Freida's has once again done it with a must-read for fans of her psychological thrillers. Dawn Schiff is a turtle loving, awkward accountant with autism who works in an office filled with secrets. When she doesn’t show up for work, it sets off alarms as she is always on a specific schedule. From there it is Freida’s twists and turns that make for a fun, cat-and-mouse game in a completely toxic workplace with a bunch of unlikeable characters who you want to know more about. Would highly recommend.
The Coworker is a fast-paced thriller by Freida McFadden. Once you start reading, you are not going to want to put it down. There are lots of twists that will keep you guessing. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick, thrilling read. Should I be concerned that I have large turtle collection like one of the female main characters? IYKYK ;) Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC.
Natalie’s coworker Dawn is just plain strange. Nothing wrong with that, but damn is she weird. Obsessed with turtles, and lives her day down to the second. So when it is 8:45 on the dot and Dawn isn’t at her desk, Natalie gets worried. When she goes to her house to check on her to find a massive amount of blood, Natalie calls the police but somehow ends up at the top of their suspect list.
So I have come to learn one important thing about Freida’s characters. You can’t trust a single one of them. Seriously, don’t trust anyone. As always, this book was a pick up and read all the way through. McFadden writes the most binge-able books, and if you need something to break you out of a slump, look no further than any of her reads! I loved this book and how everything came together and kept the twists coming. Now to wait for what she writes next!
This book kept me guessing - I kept thinking that it was predictable and then there would be a twist I didn't see coming! I waffled on my rating of this book throughout the time I was reading it, going from 3 to 4 to 5 stars and back to 4. I also most ended it with a 3 star review until the very last twist! I love Freida McFadden's books and I could picture myself in this story the whole time since I come from a corporate or business background. I highly recommend all Freida McFadden's books.
I was incredibly lucky to receive an ARC of this book! Freida McFadden has such a gift when it comes to writing, and creating plot twists at the end of each novel. This book definitely didn't disappoint! It had a different feel from some of her other books. The characters (Dawn in particular) were very interesting the way they were portrayed. Dawn was rather odd, but her character found a way to surprise you. I enjoyed the work place setting, it was also a different yet enjoyable vibe for a Freida book. I would definitely recommend this book to any thriller lover, who is a fan of big twists! Another 5 star read for me!
I’m a huge fan of all Freida McFadden books! And this one is right up there with my favorite! I was hooked right from the beginning. 5 stars across the board.
Description: how well do you really know your coworkers? Dawn is known to be awkward and strange at the office but when one day she doesn’t show up at work, her beautiful coworker Natalie finds this unusual and feels the need to investigate. However, her interest in Dawn’s absence ends up getting her into a dangerous game of cat and mouse and caught in the messy web of secrets that Dawn holds.
my thoughts:
Another easy Freida book that I devoured! Thank you @netgalley for the ARC! I knew I’d love this because a) all Freida books are so easy to read and b) the description hooked me right away. I was instantly absorbed as soon as I picked the book up and loved how the twist unfolded. Was it jaw dropping and mind blowing like some of her other books I loved? No. Yet, it was still an easy and hard to put down thriller!
One of my favourite Freida McFadden books!!
Great disability & mental health representation
This made me so emotional at the same time it was realistic in a sense.
So worth the wait!
Let me start by saying that I am a huge Freida McFadden fan. I have read all but one of her thriller novels now. The Coworker was a fun, fast paced read that I struggled to put down. It had some really good twists that caught me completely off guard. I highly recommend reading this book, as well as all her others. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this ARC!
A toxic workplace within a corporate organization that allows bullying to pervade their small little cubicles is a psychological nightmare.
"Secrets bind people together..."
With unlovable characters all the way to the finish and turtles all the way down, my head is spinning...for real! This author is one of my faves, however a character like Dawn who is obsessed with turtles got under my skin. As an accountant, she was tremendously obnoxious when she crawled under everyone else's skin, and she is now missing. Natalie's bully is arrested after being presumed dead by evidence in her home.
When Natalie is jailed for her murder, the narrative thickens and the story takes unexpected turns. Excellent work! You created a mystery around turtles and e-mails that left an incriminating path, but that ending!!!!

McFadden does it again. This fast-paced thriller has a twists and turns to keep you guessing til the end.
Natalie is the gorgeous, hardworking, top sales person for a supplement company. New-hire Dawn is the nerdy math-minded, turtle-obsessed accountant. Natalie befriends Dawn and does her best to tolerant all her idiosyncrasies.
Then one day, the always punctual Dawn doesn't show up for work.. When half a day has gone by and she hasn't answered her phone and no one has heard from her, Vanessa feels she should go over to dawn's house and check on her. The discovery she makes inside the house has the cops asking Natalie a ton of questions. Siddlenlu, she becomes #1 on suspect list..

This is probably the closest I got to figure out Freidas twist! Well written book. I don't know who I dislike more in this book Caleb, nat, or Dawn. Well written and kept me entertained until the end. Bravo!
Like every other Freida McFadden book I've read, I couldn't put it down! This was such an entertaining, fast- paced read.
As the characters develop you discover more and more secrets and connections. I couldn't put it down!
Thank you to netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC!
This comes out August 29 and you need to check it out!
I really really enjoyed this book up until the last page. It’s one of those where you can put it down until you figure everything out. And anything you guess throughout the book is wrong the twists are great and will have you guessing the entire time ! Loved it
The coworker
This book blew my mind. I don’t normally read mystery books like ever but I needed a change of pace and this book brought me out of my slump. I don’t even know how to review this book without spoiling it. So I’m going to just say, if you think you know what’s happening, you don’t!
Another amazing book by Freida! I was very happy to be chosen to read an ARC of Freida’s new book!
Just think about how much time you spend with your coworkers. You see them every day at work. You socialize with them, eat with them, solve problems with them. But do you really know them? Do you know what kind of people they are? Do you know what they are capable of? Are you sure?
This book has the “weird coworker”, the popular coworker who is always over-exceeding but no one really knows how, and the not so trustworthy boss. When the “weird one” goes missing, everyone starts speculating what really happened to her. Was it the crooked boss or the overachiever? Was it someone else? Who had a motive?
But not everything is what it seems in this book - which is true of all Freida’s books. This book will have you guessing until the end. And even after you find out what is really going on, Freida adds some more surprises at the end.
What are your co-workers capable of?
My first ever ARC! I was so elated to get to read The Coworker pre-release, and it did not disappoint!
I have fully enjoyed each of Frieda’s books that I have read, and I am convinced that she only gets better with time.
The Coworker was a fun ride from beginning to end. In it, Freida strikes a perfect balance of memorable, quirky characters, mystery that keeps you guessing, a fast-paced storyline, and twists that leave you reeling.
Early on, I thought I had it figured out, but knew it was too easy so I just sat back and let Freida surprise me!
The ending had me gasping as each event unfolded!
Though in keeping with Freida’s excellent writing style and page-turning pace, the ending of The Coworker felt different to me from her other books. I was left with the impression that she is simply a master of her craft.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advance copy. I can’t wait for release day on August 29!
I enjoyed The Coworker and finished it in about a day. Dawn and her turtles will stick with me for a long time. I enjoy the author's sense of humor and will continue to pick up her books as they come out. She also has an uncanny ability to make you really hate a character and deliver a great twist.
It's always exciting to get approved for an ARC, especially for one of my favorite authors. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this advance copy.
Another winner by Frieda McFadden. This thriller had some really good twists. The writing flowed and I was hooked from the first page. An unreliable narrator, sympathetic characters, and some really good turns make this a great end of the summer beach read!
Freida does it again!
Another fast-paced suspenseful thriller that kept the pages turning. The book kept me guessing the entire time and the twists were impossible to guess! Highly recommend!
