I found this book to be overly complicated and slightly overwhelming. I'm not quite sure what it was trying to achieve.
I just didn't get it.
Not for me!
The Motivational interviewing Path To Personal Change by Michelle Drapkin is an excellent book for getting you to stick to a new habit because it uses behavioral science to help you uncover the reason why. However, I found myself lacking the motivation to fill out the self-reflective questions. It's not a fault of the book, but it was too easy to skip ahead and miss the real work. If you really want to make healthy changes in your life, there are no short-cuts. Read this book in sections and do the work.
Overall, it was well-written and easy to follow, but I found the use of acronyms such as DARN-CAT and COM-B confusing and had to constantly turn back to remind myself of what they stood for.
I think this would be a good book to follow in a weekly, disciplined way, especially if you are self-motivated and like journaling. Also, it would be a good reference book for health professionals to help them understand why their patient won't stick to healthy habits.
