There are gulfs of space in this cookbook where the lack of photography leaves something to be desired. Tacos can involve a lot of colorful ingredients that would make the pages of this book really pop. That being said, it's got some very useful and reliable recipes to help add something to a taco night beyond just cracking open a box of Ortega hard shell tacos and browning up some ground beef.
This truly does teach you how to make tortillas tacos enchiladas burritos etc from scratch which is wild to me who’s always store bought the tortillas lol so if you have the time and energy read this for making them from scratch and has recipes for filings too which is great.
Once I started browsing through this book I was motivated to give the recipes a try. I found the recipes easy to follow and my family totally approved of the final results.
I love tacos and I also love cookbooks, so you can't go wrong with this combination--many easy options to try. Thank you netgalley for the opportunity
A great selection of tortilla and taco recipes. There is something foe everyone. What I did not care for is the recipes without pictures. To me it is always essential to have a picture for every recipe. Otherwise good book!
This book turned out to be surprisingly delightful. I expected it to go straight to go into different recipes for different kinds of tacos, enchiladas, etc. What I found instead was a lot of pages devoted to how to make all of the components of a taco and related dishes - the tortillas themselves, an array of different kinds of fillings, sauces, and more. "Super East Tortilla and Taco Cookbook" seems to focus more on giving its readers a foundation in many of the essentials they they can explore and also mix and match as they please - someone I honestly appreciate the author for. quite a bit This recipe book seems like it would be just as helpful for someone just branching out into the realm of tortilla-based dishes for the first time as it would for more experienced home cooks who might feel a little two chained to specific recipes and are looking to develop a bit more versatility.
First up, thank you for allowing me to read this one. Sadly, it was just not a success. After 25 pages of just endless basics on how to prepare things, what to buy (things I cannot find in supermarkets or would have to search for intensively online (Amazon seems to have stuff at least)), then some more on what kind of tortillas you can make (including thankfully some flour tortillas as corn can be a bit iffy for me) with zero pictures or photographs, my ADHD mind was just floating out of the window and thinking of other more fun things to read. The tiny letters also didn't help me.
So I am DNF-ing this one and focussing on more interesting books!
I am currently in Mexico and am anxious try variations to cook for myself since ingredients are readily available here.
I really like the look of this recipe book. Not just the same old recipes you get everywhere.
The recipes break down all the ingredients and steps you need to make it easy to follow if you have never made anything like this before.
Certainly lots of different ideas here, I look forward to trying some out.
I would definitely get this for myself (much prefer a physical book when cooking) and recommend it to others.
Great pictures, tasty recipes. But, is it easy? The first part about making tortillas suggests buying a press and lists the equipment you'll need.
I think if it's something you're really keen on then it's a great book.
Super Easy Tortilla and Taco Cookbook has beautiful photographs, detailed instructions and some interesting twists and tips for making corn and flour tortillas. The recipes are clear and easy to follow, you may have the basic ingredients are already on your pantry, so it will easy to make a batch of tortillas and enjoy.
This book’s title is very accurate and lives up to its name when it says "super easy". This would be a good book for someone with minimal cooking experience, something to gift to a new cook. I liked the jokes and bits of history sprinkled in. It fell short for me on the recipes themselves because they all seemed very similar, just different variations of the next. I think for a beginner this is a good cookbook but if you’re already versed in the taco world, you'll find nothing new.
This is such a great collection of easy to follow, simple recipes that will make you crave tacos and tortillas! The pictures are really nice and I liked the overall style of the book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!
I'm loving the cheesy jokes sprinkled throughout the book. I became absolutely feral for Mexican food while flipping through this cookbook. My finger was bookmarking all of the recipes! I'm adding stuff to my grocery list. Honestly though, I have a lot of the ingredients. Maybe because I'm from Texas and live for Mexican food! The cookbook gives you all the basic parts to make the meal like the tortillas, beef filling, fajita meat, sauces etc. Then, the recipes pulls all those parts together by referencing those main parts. I kind of dig it, especially for finding ways to use up leftovers. I definitely plan on grabbing this one when it comes out.
My first thought when I saw this cookbook was YUM! I love Tacos, I love easy recipes and this really did have all I wanted.
The recipes are tasty, easy to use and follow, have ingredients that I can easily access and they are fun. I have never made my own tortillas and I look forward to trying this soon. They sound so easy. With so many recipes to choose from I will start at the beginning and work my way through. This book has it all from recipes for the tortillas to all the fillings, sauces, salsas and even deserts. YUM! There is no better description than that.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for giving me the opportunity to read and review this tasty and yummy cookbook.
This book is packed full of delicious recipes for those who love tacos! There are tasty recipes from chicken to beef brisket and pork. I really found the recipe for Creamy, Spicy, Maybe Sweet Slaw recipe with pineapple to be one I can't wait to try! The ingredients are simple and straightforward, and the spices used are ones already in the pantry. I would recommend this read!
I spent my summers growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which lead to a life-long love of all things tortilla and taco. As soon as I received this book I immediately made a mad dash to the grocery store.
I have never made a homemade tortilla even though I bought a tortilla press years ago promising myself I would make my own tortillas. To the shock of absolutely no one who has met me and seen my collection of random kitchen gadgets I have never used, I never used my tortilla press. Last night that changed with this cookbook leading the way for an amazing taco night.
I think my struggle has always been feeling that homemade tortillas would be difficult and not come out well. Searching online for recipes was information overload that just became overwhelming. I made corn tortillas and was shocked that it was far easier than I thought and I absolutely loved that I made delicious tortillas on the first try.
I tried a variety of fillings and toppings recipes for one of the best taco nights I have ever had. The sour cream enchilada sauce was my absolute favorite and it just became a staple recipe for me. I tried both the ground beef filling fajita chicken which were both some of the best taco fillings I have ever had.
I am so excited to continue working through this cookbook. Every single recipe looks delicious and reading them made me feel like I was back in Santa Fe.

This is not your menu from Taco Bell … but that is GOOD. As much as I love an occasional greasy trip via their drive-thru, if I ate that food on a regular basis, I would no longer have a GI tract. (To me, this is drunk food and I don’t get drunk!) This is some fresh and wonderful food that can easily be made if you have access to an international section of foods at your local grocery store. I actually find that the many, many Asian and South-Asian grocery stores where I live have a vast section of Latino-inspired ingredients. (My neighbours shop at an Indian grocery store for their Columbian recipe ingredients!)
But I hear that rice is going to be an issue due to India’s export ban of non-basmati rice which has caused riots in the USA with people trying to buy 80 or 100 50-lb bags of rice for their restaurants or personal use. Try Calrose (California since 1948) or short-grain or Basmati … I am sure that if you cannot find the rice recommended in these recipes you can make do. Be creative … unless it is baking, which is a science, recipes are easily adapted and jiggered as food is a craft.
I am massively allergic to cilantro (and parsley and coriander) so many of these recipes will have to be restructured for me with basil or some other herb but otherwise, I can see cooking about every single item in this book. And enjoying it.
Highly recommended … great healthy food --- maybe give a copy to your kid going off to college or university so that they don’t run out of food money by November 1st.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto publishing group for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
YUMMYYY. I don't know how help to describe this recipe book. From fajitas to tortillas to tacos. There are even recipes for desserts !! It looks time consuming to make but the recipes look easy enough to follow and I'm so impatient to try them.
Super Easy Tortilla and Taco Cookbook is a treasure trove of Mexican and Southwest cooking. I love that there are detailed instructions on making tortillas, equipment recommendations, etc for beginners. The author gets into different ways to add spices and other flavoring to different tortillas to change up the multitude of recipes already here.
There are recipes for fillings and sauces, quesadillas, tacos, nachos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, and salads. Everything from breakfast to cocktails to desserts. My favorite are the desserts of course, but I love the chalupas and quesadillas the best (of the non-dessert stuff).
I wish there were more pictures, but this is an excellent cookbook for anyone looking for a comprehensive Mexican tome! 😂
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
