I want to start by saying thank you to St.Martin's Press and NetGalley for approving my request to read "Love, Naturally" as an advanced reader.
SUMMARY:
This story follows Presley, a young woman who works as a concierge at a fancy, exclusive hotel. She goes to surprise her boyfriend with a camping trip, something that he would love and she totally wouldn't, and is instead surprised when he dumps her instead...RUDE! But, despite not being her thing, she takes the solo trip anyway. Insert, Beckett. A rugged and sexy man who works at the lodge where she'll be staying. The two characters are an unlikely pair, quite the opposite, but they go so well together and encourage each other to take risks that pay off in the end for them.
REVIEW:
I thought this book was adorable. I love a small town romance and enjoyed the characters so much. Beckett is my ideal definition of a man and I couldn't help by drool over him. The one thing I didn't totalllyy love about this book was the mention of social media, I like to read to escape the world we live in so when social media is mentioned in a book, it just isn't for me. But it wasn't over bearing and it did add to the plot in a nice way.
Dumped by her boyfriend when presenting him with a nature-oriented vacation she got him as a gift, Presley takes the trip solo despite it being completely out of her comfort zone. At the Get Lost Lodge, she meets Beckett, a rugged handsome mountain man who is part of the family who owns the lodge.
Oh, man, this book started off so cringey with poor, pathetic, doormat Presley having a reckoning with her half-baked life choices... and two seconds later she's in love with a fellow people pleaser, neither of whom has stood on their own two feet. I thought this romance lacked depth and was too focused on social media, but I enjoyed the way the characters supported each other. This may be the book for you if you like instalove, small town vibes, and found family.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for gifting me with an ARC to review! All opinions are my own.
“Love, Naturally” by Sophie Sullivan
Swoon worthy Romance, for sure
I fell in love with this story, the characters, and the town, too. There is so much love and romance contained within this story it is inevitable there will be heartache as well as joy as the characters struggle with choices and the challenges to achieve success. You may need a tissue and most likely will have chuckles. Sometimes we just need to stretch the boundaries of our comfort zone to attain our true happy place. Happy Reading ! !
Note: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received an ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley.
This was such a sweet romance! I really loved how both of the main characters had to work through their own individual issues, but they were able to do so while finding one another. There were so many fun moments, and the side characters were perfection!
This is the second book I've ready by Sophie Sullivan and I absolutely loved both!
I found this book such a cute and sweet romance! I completely flew through it, reading it in one sitting. If you're looking for a deep romance, probably not the best pick for you, but if you're looking for a light, casual, and sweet rom-com, this is definitely the book for you!
It's a slow burn, which I really liked. It wasn't like the characters fell in love right away, there was tension and it felt more realistic. The chemistry was great and the tension was perfect! It was definitely a slight spice book so don't expect a whole lot of spice.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers for this Advanced Readers Copy of Love, Naturally by Sophie Sullivan!
This is my first book by Sophie Sullivan. She did a wonderful job of painting a picture of the island, the lodge, the town of Smile, MI. I felt like I was there in so many of the scenes. Northern Michigan holds some of my favorite landscapes and areas to visit/admire. So reading a story set in those areas made me happy.
The story follows Presley, a city girl and Beckett, an outdoorsy single man…while I enjoyed their connection, I was still wanting just a little more. The relationships that are formed between guests and the family members are some of my favorite moments from this book. All in all I enjoyed reading it.
I received this book for free for an honest unbiased review from Netgalley.
I wish more books were this well written. Characters were witty and the setting fantastic.
I breezed through this romance novel, it was so damn sweet! We have Presley who goes on a trip that was really for her and her boyfriend, some camping, fishing, hiking, stuff she isn’t into but he is for sure. Well, that didn’t work out because he’s a douchebag, so she decided to go alone, and this trip gave her exactly what she needed.
Where she is staying is a family business, cute little cabin resort, and it was so easy to fall in love with Beck and his family. The chemistry between Beck and Presley was 🔥🔥, and even the amazing people who were vacationing there too. I love heartfelt romances where the people are amazing, they support each others dreams and aspirations….. and the way Beck wins Presley back after she goes back home???? 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 so freaking sweet! I shed a few happy tears, I’m not going to lie lol.
I really enjoyed this book! Flew through it! Definitely not the book for you if you want something deep. It's very insta love (but as a hopeless romantic, that was perfect for me). The family in the book is amazing and I really want to read more about the brother and sister in the series.
I also loved the outdoorsy cabin/lodge setting as well as the small cozy town. Feels like a perfect book to read in the colder months.
It did slow down a good bit in the middle and the ending wrapped up with very little actual conflict, but what else do you expect from a contemporary romance?
I have read all of Sophie Sullivan's books, and this one is just as amazing! I could not stop reading it. I even put down my Christmas romances, which I've been obsessed with lately, so I could fully enjoy this one. So thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me the opportunity to read Love, Naturally.
At its core, the romance was nothing short of adorable and wholesome. The connection between the main characters, Presley and Beckett, had me swooning. They were from two different worlds, the city and a small town. One loved hiking, one did not. Their differences worked together to create a well-balanced romance that kept me reading.
Also, can we just talk about the broader aspects of this book? It was more than just a romance book. It was a book of two people finding out what they wanted in life and finding the courage to make that happen. Beckett and Presley encouraged each other to step into new things and were each other's cheerleaders. There were so many moments that highlighted the importance of family, and finding family to call your own. I love a good found-family trope. Early on you meet probably the best character, Beckett's niece Ollie who brought so much joy to the story. There was a depth that went beyond romance, making this book fresh and exciting.
Surprisingly, the inclusion of social media was something I liked. I tend to shy away from books that explicitly reference social media like TikTok and Instagram, but Sullivan managed to integrate them into her story well. Presley, a small-scale influencer, ended up using her platform to bring attention to Beckett's family resort, in an adorably hilarious way I might add. The addition of social media felt organic and didn't take me out of the plot.
If you're a fan of swoon-worthy, contemporary romances this is the book for you. It's light on spice, but full of tension. It provides you with the perfect amount of swooning and entertainment.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Saint Martins Press for the opportunity to receive this arc in exchange for a review .
I liked this book . The characters were super cute , Beckett was definitely a swoony MMC . I loved Presleys character ! Insta love is usually a trope I struggle to like and I did find it a bit too slow paced for my taste as I read faster paced reads most times but it was cute and glad I got the opportunity to read ☺️
3 stars.
"Love, Naturally" by Sophie Sullivan will cleanse your palate so good. It's essentially the book equivalent of a Hallmark movie, a saccharine-sweet, warm hug of a story about finding yourself, putting yourself back together, not settling, and trying new things. It's a small-town insta-love opposites attract fake dating story that features Presley, a hotel concierge/mid-level budget travel influencer who, after trying to surprise her boyfriend of 8 months with his dream vacation, promptly gets dumped. She decides to go on her planned vacation alone and meets Beckett, who works at the Get Lost lodge, which is owned by his brother. He *~doesn't do social media,*~ he loves and adores his family, he's a golden retriever, and he has big dreams of following a career other than helping at his brother's crumbling lodge. Their attraction to each other starts and grows quickly. Where Presley loves being and thriving online, Beckett doesn't use Instagram, has never heard of Christian Grey, and doesn't know what FML means. I found this to be, frankly, ridiculous. Even if you don't use social media, you'd likely know common abbreviations used online, and you'd likely know the main character of one of the most talked about books of all time, even if you hadn't read it. Unfortunately, I found this book to be so poorly and slowly paced that I almost stopped reading it a few times. 60% into the book and barely anything had happened up to that point. The prose is very repetitive. This book takes place over a very short time span, so it really shouldn't be as slow as it is. It feels like it drags and drags and drags, and then it's over. This story is not badly written, but it's pretty dull. Despite Presley and Beckett's insta-love, there's no chemistry or fire or spark between them. Their coupling felt forced based on their proximity (both physically and because she just broke up with her ex-boyfriend...rebound much?). The best part about this book is the family/found family aspect. Beckett and his family are super close. I loved his brother and their family, especially Ollie, who was absolutely adorable. I also appreciated how his family essentially adopted Presley as one of their own, no questions asked. It was fun to see Presley move out of her city-loving comfort zone and embrace nature and small-town life in an antithetical move to her true self. Overall, I wanted to love this book, but I didn't. It's very forgettable. If you're a person who *only* wants to read sappy, light books full of levity and low stakes, this one is for you. While I do like that kind of book, this one was too slow and too repetitive for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sophie Sullivan, and St. Martin's Press, and St. Martin's Griffin for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for my review.
Presley and Beckett
Small town romance
Presley, a concierge and blogger, attempts to save her relationship with her boyfriend Emmett has gone wrong. Now she’s on vacation alone at a cabin, an unfamiliar environment for her.
Beckett is the brother of the owner of The Get Lost Lodge. The lodge is being updated and repaired by the siblings working together. Beckett works in a shop with a decision to become part owner or fulfil his own dream.
Their chemistry was instant and Presley was not one to shy away from her feelings for him. I loved how the characters developed and their relationship. They helped each other reach their goals and were really good together. I enjoyed the small town vibe and community.
I really enjoyed their story. I was not fond of the beginning of the book. It did not feel authentic and a bit comical. Although, the cover is nice it did not do this book any justice. I wish it had a more ‘mature’ look/feel to it. I would definitely like to read about Grayson story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this arc.
》ARC Review: Love, Naturally《
I was very curious about Love,Naturally when I first reads it synopsis and I’m very pleased to have found a lovely romance upon reading this one. I want to head back to the town of Smile and make myself at home again.
》The Leads《
Presley and Beckett are incredible leads. I so admired how Presley took herself out of her comfort zone to experience something seemingly unnatural to her, only to discover how natural it came. How she found her home.
Beckett is all about home and family, and what I loved from his arc is how he learned it was also okay to put himself first sometimes. That he could forge his own independent path.
I loved the supporting characters, primarily Beckett’s siblings and niece! They breathed so much life onto the page. I hope the siblings get their own stories!
》The Romance《
When I read the blurb, I expected a more grumpy, reluctant male lead against the bubbly, sunshine-y heroine. Instead we meet an instantly and mutually smitten pair of leads. And I loved it! It’s definitely not instalove (although technically it is as story unfolds in ten days— but it doesn’t feel like it!), rather a slow burn that paces itself very well between simmering to full boil. I loved the chemistry between our leads and the romance that developed from it. I believed in it, I cheered it on, and I swooned endlessly over it.
》The Story《
A qualm I did encounter was the middle portion of the book. I found my attention waning, it simply dragged on a bit too long for my own personal preferences. I sought out other books before returning to finish this one. But once I got over the hurdle of a long-winded middle, the ending came so gorgeously onto the scene, delivering a particular quote I think will be shared and reshared so many times. I won’t spoil it but it’s a very poignant sentiment about not wanting to say goodbye to the person you always want to say hello to.
》To Sum it Up《
I felt at home when I read this romance, it was effortless to root for our leads and their story filled my heart with joy and love. This book excels not only with a solid romance but also a charming supporting cast. I’m glad to have read this one!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a sweet summer romance. Presley meets Beckett on vacation and they fall in love after spending time together. There are some fun and interesting characters. The plot is simple and easy to follow along as readers turn the pages. Readers will enjoy the easy ebb and flow of the conversation between characters as they get to know each other.
I wasn’t prepared to like this cute romantic story as much as I did. A quirky small town, "Up North" lake life, insta-love and relatively believable characters combine to create a delightful world that I hope Sullivan visits again in the future. We need Gray, Jill and Rylee’s stories next!
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Presley, a talented concierge, decides to surprise her boyfriend with a trip to the Get Lost lodge but instead of being excited, he dumps her.
She is definitely not the kind of girl you'd see in the wilderness. Beckett feels an immediate draw to her and the rest is history.
Presley and Beckett were amazing characters and their story was really really sweet.
I would love to support your authors, but unfortunately it seems as though St. Martin's Press and Wednesday books would prefer to stay quiet about the vile posts made by your employee. These statements were anti-Palestinian, Islamophobic, Queerphobic, and made even more vile by the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. St. Martin's Press and Wednesday books have continued to ignore their many influencers who are calling for a statement that meets the following criteria:
1. Address and denounce the Islamophobia, Queerphobia, and racism from your employee.
2. Offer tangible steps for how you're going to mitigate the harm this employee caused.
3. Address how, moving forward, you will support and protect your Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab readers, influencers, and authors in addition to their BIPOC readers, influencers, and authors.
It is concerning that a company who prides themselves on their diverse readership cares so little about racial violence in the wake of a violent ethnic cleansing that your own employee appears to be in support of. Until the demands of the boycott are met, myself and many others will not promote or review any books from St. Martin's Press or related imprints.
It is similarly concerning that a publisher who relies heavily on influencer marketing is so willing to dismiss their own influencers who are responsible for large amounts of book sales by utilizing their platforms to share and spread the word about your books. You are willing to make money off of us, but unwilling to listen or address our concerns. I can only hope that St. Martin's Press and Wednesday books take action to rectify this issue.
This book was cute, but as some other reviewers have stated, the pacing was sloooow. I enjoyed a lot of aspects of the story, especially the quirky side characters and the found family aspects. But it did feel like it could have been several chapters shorter since it took place over a short amount of time. Insta-love isn’t a favorite of mine, but i didn’t let it taint my review because the writing was well done and the story was sweet.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
