A slight tale, slightly told, of two cats that might just as well be the mirror image of each other – even if they don't think so. They're all fine and dandy in their very different lives and oh so unique armchairs by the fire – until they're not, because their human has bought a "love seat". Can they possibly reconcile their huge differences and, dare I suggest it, share it? Now, I suppose in a way this shows the needless bickering of siblings, and of course cats, but the point is the new seat is not even symmetrical, so surely should have created more friction than it did. Any child can see this, and I dare say many children will rightfully expect more to come from that, however little they know about moggies to start with. For giving us half a story, three stars at most – I can't get further.
🛋️ I love the Dickensian title!
🛋️ This adorable book is all about finding common ground with others, even when you think you are nothing alike. The lesson is humorously told via the lives of two housecats who believe they have nothing in common and they definitely do NOT want to share with each other. However, circumstances force them to try something new and they find out that they aren’t so different after all, and that sharing wasn’t as bad as they originally thought.
🛋️ The illustrations are great and absolutely enhance the story.
🛋️ Young readers will love this delightful picture book and learn something too!
Thank you @NetGalley and Acorn Press for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
A beautiful tale (or should that be tail?) of two kitties that celebrate their differences.
Very nicely laid out with good and clear wording that doesn't seem oversimplified or babied for the age range.
Beautiful illustrations really bring this little short story to life.
A Tale of Two Kitties by Judith Graves - 5/5
Children's Fiction - Humor & Satire
A Tale of Two Kitties is a fun picture book for everyone of all ages. I read this book with my 5- and 8-year-old and we had a blast reading Mittens and Boots and how they have nothing in common but the things they did. The illustrations are simple but eye catching. I would purchase and recommend this story to others, so they too could enjoy a great story.
Thank you NetGalley and Acorn Press for the eARC.
Me and my children enjoyed this story with all the characters within. It about two cats ( Mittens and Boots) that have nothing in common. But when something happens to their chairs. Are they able to decide who is who.
This was a fun read. It had action throughout. The illustrations were quite colorful. My children like both of the kittens.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
Well, the rule is, if my kid asks me to read a book a second time, it’s an automatic 5-star! Which does skew the results in favor of any cat book, but…she’s asked FOUR TIMES. I am beginning to worry this one will wear out its welcome!
Now, this book has basically nothing to do with “A Tale of Two Cities,” even as an affectionate homage. So don’t expect any Dickensian notes. Instead, this is just about two orange brothers who are very, very jealous of their belongings. There is to be NO switching of who sleeps on which chair!
Until the chairs disappear.
And a loveseat appears.
Whatever are they to do!? Surely they cannot sleep on the SAME piece of furniture! They may touch! Or even…shudder…CUDDLE.
It’s short, it’s cute, it’s got cats. 5 stars. :D
Advanced reader copy provided by the publisher.
Thank you so much to Acorn Press and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Mittens and boots may live together but having nothing in common at all, they aren’t even friends but maybe they might find one thing in common when a new item enters their house.
This was a funny little story and I loved the illustrations through the story they were so bright and bold and beautiful to look at. Mittens and Boots were really funny as they were actually quite similar but refused to believe it, it was a funny story.
There were parts of the story that felt a bit confusing and made the story lose its rhythm a little bit and the ending was almost added without anything explaining it, just right there and then done. Which was a shame it would have been funnier seeing how the new addition found it’s way to fitting in.
This is a whimsical and funny story and I liked it, if you are a cat lover you’ll certainly love this story these cats were captured purrfectly and were adorable. It’s a cute picture book.
"Tale of Two Kitties" by Judith Graves is a delightful children's story that beautifully captures the essence of two distinct yet harmonious feline characters. Through clever wordplay and charming storytelling, Graves weaves a heartwarming narrative that celebrates both individuality and connection. The book's pretty illustrations complement the text perfectly, engaging young readers and enhancing their imaginative journey. This enchanting tale not only entertains but also imparts valuable lessons about embracing differences and finding common ground. A must-read for any young audience seeking a heartening and visually captivating experience.
This book was so cute! The two kittens, Mittens and Boots, started out not getting along, but on a journey through experimenting with different napping locations, they discovered they only liked sleeping on the Love Seat - and became best friends! Very straightforward, well illustrated, and a fun book to flip through. A great debut!
Princess Fuzzypants here: Adorable. That is what this book is. Adorable. The story is very cute too. Two kitties who think they are not alike at all and begrudgingly share the same home learn, much to their astonishment, that not only are they alike but they enjoy being close to one another.
There is lovely humour in the tale and some very sweet artwork. This would be a fantastic bedtime story or a great book for young readers. I loved it. Five purrs and two paws up.
Author/illustrator Judith Graves creates a delightful tale about the unexpected joys of sharing in “A Tale of Two Kitties.” Orange kitties Mittens and Boots share a house and a human, but not much else. One day their beloved arm chairs are replaced by a single loveseat! Will conflict ensue or will Mittens and Boots learn to share their space?
The text is easy to understand, but has humor that adults will appreciate. The illustrations are simple, but capture the essence of Mittens and Boots. Overall, this book is a joy to read!
This book is great for young children learning about sharing or for cat lovers of any age.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book provided by NetGalley and the publisher, Acorn Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love the fun, bright colored illustrations in this book and the story of two cats that learn to be friends as well as housemates. But the text of the book to lack flow. It was scattered and a bit confusing. The adorable illustrations go a long way to make up for this.
I love books about cats and I'm adding this one to the list. I loved it and I can see my little patrons at the library loving it as well!
This is a really cute book. I like the concept of it and the art style was cute. Playing with the same but different concept was clever but I can see it going over younger ones heads.
As a former storytime librarian and lover of all things cats and kittens, I thought "A Tale of Two Kitties" by Judith Graves was super cute and easily adaptable for being read aloud to a group of children. Illustrations are crucially important in picture books, and I loved how these were simple, yet engaging, and provided opportunities to ask a wide range of questions to compare/contrast the kittens. Throughout the story there are chances to discuss important concepts such as opposites and sharing, along with fun cat wordplay like "PURRcision" and "FURgotten." Cat naps may be calling, but don't sleep on this book!
5 Stars
This book regarding two cats that are nothing alike, but maybe they really are was so awesome. The humor of it was spot on regarding cats personalities and the silly things they do. I really think that kids will get a kick out of this book and really enjoy it. My favorite part of the book was the page showing off the dream nap spot, this was great. I also really loved the play on words such as FURniture.
The illustrations of this book were very fun. It's a bit of a unique style but I thought it fit this story perfectly and I really loved all the details shown.
Thank you to NetGalley and Acorn Press for this advanced ready copy of this book. My review is voluntarily my own.
