Freida McFadden has done it again! Another fantastic book from her. There’s a reason she’s my favourite author her books are always a hit! I read this in less than 5 hours I literally could not put it down!!! Fast paced and twisty had me hooked from the beginning!
Thank you so much to the publisher (Poisoned Pen Press) and NetGalley for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review!
I always look forward to reading a Freida McFadden novel, because I know to expect that trademark twist, or in this case, twists. I was hooked with the plot line and must admit that I could never have guessed the outcome. The shift in both main characters from chapter to chapter helps to build the suspense and anticipation as the plot continues to unravel.
Binge-worthy. Fast Paced. Entertaining. Those are just a few words I could use to describe the latest from McFadden. I have read quite a few from her, and have been highly satisfied every time. While it did start a little slowly compared to other Freida works, it didn’t disappoint at all. The whole time she had me fooled, thinking this book was about exposing Natalie. No no no. I should have known better. Not only did it keep my guessing, I was totally BLOWN AWAY by the ending. Freida McFadden is one author I continue to suggest over and over again.
This was another fantastic edition from Freida McFadden! Admittedly, not my favorite of her books, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great story with plenty of twists and turns. Don’t be mean to the weird person in the office!
This is the second book that I've read by Freida McFadden, and it did not disappoint! So many twists and turns! I thought I had it all figured out, and just at the right moment, I get proven wrong.
This book took me out of a reading slump, and I'm so glad I read it. In time for publication, and I'm already telling everyone I know about this book!
Freida McFadden does it yet again! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to piece together all of the clues. Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist is thrown at you. I love how easy Freida makes her books to read and understand. The Coworker is a classic office drama filled book with a murder mystery spin to it. It's a simple who done it type of book.
The queen of psychological thrillers, Freida McFadden, returns following Ward D and her popular Housemaid series with another knockout, THE COWORKER: A twisty game of cat-and-mouse game involving co-workers (two women), office bullying, a past crime, and a love of turtles.
With unreliable narrators, this one will keep you laughing and guessing until the satisfying conclusion. Two women. An office of secrets. A terrible crime. Loads of dark humor, which I adore!
Natalie and Dawn work at a company, Vixed, that sells nutritional supplements. Meet the two women who are opposites. Their cubicles are next to one another.
Dawn Schiff is an accountant. Some think she is strange, a weirdo. Shy, thorough, and precise. She wears shapeless clothes and is nerd-like. She is always at her desk at 8:45 am sharp—never late and never misses an appointment.
She also LOVES (obsessed) with turtles. She has a collection at home and the office—lots of turtle figurines on her desk. Dawn's personality is like a turtle: shy, prefers to stay in their environment, and does not want to be played with. When faced with any threat, their first reaction isn't to attack but to retract into their shells and hide.
We also get email correspondence from Dawn to Mia (her friend) about what is happening at work. Is Natalie bullying Dawn or trying to harm her?
Natalie Farrell is a sales rep 30, pretty, Barbie-like, the golden girl, popular and top in sales. She wears stylish clothes, is blonde, and wears bright red heels— Louboutin's.
She also does podcast interviews and facilitates an annual race to raise money for a foundation researching cerebral palsy in Amelia's honor (past friend). Kim is her best friend at work.
The boss is Seth Hoffman. A slimy guy (reminds me of Vinny in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series). Natalie gets her way with her boss. He is not very nice to Dawn.
Dawn tries to befriend Natalie. There is also a guy at work, Caleb McCullough, who handles the website & website sales. A hard worker, whiz at computers, funny. He and Natalie have been dating for a few months.
Dawn has been trying to get a meeting to go over things of concern with her boss, Seth. Also, she wants a meeting with Natalie. She is getting pushback.
One morning, Dawn does not come in at her usual time. Her phone is ringing, and Natalie picks up. Someone is saying, "Help me."
Natalie is concerned she does not show up for work and goes by her house. The door is unlocked, and she is shocked by what she sees. What happened to Dawn? Is Natalie capable of violence? From the POV of Natalie and Dawn, who do you believe?
Secrets, obsession, and vengeance converge in this multi-layered psychological suspense thriller turned deadly whodunit game of cat-and-mouse—with a jaw-dropping twist.
Highly entertaining! THE COWORKER is an unputdownable, clever psychological thriller with loads of twists. Dawn is a hoot of a character and much brighter than the office staff knows. Turtles have never been so much FUN!
Freida always knows how to bring on the drama and hidden secrets. The characterization is excellent, and I enjoyed the games where nothing or no one is as they appear.

After a few books that I didn't particularly love, I was very happy to read "The Coworker" by Freida McFadden.
While this book is a typical, fast-paced thriller, McFadden manages to actually dig deep into her characters and their flaws, motivations, and personalities. The character development is more pronounced than most other psychological thrillers I typically read.
I saw the twist coming, but I didn't mind that at all, because you never really know how it's going to come about or how the characters will react. I was not disappointed!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a great thriller. Couldn’t put it down. Very fast paced story - perfect for binge read. The characters were unique and interesting. Lots of twist and turns and loved the ending. This author never disappoints!!
Freida has done it again! The first half of the book was a little hard for me to get sucked into. But once the twist hit, I couldn't put it down.
Freida McFadden has seriously become a household name to mystery/thriller readers in the last year and her upcoming novel, THE COWORKER, will continue to cement her in this genre. The story focuses on two women working at a vitamin supplemnt company—Natalie, a beautiful and charismatic woman who works in sales—and Dawn, a reserved and socially awkward woman who works in accounting. The company they work for, Vixed, has an office filled with secrets, but when Dawn disappears at work one morning, the secrets begin to pour out. Natalie feels personally connected to Dawn's disappearance after receiving an anonymous call that left her speechless. As Natalie tries to uncover what happened, she realizes that someone is out to get Dawn and she will need to watch her back.
Ok this book was a lot of fun and has the bingeworthy juicy storytelling that you've come to love with Freida McFadden, but I knew almost immediately what was going to happen. This book is pretty straightforward and I was able to quickly determine what was happening. That being said, THE COWORKER is still a lot of fun to read. Even though I am disappointed that I knew what was going on, I read this book in one sitting! Talk about fun! Freida McFadden's going to continue to be a popular author for mystery/thriller fans and THE COWORKER will surely entertain.
This was a fast paced, fun and engaging read. Freida McFadden is definitely the queen of twists, and this one did not disappoint! While some other books of McFadden's were less predictable (e.g., The Housemaid, Never Lie) this book did not contain a huge twist, however it kept swinging ...up to the very end! Check your trigger warnings as this book does cover some sensitive issues. Thriller fans, enjoy the ride!
Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this eARC. I found this book very enjoyable. I have come to not trust anyone and expect everything in Freida’s books. Some did not like all the information about turtles but I found it to be fairly accurate for some people with a hyper-fixation on a topic. I don’t want to say Dawn has ASD because that is never stated. As always things are not always what they seem. I will continue to enjoy Freida’s entertaining, easy reading thrillers full of twists.
WOW……Frieda does it again! Just when you think you have it figured out…..bam, another twist happens!!! The Coworker is one of my top 5 favorites by Freida! If you want to get sleep don’t start a Frieda book! Can’t wait till she comes out with another! Thank you Freida!
The Coworker ARC review
Thank you, @netgalley, for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review. ☺️
What I liked about the book is how we can see the perspective of a person from the spectrum. When I first read about how Dawn is so into turtles, it reminded me of the Korean Drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo. In that drama, the main character is also from the spectrum, and she LOVES whales! I didn’t mind reading all of this turtle information because I love hearing people with ASD share their thoughts openly. Especially because sometimes it may be hard for them to do so. I genuinely appreciated Freida’s way of showing the reality of someone living on the spectrum. We should be more knowledgeable and open about these issues/topics.
I was immersed throughout the story, but I feel like there was a lack of character development throughout the book. Like I said in the beginning, I appreciate Freida’s way of showing people her knowledge about the autism spectrum disorder. However, some people may think that she is trying to make fun of the people living with ASD.
Overall, it was an easy and great book! This will be available on August 29, 2023! 😊
I'm a HUGE Freida McFan but honestly I was a little underwhelmed and disappointed with this one. I didn't like any of the characters, and I figured out almost everything early on. The turtle theme was a little much and got annoying after a while. Maybe I read too many thrillers, but this didn't stand out as one I will remember. That being said, it was an easy and enjoyable read and I will continue to be a McFan for life!
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this eARC.
THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! I had a really hard time putting it down. In true Freida fashion, it was an emotional roller coaster. It was fast-paced and thrilling. Kept me guessing as soon as I thought I had the twists figured out another curveball was thrown. Very well done! 10/10 recommend to anyone who loves a good thrill.
The plot twists kept on coming and none of my predictions came true. A really great, unique read and an excellent introduction to McFadden's work. I literally could not put this book down!
A good book. Review to come.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
3.5 stars
I think her other books are much better than this. Sorry Freida but this one is very predictable and little to no plot twist at all. Thank you netgalley for the ARC of this book.
