Description
A sweet encounter between a bookworm and a basketball player turns steamy in the stacks after hours . . .
Kendall Holiday spends her Fridays exactly where she wants to be: ensconced in a romance novel in an empty college library working the graveyard shift. The quiet of the library is dependable, and gives Kendall an excellent excuse for skipping out on the loud, raucous start to the weekend. Lost in the pages of her favorite love stories, Kendall blocks out the world—until Vincent Knight, the school’s star basketball player, turns up.
Handsome, tall, and extremely popular, Vincent’s a standout on the court, but he’s out of his depth in the stacks: he’s got an urgent assignment due and doesn’t have a clue where to start. When his meet-cute with Kendall turns into a steamy make-out session, neither are quite prepared for what comes next.
Opposites might attract in romance novels . . . but it takes a lot more truth than tropes to make it work in real life.

Marketing Plan
My muscles flutter, my abs contract, and my hips buck up against Vincent’s hands. But he holds steady, an immovable wall of muscle and bone. I’m pinned. I have nowhere to go. And there’s a tide rising in me, threatening to wash me right over the edge of something enormous and a little bit terrifying. I grab at Vincent’s wrist, not sure if I’m trying to pull his hand away (to tell him that something is building and that the magnitude of it scares me) or if I’m trying to hold him closer (because I think I might actually kill him if he stops what he’s doing).
“Don’t fight it,” he murmurs. “You’re okay.”
“Vincent,” I say, and it’s a warning—or maybe a plea. I can’t tell.
“I’ve got you, Kendall,” he says. “Come.”
He presses his mouth to my center again and sucks hard.
The knot inside me pulls tight and, in one burst, comes undone. My eyelids flutter. My mouth falls open. I dig my fingernails into Vincent’s skin and hair, tensing involuntarily as I gasp for air. And then the pressure moves through me, like a wave in a storm, leaving behind slack muscles and oversensitive nerves. I shiver and sob beneath him, but Vincent doesn’t let up. He keeps pressing, pumping, sucking at me until I’m pressing at his head and begging, in a mess of words I can’t even untangle, to have mercy.
The mattress dips and bounces, and then Vincent’s up above me again and pressing a kiss to my mouth. I’m too dazed to do anything but mimic him, my tongue clumsy and my breathing still quick. When he pulls back to look at me, his eyes—the warmest shade of brown—are sparkling with something like triumph and wonder.
I feel more than pretty.
I feel like the fucking main character.

I was obsessed with this book when it was on Wattpad, and I will continue to be obsessed with this book long after I get my little hands on a physical copy of Night Shift. It is the comfort read of all comfort reads.
It is your quintessential first year college sports romance done SO WELL. Kendell is a quiet and shy book worm that works the night shift at her university library. Vincent is the star of the basketball team who comes in late one night and needs a poetry book recommendation for his english class. I can honestly say this is the only book I have ever read where it features some miscommunication and I didn't want to throw it through the wall because it was done so well.
I loved Kendell's character - I feel like her personality, insecurities and nuances were so realistically written for the stage of her life in the book - and her growth is messy and real and just so authentic. I would frankly crawl on broken glass for Vincent, and he should be voted for prez.
Other than my love for the main characters, Annie wrote side characters that you'll also fall in love it. So can we please get a Harper and Jabari book!!!!!!!!! (my one christmas wish)
Thank you Annie Crown and the publisher for the ARC. Easiest 5 starts ever. This made my week!!
I was completely enamored with this book feom the start. The fmc? A smutty romance reader? Helloooo!?!??! I AM HER! SHE IS MEEEEE!!! this here book had me screaming, giggling, squeeling. And kicking my feet while reading. Vincent is THE book boyfriend. You tellin me all i gotta do to get a man like that is work at a library?!?!? DONE DONE DINE! this book was so well written and had me screaming like a school girl in love that my dad was concerned with the noises coming from my room. This book completely deserves all the recognition it has plus 293839392929 times more. This is now one of my favorites and they dont lie when they say the cartoon book covers be the spiciest!!!
I WILL be buying a physical copy to go on my shelf <3 1000000 stars out of 5!!!
First off thank you Annie and NetGalley for the ARC, I could not be more grateful and secondly I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
OMG, when I tell you I couldn’t put this down I mean it! I want everything Kendall and Vincent have, The way it was realistically written and the meaningful spice and miscommunication made it so much more relatable as a reader.
I love how Kendall relates back to her own romance books and the tropes that they entail (just like I do haha.) I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author!!
Omg I finished this book in two hours I literally could not stop (also helps that it’s 2am) but I loved every second!
The fmc was so relatable and funny and the mmc was also so loveable and they were perfect.
This is a perfect contemporary romance read, it’s short and easy to read and the banter between them is just perfect🩷
The fmc is a romance reader and she was so relatable in every way. Even the small miscommunication trope was understandable cause I probably would have thought the same way as her but seeing how they both communicated their feelings and talked stuff out made this a 5⭐️
I loved Night Shift! Such a fun, quick, spicy read. It was a nice change to read a basketball romance when I’ve been reading so many hockey romances. The chemistry between Kendall and Vincent was perfect and we are always here for an introverted bookish girl.
I can’t wait to read more by Annie Crown.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Talk about cute Ya rom com, definitely loved the whole vibe and setting, super easy fun read it. Love the characters and how the story develops
Kendall Holiday spends her Friday nights working the nightshift at the university library instead of partying with her friends. This gives her plenty of time to catch up on her smutty books in a quiet space with no one to bother her. That is until the star basketball player, Vincent Knight, shows up needing her help with poetry recommendations. After a spicy moment in the back of the library, Kendall finds herself falling fast and fearing that this relationship may not be like the ones in her romance novels.
I really enjoyed this book and loved these characters! I laughed throughout the book and the miscommunication between the characters was such an accurate representation of college relationships. I loved all the book trope references, and how two people living completely different lifestyles were able to build a relationship together in a very Rom-Com type of way. I highly recommend this book.
LOVED this from beginning to end. cannot wait for what annie crown does! this was like reading a REALLY good fic that i would desperately wait weeks and weeks on end for an update for. read it in one sitting. 10/10 had so much fun reading this
tropes:
🌷book lover x sports player
🌷opposites attract
🌷tutoring trope
It took me a little while to put this review together, solely because I was struggling to put into words how much I enjoyed this book. Night Shift was an enjoyable and fast paced romance (with very good spice👀) that I found really easy to follow.
Victor is the definition of a golden retriever boyfriend and Kendall is a romantic and head strong female main character that I easily related to from the start. And you know as a book lover, reading a sports romance that involves a fellow book lover is just 🤌🏻
The couples story is adorable without leaning too far into unbelievably sappy - and harbours actual realistic characters (a real winner for me). Honestly my only negative takeaway from this book was that I wanted MORE, which as far as book reviews go is actually very high praise. If you enjoy shorter and swoon worthy romance books then I highly recommend Night Shift ✨🫶🏻
Thank you to Annie Crown for sending me an advanced copy of this book before its paperback release next month, is it acceptable for me to request a sequel? 👀
What a cute and fun read! I can definitely see why this book is a TikTok sensation. My patrons will eat this one up!
Thank you to NetGalley & Kindle Edition for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Omg, did I love this sweet college romance! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book before with a FMC who was an avid reader. I saw so much of myself in Kendall, which made me love this story even more.
Kendall is happy to spend her Friday nights taking the over night shift at her college library, rather than getting dressed up and heading out to party like everyone else at school. In the library she feels safe surrounded by books, where she can spend the late evenings cozied up in her latest romance novel.
But her life turns into a real life romance novel when Vincent the star of the college basketball team strolls in during her shift one Friday evening. After she walks him upstairs to the corner with British poetry, things begin to heat up and they hook up. But after a few miscommunications, a birthday party gone wrong, and Kendall doubting that Vincent could ever desire her, things are a mess.
Before we’re delivered their happily ever after, we see two individuals change and grow into the people they both need most. Watching their relationship come to fruition felt very real, and let’s be honest the spice was just too good.
If your someone who loves to get lost in the pages of a good romance book, you have to pick this one up. It’ll have you finally feeling seen!!! Also, would love to mention I totally could see this book becoming a series where we get to see the rest of their friend group find love. Hint hint: first up can we have Jabari and Harper’s story please?!
I freaking loved this book! I am so sad it was so short. But it's okay. It was worth it!
I love the growth of both characters and holy moly... the spice. Was freaking fantastic! Such a great book. I already want to read it again.
Absolutely so cute! The cover is the first thing that grabbed my attention but once I started reading I couldn’t put it down! So relatable and honestly had me in stitches at some points! 100% recommend!
This was SO CUTE. I honestly am not usually the biggest fan of college romance. For me, it’s too close to YA, and it just doesn’t do it for me.
This though, I loved the pacing, and the way the main character was self aware about the tropes she was falling in to. That will probably annoy some readers, but I loved it. I wish we’d had even more interactions with the roommates and the other side characters, but it seems like they’re getting their own books, so we’ll probably see more of them there. The spice was super spicy, and actually took up a good percentage of the book. I enjoyed that it was so consent based, and that there was so much focus on mutual enjoyment.
Overall, very much a win, and I’m thankful to NetGalley and the author for the chance to read this before it comes out!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the free copy in exchange for a review!
Genre: Romance
Age Range: NA
So as a college student, I love reading books with settings in college and this book was no exception to my love for the genre.
Things I loved about this book:
1. Kendall's love of reading - I love MCs who love reading because I can relate and Kendall's love of fictional characters was such a great addition to her character.
2. Vincent's attitude and the way he treated Kendall - He was so sweet with her and it made my heart melt the whole book.
3. The Friendships - I loved every single friendship in this book - I loved how real they all felt and I wanted to be a part of their group.
Love, Love, Love! I can't wait to see what else this author comes up with! 10/10 amazing! I truly enjoyed this story so much.
THIS is how you write a college romance!
Equal parts swoony and sweet, Night Shift by Annie Crown is an absolute delight of a book. The characters of Kendall and Vincent feel so authentic to college aged kids, the play on common book tropes throughout the story were hysterical, and after several less than fantastic reads—it made me excited to read again.
Loved this book!! It’s serving Sex Lives of College Girl vibes! There were some genuinely funny parts and super cute romance sections. It was also perfectly steaming! I think this is my favorite NetGalley advance I’ve gotten so far!
I received an advance review copy from @wbywattpadbooks on @netgalley for my honest review. I knew from the moment I saw the cover and read the synopsis that I would LOVE this book, and I was right!
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! It’s one of those stories that just sticks with you. Kendall is an introverted, in-her-head bookworm that I think we can all relate to in some way or another. I love that she lives her life through the pages of her favorite romance books and gets stuck in her least favorite tropes. It’s not long until you’re rooting for her to find her happily ever after.
Oh what can I say about Vincent Knight? I have a soft spot for misunderstood MMC’s and he worked his way right into my heart. He knows what he wants but is unsure of how to get it. His vulnerability is totally endearing. And when these two get together?! Fireworks.
If you’re a fan of Meagan Brandy’s “Say You Swear,” Elle Kennedy’s “The Deal,” or “Icebreaker” by Hannah Grace—you’re going to want to add this book to your TBR! Currently available on Kindle Unlimited and coming to paperback November 14th!

Absolutely loved every part of this book. Great storyline great characters and the writing was outstanding
I devoured this book to the point that I didn’t want to go to sleep because I needed to see what happened between Kendell and Vincent. Annie Crown killed it writing Night Shift and I am still obsessed with it. Kendell, our lovable, smutty bookworm works the Friday night shift at the 24-hour library on campus because she doesn’t like people only to have the star basketball player come to her during her shift and ask for help with a poetry assignment. Naturally, they have to go to the stacks away from prying eyes and things get heated against the bookshelves.
Both Kendell and Vincent brought personality and amazing witty banter to the table. I loved the romance trope nods throughout the book getting called out in a way that felt funny and organic and not forced. I could honestly go on for ages about how much I love Night Shift, but I think romance lovers who like their spice should just enjoy it for themselves.
Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad Webtoon Book Group for the advanced copy of Night Shift. I adored reading this book so much.
I SWOONED SO HARD. Really. This book played out every fantasy I've had about finding a man in a library. God, Kendall and Vincent are amazing and their chemistry is through the damn roof. I cannot stop thinking about this book, it has consumed every romantic fibre of my body. I NEED MORE.

"Then for the sake of being direct,” he says, “I can’t stop being thinking about you, Kendall. And I’ve read every goddamned poem Elizabeth Barrett Browning ever wrote. In three weeks. For fun.”
"You’re not grand gesturing me, Holiday. Not on my watch.”
This checked all the boxes in every way. First off the bookworm vibes and book talk was everything I needed and Kendall was such a relatable character. I felt like my thoughts lined up with hers perfectly. Vincent freaking Knight! He was a top tier book boyfriend and I couldn’t ask for anyone better. He validated Kendall’s feelings and he could see right through her. Like he is everything I need and want in a man. Also Kendall’s friends Nina and Harper — I seriously wanted to be friends with them! They have a bond like no other and they had their moments but them making up made my heart melt. The ending was absolutely perfect and I will always hold it close to my heart
Thank you netgalley & Annie Crown for the arc! One of my new favorites!
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the chance to read Night Shift! This was a totally adorable book! It was so easy to relate to Kendall for me, quiet nights at home and books are my hobby. I’m not a fan of characters falling in love so early but it totally worked and Kendall’s friends are so funny! Vincent came across as grumpy and rude in the beginning but by the end of the book was giving off book boyfriend vibes. Quick and easy read and would definitely recommend!
Night Shift by Annie Crown checks all the boxes - sports romance, witty banter, excellent communication between characters, fantastic spice, and beautiful character growth. Following Kendall and Vincent put my emotions through the ringer in the best possible way. I laughed with them, cried with them, giggled over them, started sweating and made sure no one was reading over my shoulder....
This was such a feel good read. It had everything I was looking for and more, and there's no doubt it'll be a fan favourite.
This book was so cute! I was giggling like a little kid & my feet were doing the kickies while I was reading this. I could not get enough!!
Night Shift is about our main character Kendall, who prefers to work Friday nights at the library rather than go out to parties. On one night shift while Kendall is reading a spicy novel, the school's star basketball player Vincent comes in and ask for her help locating a poetry book, which ends in a steamy make out session in between the isles of books.
I can't stop talking about how amazing this book is. I loved everything about it. The main character was relatable, the romance was both cute and spicy & I was invested right from the beginning. The pacing of the story is perfect, I could not put the book down! I was even invested in the side characters too.
I will seriously be re-reading this book whenever I'm in a bad mood, and will be picking up anything else Annie Crown decides to write. Can't recommend this enough!

listen yall, I finished this book 5 days ago and I’m still thinking about it!!
It’s got the athlete and the bookworm, flirting in the library, and the spice!!!! it’s fun, it’s cute, and such a quick read because you simply cannot put it down.
Kendall works the library night shift when Vincent, the university’s top basketball player, needs to check out a book. 👀👀
Tutoring, poetry, books, and sports, and most importantly the ROMANCE- this was everything I was looking for!!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

I absolutely devoured this book! It was sweet and sexy. I wholeheartedly related to the main character as an introverted bookworm & i just know everyone is going to adore her!
Vincent is swoon-worthy and one of the best book boyfriends I've read in a while. Prepare to fall in love with him!!
This is the perfect palate cleanser! It was a quick read, had witty banter, and lots of pop culture references that I enjoyed. And all of the references about literature and book lovers in general had me grinning!! Please read this book! 🥹❤️

“I want to wrap him up in a blanket and keep him here forever.” - (me too)
New book boyfriend alert: Vincent Knight!!
Okay, maybe it’s because I related a lot to the main character Kendall, or maybe I was just in desperate need of a cute romance, but I loved this book.
“Reading is so much fun, but I’m tired of feeling like all the best parts of my life have been lived inside my own head.” - (this struck a little too close to home)
This college romance was cute, funny, and surprisingly had a lot of heart to it. It reminded me of my college days working in the tutoring center, hanging out with friends and falling in love. Like I said, I really related to Kendall and her relationship with Vincent. There were certain moments where I was like - wait, is this fucking book about me? 😂 But alas, my college boyfriend (now turned husband) was not a Division I basketball player, although he was in STEM so hey - there’s one similarity.
I think what I loved the most was how imperfect the characters were and how realistic their romance was. Sometimes we overthink things and situations and we don’t know how to make our feelings heard, but that’s just part of life and growth, and that’s okay. While there was a bit of the miscommunication trope in this book, I liked that it was acknowledged by the characters and it was improved upon.
“The thing is, I don’t read romance novels for the realism. I read them because they make me feel seen and heard as a woman.” - 🙌
Things I loved:
🏀 College sports romance
🏀 Popular guy x shy girl
🏀 Anxiety representation
🏀 Bookworm representation
🏀 Vincent 🫠
If you're looking for plot. This is not the place to find it. Hilariously, that is not a problem for me.
I loved this book. I found it endearing and engaging and adorable and emotional. What this book lacks in plot it really makes up in really deep character work, and Grade-A sex scenes. Like I am a sex scene hater and these made me giggle and swoon. Every moment of these scenes is played out and it's so charming and fun.
I related so much to Kendall with her love of the quiet and insecurity at parties, and her reading of spicy novels. I loved Vincent for his golden retriever energy, his ability to laugh, and the way he's so for Kendall. Their interactions and banter were absolutely iconic, and the story really encapsulates that young first college love.
So fun. So cute. So SPICY. And I loved every minute of it.
Night Shift is everything I wanted it to be and more. This book was incredible, and I’m so glad that I stumbled upon it on NetGalley and was selected to receive a digital ARC!
From the cover to Annie Crown’s exceptional writing, I was completely enthralled with this right from the start. I loved how cheeky this story was (it almost felt like it was breaking the forth wall at times) and just how sweet yet steamy the romance got between Kendall and Vincent. I couldn’t get enough of their playful banter, as well as all the trope callouts and book references sprinkled throughout their story. I honestly wish I could’ve lived in this forever.
This really pulled every heartstring in my hopeless romantic’s heart, and I seriously can’t recommend Night Shift enough! I’ll definitely be picking up a physical copy once it hits shelves, and have so much love for Annie Crown for this. She has a certified new fan on her hands.
I’m gonna start off by saying I teared up at the end when I realized with first and last line of this novel are the same and the meaning behind it all is so beautiful and meaningful after reading their story!
I love and appreciate how this book is aware of bookish things and ties in all sorts of things into it! Like talking about how we hate the miscommunication trope and it’s the worst, or having a character scared to go after what they want when we (the reader) know they will be together, having to avoid the pregnancy trope (lol), and the stigma around reading romance books and loving them but not always wanting those things in real life. It was just so cute and fun to read! I loved both Vincent and Kendall so much and how they were around each other. Their banter was sooooo good and had me hooked from the start! I loved reading a college aged romance, and it was fun how it involved a bookworm and an athlete but wasn’t snobbish or stereotypical. They were so sweet with each other and talked things out and worked for what they wanted (each other).
I loved her friends and how they played a part in it and were very likable and realistic (showed how they were all different and collided at times). This is probably the best book I’ve read this month so far and I just LOVE it! I’m so obsessed with this book I just know I’ll read whatever she comes I with next! Will definitely be rereading I can tell already.
100% yes. Annie Crown wasted no time with this one. It was chapter three and things were already taking off... and I was NOT complaining!!
Vincent is my new book boyfriend crush. I love the way he's so attentive to her interests and takes the time to dive into a world that she loves. He's respectful, athletic, TALL, and a sweet talker. Come on, what more do you need?
This story is short and quick, which was exactly what I was looking for when it comes to a pallet cleanser. I have been reading a lot of different genres and this romance was a solid choice to get me ready for spooky season. The quick meet cute in the library, tutoring sessions, working while in school, this took me back and made me feel like I was actually living this life. I was picturing my own campus and my own characters because the story felt so familiar and safe.
Annie Crown - I will read whatever you write, especially if it involves references to Troy Bolton and making fun of tall girls in bodysuits. :)
I absolutely devoured this book! It was fast-paced, engaging, and so adorable. It’s been taking me longer to read books lately because I’ve been busy, but I finished this in 2 nights! Vincent was an absolute sweetheart and Kendall was so relatable. The tension, banter, and humor in this book was so high, it was amazing. Overall, this was an adorable palate cleanser, and such a great read for someone in a reading slump. Highly recommend!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was sooo good! I devoured it in 3 hours/one sitting! The story was cute, the pace was fast and kept me interested! A good balance of light hearted romance writing and spicy scenes! Loved this and definitely going to follow Annie Crown for more!
I really enjoyed this quick to love/miscommunication book. The characters matched with each other perfectly and I loved being able to relate to the FMC about trying to make your personal life match your book life. This books was a great quick read and I am really happy with the ending provided with the book.
*Caveat that I wouldn't recommend my students buy this because it's a spicy romance. I'd definitely recommend this to my adult friends who like adult romances.
"Night Shift" is a new adult romance about a book nerd student library worker and the brooding new basketball star. Kendall meets Vincent when he comes into the library on one of her midnight shifts and it's the very best type of romance love at first sights. The sparks flyyyyyyy and it is imminently enjoyable. There are some misunderstandings and meddling friends, and overall it was firing on all cylinders. The main characters felt real and their friend groups were totally endearing. I definitely recommend this for people who like new adult romances.

An equal parts sizzling and sweet debut from one of my new fave authors! Sweet and shy Kendall lives the best moments of her life in books. Romance books to be exact. While working her usual Friday night shift at the campus library, she meets Vincent Knight. College basketball star Vincent Knight. In a move that shocks even her, straight laced Kendall finds herself making out with Vincent up against a bookshelf in a quiet part of the library. What follows is their sometimes rocky but always beautiful path to love.
Yall. This book was so so good! Vincent is my new book boyfriends. He was so sweet and understanding. He listened to Kendall and met her wherever she was. And to a lifetime book need, Kendall was someone I could truly understand. She lived in books and because of that she sometimes waited for the exact perfect trope. But in real life, things aren't always perfect. They never really are. It was so sweet to watch her evolve throughout the book. Her roommates Harper and Nina were also such a good addition! Loving and supportive, but also unafraid to tell Kendall what she needed to hear.
Last but not least, this book is sexy in all the best ways. Sex in a library anyone? 😍 I loved it. The whole entire book start to finish. I'm so excited to see what the author writes next! If her debut is this good, I cant imagine how phenomenal her next work will be!
I received an advanced copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to Annie Crown, NetGalley, and Wattpad Webtoon Book Group. 🩷
THIS WAS FUN! Thank you Net Galley for a fun sexy ARC. Loved the characters and the story. It got me out of a reading slump.
Want a quick read with some laughter and spice? This one is for you!
I really, truly am obsessed with this book! Vincent is everything I ever wanted in a cinnamon roll MMC, and Kendall is just such a doll. She's so awkward and spirals about the things that I thought only I dwell on. This book made me feel seen and understood in a way that I didn't realize such a short romance could. Everything about this book made my heart sing I'll love it forever. I can't wait to reread it in a year or so again!
Anyone who says Wattpad authors are not real authors are just IDIOTS! I'm so glad this book was able to make it's way out of Wattpad because it was such a cute read! The character development was excellent and frankly, I read this book in one sitting. It was just so cute in all aspects and met my needs for a book while lounging in my hammock enjoying the day- trying to relax before MY night shift 😆 (though fair warning, this book has nothing to do with healthcare workers working nights shifts and honestly, that's what I initially thought when I saw the title, but I'm biased. I loved the sounds of this book based on the description and I'm very thankful to have received a copy through NetGalley).
I just reviewed Night Shift by Annie Crown. #NightShiftBook #NetGalley
This book stealthily stole my heart right from my chest! I was NOT expecting to be sucker punched in the feels so hard by a nerd and a basketball player, but this book reveals to be much deeper and perceptive than the ordinary sport/academic rom com. It’s also so violently realistic, that I caught my self numerous times reminiscing about my college romances and how exactly similar they were. So not only does the book come out of no where and judo chop you in the heart, but it’s so painfully relatable! Had me crying there towards the end, such a beautiful read!
Vincent marry me 🥹🥹 This is such a good book! A perfect holiday read! The story follows Kendall a typical girlie who likes reading books about mafia (you know the ones with naked men on the cover hehe)!
Kendall works at a library and on one of her night shifts walks in Vincent Knight looking for some 19th century British poetry!
This book has raised my standards in men - if my man doesn’t memorise poetry and write haikus for me, i don’t want him.
I have drafted this review three times now and I still haven’t found the right words to describe how much I loved this book.
It is the coziest, most heartwarming read I’ve had in a while. To say I feel some type of way would be to put it lightly. And I never ever want to give this book only a percentage of what it deserves.
This book spoiled me on every account imaginable. Night Shift tropes include but are not limited to: sports romance, opposites attract, he falls first and harder, “practice on me.”
Kendall Holiday and Vincent Knight are really just a couple of college kids doing their best to navigate the quickly heated romance that sparks between the two one night in the campus library. Kendall is working as the overnight circulation attendant when Vincent- who is the college’s star basketball captain- shows up in need of a poetry recommendation for an English paper. This obviously leads to a make-out session in a secluded aisle of said library (what else were they supposed to do after an impromptu poetry reading? go their separate ways?). Things spin off from there into one of the sweetest romances I have ever read. Ever.
I was highlighting quotes on every other page. I was giggling, blushing, dissolving. It was hysterical and emotional and lovely. The pace was fast but so detailed that I was able to revel in every single moment.
Oh, and the character development !!! I love watching plot points turn into realizations and self-improvement. And it wasn’t just Kendall and Vincent that made Night Shift so wonderful! Kendall had really special friendships with her roommates (I’m a sucker for a little found family). I was really psyched to see development in their relationships too!
To summarize, infinite stars.
Holy smokes this was ridiculously good. I will read this authors grocery list after this! This has no business being so good. Vincent is now the love of my life.
This book had me giddy from start to end!
Jock hero meets nerdy girl! I LOVED that Kendall (the heroine) was a romance reader/lover. Kendall enjoys her reading times and what better way than reading in a library where no one will disturb her. Enter Vincent, the star of Clement’s basketball team.
When Vincent and Kendall meet, it’s nothing but swoon-worthy. But their story is about stepping out of your comfort zone and take chances. This was truly an amazing and sweet read!!!
THAT WAS SO FREAKIN CUTE 😍 - the first thing i said when I finished the book. 5/5!
I wanna live in this book 📖
The main character Kendall is SO relatable! She’s a bookworm (spicy book reader ha!), introverted, and works in the school’s library. Vincent is a popular, and very witty basketball player in need of some tutoring 🤭 hence why shows up at the library…and where their story begins 🤗
This is Insta-love! I don’t usually like this trope but it worked here. I felt so connected to their feelings. Just utter magnetism and true butterflies 🦋 There were also some miscommunications…but again it worked so well?? Dare I say…I liked the miscommunication trope?
And it gets STEAMY 🧖🏽♀️ hehe don’t let this innocent cover fool you. There’s some spice…I’d give it 🌶️🌶️.5 That’s my personal rating. Others might give it more!
I do wish we got more depth from the characters. I felt like I only knew them on a surface level. Vincent more than Kendall. But overall, this didn’t take away from the story too much and didn’t warrant the removal of a star.
Other than those few rambling thoughts, I really don’t wanna give anything specific away because there were so many sweet, hilarious, and steamy moments that should be experienced while reading 😊
Moments/Quotes:
“And on Fridays, you sit behind that front desk reading porn.”
“Do it for the plot.”
“I like you when you’re a mess,”
-This will be added to my bookstagram and goodreads.
This sweet romance was full of laughter and heart warming romance that it made me giddy with that first love happiness!
Kendall and Vincent have one hot trust in the library during her night shift. That one moment sets in motion events that will change both of them!
The witty banter between Kendall and her friends, as well as between her and anyone she talks too had my loving this heroine instantly. You can tell right away that she’s not your normal run of the mill college girl and I loved that even though she could be timid and shy, she also spoke her mind. I really wish we could’ve gotten some chapters from Vincent’s perspective but I still really enjoyed this book.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! Let me just say, it's a total heart-melter! The main character, Kendall Holiday, is someone you can totally relate to. I couldn't put the book down! It's like being in Kendall's shoes when everyone else is out partying, but you're cozy at home with a good book. Totally relatable, right? 🤭
As the story unfolds, you can't help but fall in love with the characters. Kendall's fear of getting hurt and Vincent's determination to show her his true feelings make for a captivating romance.
Thank you to Annie Crown and the publisher for this advance reader copy. I'm so glad that I read it and will definitely buy the physical copy!
Ok this was good! This was one of the better ARCs I’ve read! I’m really hoping we get to hear her roommates stories as well in future books. I was in love with Vincent though and how shy and quiet he was when he wasn’t in his basketball environment. This kept me hooked I didn’t want to put it down!
✨ARC Review✨
Before I get into it, I just want to say I ATE THIS UP 🫠
The moment I started this book, I knew I was going to love it. Right off the bat, we’re hit with a relatable FMC, Kendall, with references to romances novels galore. If that doesn’t sell you, we then meet the handsome and charming basketball star, Vincent. As if THAT CAN’T GET ANY BETTER, we get the most fun and sexy banter a person could want. I mean…I was LOVING IT. The instant chemistry we feel between these two characters is everything and more.
I found myself smiling, feeling giddy, and laughing out loud. The whole time. Did we get cheese? For sure. Did we love it? For freaking sure.
Kendall is a straight up relatable character, for me at least. How she felt about herself and the world of romance just hit home. She’s insecure but wants this hopeless romantic love story. I get it, I really do. I really love how we get so many references to book tropes (there are a lot, btw) and what you’re typical bookstagram reader is thinking. It just felt so accurate and relatable. It was fun and it was cute.
Vincent is like…perfect? Honestly. I was really swooning hard for him. Not only does this man communicate and ask what Kendall constantly wants and feels, but he has a way with his words that’ll make you ~feel~. As far as book boyfriends go, he’s heading to the top. Can more men like him exist please???
This book was straight up a good time. I was loving the plot, and loving the characters. I loved the ~drama~ because let’s be real, we need drama! I loved the spicy scenes and how they were written. There’s one scene in particular that was very…lovely 😉 I loved the end and the epilogue. We get this full circle feeling and it was everything.
Like I said before, there were cheesy moments for sure but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I absolutely loved the dynamics between Vincent and Kendall and loved their playfulness. There were moments when I was rolling my eyes because I knew someone was going to pull the typical book tropes and do something they shouldn’t and it was glorious. Just the right amount of someone jumping to conclusions.
We had great side characters…Nina was the goat of friends. Some of the basketball guys…you’ll know who, also played a great role that had me feeling hopeful.
I loved the college feel to this. It felt super authentic and threw me right back to the good ole college days of mass chaos.
I loved the poetry thing we had going on. It’s different for sure but it fit well and served a great purpose.
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this. If you’re looking for some super deep read, you’ve come to the wrong place. If you’re looking for a super cute, fun, page turning, easy, cheesy, spicy read…ding ding ding!!!
I couldn’t put this down and I was hooked from the beginning 👏🏼 Round of applause for this book having the NERVE of being so good.
Thank you Annie Crown for the ARC copy! 💕
I LOVED THIS WHOLE BOOK.
There was not a dull moment in this book. I loved the characters, both main and side, and I really enjoyed the plot.
The spice was HOT 🥵
I loved the main character breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging tropes in books (I also hate miscommunication and pregnancy trope so I felt seen hahha)
OMG, this brought me back to my first years in college years. I had so many butterflies while reading this book. It was so cool to feel that relatable to the main female character, Kendall. This is hands down one of my comfort reads that will have its own designated spot on my bookshelf!!
After the first few chapters, I asked myself "Wait is this character Kendall like my twin? Is this book about me?". It made me giddy to know that someone else felt like I did in college. Shy, inexperienced, and only comfortable around my set group of friends. To say I was already invested would be an understatement.
Kendall is a bookworm and works at the college library. She works the graveyard shifts on Friday because she isn't big on going to the next party. But that's okay because she has an exciting and breathtaking moment in the stacks. The star basketball player, Vincent, goes to the library during her shift and asks for a poetry book recommendation for his English class. Although she is a bit shy and reserved, the witty banter begins between them and the sparks follow. They end up making out in the stacks and let me just tell you that it is HOT!
Both Vincent and Kendall were not expecting that at all but they knew they wanted it to happen again. Of course, they forget to exchange numbers so that makes it hard to communicate with each other. But they meet up again when Vincent asks her to tutor him. While they feel like total opposites, they are more alike than they think.
It was so easy to get swept up by this young adult romance, that I finished it in one night. Sure, I went to sleep at 3 in the morning, but the lack of sleep was well worth it. I loved everything about this charming, sports romance. I think Kendall's personality and Vincent's sweet nature made it that much more intoxicating. And let me be clear, while Vincent is a big teddy bear he knows how to bring out the blush in a girl!! Ahh, I could go on and on about this book. It was a special read and I still have a smile on my face as I am writing this review! If you are a fan of young adult romances or sports romances, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
