🔹 Overall Thoughts:
〰 This was actually surprisingly cute and charming. I got approved for a copy on netgalley and since I was in-between books, I literally picked it up right away and read the whole thing in one sitting. I’m not sure how many pages this book has but it’s definitely a super quick read.

〰 I won’t spoil anything since the book is not even out yet but here’s a list of things I loved and things that prevented me from giving this a higher rating:

🔹 Things I loved:
〰 The fact that I was able to read this in one sitting without getting bored or feeling like the book is too long.
〰 The humor. I actually laughed a couple of times which is always a great sign lol.
〰 The female friendship. This will always be something that I absolutely love in books. If you like the found family trope then you’ll love Kendall’s relationship with her two roommates/best friends.
〰 The writing style was surprisingly great for a debut. And from my understanding, this was originally published on wattpad? If that’s the case then I have to say that whoever edited this book did a good job cause there were no glaringly obvious editing mistakes which we love to see.
〰 All the talks of book tropes and genres. The author was definitely speaking to all the romance readers throughout this book which was kind of endearing.
〰 All the english lit talk. I have a minor in English literature and I can’t tell you how much I love discussions surrounding 18th-19th century works. If you’re like me, then you’ll enjoy the multiple discussions in here about poetry and classics.

🔹 Things I didn’t love:
〰 The fact that this felt like a prequel instead a full standalone. The two main characters were not fleshed out well enough to the point where I actually felt like I knew them. I know pretty much nothing about their families or even their aspirations for the future.
〰 This was definitely very insta-lovey. Or at the very least, insta-likey. It didn’t bother me much but I thought it was worth mentioning.
〰 We don’t see a fleshed out version of the relationship between Kendall and Vincent. If anything, it felt like we saw the preliminaries and then the book ended before we got to see them in a “real” relationship. That’s why I said that this book felt like a prequel for me.
〰 The thing that happened after a certain party because despite the heroine insisting that she didn’t want to experience the “miscommunication trope”, it still felt like she was super quick to jump to conclusions in that scenario. I will say though that she made up for it so don’t let this point stop you from picking this book up.

🔹 Final Thoughts:
〰This was honestly cute. It actually gave me “Icebreaker” vibes a few times. If you’re looking for a super quick, easy read that will help you get out of your head for a few hours, I recommend it. Happy reading everyone!💕

Thank you Netgalley for granting me a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The FMC is both very aware of romance tropes and also falls victim to them. The MMC is way too perfect. It's a very cute, fast-paced romance with a dash of spice, but also feels way too aware and healthy for a book about two twenty year olds? It's not bad that they're so conscious of their flaws and faults, it just really didn't resonate true to my experience as a twenty year old. (Maybe that says more about me than the protagonists) This felt more like two people in their late twenties, early thirties, so I just pretended they were older in my head.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I wish this book was longer!!! I could not get enough of Vincent and Kendall! I enjoyed their story from the very first page till the last. I loved that Vincent was this soft, shy jock. The little notes 😭😭😭 Jabari's confession about Vincent 😭😭😭😭 I also loved watching Kendall grow and begin to trust and love Vincent. Such a cute read!

If you're looking for a fun, quick read, I'd highly recommend this book!!

it was a cute little story. i liked that it was fast paced and a super quick read. i did feel something was missing within their chemistry and it was a bit too much of insta love.

When I tell you I GOBBLED this book up!!
Night Shift is a perfect balance of plot, romance, friendship, and spice. When I learned that this was an imprint of a wattpad story, I expected it to be the bad kind of cheesy, but NOPE. It was SO CUTE. The pacing is incredibly well done, what goes down in the story between all the characters (not just Kendall and Vincent) is REALISTIC and believable, and each chapter has you grasping for more. Absolutely addictive. I normally cannot read e-books because I get distracted and visit other apps on my phone, but I was GLUED to the screen and to the story. A huge job well done to Annie Crown!

The only reason it's getting 4/5 stars instead of the full 5 is because there are a couple cliches that just rubbed me wrong. Mainly in certain character dialogues. But overall, it doesn't impact the overall enjoyment I had for Night Shift as a whole. It was an absolute pleasure not only getting to read and review this book in advance, but Night Shift was also the first approved title for me here on Netgalley and I'm honored to have had my first ARC read be SO FUN! A must read!

OMG, this brought me back to my first years in college years. I had so many butterflies while reading this book. It was so cool to feel that relatable to the main female character, Kendall. This is hands down one of my comfort reads that will have its own designated spot on my bookshelf!!

After the first few chapters, I asked myself "Wait is this character Kendall like my twin? Is this book about me?". It made me giddy to know that someone else felt like I did in college. Shy, inexperienced, and only comfortable around my set group of friends. To say I was already invested would be an understatement.

Kendall is a bookworm and works at the college library. She works the graveyard shifts on Friday because she isn't big on going to the next party. But that's okay because she has an exciting and breathtaking moment in the stacks. The star basketball player, Vincent, goes to the library during her shift and asks for a poetry book recommendation for his English class. Although she is a bit shy and reserved, the witty banter begins between them and the sparks follow. They end up making out in the stacks and let me just tell you that it is HOT!

Both Vincent and Kendall were not expecting that at all but they knew they wanted it to happen again. Of course, they forget to exchange numbers so that makes it hard to communicate with each other. But they meet up again when Vincent asks her to tutor him. While they feel like total opposites, they are more alike than they think.

It was so easy to get swept up by this young adult romance, that I finished it in one night. Sure, I went to sleep at 3 in the morning, but the lack of sleep was well worth it. I loved everything about this charming, sports romance. I think Kendall's personality and Vincent's sweet nature made it that much more intoxicating. And let me be clear, while Vincent is a big teddy bear he knows how to bring out the blush in a girl!! Ahh, I could go on and on about this book. It was a special read and I still have a smile on my face as I am writing this review! If you are a fan of young adult romances or sports romances, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my goodness, Night Shift was such an adorable book! I enjoyed this so much.

I really liked Kendall and Vincent’s characters. I definitely think they suited each other very well. Just a warning that this book is very insta-lovey. But I personally think it worked in this situation, and I usually hate insta-love!

Kendall was a very relatable character. She’s a bookworm and is very critical of herself. She worries a lot about what other’s think of her, and unfortunately I think a lot of us can relate to that. Kendall works in a library and I worked in a bookstore, so I loved that I could relate to that! I liked that her friends didn’t blindly agree with everything she said or did. They kinda called her out on her bullshit😭which was so real because most of the FMC’s friends in books won’t do that.
Vincent was so cutesy. He started learning poetry and reading romance books for her 🤭

One problem I did have with this book though was not getting to know the actual characters. All we knew about Kendall was that she liked reading. And for Vincent we knew he played basketball, but there wasn’t really anything happening in the book regarding basketball. So, I do wish we had seen more of what the MC’s were like!

I actually wanted to read this when it was on Wattpad but never did. It’s still a bit Wattpad-ish, but in a good way! The constant miscommunication annoyed me a bit, but I got over it😂 It’s something that reads very easy and is chill. I read this so quickly and it was so fun. I get bored of most rom-coms, and have to take a break from them, but this kept my attention the whole time!

“Nina and Harper will gladly pay for my Plan B out of their sheer hatred for the surprise pregnancy trope.” 😭😭Night Shift was so funny and I laughed out loud multiple times… which is something that is hard to get me to do.

If you are looking for a cute, quick read I would definitely recommend Night Shift!

I have been LOVING sports romances recently and will definitely be recommending this to my romance book club! Even though there is a sports focus, I liked the English class tie-in as an ELA teacher myself! I think a lot of readers could relate with Kendall and her thoughts throughout the story - I know I definitely could when I was back in college! I thought there was great chemistry and some parts had me laughing out loud. The romance and topics reminded me a lot of the Hannah Grace romances and I hope to see more from this author in the future!

I was living out my college alter ego through Kendall Holiday throughout Night Shift. Working in a library on a Friday night? yes please. Vincent was such a sweetheart and not your typical college jock, the relationship between the two was everything you could've hoped for. The steamy scenes were definitely steamy and there was A LOT !!
Something I didn't love in this was when it was mentioned that, "miscommunication is the worst trope" and then add that as a trope in the book, it's not my favourite in romance. Other than that this was a solid romance, I'm just not sure what was missing for me.but I had a great time reading it!

A cute, quick read. Some of the dialogue and writing is a little cringey at times, but if you take it for what it is (A Wattpad novel), it's actually pretty good. Overall, not a masterpiece, but definitely a fun little piece of escapism.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad for providing an arc in return for an honest review.

just finished this book, it was an ARC I was able to reward through NetGalley, my first through them!

Bear with me…Let me preface this by saying this book was a very quick read for me, I finished it with about 6 hours, I devoured it! Ok…It wasn’t until roughly 20% in that I was able to fully enjoy it. I’m not sure why… because the MFC/writing doesn’t drastically change but maybe the story picks up around that point? I wasn’t sure how I was going finish this book (I hate DNFing a book and I truly want to us this privilege to help authors) but then I reached a point where I honestly could not stop! I was fully planning on spending the morning cleaning the house and 😬OOPS! that didn’t happen because I was completely hooked and drawn in!!!!

Even though it here was instant attraction and chemistry between the two when they first meet in the library (yes a swoon worthy MMC picking up the MFC with one good arm!), I think when Kendall and Vincent meet in the coffee shop is when we get to see real meaningful interaction between the MCs. The banter is cute and fun! All the anxious worries Kendall feels is so real and I could totally relate and put myself in her shoes. I have a love/hate relationship with single POV books because I’m dying to know what the MMC is feeling and thinking, and I sometimes feel I might miss clues the reader is meant to pick up on that the MFC usually misses. However, the author’s bread crumbs were easy to follow and I really loved it. The MCs seem to be very self aware and learn from their mistakes and miscues fairly quickly. I would totally classify this book as a RomCom; the banter is funny and adorable, the inner thoughts of the MFC are hilarious and had me laughing out loud! Also, there was some quality spice 🌶️🌶️!

Overall I would give this 4.5⭐️ only due to the slow draw in, and this may not be the case of other readers! I think Night Shift is definitely a worthy read and look forward to more of Annie Crown.

I was graciously given an ARC in exchange for my honest review! Thank you so much to Annie Crown, Wattpad Books and NetGalley for the ARC! 🫶🏽

What an amazing read by Annie Crown! I quite literally could not put this book down. It was steamy and romantic right from the first chapter. Our bookish FMC, Kendall had me hooked immediately. I felt very connected to her from the get go. I loved our MMC Vincent as well! He had major golden retriever energy - a really sweet, caring and understanding MMC.

I loved how fast and fun this book was. Crown’s writing was impeccable. Each chapter kept me hooked and the words literally jumped off the page. It had me feeling like I was a fly on the wall in Kendall and Vincent’s world, which I absolutely LOVED!

I was obsessed with this book when it was on Wattpad, and I will continue to be obsessed with this book long after I get my little hands on a physical copy of Night Shift. It is the comfort read of all comfort reads.

It is your quintessential first year college sports romance done SO WELL. Kendell is a quiet and shy book worm that works the night shift at her university library. Vincent is the star of the basketball team who comes in late one night and needs a poetry book recommendation for his english class. I can honestly say this is the only book I have ever read where it features some miscommunication and I didn't want to throw it through the wall because it was done so well.

I loved Kendell's character - I feel like her personality, insecurities and nuances were so realistically written for the stage of her life in the book - and her growth is messy and real and just so authentic. I would frankly crawl on broken glass for Vincent, and he should be voted for prez.

Other than my love for the main characters, Annie wrote side characters that you'll also fall in love it. So can we please get a Harper and Jabari book!!!!!!!!! (my one christmas wish)

Thank you Annie Crown and the publisher for the ARC. Easiest 5 starts ever. This made my week!!

I was completely enamored with this book feom the start. The fmc? A smutty romance reader? Helloooo!?!??! I AM HER! SHE IS MEEEEE!!! this here book had me screaming, giggling, squeeling. And kicking my feet while reading. Vincent is THE book boyfriend. You tellin me all i gotta do to get a man like that is work at a library?!?!? DONE DONE DINE! this book was so well written and had me screaming like a school girl in love that my dad was concerned with the noises coming from my room. This book completely deserves all the recognition it has plus 293839392929 times more. This is now one of my favorites and they dont lie when they say the cartoon book covers be the spiciest!!!

I WILL be buying a physical copy to go on my shelf <3 1000000 stars out of 5!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad for providing an arc in return for an honest review.

I was really wanting to like this book. I found the synopsis to be interesting but unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The main reason is that the two main characters Kendall and Vincent lack chemistry and their dialogue just seemed unnatural. Their first meetup in the library was awkward and while I love the “nerdy” and “popular” hookups to love stories, this one just didn’t hold the insta-love it should have. While it did have it's funny parts, it just wasn't enough to keep me reading. This one was a DNF for me.

This book was fantastic! Nothing too crazy, a situation that could definitely happen in real life. I absolutely love Kendall and how completely 100% she lives in her head, and how she compares situations happening with Vincent to the tropes in the books that she reads. I love how her friends told her to basically write her own story that she doesn’t have to fall into the stereotypical trope that she can just be honest with herself and communicate with Vincent. I love that there was NO third act break up, just a midway point were Kendall was in her head to much an insecure and finally after Vincent’s team mate talked it out with her she finally realized that Vincent was just a nervous as she was. This was a definite story of self discovery and finding love in unexpected places with a comical twist that kept the story lighthearted and wonderful and absolutely spicy!

I did not want this book to end, I was loving every second of it, and then it was over 🫠 this is a quick read I finished it in one sitting it wasn’t over complicated and was 100% what every rom com reader needs to read because let’s face it Kendall is so relatable!

this was a super cute and very well written and well thought out college romcom. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, considering I usually don't enjoy Wattpad novels at all and am notoriously picky about romance books. I can't wait to buy myself a physical copy of this.

3,5⭐️ ~ arc review

i thought this was such a cute and quick read!!

Kendall and Vincent meet when she has the night shift at the library and he comes in looking for a poetry book for his class

Kendall was honestly a relatable FMC imo! some of her thoughts could've literally been my own

Vincent was a fun MMC!! he seemed like a cocky jock, but was actually quite shy with Kendall; and i surprisingly really liked that aspect and found it endearing

they were a cute couple, but i feel like they had so much more potential!!

i would've loved to see them have more in depth conversations n stuff. at the end i felt like i just started to get to know them.

overall i did really enjoy the book and it kept me entertained throughout the story!

that being said i would recommend this book if you're looking for a cute, sweet and quick read!!

tropes you'll find
* college romance
* bookworm X basketball captain
* tutoring
* soft hearts and filthy mouths ;)
