Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy of this book. This was an enjoyable, fast read. There were a few plot holes that I wish had been better filled in and the reveal of who did the murder felt like a rush to tie things up in a way that felt like a departure from the previous trajectory of the plot. I did enjoy the mini twist at the end.
This Bachelorette Party would give any Bridezilla hives! Rosalee is about to marry her dream man so what better way to send her off into wedded bliss than spending a weekend in a creepy mansion in New Orleans? What could possibly go wrong you ask? Well, the women invited to the event mostly hate her. Her future mother and sister in law, her hubby’s best friend who is a gorgeous yoga teacher, and her two friends, who may be the type that make enemies unnecessary. Right from the start it’s clear that there was a murder, and each chapter is told from the point of view of one of the characters. They are all obviously hiding something and there are agendas at play. I actually enjoyed this, I had no idea whodunit or how or why. I liked how each character has a distinctive voice, so every chapter sounds different from the rest. The spooky atmosphere gives the read a Gothic vibe and I was invested in the characters. The detective was a little underdeveloped, in my opinion, but I didn’t mind it, since she’s not the focus of the book. Twisty and entertaining.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Harper 360, One More Chapter!
Thank you to the publisher for a review copy.
This was a fun fast paced thriller. I didn't know where it was going to go next. It's set in NOLA, now I've never visited, but I hope to someday, but from pictures I've seen I still felt like I was there. The characters were very interesting. It's a big mix of women who although seem like it should be a happy time all seem like they want to pull each others teeth out. I myself don't really have any friends so it was kind of great reading about this group of so called friends not get along. I guess I'm the weird one that doesn't like happy endings to what i read. I think this would be a wonderful thriller to anyone. It would make a great intro if you're new to the genre. I hope to read more from this author again. Let's bring on the thrills, and leave the coconut out of it. :p
What was that ending? That wasn't even a twist. What was the point of that book? I was going to give the book a three stars, because the way it kept all it's secrets to it's chest was ridiculous.
But honestly, the ending just killed the book for me.
I really enjoyed this book, but the ending was so rushed. The first half did such a great job setting up the book and introducing the characters so I was a bit disappointed when the novel ended abruptly. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper360 for the ARC.
A quick read with a lot to unpack. I would say we're more of a novella. Semi-modern day Clue? Mrs. Peacock in the Library with the candlestick anyone?
The setting is a great location with a haunted history. I liked that there was background and architecture included to help my visualize the whole thing.
The characters all vary and sometimes this can be too much, but in this case it was good. It was necessary for the plot. I would like a little more detail but there's definitely a fine line between too much about a character that overdoes it.
The plot is interesting and hits right off the bat. The introduction is short and sweet. We get right to the point here. We're going on a bachelorette weekend, with the future MIL who is clearly not excited about this union. She's also not one to hide the fact that she wants her son to be with his best friend who is along for the trip because she is a bridesmaid. Other characters include the brides best friend and MOH, the groom's sister, and the brides cousin.
The weekend starts off with a tense dinner and ends the night quickly. The next day the bachelorette party continues all day and tapers off with the help of alcohol. Flash-forward to the police station and witness questioning. Each woman is interviewed and you can begin to tick people off the victim list. The victim is unknown for the majority of the story.
We end with something that I wouldn't consider a cliff-hanger, but maybe a mid-season finally that we have become accustomed to with tv shows. There is a lot unsaid and a lot left up to the imagination. I like these endings, but then I NEED MORE. I love would a sequel that is a full novel but I'll take a second novella.
Overall I would give this 3.7 stars. There is a lot of potential for the future of this storyline!
Six women go to New Orleans for a destination bachelorette party, and one of them winds up dead.
I think that if you go into this book because you want a kind of ridiculous, campy, B-movie type of experience, you will enjoy it more than someone looking for a solid mystery.
There is not a single likable character in this book. The women are all either mean or act like they are superior and totes not like the other girls. Sometimes, the over the top bitchiness was kind of fun, but the characters did feel like caricatures of stereotypical mean girls from high school. I kind of hated how they all despised each other. Even though the cousins loved each other, there was hidden resentment; I would have liked at least one healthy relationship between the women.
I liked that we started out with not knowing who the murder victim was. I thought that letting all the women tell the events leading up to the murder, and then having them do an interview with a detective was a neat way of narrating.
Each chapter ended with a cliffhanger, but some of the cliffhangers were immediately remedied or were things that made no change to the narrative (specifically one cliffhanger regarding Tinsley and one cliffhanger about an event in Rosalee’s past).
The prose was fine, and there weren’t any glaring issues.
I feel like there is a trend where everyone is telling mysteries from different perspectives throughout a book with generally the same forced proximity premise. I think this started out interesting especially when you have a setting like New Orleans, but it seemed surface level and a bit formulaic towards the end. It was a quick and fun read.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
A bachelorette party where no one is truly as they seem? Delightful. The characters were distinctive and you found yourself rooting for the bride... and hoping that your least favorite character would be the one who bit the dust. You find out who the murder victim is in the second half of the book and I was not disappointed.
Thanks to NetGalley for this super fun murder mystery!
I really enjoyed this one! An entirely female cast of characters travels to New Orleans for a bachelorette party and one of them ends up dead. With the amount of venom between them, the murderer could be anyone. The story is face paced, well written, and incredibly fun. Definitely recommend.
I received an ARC of this book from Harper 360 via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. I have read other books by Ms. Lynch and really enjoyed them, but this one was not my favorite. However, it is a quick read and the situation (a destination bachelorette party) makes it somewhat fun.
To me, most of the characters were unlikable, and I found the reveal not very believable. However, I did enjoy how it was a secret who the dead body was, right up through the interviews with "witness number xx." I think the author was also trying to throw in a lot of red herrings (Rosalee's secret, the cousin's jealousy, the sister-in-law's strange behavior).
This just didn't really stand out to me among the many thrillers I read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review an early copy of this book. The Bachelorette Party by Carissa Ann Lynch will be released on November 14th, 2023.
I didn't love this one and definitely regret not reading the reviews before requesting it. There are too many POVs and the book is just so generic. Maybe it would have been a better fit for me with an audiobook - that usually helps with multiple POV books.
Wow! Talk about clue on steroids! This was an exciting novel , a classic take on who done it. It was a thrilling to get each woman’s perspective of the events and their skeletons they kept. The detective was great at sussing out the murderer. I was intrigued until the end. Well done. I appreciate the advanced copy from NetGalley and this review is of my own opinions.
The story grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept it until the very end. I read this book in one sitting and I never looked back! I enjoyed how the author told the story by changing the point of view to a different party member in each chapter. It really added to the story and let the reader get to really know the characters. The interrogation chapters were awesome too!!! The characters were built up well and I could not put it down!
This was my first book by this author and definitely not my last!!!
Thanks to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Netgalley for the advanced copy. All opinions are mine.
Rosalee and five others go to an eerie, creepy mansion in New Orleans for her bachelorette party. Weird things happen and everyone has things to hide. This was an amazing gothic read that I finished quickly. I can’t wait to read more by this author. Thanks NetGalley and Harper 360 for this ARC that will be rereleased November 14, 2023!
Six women on a bachelorette party weekend getaway in New Orleans........what could go wrong?
"The Bachelorette Party" starts right off with the murder of one of the participants. The weekend had been carefully planned, set at an amazing Louisiana estate with a dark history. Complete with servants, lush rooms, and plenty of pampering and partying on the schedule. The bride, her cousin, her best friend, and the grooms mother, sister & his best friend form a diverse group not totally filled with love.
This tale will keep you guessing and entertained with a twisty story.
I admit I stayed up late to finish.
Yes, I would recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley the author and Harper 360 for the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.
There is a lot I disliked about this book, and I have a lot of opinions as to how it could be better, but I want to start with the positives.
The author has a fantastic idea! I love the drama, the plot, and who/how. But I don't like how it was executed. I would have done one quick intro with the detectives (why are they not named in that first scene!?!?!) And then told the story in chronological order kind of how it was done. Or, and I like this better, the story is told through each characters point of view, but in an interview like setting with the detective. So the reader feels like the detective and is learning things at the same rate as the detective.
My main point, good story, bad execution of telling it. Unfortunately this has to be a 3 star for me. It's okay, and wasn't my taste, but that isn't to say someone else won't love it.
I hope this review helps. Thank you NetGalley, One More Chapter, and Carissa Ann Lynch for the opportunity. I hope your book finds success.
Happy Reading and Blessed Be.

The Bachelorette Party by Carissa Ann Lynch is a riveting murder mystery set during a bachelorette weekend in New Orleans. The story follows Rosalee, the bride-to-be, and a diverse group of attendees as their celebration takes a dark turn when a game of truth or dare leads to murder. What sets this book apart is its unique narrative structure, with alternating chapters from different characters' perspectives, and the clever use of police interrogations to keep the victim's identity hidden. Lynch's storytelling prowess shines as she skillfully develops each character and weaves a suspenseful and engaging tale that will keep readers guessing until the very end. It's a must-read for mystery enthusiasts seeking a thrilling and well-crafted whodunit with a personal touch.
I would first like to thank NetGalley, Harper 360, and Carissa Ann Lynch for providing me with a copy of The Bachelorette Party for my honest review.
The Bachelorette Party is about well, a bachelorette party taking place in New Orleans. The story follows the bridal party through their celebrations of the upcoming wedding, leading up to the death of somebody in the house. Throughout the book, you do not know who died, or who the killer is.
As I was asked to give my honest review, I will say that when I began this book, I did not expect to like it. I’ve always disliked the New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme or aesthetic so when the setting of New Orleans was presented, I lost a bit of interest.
The story drew me in, learning about each member of the Bachelorette party, their secrets, and their lives. The author left off each chapter with a cliff hanger, making you want to continue reading.
I’ve read a lot of books where there’s a murder, and the entire book is describing the lives of the suspects and their motives for the murder until eventually the killer is revealed, and I’m generally disappointed because I am able to guess the killer about halfway through the book. However this book was different, not only did we not know who died, but even when it was revealed, every guess I had for who the killer was, was incorrect.
I am guilty of judging a book by it’s cover, so I was not immediately drawn to this book, but I’m grateful I was given the opportunity to read this book, as I was pleasantly surprised. I love when a book is able to surprise me, and when a mystery is able to stump me. This book is a great read and I would absolutely recommend you read it.
