that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable to read.
Literally my fave Freida book!! I have been looking forward to this for months and then I got accepted for the ARC read! This book gripped me from the beginning. I literally couldn't put it down, and it gripped me throughout the entire book!
Usually with Freida main characters I find them...dumb...and dislikable from the beginning. However, this book had me conflicted the entire time!!!!! And that epilogue was insane!
Can't wait to read more by this author! Thank you for allowing me to be an ARC reader :)
This is my favorite Freida McFadden book! I had so many emotions reading this book: shock, anger, and sadness. I even felt sorry for all of the characters at some point, even Natalie! This book also has the Freida twist at the end that we all love! Bravo Freida! #NetGalley
A giant thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks, Poisoned Pen Press for my copy.
Anyone that is a Freida Readah knows she can put out some pretty twisted tales. She manages to keep you guessing every single time and have you thinking you got it, but then, oh no, you were wrong. The Coworker has those twists but this one has an unusual twist to it that I never even imagined would take place - it also gives a very meaningful message.
I'm pretty sure we all have or have had an annoying coworker, but have you ever wished them dead? Um, maybe? (just kidding, just kidding, just kidding!) But, have you ever thought that you were the annoying coworker without realizing it? Maybe had a favorite subject that you always talk about? Have any little habits that might be annoying to others? Have you never not quite fit in no matter how hard you try?
My favorite read by this author has always been The Wife Upstairs because it was my first and what made me a fan. But, this is written so it keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning pages like hers always do, but the fact that she relays a message on the very real impacts of bullying now puts this at the top of my list as the favorite.
It's a must read. On a side note, I still love turtles.
I’d like to thank Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Coworker’ written by Freida McFadden in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Dawn Schiff and Natalie Farrell work at adjoining cubicles at Vixed, a company selling nutritional supplements. When Dawn fails to arrive for work at her normal time Natalie is concerned that something has happened to her so drives to her home where she finds the door open and a lot of blood on the floor, but no sign of Dawn. As Detective Santoro reads through Dawn’s emails to her best friend Mia, it becomes clear that she’s been the victim of bullying and Natalie is the chief suspect.
‘The Coworker’ is a tense psychological thriller that’s had me in its grip from page one and didn’t let go until I reached the end. It’s packed so full of suspense, drama, calculating characters and heart-stopping twists and turns that I wasn’t sure how the plot would pan out and had to keep reading just one more chapter to find out. This is the first thriller I’ve read by Freida McFadden but it won’t be the last as I’m adding her to my list of favourite authors. This is an excellent thriller, brilliantly written and one I can recommend.
"The Coworker" by Freida McFadden is a gripping tale that masterfully plays with trust and suspense. Freida's skill at crafting intricate characters left me perpetually uncertain about the true mastermind behind the unfolding events. The narrative's ability to keep me on my toes throughout is a testament to Freida's storytelling prowess. As the story progressed, Dawn's enigmatic nature and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her disappearance kept the intrigue alive. My journey as a reader took unexpected turns as I found myself entangled in a chilling game of cat and mouse, questioning the roles of both victim and perpetrator.
The web of secrets within the office environment heightened the suspense, making every page a tantalizing experience. While the story ended on a satisfying note, the lingering desire for a sequel speaks to the author's ability to create a narrative world that I want to explore further. I'd award "The Coworker" 4 stars for its ability to deliver a suspenseful narrative that left me guessing until the very end. The intricate character dynamics and the skillful manipulation of trust make this book a compelling read, leaving me eagerly awaiting what Freida McFadden has in store next.
I have to say. I was so ready to read this book. I will always read a Freida book no matter what. That being said, I wasn't feeling The Coworker. In fact I kinda hated it! That is until about 70% when I stayed up until 2:30am finishing it up. The wrap up was pretty good. And, I actually knew towards the beginning who.......well, IYKYK
Thank you to NetGalley @FreidaMcfadden and @poisonedpenpress for this ARC in return for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy of this book. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.
Freida honestly doesn’t disappoint. I read this book in one sitting and was on my toes the whole dang time. I feel like all of her books are binge worthy. She just has a way with thriller novels.
I honestly did not see the ending coming. I had my suspicions about one person and was partly right but that ending…was crazy. I was very intrigued the whole time and kept trying to figure out how this book was going to end. And that’s exactly how I love my thriller books.
I always tell people who want to start reading thrillers to give a Freida McFadden book a whirl.
The one problem I had with this is that I wish it had been a bit longer but that’s it. It was fantastic. Highly recommend this!
4 stars!

I enjoy her writing style, she has a way to keep her readers intrigued! She has her readers roped in! Dawn was very nerve wrecking, and I was like I’m tired of her and I don’t wanna read this anymore more but I was like I really have to see my way through! 😅Freida has us thinking we know who’s the culprit and whose the guilty party! But then here she goes with the curveball! At moments I was like why it’s being dragged out this long ! 😬….
Rating : 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 4.5/5
Well Freida McFadden had done it again! This book was so good! I couldn’t put it down. I read it every chance I got. I felt it was fast paced due to finding out new information often throughout the book. I loved the emails sprinkled in. It really gave the book a cool aspect. I didn’t see a lot of the twists coming! The epilogue really blew my mind. I didn’t see it coming at all. I definitely recommend picking this book up. Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read this advanced copy and give my honest feedback.
The coworker by Frieda McFadden was a great read! I finished it in less than a day and highly recommend it.
Dawn Schiff has been working at Vixed for a few months, she’s always been reliable and always shows up to work at 8:45, one day she doesn’t show up and her coworker Natalie is concerned, Dawn is never late, she runs like clockwork. When the phone in Dawns cubicle rings Natalie decides to answer it. “Help me” is heard on the other end of the line. And Natalie is convinced she heard Dawns voice.
When she’s goes to Dawns house to check on her, she is surprised with what she finds. While she’s on the hunt to figure out what happened to Dawn, we learn more about what happened in the months leading up to Dawns disappearance.
These two completely different FMC’s are amazingly written, I went from loving one to loving the other about 50 times through the whole book. While I found the twist to be quite predictable, of course in Frieda fashion I didn’t guess it all. There’s always more beyond the horizon!
Thank you to NetGalley, Frieda and, Poisonedpenpress for this advanced reader copy!

Whoa!! This book was just crazy! Freida does it again ya’ll. The first twist in this book actually had me shocked at first, mouth hanging open, saying what???? Then I just started shaking my head laughing. I was shaking my head and saying to myself, “Of course she did it like this! This is why I love her so.” Freida, you got me. (Again) 🤯
I was so happy when I received this as an ALC from NetGalley. I listened right away and basically only stopped when I had to. But if I had the chance, I would’ve binged this audio all day long in one sitting. I loved the narrator. She was Alyson Krawchuk. She is a repeat voice of some of Freida’s books and I just love her and what she brings to the stories. So that was also a plus for me. 👏🏻👏🏻
For those who don’t know, this book is about two co workers, Dawn and Natalie. (There also is a character in the office named Kim and I just loved that too. Another plus 😉) But this is mostly about Dawn and Natalie. Dawn is newer at the company and tries to fit in and be friends with Natalie and the others. But she’s a little strange. She sends e-mails about everything and she has a crazy obsession with turtles. She has everything turtles. 🐢 Anyway, Dawn goes missing and her disappearance is being investigated. It could be a number of suspects at the office, but who? Who wants Dawn dead? 🤷🏻♀️
That’s all I want to say in fear of ruining anything for anyone. You can get more info from the synopsis if you want. Just know this was another hit from Freida. And you’ll want to read it. The twists were just like 😳😳🤯
This was for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars for me! You all need to get this book when it comes out. You won’t regret it!
Thank you to @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for this advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review!

I was so kindly granted an e-arc of The Coworker by Freida’s team at Poisoned Pen Press & Source Books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Freida McFadden has such an interesting way of making her stories so addictive. Her characters are always mysterious and you never know who you can or cannot trust. Her plots are just the perfect mix of believable and also kind of insane, while also just being extremely easy to consume. I always think I know where the story is going and then she completely catches me off guard and throws me for a huge loop by the end!
The Coworker was such a fun read! You get to read the present timeline following Natalie, a salesperson at a skincare and cosmetic company, and her search for answers as to what happened to her eccentric coworker who has suddenly gone missing. While trying to help find out what happened to Dawn, Natalie finds herself becoming the police’s top suspect in Dawn’s disappearance. Natalie swears she had nothing to do with it, but the evidence stacked against her is pretty damning that it has her questioning her involvement to some extent.
The other storyline you are following is email correspondents dating back several months between Dawn, the quirky and turtle obsessed new accountant at Vixed, and her lifelong childhood best friend. In these emails, Dawn recounts to her friend the experiences she has had since working there and the strange interactions she has had with Natalie during that time. Dawn’s email accounts of the different hardships she’s faced at the company, may not line up with Natalie’s. So, who’s story is the truth? You may think you know, but you’re probably not entirely correct. 😉
Thank you again, Freida and your team, for allowing me to read this new release a little early! If you love her other works, please check this one out! You won’t be disappointed.
Great book as always! Perfect twists that I didn't see coming. I will never not jump at the chance to read a book by Freida!
Wow wow wow!!!!! You guys go get your copy of this book now and read it!!!
Fredia McFadden has done it again! This is a fast pace, thriller that grab you from the beginning and doesn’t let go!! I love the characters in this book.. the wow factor in this book is jaw-dropping. I can’t even tell you how many times in my jaw dropped.!!
I was given the opportunity to read this arc in exchange for my honest opinion-
What just happened. What crack is in this book?! I did not expect THAT MANY twists.
Dawn and Natalie work together, they’re cubicles are right next to each other. Dawn is obsessed with turtles, always on time and a little bit strange, and Nat is the star sales women. When Dawn doesn’t show up for work one day, Nat is very panicked as that is not like Dawn. And the search for her and the chaos begins.
This story took so many different directions I almost couldn’t keep up. From the very first page to the last it was so fast paced and action packed. I did not expect ANY of the twists. At all.
Freida is a mastermind and I’m obsessed. I can’t get enough of her writing. It’s so addicting and thrilling.
She is by far one of my favourite psychological thriller writers. And this book is no different. Always 5 star reviews for Freida
I had the wonderful pleasure of getting to read this early via Netgalley (big thanks to Frieda McFadden, Netgalley, and Poisoned Pen Press). Frieda has done it again with another fantastic release. This is my favorite Frieda release of the year! If you haven't gotten it yet, I highly recommend giving it a read. Another thrilling, edge of your seat read. Thank you again to Frieda, Netgalley, and Poisoned Pen Press!
