The Coworker has you hooked as soon as you start reading it! As always fantastic writing from Freida, the writing and style flows so well that you can finish this book in a day.
This book is a good reminder that everyone has their own quirks and that goes around comes around. FANTASTIC READ!!
Freida McFadden has done it again!
We all know and love our girl Freida because of her writing style and JAW DROPPING TWISTS & of course she sang this one right out of the ballpark!
This is one of those books that have you sitting on the edge of your seat at 4:00 in the morning and CAN'T STOP READING! I read this book entirely in one sitting, it's that good!
I was so in with this and the drama.. OH MY GOD I LOVE WORKPLACE DRAMA! I loved how skeptical you have to be with each character and a massive chase of are you a good person??? are you secretly the villain here?
I really liked the email chains throughout as well, it really helped tie in the workplace vibe!
This is probably going to be one of my top books this year!
Now read this if you like:
- Workplace Drama
- An Unreliable Narrator
- Toxic Workplace
- Turtles (hehe)
- Murder
- Jaw Dropping Twists!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of The Coworker by Freida McFadden!
Coworker was just what I expected from Freida McFadden! Lots of twists and turns making you question yourself along the way. When you think you have it figured out, another twist comes along and makes you rethink things. The turtle getting was a but freaky to me, but it helped build Dawn’s character. I’m sure many people will enjoy reading The Coworker.
What is it about Freida McFadden?? Highly sought out author, tremendous followers and loads of five star reviews. I yet to see the extreme hype but will admit I one click everything she writes. So she definitely is doing something right. They are fun, quick reads that I will continue to read as long as she keeps writing them.
Wow, another amazing mind-blowing book by Freida McFadden devoured in just 48 hours. This storyline had me completely hooked within the first chapter, I dont think i have ever read such a tense psychological thriller ever. This author has the ability to get readers completely engrossed with momentum building throughout and then “BOOM” she blows you away with a gobsmacking twist which hits you like a slap in the face!! This story also has a serious subject matter which takes it to another level, adding an extra layer of engagement. I am already a fan of Freida McFadden and, as expected, her latest book did not disappoint.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read in exchange for my open and honest review. As always, my reviews will also be posted on Amazon, Goodreads and Waterstones and interaction on Facebook and instagram where possible.
Talk about twisted. I love this author she always has me guessing until the very end. This book was no different. I kept debating what was really happening the whole time. One thing I do know the parents in this book sucked. All of them.
Crap. I love love love FM. But this falls flat. It’s pretty slow and detailed so much I found myself skipping entire paragraphs. I also don’t like the way she portrayed Autism. Just eh.
Freida McFadden does it AGAIN!! 👏🏼 I completely devoured this book in just over a day! I just couldn’t put it down! (But aren’t ALL of Frieda’s book like that!?!) Freida McFadden’s McFans won’t be disappointed!
Special thanks to Net Galley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy! It was an honor to review this book! 🙏🏼
The Coworker is about Dawn Schiff, a socially awkward, strange and sometimes aggravating employee of the company Vixed. Dawn just wants to be friends with Natalie, her coworker, who’s cubicle is next to hers, but unfortunately finds herself getting on Natalie’s nerves rather than her good side. However, when Dawn fails to show up for work one day, Natalie knows something is very wrong for Dawn NEVER misses work or is even one minute late. She begins her own investigation and finds that something grave has definitely happened to Dawn. As Natalie tries to help find Dawn, all the evidence starts to point at Dawn herself….. Did she do it? Does she know more than she’s letting on? Did she hate Dawn enough to kill her?
As always Freida fills us with suspense, cliff hangers, and all the mind boggling twists! The Coworker is definitely a quick, grasping read that you won’t be able to put down!!
Well paced and full of detail. Claustrophobic and thrilling I felt like I was right inside of the book.
Thank you Netgalley for an awesome arc in exchange for my honest opinion
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy. The Coworker comes out 8/29/2023 and it is a must read!
As always, Freida blew me away with some of these twists. I actually guessed one of them but more in a “wouldn’t it be crazy if…” I never thought it would actually happen!
I truly thought Dawn was the weirdest person alive, and still do, but wow, there is more than meets the eye. She has an obsession and it’s not just with turtles!
I couldn’t put this book down and definitely recommend you read it too!
So, I love Freida and this book was entertaining. My thing is the whole book wasn’t as mature as I would of preferred. The main characters just spoke in such a young tone, kind of like they were still stuck in high school. Don’t get me wrong, it had the Freida twist and turns like she’s known for. I was still entertained.
The Coworker by Freida McFadden
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
First of all I want to say that I'm very thankful for receiving an early copy of this book.
I have read this book within 24 hours, which doesn't happen a lot so that is a good thing. I was flying though it, which I do a lot with Frieda's books so I'm glad this book had the same passing/feeling.
It was very good book, I had a good time reading it. Throughout this book you get to know Dawn through emails and through Natalie's POV, but because it's a she said this and Dawn said that, you can't really get a hold on what is real and what isn't or how things happened. Obviously you can't trust anyone in Thrillers and especially not in Frieda's. So I wanted to keep reading it because I wanted to know of what really happened and who killed Dawn.
A Quote from the book:
"And now Natalie and I share a secret. Maybe we can be friends after all. After all, there's nothing that binds two people like shared secret."

Firstly, thank you so much to Poisoned Press Pen & NetGalley for this ARC! This was a very quick and enjoyable read as all of Freida McFadden’s books are. I trusted no one and was suspicious of everyone! I did feel that there were things left unsaid with Seth’s wife Melinda. Like how Natalie felt that she said Melinda watching her in a crowd… was that real or was she seeing things? I wanted more from that aspect of the story! All of these characters were terrible people so I didn’t feel partial to any of them. The use of the word “turtle” in this book got to be a little cringy worthy. I felt that the turtle obsession by Dawn was a bit overkill. Overall, I felt like it was a fun thriller!
Natalie works as a top sales rep for the nutritional supplement company Vixed. Dawn is an accountant at the same company and has some eccentricities that Natalie finds very strange. Dawn must have all foods at her meals the same color, and she is obsessed with turtles of all kinds.
She wants very much to be friends with Natalie and the other coworkers but Natalie has nothing but contempt for Dawn. When Dawn sends Natalie a message that they need to discuss something important,
One day Dawn doesn't come to work and Natalie is out of the office. The next day she realizes that Dawn has not come to work at all but a turtle figurine appears on Natalie's desk. When she picks it up a strange dark substance rubs off on her hands that looks like...blood?
As Natalie tries to find out what has happened to Dawn, things begin to become more confusing. Everyone has secrets and some of them are dangerous. The suspense never lets up and the twists are exquisite. This book is fun to read and of course trying to figure out Freida's fiendish twist is deliciously maddening! I honestly didn't see this one coming. The book is a solid suspenseful read and I thoroughly enjoyed every page.
All opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the copy of The Coworker by Frieda McFadden. The last books I read by this author have been dependable, fast and easy reads. They aren’t anything mind blowing or deep, but they’re usually readable and not boring. This one really bogged down in the middle and the emails were annoying and not a great way to introduce Mia’s character. I wasn’t a fan of how Dawn was portrayed, and her personality was very stereotypical without giving the reason behind it.
I’m sure readers who love McFadden’s books will love this one because it has the usual surprising reveals and ‘twists’, but for me it didn’t really hit the mark!
Freida did it again! This book was so good! I couldn’t put it down. There was so many twists and turns. I didn’t see any of them coming. It was a great thriller!
Freida.... I don't know what you do.. but you always get me.
In The Coworker we meet Dawn, Natalie, Seth, and Caleb.. They all work together at Vixed. Dawn in is accounting, Natalie is in sales, Seth is the boss, and Caleb is the web designer.
From the very beginning this book hooked me. I had no idea what to expect and every time I thought I had it figured out.. I was wrong. I'm still sitting here mind blown at the ending. I never saw that coming, at all. It really makes you think about who your coworkers actually are... because do you ever really KNOW them?!
If you love Freida's other books and her style of writing, then you'll love The Coworker. She offers multiple POV that gives the characters the opportunity to make you reallllly think.
There's a multitude of layers to the twists and turns - which, again, adds just that much more suspense!
I’ve found a new Freida McFadden favorite! I read this in a weekend when I was supposed to be doing other things! She just sucks you in and doesn’t let go. Workplace themed which I don’t see enough of lately! If you want to truly be put into another world for a bit, I highly recommend Frieda’s books. Such easy reads and I mean that in the best way possible!
A shocking, twisty psychological thriller that will have your head spinning by the end!
Freida McFadden has done it again! The Coworker is another brilliant novel that, true to Freida's nature, will shock you repeatedly. Every time I thought I had this one figured out I was promptly proven wrong! This novel was fast-paced, easy to read and kept my mental "gears" turning trying to connect all the dots. I quite literally could not put this book down and finished the entire thing in less than 24 hours. Freida's writing never disappoints!
Freida McFadden is a psychological genius. The Coworker is by far my favorite read of the year. A thriller, suspense with a plot twist at every turn, this book had me on the edge of my seat, and second guessing myself until the last page. Once I started the book I couldn’t stop, I never wanted to put it down and I HAD to know what happened next.
The characters in this book, I couldn’t picture any other way. The storyline was eerie and enticing and each time I thought I knew what was going to happen, I turned the page and I was so wrong.
This book will have your head spinning in the best way, and has convinced me to read everything and anything Freida has ever written.
