A cute, spicy sport romance. I like the tongue-in-cheek play on romance books and their readers, and the realism and awkwardness of romantic situations.. However, the story was very simple, and the male character was not well fleshed out as the female character. I have to say, in certain areas, she was unlikeable. I do see potential in the author. for this genre.

Night Shift was an enjoyable and cute read. I was instantly able to connect with the lead character, Kendall and her love of books. As someone who has recently begun reading contemporary young adult/adult romances it was charming to see her and her friends "over analyze" their relationships with boys (and each other) and relating them to book/movie tropes. Overall- it was an easy enjoyable read there were moments near the end that I wish got to the point faster. I appreciate the male lead character, Vincent patience with Kendall but I did at times wish he was more forward and expressed his true thoughts and feelings more.

Thank you to netgalley and wattpad books for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was absolutely adorable. I honestly could not put it down and found myself staying up WAY too late to finish it last night. It was worth it though because Kendall and Vincent were perfect.
I liked how Vincent wasn’t the stereotypical college jock and how he called Kendall out when she tried to revert back into living her life vicariously through books ways. But he was also so sensitive and sweet to her. Plus, he recites poetry? Sign me up.
Kendall also has great character development throughout this book, even though some of her freak outs due to her lack of communicating with Vincent are frustrating. However, they have a purpose and make her grow as a character.
Overall, I absolutely adored this book and cannot wait to grab a physical copy for my bookshelf.

This was a very cute, quick read! I loved the chemistry built up between the characters, but would've been very interested in dual POV chapters. The romance felt rushed at times, but it spoke to how quick the characters fell for each other. The storyline was believable and I felt like I was back in college at times (yikes)! Vincent was well written and I loved their respectful, open communication with each other -- hello new book boyfriend! Kendall was every girl's inner dialogue when trying to live out romance tropes and I connected with her so much. Can't wait to read more from Annie Crown, this is definitely something to curl up on the couch with and devour!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
3.5 stars
Kendall and Vincent met at the library during her Night Shift and make out.
Cons : I would have love to know the characters a little more. We know all about Kendall’s love for romance novel but almost nothing on Vincent or his/her friends. And the story is maybe a little too fast, insta love.
Pros : I loved when the girls talk about trope. Kendall and Vincent are really sweet alone and together that make thinks real. Plus the poetry part was it !
A sweet and quick read perfect for fall !

The Night Shift by Annie Crown is a fun and steamy new adult sport romance that will have you blushing and swooning!
This was such a great story and don’t let the cover fool you with its cuteness, and while I love the cover because it's so cute, the book is very spicy! Which I loved. I was not expecting that but sometimes surprises are the best and I really loved how fast paced it was, I did not think the book dragged one bit. It has short chapters which make the book seem to go faster and before you realize it, you're asking for more pages to read. I loved the tropes as well that the book had, he's an athlete and comes to her for tutoring, there is instant attraction, slow burn, he falls first and falls harder. Their chemistry was undeniable and instantaneous. I thought it worked for the story.
Another thing I loved was the strong female friendship in the book. I think it's so important and often times so under looked and I thought that was a special touch. I loved the humor of the book, it was Witty and funny. I just wish it was a bit longer but that's just me wanting more from these characters and not ready to let go but overall, I really loved this book and I think anyone looking for a sport romance will enjoy this book.

"I've always been skeptical about nonfictional men. They are, as Nina puts it, garbage. And I know that's a generalization, but it's scary to be a straight woman when you never know if your new crush might actually be a closeted racist, a serial killer, or a cryptocurrency enthusiast." ~ Night Shift
If you're looking for an adorable, low stakes college romance story then look no further. "Night Shift" has all my favorite tropes rolled into one story: opposites attract, she falls first but he falls harder, sports romance, second chance romance, etc. Kendall and Vincent's banter is top tier and the slow burn isn't agonizingly long. Kendall's inner monologue is so relatable; as an introverted bookworm who basically lives in libraries, I completely fell in love with this MC that felt like me but in a different font.
Also, I'm a sucker for stories where the female protagonist's girlfriends support her and boost her confidence! Reading about Kendall, Nina and Harper's conversations reminded me of conversations between my girlfriends and I in college - so realistic! I have such a difficult time finding new adult novels that take place on a college campus and actually feel realistic, but Annie Crown knocked it out of the park. As someone who missed out on 1.5 years of college due to COVID, this book offered the perfect escape for me. "Night Shift" has the perfect mix of romanticism and realism. It's just as Kendall explains herself - I myself read romance novels for escapism and I prefer them to be light and fluffy reads. "Night Shift" felt as fanciful as I expect an opposites attract romance to be, and thankfully it never felt contrived. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I wanted more!!!!! I can't wait to read more of Annie Crown's books in the future.

Night Shift is a cute story of a college student who works the night shift at the library. But Vincent Knight, the star of the basketball team, walks into the library and into her life. Before sure knows it, Kendall is the start of her own romance novel.
What I liked: So I'm not normally a fan of insta-love, but this one was so cute. The tension between these two characters was perfection. I liked the intentional use of book tropes as a means to advance the plot. Kendall's love is books, and she lives her life (for better or worse) as if she's in one. I loved the characters, and the spice was just PERFECT. While it was insta-love/lust, there was still a nice buildup to their intimate encounters. It was a really quick read, and a perfect, light story.
What I didn't like: Honestly, the integration of the tropes intentionally made this book great - had the author not done it so well, I wouldn't have preferred it. But I did - I can't think of anything I didn't like.
Thanks to NetGalley amd Wattpad Books for the ARC read!

I received this as an arc and am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book and will be immediately buying a physical copy for my shelf. The FMC (female main character) Kendall is pretty much. She is a lover of romance books and finds her safety in those books. I could relate to her being naive about relationships and turning her life into a romance story, in good and bad ways, even though that wasn't her intention. I loved the development of the characters and the storyline. I loved that it mentions tropes and sometimes pokes fun at it. For me the main characters are totally relatable. This book hits all of the best points of a romance book without feeling cheesy. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know.

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! Let me just say, it's a total heart-melter! The main character, Kendall Holiday, is someone you can totally relate to. I couldn't put the book down! It's like being in Kendall's shoes when everyone else is out partying, but you're cozy at home with a good book. Totally relatable, right? 🤭
As the story unfolds, you can't help but fall in love with the characters. Kendall's fear of getting hurt and Vincent's determination to show her his true feelings make for a captivating romance.
Thank you to Annie Crown and the publisher for this advance reader copy. I'm so glad that I read it and will definitely buy the physical copy!

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this as an ARC for me to give my review! This book was absolutely adorable. I love the story between Kendall and Vincent's story and how they suited each other so well. I believe that if you love college romances then you will love this book! I loved that it was a medium slow burn with lots of character plot and very wholesome smutty scenes. I will definitely recommending this book!

Kendall works night shift at her college library on Friday nights. She does this because she has little to no interest in the party life. Honestly, she’d rather sit in the library and read smutty novels (relatable). One night during her shift, handsome basketball star Vincent asks her for help finding poetry in the stacks and spiciness ensues.
I flew through this book! I consider myself a victim of Wattpad due to all of the absolute filth I read as a 12 year old and this did NOT disappoint. There was banter, there was spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️/5), and there was melt my heart adorable. This was a fun, fluffy read with no 👏 third👏act👏breakup. Plus the characters spend a good amount of time actually making fun of the trope in romance novels! The characters were genuine and I only wanted the best for the characters.

Ok this was good! This was one of the better ARCs I’ve read! I’m really hoping we get to hear her roommates stories as well in future books. I was in love with Vincent though and how shy and quiet he was when he wasn’t in his basketball environment. This kept me hooked I didn’t want to put it down!

Rating - 3.5
Firstly, I’d like to thank the publisher for approving my netgalley copy. This was such a cute read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the friendships Kendall had with her roommates/best friends, they were the sweetest! I loved the slow burn between Kendall and Vincent, it really gravitated me into wanting to read more.
I loved Annie Crown’s writing style throughout and the plot!
If i had to critique one small thing, I wish the relationship between Kendall and Vincent was fleshed out a bit more and there was more depth but besides that, this was a really cute contemporary college romance and I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy!

This was so cute! It’s everything a want in a romance: cute, quick, fun, witty and easy to read!
The story is well-paced (almost TOO fast) and I loved the bookish girl meets the athlete boy. I also loved how she overthought her relationship into tropes and how realistic the author was regarding romance AND that they fell in love over poetry. 🥹 Ugh my little heart. It was also much more realistic than most romance books (besides below) and that was a nice surprise.
I loved the book, but honestly? I just wanted more. Maybe I needed more. I just wanted to see their relationship develop and I just think the whole insta-love/this takes place over the course of like a month makes it hard to deeply connect to the characters. I loved the writing, their honesty, and how they communicated (except when they miscommunicated those few times 👀) BUT it kind of fell flat when you look at the timeline and how quickly it all happened. I think it would have been great to span this over the course of a semester, add in more library trips, maybe basketball games, more dates??? Ugh I just needed more everything, but maybe just more of a build-up to the relationship. I loved them together and I wanted to see them develop and grow more!
And finally - thank you so much to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

The Night Shift is a cute new adult rom-com with a relatable main character.
Kendall is a bookish girly, like us, who loves reading romance (covers with shirtless men, in public!), and wishes her life was like a book. In comes Vincent, captain of the basketball team, tall, and swoony. During her night shift they banter, and bump noses, and the rest is history.
This was an easy fast-paced read. I did thoroughly enjoy it.
I do not mind the insta-love trope, and it did work somewhat well in this case. However, I do wish we got more about their emotional connection, instead of the physical one. It seems like they were attracted to each other just for looks right away up until about halfway through. I was missing a little bit more of their connection outside of the physical.
Kendall is very self-aware, but still keeps making the same mistakes. She talks about hating the miscommunication trope but this book has in every other scene with Kendall and Vincent.
Tropes:
- Instalove
- Miscommunication (not unbearably so though)
- Tutor
- Sports? (not much talk about basketball, but its mentioned enough)

Such a quick, cute romance read!
Kendall and Vincent have a chance encounter because of a late night library run in, but their attraction is instant and their chemistry is undeniable. The two flounder a bit with miscommunication, but cannot stay away from one another.
The story is well paced and adds a bit of steaminess with the romance scenes. Humor is added from their college friends (Vincent's teammates and Kendall's roommates), which adds realism to the story.
Overall: 4 stars
I'll tell my students about: language, sex, alcohol, drugs
**Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the free ALC. All opinions expressed are my own.**

this book had me feeling some type of way. i felt like i was reading a book about myself in high school. kendall was me in high school and it took me back to that time in my life. while it wasn’t a good time for me, getting to be nostalgic was what really made this book 4 stars for me.
i loved the feeling of young love, of navigating the beginning of a relationship and not being sure where you are with each other that this book gave me. kendall, being a girl who compared everything in her life to the books she read only reminded me so much of myself in my younger years and actually brought a tear to my eye once or twice. (thanks nina for that speech that teenage me needed)
vincent reminded me of a boy i knew in high school and while nothing panned out between us, it was nice to see things happen for him and kendall. i loved that he COMMUNICATED!!!!!!! seriously, where do you ever find that? and in a college-aged man, no less??? fantastic.
there were a couple of spicy scenes and while they were detailed, they weren’t necessarily graphic. they described more than just what was going on, but the MANY thoughts that went through kendall’s head as well.
while this book was only in kendall’s pov, i still think it was written incredibly well. when telling a friend about the book, i described it as “wattpad but in a good way” which, seeing as this actually came from wattpad makes sense.
i loved this story and thought it was so cute and special and it was very nostalgic for me. i can’t wait to read what else annie publishes in the future!
thank you netgalley for an arc of this book ❤️

Night Shift by Annie Crown is a college NA romance. I originally read this back when it was first published on Wattpad and when I saw it available on NetGalley, I immediately requested to read it. It is perfectly paced with no super long chapters and I had a fun time reading it. Don't let the cover fool you, this does have spicy scenes in it.
I highly recommend this book when it comes out!
Full review will be posted on goodreads closer to release date.

I was enjoying this book and liked the main characters until this one situation happened. So the FMC had miscommunication with the MMC, which okay fine, it happens it a lot of books. It was nice that she told her friends and they were hey! you hate it when this happens in your romance books, go talk it out with him. AND SHE DID! Which was great and it helped the main characters grow as people and in their relationship. BUT THEN, the miscommunication happened like 10 pages later and instead of talking it out with him, the FMC was like “Never talk to me again!” and I was like WHAT! GIRL, we just went over this….how did you not learn your lesson….
