This was such a great read. Kendall is a bookworm who is so critical of herself but is such a relatable character. She has an instant connection with Vincent, a excellent basketball player.

The story spoke about miscommunication and typical school struggles. I felt like we didn’t delve too deep into the characters’ background, but Kendall and Vincent’s connection made up for this.

If you’re after a quick and easy read, this is definitely one that I recommend.

A spicy, funny, college, (kind of) sports romance! Definitely one that worth picking up from Kindle Unlimited, but maybe not a must buy physically to read. You could fully read this in one or two sittings and have a lovely time.

I was kicking my little legs and giggling pretty much the whole time I was reading this book. Basically, if you have a few hours and want some spice and a little pining and plot, pick this one up!

3/5 ⭐️ Great banter, funny, cute and quick.

2.5/5 🌶️ I can't really say that the spice was memorable, just that these college kids were pretty horny.

What to Expect
✨ College romance
✨ Miscommunication trope
✨ Bookworm FMC
✨ Athlete MMC
✨ First time
✨ Insta-love/attraction

What I Liked
I was sucked in to Kendall and Vincent's conversations, I couldn't help it. The teasing was excellent, the banter was great. The poetry reading and how Vincent opens up throughout the book was so adorable. It was also very funny at times (and VERY relatable for bookish girlies):
"This is the most embarrassing cover I've ever seen."
"The sticker says it's only a dollar," her friend points out.
"Yeah, because it's garbage."
"So, you're not getting it?"
"Of course I'm getting it."

What I Didn't Like
Kendall is a bookworm, just like us. Great, right? This was like reading about a main character who knew she was in a book. She compared everything happening in her life to books and several times would do things "for the plot" (that was actually said). It was weird and felt like it broke the fourth wall. She supposedly hates the miscommunication trope (don't we all), but then couldn't stop herself from falling victim to it several times, sigh.

Night Shift is a steamy and fun new adult romance.

If you are looking for an easy and fast steamy romp, then check this book out. It was so easy to fall into this story and let the world disappear around me. I read it in one sitting and loved every moment I spent with these characters and the plot. One of the things that I loved most about this book was all the wonderful romance book references. Reading this book felt like a love letter to all those romance bookworms out there. Kendall is a huge romance book nerd. Oftentimes, in this book, she is viewing her world and her interactions with others, especially Vincent, as if she were the heroine in her own romance story. There are so many wonderful references to the romance genre, its tropes, and even those cheesy romance covers that we love and sometimes hate. Getting to spend time with someone who gets your passion is incredible. It made me fall in love with Kendall and her story even more.

I don’t read college contemporary romances too often; they aren’t my thing. But really enjoyed this one. Everything happening in this book just clicks with me. I loved all the conversations between the characters. They were fun, witty, and just felt real to me. I was able to connect with a lot of the characters, especially Kendall. Her passion for reading, her insecurities, and her shyness just made her feel like a kindred spirit to me. Her experiences and fears are so relatable, and I loved the sense of realism that they brought to this story. Vincent’s character was not what I was expecting it to be. I thought he would be this cocky broody alpha male character, and while he does at times give off those broody vibes at times, he’s really shy and a bit insecure. I really enjoyed that unexpected twist in his character. The story is told solely from Kendall’s POV, so we don’t get to see what is going on in his head, and that adds this layer of mystery to his character.

This is an insta love or lust story. They both can feel that crackling, steamy tension between them. Annie does a fabulous job at writing some spicey scenes that are sure to get your pulse racing. Another great thing about this book is that consent plays a huge part in the physical relationship between Kendall and Vincent. Vincent always ensures Kendall is okay and willing to wait until she is ready. I loved how the physical relationship was handled in this book. There is plenty of miscommunication between these two, which creates a lot of hurdles that they have to overcome to become a couple.

Night Shift is a steamy and satisfying book that I will be reading again and again.

Kendall Holiday is your stereotypical shy girl; works at a library, prefers to stay home rather than party, only experiences romance through smutty books. That is, until her college's star basketball player, Vincent Knight, shows up and asks for her help.

This book was so cute! The spice was gorgeous, Vince is unbelievably hot, and Kendall is self-aware in the best kind of way. The only real problem I had with this was that Kendall specifically mentions how much she dislikes the miscommunication trope, yet that's the route that Crown decided to go -_-
Overall, I really liked this!

This is a new adult college read. Set mostly in the library the heroine is a girl right after my own heart. There is nothing better than getting lost in a good romance even better if you can get away with reading while working.
The chemistry is electric between the two main characters. I was really rooting for them even if there were some miscommunication issues.

Wow!! This is the cutest book I ever read!! I flew through the pages! So addictive, fast paced and entertaining!! I loved it!! The banter had me giggling and kicking my feet 🤭🤭😍

College sport romances? bookworm & basketball captain? Fast burn? Sweet and spicy?? ITS SO PERFECT!!

Kendall & Vincent!!
I am so in love with Vincent knight!! He’s so charming, whitty & a complete soft boy. he reads the books she loves and memorizes poetry. He’s so gentle and understanding.
Kendall I kept saying she was me the whole time. I really felt like the author was calling me out in so many scenes omg!! She’s a hopeless romantic, an overthinker, her own self sabotager but I loved her growth. I just love them so much!! 😭😭

I’m not a huge fan of miscommunication and fast burn/ insta love but I think the author made it work for the story and I actually didn’t mind it!! I do wish we had more depth to the characters because it felt a little surface level. Overall, such a good read!! I had the best time!!

The romance was a little bit rushed for me, it felt like they just saw each other and wanted to kiss.
I liked the misunderstanding that happens kind of at the beginning of the book, which involves also a book, it felt kind of cute but at the same time childish?? But it is good that it is brought up almost at the end, I just really liked that.

The things happening with this book are kind of crazy I felt like it was a fever dream at times, also I felt the characters didn't have like more hobbies that people could see, for example, you could say someone liked something but it wasn't ever knowledged again which was weird.

The thing with the book is that you get to the end and realize that the author knows what the book wants to be, which is a not realistic book that is mostly written and carried by the tropes, which can be good at times, but sometimes it felt kind of flat

Opposites attract and sizzle in the stacks of the library in this easy breezy romcom that will delight any fan of the genre.

Kendall is a fan of romance novels. She knows all the tropes and still can’t seem to get her love life going. In walks basketball star Vincent into her library job and all bets are off. The chemistry is easy but the miscommunication is not.

This was a fun read and I recommend it to anyone who just wants a good time.

5 stars!

I absolutely devoured this book. If I didn't have to sleep, I would have completed it in one sitting. This book had me hooked from beginning to end.

The bookish girl catching the eye of the sweet sports hunk had my heart gushing the whole time. Vincent doing the most and keeping Kendall honest and open was a thrill to watch. Vincent trying so hard to like literature simply because Kendall does was THE cutest thing.

There was a bit of the miscommunication trope at play here, but I didn't think it was too bad. It was important for the plot and I think it was honest to how someone in college might feel.

I was cheering for them the whole time.

And the spice? Perfection. Not to mention this book is set at a school? Perfect. AND I was laughing out loud? Literally couldn't be better.

If you are in the mood for a quick, dirty, college read, this book is absolutely it!

This was a really quick and easy read for me. I devoured it in less than 24 hours. It read like a mature YA book for me (but is not YA at all.. there is some spice in this one), but the characters are also college aged. I enjoyed bookworm Kendall and how she thought in book terms and compared everything to book tropes. I’m not usually a fan of instant lovers, but it worked for this book. I wish it had a little more character development. The miscommunication theme was strong in this book, but again, college aged characters! If you’re looking for an easy book with some spice to clear your head, this would be a good choice. It’s not one I’d actively purchase though.

If you’re wondering if I cried reading this, I SURE DID! Was it sad?! Not in the slightest…BUT some of the scenes were so cute and gave me so much nostalgia of being in college and feverishly reading @wattpad story after story in to the wee hours of the night!! Also I could not put my kindle down when I was reading it. It’s definitely an easy read in one day compulsive read

I’m not sure what was my favorite part
1.) The FMC working in a library and being a bookworm
2.) The TALL, DARK, AND HANDSOME MMC who’s the star basketball player
3.)The immediate insta-love (I hate the waiting of a slow burn)
4.) The FMC’s bff/roommates’ bond
5.) The banter between the main characters
6.) THE SWOONY YET SMUTTY SMUT💕
7.) THE “TUTORING”
8.) The tall FMC rep (I feel like most FMC are always 5 ft and under. This one was 5’ 11”)👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
9.) THE DANG WHOLE BOOK👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

If you are a New Adult/College Romance lover or ever had (or still have like me🤭) a “Wattpad phase” this one is for you….AND IT’S NOT A PHASE😂😂😂

Great Banter

Kendall is a 21 years old Collage student.
She is a hopeless romantic, nerd, and avid reader. She love the quiet life especially her nights at the library.
She is anxious most of her time but tired of living her life inside the books just day dreaming and wants to go outside of her comfort zone.
So when Vincent Knight the star of the Clement's basketball team ,  check in to the library and things lead to a make out session Kendall is hopeful that things will turn out good for her eventually but as always dreams don't come true easily.

This was a cute and spicy read . I think if I would have read it back when I was 20 I would have enjoyed it more so I recommend this book for girls who are still in their 20s . However, I liked it it was light funny at times and hopeful and full of spice for those who like it.

Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of #NightShift in exchange for my honest review

I loved this book so much. I loved the yearning/pining and the way it portrays messy, complicated college/university age feelings so well. I loved Kendall from the beginning. I loved how she hid behind romance books and tropes to hide her fear of facing her emotions head on. And wow to Vincent - what a wonderful hero. Gorgeous and sweet and not as confident as he makes out. I loved the angst, and although I was frustrated at times that Kendall’s insecurities got the better of her, it was understandable given the circumstances.

The romance is achingly sweet, the spice is so well written and I was fully invested from
The beginning. A completely absorbing, utterly gorgeous, crazily romantic book. Just blissful.

What a wonderful story that delves into romance novel tropes with a wonderfully sweet relationship, and some classic miscommunication. I loved how the author explores romance as a genre, acknowledging its many pitfalls and also what makes it so popular among so many of us as a genuine art form. This college romance was definitely imperfect, but it made me genuinely laugh out loud so many times and reminded me of the romance that can be found in reality, not just books. Would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a humorous, light read.

Extremely extremely short like read within an hour max?? Extremely low stakes little romance. Really didn’t love it, felt like the characters were not fleshed out at all and overall really lacked depth. Was also extremely insta love vibes like it felt like the characters had maybe 5 actual conversations and then suddenly were in love? Very weird felt like a short story

This was a super cute book! Some of the moments had me cringing at how awkward young love can be at times but Kendall and Vincent were adorable and awkward and I loved every minute of it. Kendallville perfectly naive with her lovely little romance books and adorably awkward with her does he like me does he not? It did get a tad annoying how everytime something happened she thought he had ulterior motives but I also liked how he ultimately called her out on it. After the first time she should have just known! And Vincent was adorable how he kept trying with him and getting to hear things from Jabari made me wish we would have gotten some of Vincent's pov but overall this was a super cute read!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: several open door scenes
TWs: this was pretty clean (in terms of warnings) with no memorable TWs for me
standalone: yes
final thoughts: This was cute and fun had me giggling the whole time. It was adorable and surprisingly steamy with some hot scenes with praise and dirty talking that I was NOT expecting. The FMC is a virgin who has never even kissed someone and lets the MC “teach” her all her firsts which was sweet but at times they definitely read a lot younger than college aged. I loved the trope talk throughout the book which lead the FMC (who hates miscommunication) to ultimately confront her anxieties and speak to the MC which was a fun take on miscommunication. i loved the feelings from this book and would definitely read more from this author

The Night shift was cute. It was originally Fan fic and it still reads like it, but its a good fluffy fun read. Kendall (FMC) can be very dense for someone who is so smart when it comes to both friendships and relationships. Vincent is awkward but sweet, however is too much a characture of a real boy.

Overall it was fun quick read but is more of a borrow vs buy

Short and sweet! I didn’t realize this was a Wattpad book but that did not deter me. It was a cute young adult read that I think would market better to teens 14-16.
