Wow! Didn't see that coming! No surprise there though, as I can never seem to figure out the ending - and I'm glad I can't, because I love feeling blown away!
Natalie and Dawn are coworkers, and one day Dawn doesn't show up to work. Natalie can set her watch by Dawn's schedule. Natalie starts to worry when she answers a phone call from Dawn's phone.
Just what happened to Dawn? Natalie is determined to find out.
Follow the chase and maybe you'll find out what happens.
I love Freida McFadden's books! I couldn't put this one down and read it in an afternoon. If you're looking for a good thriller, this is the book for you. Couldn't give it five stars just because it was pretty predictable, but I enjoyed it regardless!
Everybody is crazy.
That’s the message of this book. This book had my jaw dropped multiple times. Just when I think I knew what would happen I was proved wrong. Freida McFadden just has a way of writing that keeps you engaged through the whole book.
This story was so wild! I did find Part 1 to be a bit repetitive and predictable but I loved Part 2 and thought that Freida really turned the whole story upside down. Some of the turtle stuff was a little overdone, but I loved the quirkiness of Dawn. The twists in the end really wrapped up everything for me really well!
Having read all of Freida’s books to date, I knew I was in for a treat when I picked up The Coworker and it didn’t disappoint! I loved the similar styling to The Housemaid, with 2 parts that draw you in and then drop a bombshell to tilt your whole perspective.
This is in my top 5 Freida reads, if you love thrillers with short chapters, great twists and an addictive storyline, I’d recommend this book!
I couldn't put this one down! There were multiple twists that weren't necessarily the most shocking I've ever read but were all unexpected. Freida McFadden definitely knows how to whip up a fun mystery thriller that surprises you all the way until the very end!
Wow!! This books was absolutely amazing. I loved the development of the characters and all the twists. I thought I had it figured out but of course I was wrong. I read the end with my mouth hanging open. One of my favorites I’ve read of hers so far!
Mcfadden is finally back after some let-downs. This was a fast-paced thrillers for sure. I liked the characters, which is great after being so dissatisfied with the characters in never lie and ward d. Even if the main character had her flaws, I felt they were explained better and there was some character development (at least a bit). I must admit I saw the twist coming, but was still curious about how it all would play out, so it was a breeze reading. In the afterword McFadden writes that she’s worked on this book for 20 (!) years and that shows as I couldn’t find no obvious plot holes, and it was told convincingly. Maybe there was a bit too much spoon-feeding when it came to Dawn who obviously was on the spectrum, but from what I read it wasn’t too stereotypical, and I wasn’t annoyed by the way McFadden described her personality. There was actually a lovely moment in the end and I found myself tearing up. How often does that happen in your standard psychological thriller?
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc
Freida McFadden never disappoints! What a gripping, twisty tale she tells.
The coworker follows Natalie, a popular, successful salelady who has it all: beauty looks and success. Natalie has a cubical neighbour at work named Dawn, that is described as a bit odd and is very exact in her routines and likes. When Dawn fails to show up for work, Natalie becomes concerned and finds Dawn missing. The twisty tales that ensue and nothing less than suspensful and unpredictable. I changed my thoughts and predi tions multiple times while readind and there always was someturns i didnt see coming.
The perspective of the book was presenting Natalie in the present while we got to know Dawn in a series of emails and communications. I really liked the emails. It was insightful into getting to know Dawn and just generally it was an interesting way to get to know the inner thoughts of a character.
Highly recommend The Co-Worker for your next suspensful, twisty read.
Thank you Freida McFadden, Poisoned Pen Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in return for a honest review.
Good book. Short chapters. A few twists but none was shocking. An easy read. A story of revenge and consequences of bullying.
This was my first Frieda McFadden and I really enjoyed it! I kept thinking I had I figured out and was soon proven wrong. So many twists! I haven’t read much as far as the unreliable narrator trope but this made me realize that it’s definitely something I’m interested in. This one was such a fun and wild ride!
I want to start off by saying thank you Netgalley for the ARC. I am a huge Freida fan, and this book did not disappoint. I devoured it, and it may be my favorite book yet by Freida! 5/5 stars for me.
Freida McFadden has done it again! I am always so captivated by how she writes and creates her characters. You will constantly going back and forth wondering who to route for. This book had excellent plot twist and crazy turn. It’s told in duel POV and has some possible trigger warnings.
I must say I am definitely a Freida Readah and I haven’t read one of her books that I didn’t love. The Coworker was no different. The twists and unpredictable outcomes in this story was jaw dropping. Right when I thought I had it all figured out then Part 2 begins and I was dead wrong. 5 stars Freida!
Thank you #NetGalley and #PoisonedPenPress for allowing me to read this ARC!
Thank you so much to Frieda McFadden, Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for this ARC read!
Once again Frieda blows my mind! I made the mistake of starting this at 9:30pm and didn’t put it down until hours later. I even dreamed about the storyline! I finished this in less than 24 hours and I regret nothing!
We are given the story of Dawn and Natalie, two coworkers with a wicked story that has so many twists I couldn’t figure out which direction I was facing! It was extremely fast paced and I found myself deeply involved until the final page!
Another winner by Freida! Thanks so much to her and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. This time, Dawn’s coworker realizes she is missing after she doesn’t show up to work. Dawn is always punctual, turtle obsessed, a little strange, and basically the opposite of her coworker, Natalie. Whatever you think happened to Dawn is wrong. I loved the twists and turns in the book. It is your classic Freida Mcfadden read. I read this in 2 days and if I could stay up later it would have been one! I was instantly enthralled with finding out what happened to “The Coworker”
I will start by saying: I am a huge Freida McFadden fan. Some of her books I love more than others but her writing style and the twists she incorporates into her books always keep me coming back for more.
This one was no different. Although slightly different, style wise, from a lot of her other books, I could not put this one down.
My favorite part of her books are the fact that I never really can guess what is going to happen. Any time I think I have it figured out, she throws a twist I wasn’t expecting and The Co-worker is no different. The twists keep coming even up until the epilogue.
I’m sure a lot of people can relate in some way to the at least one of the characters in this story. Definitely a fast pace fun read.
As a Freida super fan, I am always looking forward to reading her new books and I am so thankful to have received an ARC for The Coworker. Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me with the ARC!
When I say I devoured this book, it is an understatement! All of Freida’s books are super quick and fast paced thrillers that you won’t be able to put down and The Coworker is one of her best! In true Freida fashion, the plot is very seemingly predictable and you will have yourself thinking you know what is coming but rest assured, you won’t see this twist coming!
The style of this book is a little different than her other books as it shows some dialogue through emails and texts. I do have to say that I found Dawn slightly annoying at times, but I did find myself really loving her by the end of the book! I could have done without some of the turtle talk but that didn’t deter me from loving the book. I do think it was important to really helping us understand Dawn and what she was like. There were also parts of the book where I really disliked Natalie but found myself rooting for her for the most part. I really enjoyed the little bit of romance that we got from Seth and Caleb as well.
I loved that this book portrayed bullying in the workplace as well as touching on bullying in high school. It shows the lifelong consequences of bullying and how it can impact so many people.
You will find yourself disliking, loving, suspecting, and feeling bad for every character in this book throughout your reading journey! Freida has done it again and I would definitely recommend The Coworker to anyone who loves a good fast paced thriller. PS. Please check your trigger warnings- suicide, si, self-harm, murder, bullying, emotional abuse, mental illness, sibling death.
Another twisty book by Freida. My favorite way to go into reading her books, is blind. For the best experience.
This dual POV story is between Natalie, the star sales associate, and Dawn, the nerdy outcast accountant. The story follows Natalie in present day and Dawn via emails.
As always, Frieda has you wrapped around her finger wondering who is telling the truth, what is lies, and who is crazy, who did what.
Title: the Coworker
Author: Frieda McFadden
Publisher: Poisoned Pen Press
Publication Date: August 29, 2023
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dawn Schiff is an accountant at Vixxed. She is quiet, awkward, strange and extremely punctual. So when Dawn fails to show up on time at work, her beautiful coworker, Natalie, finds it unusual. Then an anonymous phone call is received that sends Natalie's life into a tailspin.
Frieda McFadden is a master at her craft! The Coworker sucks you into the story where you love to hate the characters and can't decide who to root for. Then once you do, your jaw is left on the floor. I always love how Frieda's books flow so easily and there are no fluff or frillls, just an excellent story. This is one of my favorite books by Frieda, which I keep finding myself saying about every one of her books, but it can't be helped! Don't miss this latest hit! Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to review this ARC.
