4.5 stars!!
i could not put this book down idk what annie crown put in this book but it was so good. i think the reason why i loved it so much was the relationship between kendall and vincent just felt so real to me. although there was some miscommunication between them, which is why this wasn't a 5 star for me but overall i enjoyed this book very much and i look forward to reading more from this author!
thank you to netgalley and wattpad books for this arc in exchange for my honest review <3

Such a fun read! Kendall is incredibly relatable in her thought processes, more aware than more most white main characters, and subtly surprising at times (which isn't always typical of fictional characters) . This was my second time reading Night Shift, since I read it when it was posted to wattpad a few years ago and I was so happy to see it was being published. When I read it the first time, I loved getting the notifications that there was another chapter posted and getting to read that way, but I wondered if the anticipation contributed to how much I liked it and my high rating. That was not the case at all, and I enjoyed Night Shift just as much this time as I did the first time.

One of my favorite parts of the book is that the author leans into characters that consume a lot of romance books. It feels common to read about a main characters who reads romance, but while I often find those details unnecessary or weirdly condescending, in this case it's done in a way that I really enjoy. The characters' interest in romance books is written into this story in a way that feels thoughtful and like a genuine discussion of the genre which is rare. This book talks about romance books in a way similar to how my favorite booktokers do, with nuance and a deeper understanding, but still admiration. This wasn't a huge component of the book, but it really caught my attention and those details contributed to my enjoyment.

Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad books for the ARC!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

This Wattpad story turned published novel was actually quite easy to read and fun to follow along!
Vincent and Kendall, the main characters, we're a bit stupid at times and the miscommunication between them was kind of 'eye-roll' worthy but they were pretty solid main characters. I especially loved the relatability of Kendall and her love for romance books. She had high expectations because of her books and favourite characters (like most of us do too!) and she wasn't going to compromise which was absolutely awesome to see. Vincent was a softie on the inside and especially for Kendall and it was just so wholesome. The writing was really fast-paced and I loved that the plot didn't drag on for too long. I didn't know this book would have so much spice but it did so if you're looking for a fun, sports romance between two sort of immature but super hot college students then this is the book for you!

4⭐️ This book was such a cute and fun quick read. This is about a fmc who loves to read and the mmc is is a basketball player, so it has that opposites attract trope which I liked. I really liked the friend groups in this book and this was overall a cute book. This was fun because I related a lot to the fmc because she is a big reader. Kendall and Vincent were so cute together. I definitely recommend this is you want a quick college romance to read!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC of this book. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.

I thought this was a fun and fast read. The spice was fun and well spicy. I really loved the characters. I will say that I didn’t really get the plot. I just felt like the story didn’t really lead anywhere. I do think a lot of spice lovers will devour this book and enjoy it.

Also, it would’ve been a bit easier to read with a different format. I have awful eyesight and I constantly had to zoom in to read this but it didn’t take away from the book. It’s just an observation.

3.5 stars rounded to 4!

Overall I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was very cute and the story between Vincent and Kendall was what every girl wished to experience when in college. There were moments where I wish some of the storyline could have been more in-depth and I also feel like the end of the book was a bit rushed. I recommend this book it was a nice read and I hope there will be a second one.

Night Shift by Annie Crown is a college romance and the story of Kendall and Vincent.

Kendall is a book lover, and I could immediately relate to her. She literally has the dream job of working a night shift in the campus library and it’s usually not very busy so she can use the time to read. That is until she must help the basketball star player Vincent one night and it ends with them having a kiss between the bookshelves. And this beginning scene is the perfect beginning to this adorable story.

Both Vincent and Kendall are not very experienced with relationships, and they slowly grow into one. There were so many amazing scenes involving poetry and I was living for them. Vincent is also not the cliché player, and he is super sweet and a cinnamon roll hero. I feel like this book is a manifestation of a romantic scenario a lot of us dream about in college times and therefore it felt like a nostalgic and heartwarming book, and I loved it.

Overall, Night Shift is the perfect book for all new adult lovers. 4,5 stars.

This was so cute!! I never read the original wattpad posting of this story but I will say this is a very polished and well paced work. The main plot happens on a way shorter timeline than I was anticipating but it didn’t take away from the story, I actually loved how each scene got to breathe.

Our main character Kendall is simply awesome and I loved being in her head. She has a good balance of endearing insecurity mixed with bursts of confidence. This book is self-aware. We have meta references from Kendall of tropes happening (or maybe not happening) in the story and how her love of reading, particularly romance novels, influences her decisions and perceptions. Also, yes this got so sweet and swoony at times it stays pretty grounded in reality and feels new adult to me in a nice low angst way.

I loved rooting for the main love interests. I also loved the side characters. This is a modernized exploration of romance that calls out double standards (for both women and men) while still hitting all those romantic beats (and spice) that bring us to the genre. Thank you to Wattpad Books and NetGalley for this ARC!

Alright wow, first off a huge thanks to Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and Netgalley for providing me this book in exchange for an honest review! Secondly, I really wanna thank Annie Crown for writing such an amazing and adorable story and… how is this her first novel?! I checked her profile on Goodreads and was left in shock that this was apparently her first book ever. And also, how did I miss this in my Wattpad days??
I’m happy I found it now and am able to review it! Hereby I give Night Shift 4,5 stars! (:

Kendall is a hopeless romantic and a book nerd who works at her university library and she spends most of her time reading steamy romance novels (who doesn’t). Vincent who is the basketball star at the university needs her help for his English Literature assignment but when the two meet it seems they want way more from each other than just coffee and tutoring sessions… wink wink

“I memorized poems for you because I wanted to be able to talk to you about the sht you like.” He lowers his voice. “And I a** you out because it was my birthday, and all I wanted was to make you c***. That was for me, Kendall. All of that was for me. I didn’t do it just to be nice. I did it because I. Like. You.”

This book is set in California at Clements University. It’s a contemporary sports romance where opposites are attracted to eachother and it was great! It was the typical light and fun college romance with a popular guy who falls for the shy librarian and I’m totally here for it. I read this book in one sitting, devoured it completely and now I’m hungover haha.
I adore this book with my whole heart and I’m for sure gonna buy this book physically just reread it and to support Annie Crown who is an amazing author and since this is her debut I can’t wait to read her future books who are for sure gonna be even better!
The only reason why I didn’t give this a whole 5 stars is because I found their first meeting adorable and amazing tension but rushed. It was insta-lovey and they were kissing in the first 15 minutes. It’s not something that’s bothering me but I think that their first interaction could have gone a little different and I can imagine that people find that a bit disturbing in a romance book so that’s why I’m mentioning it briefly.

Plot and World building
Nothing negative to mention, the plot was well thought out for a light and cute college sports romance, stayed true to its synopsis and there was lots of character plot and a few nice smutty scenes!

Characters
First off I really wanna say how nice and relatable it was how Kendall was a fellow romance reader. She really had her standards high for fictional men and related her real life events with tropes and at some point there was some miscommunication and I’m really happy she wasn’t blind to it (partly because of her friends) and the couple really tries to communicate with eachother. I appreciate that a lot.
Secondly I loved how funny and amazingly dramatic Nina is when it comes to hyping up Kendall for the dates with Vincent. She really made me have a good laugh. Another important note I wanna mention is that there is no annoying, arrogant popular girl who tries to steal Vincent from Kendall or whatever (The book After cough cough) which made me so happy because I absolutely hate that trope.
He was very down to earth with her about having previous dates and stuff but that’s only normal, there was no weird hook up girl who he went to after the miscommunication with Kendall. He just didn’t know how to approach the feelings he had for her which is only neutral. Everyone was super likeable, Kendall is super intelligent and listened to her gut feeling, Vincent was a super nice and decent guy and didn’t have that bad boy ish vibe and the side characters added funny dialogues to the book!

Romance
The thing I swooned the most over was how Vincent really tried to learn about Kendall’s interests. He learned so many poems and poetric lines for her, he read romance novels for her, he memorized her schedule, like who doesn’t want a man like that?? And the tension in their first meeting… god it was so good I couldn’t stop kicking my feet under my blanket haha. Lastly, the smut, it was amazing. It wasn’t crazily explicit so I think it’s readable for people who prefer less spice. In my opinion it’s only a 2/5 spice rating.

"The books around us are quiet, in the way inanimate objects are, but I can feel them around us- full of magic, full of possibility.”

Conclusion
The book ends with a pretty open ending, you can imagine afterwards if things work out etc. To wrap it up, I would really recommend this book to anyone who wants an adorable NA sports college romance with a not typical bad boy ish love interest! Again, many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley and to the author for writing it! This whole review was my honest opinion on this amazing book.

I hope this review helped you giving a proper idea to the story and makes you want to read it as well, enjoy and happy reading! (:

There was so much to love about Night Shift! It does an amazing job of highlighting the dangers of living in books. Kendall is constantly comparing real life to books - pointing out tropes, comparing real people to book boyfriends, and constantly expecting the other shoe to drop like a third act breakup - and she ends up saboting so many facets of her life because of it.

Her friends point it out to her and really show how self-defeating she's being by trying to overlay fiction over real life. One friend says the thing all bookworms need to hear: <i>"It’s like you’re doing a literary analysis of your own f*ck!ng life to avoid actually living it.”</i>

It's an excellent reminder to NOT do that! I'm guilty of it myself. It's so much easier to break your life into microtropes than to deal with the chaos.

Vincent was another much-loved aspect of this book. He was a handsome, popular jock who also happened to be kind and truly care for Kendall.

<i>“I memorized poems for you because I wanted to be able to talk to you about the sh!t you like.” He lowers his voice. “And I *** you out because it was my birthday, and all I wanted was to make you c***. That was for me, Kendall. All of that was for me. I didn’t do it just to be nice. I did it because I. Like. You.”</i>

His openness and willingness to let Kendall make mistakes endeared me to him instantly. In fact, there were a few times when I thought he was too good for her. She jumped to conclusions that made him out to be a terrible person when the fault rested on her shoulders which brings me to the one thing I greatly disliked about this book...

Kendall and her friends state men are trash several times in this book. Like, A LOT of times. It makes the romance seem unbelievable because either Kendall is saying it just to be an edgy feminist or she truly thinks men are trash but still obsesses over one man in particular and wants to have an HEA with him...which makes her either a hypocrite or completely untrue to herself.

This trope (the Feminist Who Thinks Men Are Unworthy but Is Herself Unworthy Without a Man) seems to be popping up everywhere and it just makes no sense to me.

Even with this snag, I'd still recommend Night Shift. The care with which Vincent handles Kendall and the self-reflection she's willing to go through make it worth the read!

Thank you, Annie Crown and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I could not put this book down. I loved the slow burn romance between the two main characters. The story was emotional, romantic, witty, smutty, and realistic. I could see this book being read over and over again. I will definitely be reading any other books the author puts out. Highly recommended!

First of all, thank you to NetGalley for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ll say that I absolutely adored the first half of this book. I love Vincent a lot but I didn’t really get the middle conflict.

Also, I’m not a huge fan of pop culture reference in novels, even less of a fan of characters being readers and constantly bring up tropes. Especially saying you hate a trope and use it in your story lol.

Like I said, I really enjoyed the first half, but the second half just fell flat for me unfortunately. But I’d still be interested to revisit the author’s work in the future!

Thank you to Netgalley, Annie Crown and the publisher for sending me a copy of Night Shift to read and review!

This book is literally everything I love to read.
A Sport Romance, Witty Banter, He falls first.

I read Night Shift in a few hours and Im absolutely obsessed!

Kendall is a bookwork introvert who loves a good romance book and works in the college library and Vincent is the star college basketball player who needs some tutoring.
These two quickly became one of my favorite book couples, their relationship was so wholesome and cute!!

This is a 4&1/2 star read and I will be buying a physical copy because I enjoyed it so much.

I was actually impressed with this book after learning it was Wattpad. Normally, those books are hard to get through. This book had cute characters, a decent plot, and some funny moments. It’s not the normal type of book I’d read, but still enjoyable!

Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the ARC copy of the book!

While this story wasn't groundbreaking, I was super intrigued by the premise of shy librarian and star basketball player falling in love. And while we got that, I felt like something was missing for me to really enjoy this book the way I expected to. I felt like their love story wasn't flashed out enough and was more tell that show in a way, so I felt it was a bit too rushed for my liking and a bit unbelievable. That's why I couldn't fully connect to characters ( who I felt I didn't know enough by the end of the book ) and I couldn't fully root for them.

All that aside, there were some really beautiful moments between them that I really enjoyed reading about and I think love interest was really nice and sweet. Also I related to the daydreamer and romantic side of our main character, which is always a plus and great thing to encounter while reading. And even though I wish we got more slower burn romance and less smut, I really enjoyed the scenes we got and felt like they were nicely written.

All in all, this was enjoyable read and even though I'll probably won't remember it for a long time, I still had fun time and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a fast romance collage read.

"Night Shift" kicks off with the prospect of a promising youthful romance, tapping into the charm of Wattpad teenage years. However, as the story unfolds, the flirtatious and sweet moments become borderline cringy. Also the excessive use of bookish analogies ruined the story's credibility. One of the most significant drawbacks of "Night Shift" is its pacing, where both the narrative and character development feel rushed and underdeveloped.

Thank you to the Wattpad Books and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! The whole premise and characters really drew me in and kept me entertained. I loved the friendship between Kendall, Harper and Nina. I do wish we got more time with Vincent and Kendall. I felt like the book moved so fast and I just wanted to enjoy it a little longer. I’m glad that the miscommunication that went on between Kendall and Vincent was resolved fairly quick and we got to hear both sides communicate clearly! Overall, this was a cute and fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you’re looking for a sweet contemporary romance to give you the warm & fuzzies, this is it. Kendall is a bookworm trying to navigate her new fling with the captain of the basketball team with only the experience of her romance novels to guide her. The banter in this book had me giggling and kicking my feet and the mouth on Vincent had me sweating. All of Kendall’s romance novel comments and comparisons to life made her even more relatable and the character development between her and Vincent was great.

However, it could have used more relationship building. It very much had an “insta love” vibe to it and I didn’t feel the characters had really developed a connection until the epilogue. It started off really fast paced and plateaued but picked back up at the end. Not a ton of spice but there is a bit and Vincent somehow knew how to make the spice so sweet at the same time.
