Freida McFadden has quickly become one of my absolute favorite thriller / mystery authors. She’s quickly been an autobuy author and i have yet to be disappointed in any of her books!

The coworker was a whirlwind! Everytime i thought i knew where it was headed, it surprised me. I will say the beginning was a bit slow for me because there was so much turtle talk, but i did end up really enjoying the book as a whole. I would definitely recommend.

McFadden typically wows me and I devour her books! This one was a little bit more average to me vs most of her other books. The twists were a little more predictable and I was less addicted. McFadden continues to be a strong author and I can't wait to read her next one!

McFadden’s The Coworker is a fast paced thriller that will keep you turning the pages! I can always count on McFadden to reel me in.

Everyone has that coworker - the one that drives you a little bit crazy and is slightly social awkward, and that is Dawn to a tee. Natalie has been the top sales rep for years, is drop dead gorgeous, and extremely popular. One day, Dawn doesn’t show up
for work, and Natalie is worried, especially after she gets a strange phone call where somebody whispers “help me.” Nobody else seems super worried, so Natalie decides to check things out on her own and discovers a large blood stain at Dawn’s house. Although Natalie was the one that reported Dawn missing, she rapidly begins to feel like the police suspect her in Dawn’s disappearance and strange things start happening. Natalie needs to figure out what happened to Dawn, and fast!

This story is told in a couple of sections from different points of view. Initially, we hear from Natalie, but emails that Dawn sent are interspersed, and later we do get Dawn’s perspective as well. The emails that are throughout really help engage the reader and offer more depth to the story. Initially, it seems like Natalie is the popular girl and Dawn is the outcast, but this story has twists and turns that keep it from being stereotypical.

Another fast paced page turner from McFadden! Thanks to McFadden, Poisoned Pen Press, and NetGalley for the advance copy!

Look, bullying is a serious issue, and I am very happy that authors are tackling it as a subject. However, there seems to be a recent trend in literature where someone is wronged by bullying (both directly and/or indirectly) and they then spend YEARS planning some sort of revenge. Now, do I like the idea of bullies getting what they deserve in the future? Sure... sure I do. But do I think that some of these plots are getting a bit convoluted? Involve just a little too much time (we're talking spending 12 years of your life to make up a plan to get back at someone here)? That's how I felt about the new Freida McFadden book "The Coworker."

A disgruntled woman (Dawn) finds a way to start working at the same company as the now grown woman (Natalie) who bullied her friend into killing herself years ago. Okay, I'll go with it. But then Dawn gets her boyfriend (brother of the dead girl from high school) to start dating Natalie (even though he's dating Dawn) so that they can set her up for murder. I mean.... 'Gone Girl' was great, but we need to stop doing all of these 'Gone-Girl-esque' twists in these books. We switch back and forth from Natalie and Dawn's POV. Neither are reliable. Both are just messes.

By the time I got to the end, I was more than a little upset. "Nothing" really happens. There is a murder that is very quickly brushed over... but I mean... what a let down! All of this build up just to have Dawn and Natalie walk away as if nothing has happened. Are they friends now?? No backstory on how Dawn decided to kill a woman, bludgeon her, etc. -- surprisingly, she put all of this effort into setting Natalie up and that plan fails. Yet, she gets away with a violent murder? Gosh, the cops in this town suck. No evidence whatsoever??

My mind is blown. I thought I had the plot all figured out, but then there was a twist and then another and then another. By the end my head was spinning but in a good way. This was my first Freida McFadden, and I'm hooked. I can't wait to read her others. This story was about two coworkers who don't really like each other. Natalie, a beautiful woman, is a bully to Dawn and excludes her from meetings, parties, and just makes jokes at her expense. This goes on until, one day, Dawn goes missing and the finger is pointed at Natalie. Natalie claims she's innocent, but the evidence shows that it must be Natalie. This book kept my interest and on edge. It was a great read.

Been bingeing Freida's books and here's another great read from her. A fast paced thriller with all the twists we've grown to expect but not know when or where they'll appear.

Amazing! One of my favorites by Freida! This book has everything I love. Suspense, crime, a little bit of romance and an unexpected twist! I always try to figure out the exact ending in Freida’s books and I have never been able to thus far! It makes it so exciting! I loved that it switched POV’s at one point and you got to really know the thoughts of the other person and what exactly has been going on. So interesting and so good!!! Highly recommend.

This was a quick read and kept me interested the whole time. Thanks for the ARC. Can't wait to read more by this author!

THE COWORKER-Freida Mcfadden

If I recommend anybody to you and you decide to pick up a book I have suggested I urge you to grab a Freida! Her books are sooo thrilling and something about them just makes you want to read more and more. A perfect popcorn chiller to hang out with a snack and devour quickly. Short chapters and quick wit and not a lot of description but something about her writing makes you want more and more. Kind of like when I eat pizza. They are very very addicting. I have loved every single one of them and this was no exception. Freida has her own personal fan page and leading up to the release of this book she introduced us to a little figurine turtle named Sheldon. Now if you followed along, let’s say Sheldon wasn’t the nicest turtle.

When I got asked to read the ARC of this book when the turtle part came up I laughed out loud. It was such a clever marketing on her end. You meet Dawn who is obsessed with turtles. Dawn reminded me so much of Sam off of Atypical but in girl form. Dawn goes missing and her co worker is left with the mystery of finding out what happens to Dawn. Not all is what it seems….

I want to send a huge thank you to @fmcfaddenauthor and @netgalley for the chance to read this early. I am a bit late on my review but I read it within the day. I am a Freida Reada for life! I would like to thank Mandy from @poisonedpenpress for the opportunity to review and read another thriller from this amazing author.

I am looking forward to reading The Teacher being released in February.

If you are looking to read Freida’s collection it is in KindleUnlimited. But I have ordered The Coworker for the Breton Library! How cool is that??!!!

The Coworker in Freida McFadden’s latest psychological thriller is Dawn Schiff, who appears to be on the autism spectrum, yet her co-workers do not seem to pick up on that, and instead they are not very nice to her. However, is this all an act on her part?

Her arch nemesis seems to be Natalie, the top salesperson of a nutritional supplement company called Vixed, who works in the cubicle next to Dawn. Both women are driven by secrets in their lives.

Seemingly Dawn, who works at Vixed as an accountant, lacks empathy, rarely says the right thing because she cannot judge those around her, and ultimately has no friends. Or does she?

Dawn is an early-to-the office type, maintains a strict schedule of bathroom breaks and lunch breaks. People could set a clock by her. She’s never late, and yet one day she does not show up to work at all. Natalie, who has given Dawn a ride home in the past, becomes worried because no one has heard from Dawn, and when Natalie picked up a call in Dawn’s cubicle, she hears who she thinks is Dawn say, “Help me!”

After work, Natalie goes to Dawn’s place, where she finds a lot of blood on the floor. Natalie calls the police, but in a twist, she becomes the prime suspect. What next happens is well-planned and played out by a Dawn who has been working toward this certain moment for years.

Freida McFadden, a brain injury trained physician, has stated that one of her favorite books is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn because of the incredible twist in that story. She writes psychological thrillers and medical humor novels. She self-published her first book on Amazon in 2013. McFadden is best known for her book The Housemaid. She lives with her family and black cat in a centuries-old three-story home overlooking an ocean.

My review will be posted on Goodreads starting November 12, 2023.

I would like to thank Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.

An exciting, unputdownable, explosive fast-paced addictive psychological thriller. I enjoyed every second of this book. I couldn't turn the page fast enough. Freida always gives a twist that leads to a shocking ending. A must-read. My favorite book by Freida!!

I love Freida's popcorn thriller books and this was no exception. A coworker goes missing and when Natalie goes looking, she finds a body.

I liked the emails and that the MC is neurodivergent. I did not like any of the characters, but that isn't really necessary for me in a thriller. I thought the story itself unfolded a little slow for me, but I'm glad I kept with it because that twist. Never even considered it as I read.

Fabulous! Lots of wonderful twists, and this book kept my attention throughout. I liked how the narration switched between the two main characters, and the fact that the one was presented mostly in email form was quite effective. Excellent writing, intriguing plot--everything one wants from this kind of book! Many thanks for NetGalley and Poison Pen Press for an e-ARC of this book. I'll definitely be seeking out more books by Freida McFadden!
