This was SO CUTE!! Night Shift is a classic college sports romance in the style of Icebreaker. The two main characters are Kendall, a bookish English major who works in the college library, and Vincent, a star basketball player. They meet one evening when he desperately needs a poetry book for an assignment and she helps him find one. One thing leads to another, and they end up making out in the stacks. When he asks her a few days later to tutor him, she isn't sure if he means actual tutoring or if he's looking for an excuse to see her again. They then proceed to have several near misses (all while she talks at length about her hatred of the miscommunication trope) before learning the valuable lesson of communication (in & out of bed) and ~come together~.
✅ Sports Romance
✅ College Romance
✅ Miscommunication Trope
✅ First Time
✅ Bookish FMC and sporty MMC
✅ Sweet & spicy
Super cute! I didn't love all of the misunderstandings between the MCs, but the spice was FABULOUS while still being really, really sweet. Neither main character is very experienced and so their sex was awkward and sweet and lovely. It's rare to find a book that is both so spicy and so sweet - usually sweet gets used as a code for closed-door romance. This was literally a perfect combo of both.
4 stars from me - I really liked it! Originally published on Wattpad, Night Shift will be out for purchase on November 14th - super soon! Thanks so much to Annie Crown and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for this ARC through NetGalley. I would definitely read other books by Crown!

She’s a nerd and he’s the star of the basketball team. She absolutely loves romance novels and he doesn’t know how to flirt!
Such a cute and SPICY little college romance. I breezed through this and loved every minute of it.

This was book was so unserious but, it was exactly what I needed! I ended up making it a game to try to highlight all the "Gen Z" references because, they were so relatable! Kendall was literally me in every way possibly from her spicy reads, to categorizing every moment of her life as a romance trope! The spicy scenes were relatable, and actualy did the opposite of intended, as I honestly just giggled my whole way through them because, this is really how it is in real life! The joke of hating the miscommunication trope while using it had me in absolute tears and honestly this was just so wattpad? Honestly 14 year old me would of ate this up, so I'm reviewing this from her point of view and saying Annie Crown is a comedic genius for this book. Overall I hope the intention was a relatable, laugh out loud, cringey novel cause I ate it up 100%. Thank you Annie, Wattpad and Netgalley for the chance to read this book before the paper back release!

Night Shift by Annie Crown offers an enticing blend of sports romance and book romance, catering to both audiences. This was an interesting read for someone who’s never picked up a Wattpad book, and I’d definitely explore this further in future to see what goodies I’m missing out on!
The story revolves around Kendall Holiday, a relatable bookworm character, and Vincent Knight, the dreamy basketball player, embodying a perfect mix of looks, softness, vulnerability, and an unexpected interest in poetry (or an interest in Kendall’s interest of poetry ).
Crown's storytelling prowess shines through, immersing readers in the spicy narrative that unfolds between the pages. For someone not accustomed to straight romance, this book clearly made an impression, attesting to its appeal. The characters are well-crafted, making it easy for readers to keep turning those pages wanting to find out more.
With a cute cover that hints at the delightful story within, Night Shift delivers on its promise of a college romance. I give this one 4.25 stars

“Night Shift” by Annie Crown
2⭐️/5⭐️
3🌶/5🌶
-Where do I even begin? This book would have greatly benefited from having a dual POV, because Vincent had no personality. I don’t know why he was so attracted to Kendall, it seemed like he existed solely for her.
-At first I wondered if I was too old to be reading a romance between a 20 and 21 year old. But then I remember I just finished “Divine Rivals”, which is about a couple of 19 year olds, and it was one of my favorite reads of the year. So, I think the writing in “Night Shift” was just a little too immature for me.
-While I appreciate how the author tried to keep the spicy scenes as realistic as possible, I think they were a little TOO realistic. They were awkward, way too long, and I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen.
-I didn’t like how meta the entire book was concerning the romance book genre. There were too many blatant references to tropes, and it was really annoying.
-Overall, this wasn’t the book for me.

I really enjoyed this. It was short sweet and smutty & I flew through it. I loved how realistic it felt for a college sports romance, the library setting was perfect to imagine & the fmc Kendall had very relatable insecurities and interests. My only complaint is that I do wish it had been longer because it felt like just the first half of a typical romance novel.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC <3

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sadly, this book wasn't for me. I thought the synopsis sounded so cute and that I was totally going to love Kendall, but instead she frustrated me the entire time. Literally every conflict in the story happened because she made assumptions and didn't bother finding out the truth. The entire book was one big miscommunication trope, which I hate.
My other problem with this story was that it was almost 300 pages long and nothing happened. There was literally no character development. We basically know nothing about either character except that Kendall loves books, poetry, and libraries and Vincent loves basketball. This story could have been told in 50 pages. Also, I love a good steamy book, but I need my steamy book to have a plot. This book was just steam with no plot.
I will say that although he needed more development, I did enjoy Vincent's character. He was pretty adorable.
Although this book wasn't for me, if you like lighthearted smut with just a tiny bit of storyline thrown in, then this book may be for you.

Omg I finished this book in two hours I literally could not stop (also helps that it’s 2am) but I loved every second!
The fmc was so relatable and funny and the mmc was also so loveable and they were perfect.
This is a perfect contemporary romance read, it’s short and easy to read and the banter between them is just perfect🩷
The fmc is a romance reader and she was so relatable in every way. Even the small miscommunication trope was understandable cause I probably would have thought the same way as her but seeing how they both communicated their feelings and talked stuff out made this a 5⭐️

First of all thanks so much to the author and net galley for the ARC!
This book is a college romance where a book worm and a basketball player fall in love 🤩
The book is really cute and it is SO fun to read of a book worm/romance reader because I could see myself in her so many times!
The book is really fast and the writing is good.
In it though there are two tropes that are not my cup or tea.
First off ista love, they get feelings for each other SO FAST and that is usually not my preference.
And then there is so much miscommunication... Most of it is in a dorky/ I never had a relationship way and it was okay but at one point it truly became too much for me.
I gave this book 3,5 stars ✨
I would still recommend checking it out to have a good time!

I loved Night Shift! Such a fun, quick, spicy read. It was a nice change to read a basketball romance when I’ve been reading so many hockey romances. The chemistry between Kendall and Vincent was perfect and we are always here for an introverted bookish girl.
I can’t wait to read more by Annie Crown.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thanks so much to Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the free book.
I was very curious about it, because it seemed to embody all the elements I love in a sport romance (and I admit, maybe wrongly I thought it belongs to that genre). That's why I'm quite disappointed, because this book could be very good, but the final result seems more a sort of draft that needed to be explored more.
Annie Crown has an interesting writing style, and there are things I really appreciated during my reading:
- the interaction between the main characters when miscommunication is left aside;
- the way Vincent treats Kendall, because he's a real gentlemen;
- the spicy scene are really well written;
- the speech Nina gave to Kendall, because sometimes people need to hear when they're mistaken.
On the other hand, there are some other aspects that annoyed me or left me confused:
- at the end of the book I don't know almost anything about Kendall and Vincent's background. I understand a little bit of their personality, but the rest? It's too poor on this aspect;
- Vincent is a basketball captain team, but they almost don't talk about it (again, a huge lack of background);
- the secondary characters are useful to resolve the "drama", but they don't add something more. Even between Harper and Jabari things are immediate. We see that they're into each other, than something happens and....? Another easy resolution after another easily fixed problem;
- the misscommunication. Ok, it's a trope, but since this story is very short, it has been used too much. All I could see was how Kendall hurt Vincent for essentially no reason. Her thoughts and fears were understandable, but too excessive, maybe? (Anyway, I appreciated the "grand gesture");
- the lenght of this story. I'm afraid this is the main problem, because very few things happen (and that's another weak point), and as consequence, every Vincent and Harper's misunderstanding becomes the main focus of all the plot. That disturbed me, because they overshadowed the rest that actually was good.
Nontheless all those critic aspects (for me, of course I hope you'll love Night Shift), I would be interested to read more about this author because I think she has a concrete strenght she just has develop more.

💁🏻♀️ This was a quick, fun, new adult romance. I enjoyed the library setting and all the bookish references, and i’m a sucker for a relatable bookish heroine. I also really loved the friendships, especially with Kendall’s best girlfriends. I don’t typically love instalove and the miscommunication here was frustrating, but the self awareness around it was unique and appreciated. The poetry and banter were really cute. One of my favourite things about this book aside from the bookish references was the spice, of which there is a lot. I loved that it made fun of typical romance dirty talk a bit. What I loved most was the realness of it. The spice didn’t take itself too seriously. What made it take up more pages was the laughter, awkward and not so sexy moments that aren’t usually included in romance novels. This just heightened the romance level for me because I loved how comfortable Kendall and Vincent became with voicing what they wanted.

Thank you to Wattpad Webtoon Book Group and NetGalley for the ARC copy in exchange for my honest review☺️

I would like to thank netgalley and Wattpad for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Engaging and enjoyable.

a simple and sweet college romance that was filled with miscommunication and fun secondary characters. kendall and vincent meet at the library during her night shift and what follows suit is a series of miscommunications trying to tell the other they like them. i enjoyed this book, it was pretty straightforward and felt like a college version of a disney channel original movie just a little bit spicy

Talk about cute Ya rom com, definitely loved the whole vibe and setting, super easy fun read it. Love the characters and how the story develops

Kendall Holiday spends her Friday nights working the nightshift at the university library instead of partying with her friends. This gives her plenty of time to catch up on her smutty books in a quiet space with no one to bother her. That is until the star basketball player, Vincent Knight, shows up needing her help with poetry recommendations. After a spicy moment in the back of the library, Kendall finds herself falling fast and fearing that this relationship may not be like the ones in her romance novels.
I really enjoyed this book and loved these characters! I laughed throughout the book and the miscommunication between the characters was such an accurate representation of college relationships. I loved all the book trope references, and how two people living completely different lifestyles were able to build a relationship together in a very Rom-Com type of way. I highly recommend this book.

2.5 Stars
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
The insta-love. The INSTA-LOVE.
I went into this book completely blind. I haven't been an active user of Wattpad for a while, but upon browsing Netgalley, seeing the premise, and the cute cover, I decided to give this book a fair shot and it was about as much as I could expect from a wattpad novel to be very frank.
My main problem? The complete lack of build-up to any sort of chemistry and the rush of it all. The dialouge between the characters were so majorly cringy, making me question who talks like that in real life. I know that our librarian MC is supposed to be a bit bubbly, but I genuinely felt like I was reading through the eyes of a juvenile. There was no deep connection to why the characters like each other, no understanding of why someone like Vincent would like someone like Kendall, just straight physical attraction, being horny, and so much miscommunication.
It tries and fails to be meta-humourous as well, having Kendall and her friends attempt to make fun of their "tropes" and breaking out of said tropes, but the jokes fall flat because they lean into those tropes anyways. The main character even says a line like "I am like other girls! I make a point to!"
Honey. You are most definitely "I am not like other girls!". This woman instigated so much unnecessary stupid things in this book that I didn't even find it enough in me to care when she owned up to things in the end because all the things she did could have been so majorly avoided.
Completely unecessary plot devices say what?
The whole "what do we hate most in books? Miscommunication" dialouge between our lead and her friends and then having the book do more miscommunication was just so distastefully done. It could have been done in a more ironic way, but it just- wasn't?
It's a great piece of advice not to let people define us and let us get caught in our stereotypes but it wasn't given the care or development it needed in this book. I don't know, the humour there just felt forced and more like the author giving us a wink saying "I know what I'm playing into!".
I almost DNF'd. Purely didn't do that because I needed to see how this book ended.
Listen, all the little pieces to make a cute little college story were there, I just felt none of them were executed well.

Thank you again to Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was a romance novel about a romance reader, and it was about what you'd expect. Lots of self-acknowledged cliches, lots of open-door scenes, lots of internal and external drama. I've already forgotten the characters' names, but it was a quick, breezy read.

LOVED this from beginning to end. cannot wait for what annie crown does! this was like reading a REALLY good fic that i would desperately wait weeks and weeks on end for an update for. read it in one sitting. 10/10 had so much fun reading this

Ill be honest I did not like this. the female character got on my nerves. I found this cringe and this book was just not for me.
