Another incredible book. I always think I know what is going to happen. Turtles are my favorite and I chuckled a few times at how turtle obsessed Dawn was. The twists and turns make you wonder what is going to happen each page. The characters involved were all unexpected.
Another well-paced, well-written, quick and thrilling read by an accomplished author!
McFadden examines workplace toxicity and shows that it’s not just a bad day or two at work, it’s repeated uncomfortability that causes undue stress.
It’s not the stress that her sheets and pillowcase are two completely different colours that causes Dawn Schiff, the accountant for the Dorchester branch of Vixed, to have a bad day. Nor is it that some forbidden colour has snuck into her monochromatic meals. Dawn is simply uncomfortable in a workplace that is anything but inclusive.
She can tell her co-workers are simply pretending to be nice. They don’t really want to hear about her turtle obsession. So, she vows to take action.
Don’t let McFadden fool you! Things aren’t as they seem.
1) Enjoy the ride…and learn a fact, or two, or three, … about turtles.
2) Read time cues in chapter titles
3) Don’t get comfortable…it’s not that predictable.
Thanks for the chance to read this great thriller with a subtle message! I can't wait to see what's next for McFadden.
I was gifted this copy by Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Freida McFadden has done it again. The use of dual POV + dual timelines makes the story that much more interesting. The entire time, I had no idea who to believe, which narrator (if not both) was lying, why they were lying, and what truly happened. I loved that there were several twists rather than just one, and the little twist at the very end was just the cherry on top! I cannot recommend The Coworker enough.
"The Coworker" is the first book I have ever read by Freida McFadden. The synopsis sounded very interesting, and I knew instantly that I would enjoy it.
The book is well written, with several well constructed characters. Some of the plot-twists you could see them coming, although most of them took me by surprise.
The first half of the book is great, little by little we see that in Vixen's office, there are many secrets under the surface. For me this beginning is the best part of the book.
The end was disappointing for me, because I think it leaves something very important unfinished. Despite that, I enjoyed the reading.
I literally finished this book in one sitting and I stayed up all night! Dawn was such a great, complex character. I loved reading about her and her turtles. The twists got me good and left me with goosebumps. This might be my favorite Freida book!
Wow wow wow. I had heard great things about Freida and this was my first of her books. I couldn’t put the book down.
The Coworker tells the tale of Dawn, a strange woman seemingly with no friends who doesn’t turn up for work one day. One of Dawn’s coworkers suspects foul play but as she looks into the situation, a whole new set of problems unravel.
The switching between characters is so well done and several twists and turns mean you’re not sure of an outcome right until the end of the story. This book flowed beautifully and I became so invested in the characters. I’d definitely recommend this title to anyone after a great thriller that you can’t put down.
4.5⭐️ I AM ENTERING MY THRILLER ERA!!
I have not read other Frieda McFadden books but I will be checking them out now!
The Coworker is a rollercoaster in all the best ways possible. I felt such a love and then hatred and then love and then hatred for certain characters, it always had me guessing where they stand! I was convinced I had this book figured out- but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The twists never stop coming, and they were never lackluster.
Some parts of Dawn’s character felt quite repetitive, but overall, The Coworker was a very enjoyable read. It is also very fast paced which is one of the many reasons I loved it. It is a great, bingeable read!
And she does it again! Another faced paced book that keep me reading until the end, the need to know what the twist will be and I never see them (the twist) with Freida McFadden books. This book kept me in my favourite comfy reading spot from page one right through to the end. I will be recommending it to everyone I know and Freida is fast becoming an Author that "if she writes it I will read it". If it is not on your TBR yet it is a must add. Highly Recommended.
Thank you NetGalley, Freida McFadden and @poisonedpenpress for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. My only questions now ...... when is the next Freida McFadden release due? :)
Dawn is a very punctual person. She lives by a schedule and is thought of as very odd by her coworkers. But the accounted has emailed two of her coworkers, one her boss and the other who is the “popular girl” of the office. When the next day comes and Dawn doesn’t show up at work land a weird call comes in on a her phone her coworker Natalie becomes worried.
I really thought Dawn was weird at all. Throughout this book you see the current timeline and the months leading up to Dawn’s disappearance. Presumed deceased, all the cops have to go on is Dawn’s emails to and from her best friend and the things the other people in the office tell them. Throughout this you can tell that Dawn is definitely an odd ball, she is not a character you would normally see in books which was refreshing.
Natalie you can tell was the “popular girl” throughout her entire life. Using her looks and charisma to charm everyone around her. At times I felt really sorry for her. Other times i was annoyed. I feel that Friend did a really good job with her character development because when I was mad or annoyed it wasn’t because I was with the writing of the book but how she wrote the characters and the situations that were happening.
Overall I really enjoyed this and can;t wait to dive in the rest of Freidas backlog
okay hear me out, i did really enjoy this book. however, if you put it in a line up with a bunch of thrillers, it wouldn’t stick out to me. i predicted most of the twists, which isn’t typical for a freida book!!! i didn’t want to put it down don’t get me wrong, but again after sitting with the ending, it was very average for me.
i would recommend to people who love freida and lots of twists, i’m sure a lot of people out there will love it and i can see reasons why they would!
Once again, the master of twists knocks it out of the park. I couldn't put this book down it was so addicting. I found this one a tiny bit predictable, and I was able to guess part of it hence the 4 stars, but the twists were so fun, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the split timelines and the turtles!Absolute must read!
Freida did it again! You might predict one or two small details, but buckle your seatbelt because you haven’t figured it all out.
The Coworker follows two female leads - Natalie, “Miss Perfect”, and Dawn, the awkward coworker who is such a creature of habit, you can set your watch off her. Dawn also has an obsession with… turtles.
As the story unfolds, you begin to see the dynamics within the office - the friendships, the rivalries and the drama that comes along with both.
The Coworker makes you wonder what secrets those you work with every day are keeping.
**Thank you to Netgalley, Poisoned Pen Press & Freida for the opportunity to review this ARC of The Coworker!
Freida McFadden has done it again 👏🏼
THE COWORKER is a fast-paced physiological thriller that keeps you on your toes. The pace never lets up and keeps you intrigued from beginning to end. And the plot twists!! I had some ideas about the ending BUT the twists (yes there is multiple(added so much more to the story. It was like a literacy rollercoaster. The characters are unlikeable but you still want to read about them. The style of book is slightly different but I thought it helped the storyline more than harming it.
I also learned a lot about turtles which is always fun. It was woven into the story in such a way that I was one intrigued but two didn’t feel it was taking away from the story.
THE COWORKER releases in August 29th and should be added to your ever growing TBR!
Thank you to netgalley, Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy!!
So easily 5 stars! This was my 15th McFadden thriller and I am obsessed. I read this in 3 hours and I adored it. I have video review on my tiktok @kurryreads - probably my 4th favorite McFadden book right now. I cannot wait for my physical copy I pre-ordered to arrive!
This book was great! The twists kept coming! I love trying to predict the outcome but I love that this book kept me changing my predictions. I was shocked when everything comes to light.
This book is your typical Freida book. I love her writing style (not overly descriptive, books are a good length, easy reading). I read this in one sitting (she always sucks me in!) and it was an enjoyable read with some great twists
I was ecstatic when I received a copy of The Coworker!
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for sharing this advanced reader copy in the form of an e-book in exchange for my honest review.
I devoured it in two days!
The story revolves around a woman named Natalie who is loved and adored by all at first glance and then the story unravels! When her coworker goes missing the plot thickens and interweaves the characters with unexpected plot twists.
The Coworker is a fast paced thriller.
This is a classic Freida book - if you love her books you are going to love this one too. I love Freida's writing style because it keeps us entertained and shocked through out the book.
Highly Recommend!
Another excellent thriller from Freida, I consumed this in one sitting! Won’t post any spoilers but I was so convinced I had this one figured out only to be bamboozled at the end which I LOVE! I don’t like easy to solve books and Freida has such layers to her books:( Definitely enjoyed the book and recommend 100%
4/5: I enjoyed it and would recommend
This is my first Freida McFadden book. I was introduced to her from The Toast.
I loved this spooky thriller with two very unlikeable characters, I couldn’t decide who I disliked more!
Lots of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I loved it. Can’t wait to dive in to other books by this author.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review!
This book definitely has a Freida vibe to it! Two co-workers, one vanishes! Was it murder?
The first few chapters of the book were slow for me and the story was being developed! Lots of focus on Dawn’s quirks and idiosyncrasies surrounding turtles!! Once we get to part 2 things quickly pick up. Now you’re drawn it wondering who did it? How will it end?? The ending was quite satisfying for me. Are the characters likable? That’s a hard no! But that’s half the fun..
