Blurb:
Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back. Dawn Schiff is strange. At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m. So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell―beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running―is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything... It turns out Dawn wasn't just an awkward outsider―she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who's the real victim? But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff. Enough to kill.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own!
This title releases on 8.29.23!
Was I a productive member of society today? Nope. Did I abandon all my responsibilities to read The Coworker? Yes.
I received an advanced copy through NetGalley and Frieda has done it again. It was a quick, fast paced, binge worthy book. I thought I’d FINALLY figured out the twists in this book but of course Frieda pulled some curve balls my way. 4.7/5 ⭐️
Thank you to Netgalley, the wonderful author Freida McFadden and the publisher for the advance copy to read.
I'm a huge fan of Freida McFadden's writing and have binged all her previous books too.
This book follows Natalie who is worried about her co-worker Dawn who hasn't shown up for work. It's a psychological page turner that will have you reading it super fast to work out what happens.
The style is in two POVs from Natalie and Dawn. Lots of Dawn's perspective is told through emails sent to her best friend. It makes for a great dynamic to the plot whilst trying to figure out what's happened.
As a standard for a Freida McFadden book there are clever twists that you never see coming.
A great, twisty book that you will eat up!
ARC review: I liked the style this book was written in, and how it uniquely viewed the world through one character’s eyes by email. There were great twists and turns. I thought I had the book figured out but part two proved me wrong. Freida does such an excellent job of keeping you on your toes. Everyone should read when this releases on the 29th!
Great read! The characters are relatable, story flows well, and it keeps you guessing.
Definitely recommend!
Who works in an office?
Do you always get along with your coworkers? Ever feel like k*lling someone?
Dawn is one of the coworkers, always on time, the socially awkward outsider who struggles with small talk but loves to talk about turtles.
Natalie sits next to Dawn. Natalie is the popular, bubbly, top sales rep who everyone loves.
When one of the coworkers doesn't come in to work it sparks the mystery that you know is going to trigger all the drama and tension.
A chunk of the story is told through email exchanges, it's got a slightly different flow to most of Freida's books...Then when the twists come it is pretty special.
Freida weaves an intricate web, this book isn't a race to the finish. Take a moment to breathe it in and appreciate the setup.
I raced to the finish the first time I read it, then listened to the audiobook, and I'm happy to admit I had a much better appreciation second time around. The setup, plotting and characterisation is spot on and well worth revisiting.
Another must read for Freida fans, sure to go straight to #1 and be one of Autumn's most talked about books.
Thank to Netgalley, Poisoned Pen Press and Freida McFadden.
Well played McFadden, well played. You can’t rush perfection, so I am seeing how this has taken “50” years to publish. This book will have you second guessing yourself, questioning wait did that happen? How? Who? What?! I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. I’d get into more detail but I’d end up telling you the whole story…My husband hates asking me about certain things because I’ll give you every possible detail and then it’s like great, you’ve left nothing to imagine hahaha. The things are making you go hmmmm??? You will not be disappointed….
I thoroughly enjoyed “The Coworker”. I won’t go into the book’s description because you can read that for yourself.
I like the juxtaposition between the two main female characters, Dawn and Natalie. McFadden is an expert at developing strong female characters that either don’t trust anybody or they trust too much. Either way, trouble looms for both types. . And there’s plenty of trouble for Dawn and Natalie! I did figure out one of the twists but I was not disappointed! It’s always fun to be a good detective lol
I’ve read a lot of psychological thrillers that end with a PSA and you’re let down. McFadden deftly weaves a PSA into “The Coworker” and it blends perfectly with the thrills of the book. No letdowns here!
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, NetGalley snd Freida for this advanced copy.
To say I was thrilled when I got the approval email for this book, is a huge understatement. I love Freida.
This story follows Dawn and Natalie. Dawn mysteriously comes up "dead" and all the evidence is pointing towards Natalie as the killer.
I finished this book in a total of 4 hours, two 2 hour sittings! I just kept clicking page after page desiring so badly to know if I was right about the events taking place.
I'm very good at guessing the ending and outcomes of books, however with this one I couldn't figure out the whole picture.
Freida is a phenomenal writer and person.

I read The Housemaid last month for my book club so I was SO excited to get to read an early copy of The Coworker.
I could not put this book down. Freida’s writing keeps you intrigued and wanting to read more. I don’t read a lot of thriller books so her books are perfect for me and I never fully predict the twists that happen! The length was perfect and it wasn’t too scary for me (I can’t read anything too scary or I won’t sleep)
If you’re looking for you’re next thriller to read, add this to your list! Pub date is Aug 29th. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the early copy.
Natalie and Dawn are co-workers at a nutritional supplement company and share neighboring cubicles. When Dawn doesn't show up for work one morning, Natalie goes on a mission to find out where she is and discovers a disturbing scene at Dawn's home. As the story unfolds in alternating perspectives between Dawn, Natalie, and a series of emails Dawn writes to her friend the reader discovers that things aren't always what they seem. McFadden takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride as the truth about both Dawn and Natalie come out as well as some other key players in the office drama. This is a story about vengeance, greed, and the lengths people will go to keep their secrets hidden.
I have been anxiously waiting for newest McFadden thriller to come out and "The Coworker" did not disappoint! In true Frieda McFadden fashion this book had the signature twist at the end you don't see coming and a very engaging plot with memorable, well developed characters. As a McFadden fan, I follow her on social media and loved to see the turtle figurine that always found itself in various shenanigans around her house. She is not only a talented author, but very relatable and imaginative. This book was enjoyable, I did not predict the ending, and it left me with both love and hate for Natalie and Dawn as both are very dangerous women. I loved how the book ended and thoroughly enjoyed this story.
I feel so lucky to have been given an ARC for this book as I was impatiently waiting for its release next Tuesday! Freida couldn’t wrote a bad book if she tried. This was twisty and dark. I breezed though it in about 4 hours because the story just flowed so nicely. I loved the break up in format with the emails added in throughout the narrative. Super intriguing right from the beginning to the end. Highly recommend Freidas latest work!
First of all thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this prior to its release date. I am a huge Freida fan! I found this one to be fast paced and of course it had twists! It hit on some deep themes and kept my attention. As always, I love Freida’s books!
Binge worthy read! Each time Frieda has a new book out I just know to block out the time as once I start I will not want to put the book down. This one was so intense and I loved it!
Natalie is the number one sales person but she not kind to her co-worker Dawn. Dawn loves turtles and tries to be friends with Natalie but nothing works. Then one day Dawn doesn't show up for work or call in. Natalie goes to her house to check on her only to discover a crime scene.
All the little stories about turtles made me laugh and I liked how they just kept messing with Natalie. The ending was just brillant. Well, done Freida.
I love Freidas books! She keeps me on my toes at all times and she throws twists your way that you’ll never see coming. I really like the cat and mouse trope and she did an excellent job with it! I couldn’t stop guessing who is good and who is bad, I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone! Awesome thriller by the queen!
Every office community is a wealth of secrets and lies, and the Vixed office, where Natalie and Dawn work is no exception. In the new thriller from New York Times bestselling author, Freida McFadden, Natalie Farrell becomes concerned when her always punctual coworker, Dawn Schiff, fails to appear at work one day. Dawn is nothing if not predictable, and Natalie knows something must be wrong. Unable to convince anyone else at work that Dawn might be in danger, Natalie sets out to look for Dawn herself. What could possibly go wrong?
Freida McFadden has outdone herself with this book. The Coworker will not only take you on a mind blowing journey, but will have you thinking about much deeper topics as well. Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, NetGalley, and as always, Freida McFadden, for allowing me to have an early copy of this stellar book.
The Coworker publishes Tuesday, August 29. It is a must read for any thriller lover! Preorder it now or go get it on Tuesday!
Muwahahahaha! Gosh darn it, Freida McFadden has done it again! She is a master a writing characters you love to hate and hate that you love. The Coworker is a fast-paced wild ride that keeps you guessing who is the bully and who is the prey the entire time. Is it the hare or the tortoise you should fear most? When tortoise and hare play at cat and mouse, there can only be one winner... the reader of course!
Thank you to #NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Yet another amazing book by Freida McFadden. I loved all the twists. This one made me question my time working from a cubicle and how well you really know anyone. And as also, when I thought it was wrapped up the epilogue blew me away.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy.
3.5/5
One thing I know when I pick up one of the authors books is that I’m going to get a story that is pure entertainment and just a blast to read. Her books are the very definition of popcorn thrillers and beg to be read in just a couple of sittings and that’s exactly what I did with this one. Fairly early on I knew where this one was probably going and I was right for the most part. The big twist that happened when it switched to part two was predictable for me but there were some smaller, but still fun twists that I didn’t guess that helped make this a pretty solid read for me. If you’re looking for a juicy book that is addictive this is it, I was definitely never bored despite having aspects figured out and I wanted brain candy when I started it and no one does that better than this author.
In classic Freida fashion, this book is packed with despicable and strange women. We’ve got somewhat unreliable narrators, dual POV, dual timeline, and a murder. I love how Frieda writes women. They are always complex and twisty characters and this book is no exception.
What’s with the turtles?!? My god that was so creepy and bizarre.
A couple of the twists I felt some readers may anticipate but that did not take away from the plot. I generally go into a Freida book expecting a whammy at the very end, but the twists started a little earlier in this one and I didn’t have the huge whopper feeling at the end.
This was an enjoyable, cringey thriller. It’s bingeworthy and fast paced and a typical Freida story.
Thank you to netgalley, poisoned pen and Freida for a copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
