I’ve been a casual crochet-er for about a decade now, but I definitely got more into it during the Covid lockdowns, during which time I made approximately 3 blankets. I’ve been looking to get more into making little crochet animals, but have been struggling to find good, comprehensive tutorials that are reliable and trustworthy, and actually tell you all the materials you’re going to need up front. This book is great because the instructions are so clear, the pictures are really informative, and you get the patterns for many different crochet animal projects. I loved making the little dinosaur, and I can’t wait to try out some more!
Some of these were very cute, like the flamingo, the red panda, the llama, the fox, and the octopus. The rest (platypus and narwhal) were chunky, which my wife liked, but I did not... However I guess that's what makes them huggable.
This is a really adorable collection of patterns of Japanese-inspired designs for stuffed animals. It also includes basic instructions that are easy to follow, even for beginners. As someone relatively new to crochet, I'm really looking forward to making a few of these for gifts! Love it!

I love this book! It gives the basics and a step by step on how to make so many different little plushies of different animals. I am a beginner in crochet and it is very beginner friendly. There are pictures to show you as well. It tells you what materials and tools you will need, what the size is going to be as the end product and what kind of stitching you would be doing. It breaks it down in body parts and then how to put it together. I thought this was a very informative crocheting book that could be helpful to those who would want to dive into crocheting.
I'm a very advanced crocheter, and I think this collection of amigurumi patterns is great for anybody who wants to crochet. The beginning goes over all the terms, different types of stitches, and the materials you'll need. I like that while every pattern uses super bulky yarn, there's an example at the beginning of what a piece will look like if you used worsted weight.
Some of the amigurumi are unique. Sloths, red pandas, platypuses, and french bulldogs are not common patterns so it's nice to have something a bit different.
They way most of the patterns add limbs is very unique to me. Gaps are created on the main piece and legs are then crocheted on from the gaps. Usually you either start with the legs and crochet the body onto them or have to sew them on individually, which I personally hate doing.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

First of all, the little critters in this book are super adorable and I want to make each one! Some of the most unique things I've seen in a crochet book was the flamingo with a crown and the narwhal! I appreciated that there was a list in the beginning of all the tools and materials needed, as well as different options for adding eyes and embellishments on your animal. The illustrations and pictures are also very cute and add to the overall cute and cuddly feel that the book was going for.
As a new beginner picking this up, I struggled a bit with some of the instructions, so I would say that this is perhaps geared more towards a more advanced beginner that had a little practice already with crochet. That being said, there were a lot of great pointers on making the circle rounder and progress photos along the way.
This is a lovely laid out book, with plenty of photos to guide you.
I loved the way they made everything extremely clear, great for beginners and experts alike. Showing how the different types of eyes, or different embellishments looked for a creature was very helpful.
Most of the cuddly creatures were similar shapes with easy to crochet bodies. This is a very nice crochet book to add to your collection with very clear instructions, a pleasure to read or work from.
Cute and Cuddly Crochet is all about upscaled amigurumi. Big-urumi? Meg-urumi?
Worked in bulky yarn, there are twelve adorable plush animals to make that are all extremely cute and designed to be cuddled. Each project gives you the expected size of the finished animal, and is well laid out with easy to follow patterns and progress shots of the pieces. (I do like the technique of leaving holes for the legs and adding them on!).
Stitches, tools, techniques and abbreviations were all clearly outlined at the start of the book, and the tips and tricks section was a useful addition. .
I would recommend this for an advanced beginner, or someone used to creating amigurumi rather than someone just picking up a hook for the first time.
I will be definitely making the flamingo and the dinosaur!

Super easy instructions with photos to help you understand the different stitches. And such adorable plushies to make I plan to make more of the ones in the book cause they’re all adorable!
This book is so cute and easy to read! As a beginner crocheter, I found all of the patterns very easy to understand. If you’re looking for quick projects with unique animals, look no further!
Cute and fun crochet animals, love the flamingo! This book offers great instructions, which as a newbie to crochet I need.

Cute and cuddly crochet is the perfect book for people wanting to make large plush amigurumi animals. It is also easy to follow for those just getting started in amigurumi. The author has included information on crochet tools, materials and stitches to make this book accessible even for a beginner crocheter. Crochet techniques are explained well and demonstrated in photos. The twelve patterns included in the book range from a dinosaur to a French bulldog giving variety for those wanting to make their own cuddly animals.
As with many crochet books, this one starts with the basics. And that's a necessary for any how to because you can't assume that everyone picking up your book knows their crochet. Also, even if you do know crochet, sometimes you forget or perhaps you don't quite remember the codes the same way. Yes, I'm still a beginner working my way up to actually tackling something more than a chain, which is all I could do when I was a kid. The instructions for the basic crochet stitches are well done, with descriptions and illustrations that are clear and concise without being too little information. I also appreciated how she showed different options for switching things up with the simple use of different eyes. The book also goes through each of the patterns in enough detail for someone who learns visually and/or through written instructions. Enough of a balance and enough photos to be able to piece things together.
The various crochet critters are interesting. The platypus was a bit scary to me, but that may have more to with the crochet eyes. I almost wanted this one to have safety eyes because it probably would have been cuter. My favourite by far was the octopus. That's the one that I would want to make, although I probably would have to get through an easier one like the pug first. The one thing that I kind of missed was the author showing some of the options presented in the intro for the various animals. I really wanted to see safety eyes because I feel like those would have changed the personalities of the crochet critters.

I am an advanced crocheter, and i totally fell for the french bulldog ! All the toys were so cute. And good for beginners to see the different stitches used at the beginning.
I will probably make the french bulldog first but the others are nice too ! Thank you for the really cute patterns. I'm really impatient.
As a crocheter who's new to the world of stuffed animals, I thought this was delightful, approachable, and super cute! Will definitely refer back to this and take plenty of inspiration from it.
I love this book! As someone who recently learned how to crochet, these patterns felt totally doable. Lauren Bergstrom breaks everything down in the beginning to make this very user friendly.. I can't wait to make some stuffed animals to give as gifts.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for this ARC!
Great pattern book for both pros and newbies. I love that there is a thorough explanation of stitches, materials and terms that includes pictures. The patterns are absolutely precious and the instructions are quick and easy to follow. For beginners they will give you great practice that results in cutesy little lovies and for pros they would be easy to alter and make your own creations. Definitely recommend it for my fellow crocheters!
