These amigurumi designs are so gorgeous and the patterns are easy to follow and well written.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me access this book in exchange for my feedback.
This book has cute crochet amigurumi that were just what I was looking for. It has great descriptions of the stitches and what's you need at the beginning. It includes pictures as you go so you can see how things should be looking. I would consider myself an intermediate crocheter and I think this would be great or beginners too. The way you do limbs in this book is so different but I think I love it.
They say we're millenials so we enjoy new hobbies, including crochet. Is it true? In my case, it definitely is. I love spending hours learning and crafting things. So this book is just the perfect companion for our new activity because it comes with a lot of animals to crochet step by step.
Super cute and easy to follow crochet patterns. I will be recommending this to friends and fam new to the craft or already pros because they are such cute patterns.
As someone who recently got into crocheting. I found this book to be cute and easy to follow. Especially with them including illustrations.
Thank you to the publishers here at NetGalley for providing me with an arc of it.
Title: Cute and Cuddly Animals Crochet
Author: Lauren Bergstrom
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review: I love to crochet. I've never tried amigarumi though, but this book makes it easy. Not only does the book give the patterns and directions for how to make these cute animals, but it starts with the very easiest basics and materials so that people at any level and with any ability can try and succeed at this.
I liked how she gave clear instructions for all of the stitches, and how she gave different options if you wanted to try different things, and gave clear photos so you can see how things should look at each step.
This is such a fun book for new and veteran crocheters. I loved the assortment of projects as well as the pictures and tips.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
What cute little crochet characters this book has! I found a few that I would love to make for friends and family as gifts. The pattern seem easy to make and follow. I highly recommend to all crocheter's out there!
As someone who is still getting the hang of crocheting animals this book was amazing! It was set out beautifully with lots of pictures to help guide you through. Right at the start of the book is a page with crochet terms and abbreviations which is very helpful. Each and every patten in this book is as the title suggested cute, I would say adorable! Unfortunately I have not gotten round to making any of these yet but I know when I do I will be able to do so with ease and comfort following the simple step by step instructions.
I will add although this book I found this book to be beginner friendly I feel it would be beneficial for anyone looking to purchase this to have a basic understanding of crochet first. Making cute and cuddly crochet animals is brilliant but not the easiest place to start! Please do not let that put you off purchasing this book thought because once you have the hang of things with the help of Lauren and her great book you will have looks of cuddly animals in no time!
I'd say I'm an advanced beginner crocheter and my amigurumi experience is limited to a Star Wars kit and a Harry Potter kit that I have, both of which I love. I adore amigurumi in general though and think it's so cute, so I jumped at the chance to review this! I haven't had a chance to make any of these yet but they're all adorable and the instructions seems clear and easy to follow. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to beginner crocheters who want to learn how to make cute tiny animals!
I really liked this book, it was different than anything else I've read which was a breath of fresh air. I will be recommending this to my friends, and auto buy this author!
The book is a compilation of 12 amigurumi projects alongside basic stitch instructions, an exploration of the tools and materials needed, and tips and tricks, very helpful for beginners in the art of crochet. As a beginner, I felt everything I needed to know was inside the book. How to start, how to finish, and I never had any questions while I was crocheting. If I was uncertain about a stitch, all I had to do was go back a few pages to the basics and problem solved. And it felt so easy to crochet.
When I decided to review a crochet book, I decided I had to craft something from it. I could read it all and flip through the pages with all the amigurumi instructions. But to really see if I liked the book, I had to test a pattern. I chose the Narwhal because it was the only one I had yarn for. I didn’t want to go out and buy new yarn, so I chose the amigurumi with the closest colour scheme. And I have to say, this was the most hassle-free crochet project I’ve done so far, and it feels amazing. While I still had a little pickle at the end (which I’ll go over later on) it was incredibly relaxing to work on this project. And that goes to show how well the pattern was written. Even with a small yarn weight and hook, the pattern worked perfectly. The instructions are all for super bulky yarn, but you can easily use other yarn weights and end with a different-sized amigurumi.
Apart from the Flamingo, Llama and Octopus, all the other animals have a very pillowy shape. I find they are perfect to have as reading buddies (it’s a good shape to prop up a book in your lap), and if you don’t mind hurting their feelings, then even using them as pillows – I don’t think I could ever do that. Since they don’t have strange shapes, it also means they are even easier to do. But don’t think they are all the same. Almost all of them have a different detail or a differently shaped piece or even use a new stitch. Meaning with every new plush you crochet, you’ll learn something new.
The book is simple, minimalist and colourful. The pages aren’t cramped with text and images that can get overwhelmed. Even explaining the basic stitches and the loop over or under (which I haven’t had the opportunity to experiment with yet) was so simple. It has a diagram highlighting where the yarn goes under which stitch, alongside a detailed explanation, making it easy to follow. The chapter on the tools and materials explains the very basics as a beginner you need to know. There’s also my favourite chapter, the tips and tricks, which even explains how to crochet a circle and how to avoid said circle looking like a hexagon. This was something I had to spend a little while searching online to understand. So, to have all this knowledge grouped together in a book is quite handy, especially for a beginner.
My only complaint is how short the sewing instructions are. For the Narwhal, I had to sew the horn, the tail, and the fins and embroider the mouth and eyes. While it has instructions on which rows to attach the fins, I still felt lost. Right now, my biggest difficulty is sewing either eyes or body parts. I’m just doing how it makes sense to me. But it’s hard, and I’m always unsure if I’m doing it properly. Which translates into a lot of undoing and redoing. Maybe there isn’t much more that can be explained in that regard, and so the book is not at fault. However, because this is a beginner’s book, I was expecting more detailed instructions about sewing and embroidering the amigurumi.
For my first ever crochet book, I loved it and recommend it to every beginner crocheter out there. The plushies are cute like the title says, and a fun and great way to dip your toes into the world of amigurumi and crochet. Whenever the opportunity arises, I’ll buy super bulky yarn and make one in its full cuddly size potential. But for now, I’m happy with my hand-sized narwhal.
The patterns in this book were easy to understand. Great starter book for those who want to pick up amigurumi. For those familiar with crochet, could easily adapt the patterns for larger hooks and bulkier yarn.
Stuffies were adorable, and made; would make great gifts for any of the crafting community!
Adorable crochet pattern book with easy-to-follow instructions for 12 cute animals, including a flamingo, fox, llama and sloth. There are illustrated instructions for basic stitches, materials lists for each project and photos showing the various stages of completion. My 12 year old daughter has been wanting to learn crochet and this would be the perfect book to pique her interest.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This was such a cute book! i don't crochet anymore but this book make me want to get back into it for sure!! everything is so cute and the instructions looked clear and doable, even though i haven't done it in over a decade lmao
I received an arc copy via netgalley for honest review. I'm extremely new to crochet so while the designs in this book are absolutely stunning and the instructions seem very clear I still failed in my attempts to be able to follow them and start a project so maybe I'd suggest this for beginners with a bit more experience than me but hopefully after some more practice I'll give it another shot and finally make that beautiful flamingo for my daughter
I love this crochet book! This book is filled with easy to follow patterns for medium size crochet plushies! The picture tutorials at the beginning are the best. The octopus project from this book marks the first time I’ve been able to make an adjustable ring on the first try. It always takes me so many video tutorials to figure it out, but the beginning of this book helped me get it right away. Also, in the beginning of the book, There is a section on eyes. There are so many eye options including safety eyes (which I tend to buy and never find again), felt eyes, embroidered eyes, and crochet eyes. I appreciate the directions for customizing each little creature.
This is a great illustrated, very easy to follow instruction book… the step by step photos are great, and all the projects are super cute. Highly recommend for beginners.
Thank you for allowing me to read this advanced reader's copy of this book! I've always wanted to learn how to crochet, and glimpsing through this book, I can't wait to get started making these adorable projects! If you have any children who would love adorable crocheted animals/dolls, or just want to make them for yourself because they're just that cute, and know how to crochet, this book is for you!
Cute & Cuddly Crochet: Learn to Make Huggable Amigurumi Animals by Lauren Bergstrom is currently scheduled for release on September 5 2023. Author and artist Lauren Bergstrom provides 12 step-by-step projects for crocheting popular, trendy, huggable animals, such as a flamingo, a dinosaur, an elephant, an octopus, a red panda, a fox, a narwhal, and more. While amigurumi animals are often very small, this book features instructions and tips for crocheting larger plushie animals that are perfect for baby gifts, birthday gifts for kids, home decor, and more. Cute & Cuddly Crochet also offers a guide for crochet basics, such as crochet techniques, stitches, how to do color changes, materials and where to source them, and much more. Accompanying the book are helpful videos from the author.
Cute & Cuddly Crochet offers readers a good selection of projects, with helpful hints and tricks that will make these projects (and future endeavors) less intimidating and stressful. I thought the text was easy to follow and the pictures were very well chosen to give a solid visual reference to the instructions. I like that the author left room for personalization, and showed some variation with eyes and colors, giving the crafter some room to make things their own. I think this book offers readers exactly what it promises. For crafters that are looking to make this style of project on a regular basis this might be a good addition to your crafting library.
