Kendall content with her life. After all, she has the two best friends in the world and all of the romance books in the world. What more could a girl ask for? At least, that’s what she thinks until Victor, her college’s star basketball player, walks into the library at night desperate for help with a poetry assignment. NIGHT SHIFT by Annie Crown follows Kendall as she learns that there’s more to life than the Friday night shift at the library (and romance novels).
I had fun reading this book! The overall plot was entertaining, and the book had good pacing. There was also pretty good character development, and Kendall was honestly a pretty relatable character. The main flaw for me, however, was that the characters seemed to lack depth. This was especially true for the side characters; they were entertaining and had promise as characters, but I just didn’t think they were well-rounded enough for me to truly appreciate them. Kendall and Victor had more depth than their friends, but even then, I constantly found myself wondering “why.” Why did Kendall rely so much on romance books? Why did Victor have trouble communicating what he wanted? I wanted more underlying explanation for their behaviors.
Overall, though, I thought this was a fun, breezy book if you’re looking for something cute and sweet.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a cute short story. I think sports romances are a really big thing right now and I thought this one wasn’t trying to hard to prove the author knew something about the said sport which I think made me I okay with it because it didn’t feel forced. It had the typical miscommunication trope but didn’t come off in the frustrating way most do. It came across more like a normal college age misunderstanding that for anyone expecting something mature wouldn’t like it. The main characters were okay. They sounded like they both are from a model catalog so the image you get in your head is pretty standard and their personalities aren’t very evident. The relationship was the focal point for the whole story, so you didn’t get a lot of individual character growth outside of what it played into the relationship. I found the plot to be exactly what you’d think it would be which was full of spice. This has potential to be a more complex story but just isn’t there.

DNF. Hate enemies-to-lovers trope. Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book? How do I even begin? The story follows Kendall, an introverted reader who works the night shift at the her Uni’s library on Friday’s to avoid parties. (She’s so real for that.) While at work one night Vincent Knight, the star of the school’s basketball team, shows up looking for help with book and it flips her life upside down truly.
I love LOVE LOVED the dynamic of these two. I read this book in one sitting; not only because it was such a smooth reading experience but also because I couldn’t put it down.
I loved everything. Their relationship, Her friendship with Nina and Harper. The representation. The way Kendall sees her life in books and the way she’s a feminist badass who holds true to her standards because she knows she deserves something wonderful.
The spice was incredible, believable, feisty and sweet all at once.
I cannot recommended this book enough. I’m so thankful I got approved for the eARC! It’s one of my new favorites!

I read this book initially on Wattpad when it first came out so firstly, a HUGE congratulations to this author for getting published! I am so glad I got an early copy of this book to read in advance of its release and go back to Kendall and Vincent’s love story. I adored them the first time and this time as well. This was a refreshing read as it had been a while since I read a college sports romance but this hit all the right spots. The banter and the spice were SO SO good. Vincent was a basketball player and Kendall worked the night shift (roll the credits) at the library and they met there. I love reading fmc’s who love to read and work in the library because I love to read and would love to work in a library! I also liked that Vincent wasn’t this bad boy kinda guy but actually decent because I feel like the cliche in college romances is that the guy is kinda an ass. This wasn’t the case here which I liked. I found the book a little bit too insta-lovey for me, as someone who likes her slow burn so that would be my main critique of this book. Overall a great book and thank you, Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Really cute and sweet book. I loved how the author used the main character's love of romance literature, to either explain away a trope or have her call herself out for falling into a trope. I'd be frustrated by miscommunications, then the main lead's best friends would call her out for falling into the miscommunication trap. Anytime I'd be close to rolling my eyes at one of these clichés, I'd have to stop myself since the characters would already be discussing it. By leaning into the genre in this way, it made me enjoy this book even more. It was very tongue in cheek, which I loved, especially as someone who doesn't read a lot of books in this genre. Plus, it had all of the elements that I enjoy (quick pace, page turner, etc.).

A bookworm and a basketball player? I’m IN.
This book was such a treat to read. It brought the spice, the tension, and angst that all romance books give us. This book was such a quick and easy read, so easy to follow. The character were a delight to read.
Kendall is the girl we all relate to at time (at least me), when it comes to friendships and social interactions; we rather sit down with a good book on a weekend rather then going out. It was nice to be able to relate to a character in such a particular way. While on the other hand, Vincent was the book boyfriend that we all love! The student athlete who we will think has it all, but on the inside, he is the quiet selfless person who would do anything to have the specific girl. ADORED.
The only downside of the book for me was how rushed the book seemed. It started amazing at the beginning; but somewhere along the middle the book just had some dead ends and the ending felt so rushed, but all and all it was a great read. I really recommend it!
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book and give my honest opinion.

Omg I LOVED THIS I haven’t read any of this authors work on wattpad but wow I’m so glad she got picked up to publish this one!! Not to mention the cover is so frickin cute

I first knew I was going to love this book as soon as a poem I had never read before was included as an integral piece of the meet-cute. I am a sucker for classic literature. I clicked with the FMC right away — she was the perfect balance of trope-y and relatable but without being cheesy. The initial descriptions of the MMC immediately drew me into Crown's writing. Instead of listing features she truly captured the demeanor and personality of him right away. The FMC is self aware and humorous but not to the point that it begins to get annoying and pull you out of the story. I also LOVED the spicy scenes in this book. They were so real and a tad awkward (realistic!) while still maintaining that delectable spice we love so much. The language of the ending was my least favorite part of this book — a bit too, "I'm trying to make a general claim that goes beyond the scope of this story" — but I love the relationship between these two characters nonetheless. WILL be buying a physical copy and anyone who loves sports-themed romance should too!

This was such a sweet and quick read. If you love romance books you'll probably like it. Kendall is just like every romance reader with high expectations of a potential boyfriend. There are times where she leans into the "not like the other girls" trope and it made me roll my eyes but thankfully there are wonderful side characters that snap her out of it. This is one of the times that I think this book could have benefited from a dual POV. I would have loved to read Vincent's POV. Kendall's insecurities and self sabotage slowly became aggravating and I think having Vincent's POV to balance that out would have made it a better read.
Overall, I still enjoyed this book but I think there were things that could have been explored and added to make it even better!

“The thing is, I don’t read romance novels for the realism. I read them because they make me feel seen and heard as a woman. They let me explore my desires—both the ones I’m proud of and the ones I clear from my search history—and they’ve taught me who I am and what I want.”
Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad for the e-book. This was a sweet book about the awkwardness and the unexpected highs and lows of first love. I found it ironic that the three female roommates hate the miscommunication trope yet miscommunication abounds in this book.
Vincent is completely adorable. He’s shy yet emotionally mature. It’s nice to read a sports romance where the athlete isn’t a womanizing jock. The spice isn’t all that steamy but it is graphic. They spend a lot of time talking about sex and not a ton actually getting down to business.
It definitely transported me back to those college days when you’re still so unsure of who you are and who you want to be. It was deeply relatable in a lot of ways. It was a little slow at parts and their communication style is bit odd but I still enjoyed this read.

I enjoyed reading this book so much it was so much fun. Vincent is the man of my dreams he is just such a nice guy and he was the perfect match for Kendall. Poetry being their love language is just the most perfect thing ever and their obsession with each other is AMAZING. Like they match so well i can’t get over it.
Also this was actually such good smut like i actually enjoyed reading it it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable or anything like it does sometimes in other books.
The only things I didn’t enjoy in the book is the way they broke up before they even got into a relationship and the way they didn’t fully get to know each other. It just doesn’t feel realistic but I guess all books are that way.

This was delightful - the witty banter, the romance book references, the tension… I just wanted more! The first half was perfect, and then it felt so rushed and anti-climatic. I wish there was more development between our two main characters. But if you’re in the mood for a quick campus romance with more spice than plot, you’ll enjoy this like I did.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

This was a cute, quick, light read! I thought it started off really strong and I didn't even mind the sort of insta-love they had going on. Then, somewhere around the halfway point, I got a little bored because their relationship wasn't really developed as well as I'd have liked.
A lot of the dialogue was cleverly written and some straight up had me cackling- especially between Kendall and her roommates. I'd definitely read another book in this world, especially if her roommates are the next MCs.
I love the cover, it's what made me request this book! So adorable and different than a lot of the flat/boring cartoon covers.
3.5 stars for me!
Thanks to Wattpad Webtoon and Netgalley for this ARC!

Night Shift is a fast-paced spicy college romance with great main characters and even better supporting characters.
In this book we meet Kendall, a college junior working the night shift at her school’s library when the star basketball player comes in looking for a book sparks fly between the two and what follows is a fun read.
This book truly reads as a love letter to romance books, it has all the things I love in a romance book a great FMC someone that I can root for, an amazing love interest that is supportive, understanding and an even better supporting cast of characters (say it with me we love great supporting friends). While it also has things I don’t like, miscommunication and even at times a passive main character, what makes it or breaks it for me is how the book handles these obstacles while both are not something I love to see in books it’s the way the characters acknowledge these flaws and how they react to them that make the book worth reading.
Solid four stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON book for for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A very fun, faced paced, spicy read! Usually I find college romances cringy but the characters were believable enough and down to earth to make the story enjoyable! I also liked all the tropey references.

This was such a great story.
Don’t let the cover fool you. It is book full of spice.
The banter between the characters was very well written and had me laughing. I read the book in three hours because I didn’t want to not know what was happening next. Will definitely read more books by the author!!

This book provided an enjoyable and delightful experience with a fast-paced storyline. It revolves around a female main character who has a passion for reading, while the male main character is a basketball player, creating an appealing "opposites attract" dynamic that I found very well done. The portrayal of the friendships in the book was particularly good, contributing to the overall charm of the story. I had a great time reading it because I could relate to the female main character, who shares my love for books. The relationship between Kendall and Vincent was incredibly endearing. I wholeheartedly suggest this book if you're seeking a swift and entertaining college romance to dive into!

This was such a cute, quick read! I definitely feel like some parts were kind of rushed but would still recommend!

This book was so surprising. It felt like an honest to god slice of college experience. The fear of the unknown, of messing up, of succeeding, etc. I saw my college-aged self in Kendall, and I loved that there was so much more to Vincent than just being a jock. He’s pretty great.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
