Literally everything I was looking for. Pure entertainment, no plot just vibes. LOVED IT.

Thanks netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc.

I wasn't sure if I would like this one at first but I actually ended up loving it! The attraction between the two and the insta-lust got me from the beginning and I was loving it. I enjoyed the steamy scenes and the fast-paced plot. The virgin trope wasn't for me but it thankfully didn't take away from the story as much as it has in previous books that I have read. I really liked how the author handled it. Also, who doesn't love library scenes? COME ON!

This is cute but it fell a little flat for me, sadly. It's reminiscent of "Icebreaker" by Hannah Grace -- similar setting, similar storytelling style. I'm not a fan of insta-love and this book felt like that for me, but it was cute, quick and fun.

really really wanted to love this. a shy bookworm getting her dream love story with the star basketball player is a trope I’ll always eat up. and in that regard, I did like this story. I liked both characters, they were easy to like and neither were overtly annoying or too much of something. I liked how related some lines were, like truly “is this fckn play about us”

but overall this story just missed the mark in a few ways. for one, the pacing was off for me. while I appreciated the fact the story wasn’t unnecessarily dragged on in page count, it also happened so quickly that by the time they’re talking about “feelings they can’t share” the characters had really only hung out like 4 times, though it spanned over a month. there was so much time spent apart that the development happened much to quickly.

also, while the story had relatable moments, it also tried to be TOO relatable. being a reader doesn’t mean that books, tropes, stereotypes, and romance is the only way we perceive life. kimberly mentioned books ALL THE TIME. every aspect of her life, she wound a way to define it with a trope or some aspect of reading. more then being cute, it was a little annoying and took me out of the story. I mean she went looking for a condom because her life wouldn’t be the accidental pregnancy trope 😐. and the conflict in this book comes from her assumptions his friends are forcing them together, which obviously means there’s a bet going on, and she hates the bet trope in books 😑.

I saw the vision, and the vision was good, it just fell short on the execution for me

If you’re like me and make *slight* assumptions about the book based on the cover then you’ll be excited to know that Night Shift was just as cute as it looks.

At the start of this book and the cutie vibes I was getting, I thought I had thrown myself into a YA read which I’d mentally prepared for. That QUICKLY changed when about 15 pages in, our lovely main characters were sucking face in a dark corner of the library. I barely put the book down after that.

This was a super quick and easy read and I loved our golden retriever MMC Vincent and our innocent, spicy book reader FMC Kendall. While they had their differences, they were perfect for each other and despite some minor miscommunication which is one of my least favorite tropes, it was super enjoyable.

While I love a good book that is so unlikely to happen in real life, every once and a while, I like to see what a true contemporary fiction book can bring to the table and I loved how realistic everything was. The story on paper seemed mundane and boring, but it worked so well for the plot.

If you’re in the mood for a light read with some steamy scenes that take place between isles of novels, this is the perfect book for you. This had (has?) the potential to continue on with Kendall’s 2 roommates, but as it is, was a great standalone and a fun read in 2023.

Book Rating: 4/5
Spice Rating: 3/5

On paper, they dont' make sense, the basketball star who is struggling through his poetry class, and a english major who spends her Friday nights working at the campus 24 hour library. A sweet romcom for a very relatable FMC who thinks in book tropes, just like us.

"I don’t read romance novels for the realism. I read them because they make me feel seen and heard as a woman. They let me explore my desires—both the ones I’m proud of and the ones I clear from my search history—and they’ve taught me who I am and what I want."

Hard relate.

I was hesitant going into this because of how fast it started (felt a bit hard to believe) but once I got past that, I truly enjoyed it and devoured it!! Was it cheesy? Yes. Is it the best writing ever? No. But I still highly recommend!

A nervous, inexperienced FMC and a very patient, experienced MMC is a trope I love 🥹 Vincent was so perfect and respectful and swoon worthy.

Wouldn't rated higher but there was just a weeee bit too much miscommunication.

I love this cover and I really liked this book! It gave some Icebreaker vibes and I loved it! Super cute, lightly relatable. I really enjoyed the characters and how they seemed to jump off the page like real people!

I enjoyed this and thought it was really cute but I feel like the characters were not fleshed out enough and the miscommunication made me want to rip my hair out! But I fought it was a cute and easy read!

I thought this was a cute story. I enjoyed how Kendall really seemed to be bookworm-ish compared to some other characters that are the popular version of bookworm-ish. I thought that the story between her and Vincent was sweet and I could understand the miscommunication that kept occurring between the two of them. I also thought it was well written as far as tone and language, since sometimes romance books can be a bit trendy in word choice especially when talking about college age characters.

I’m not a huge fan so super insta love books so this one missed the mark for me! I did love that the fmc was a book girlie. I usually love a little miscommunication but this just seemed so silly!

Ugh the synopsis had so much potential but the story was an insta love wattpad smut novel. I was so disappointed that the main character fell for such a himbo

This was an ok book. I don't necessarily like the miscommunication trope and wish the characters would have actually spoken to one another. I also felt like there was a part of the story I was missing but cannot place my finger on why or how.

It was cute! But not my favourite book ever unfortunately. I know the book came from watt pad but it definetly gave the Wattpad feel

I am new to the basketball romance book, I typically tend towards the hockey ones, but this was a nice change! I enjoyed the characters and how meta everything was. The callout of the tropes and how there romance isn’t like a book was cute way to move the plot along. I’m not sure the characters would have immediately kissed like they did, but maybe I did college wrong and people did that all the time? Either way, I enjoyed it and would read it again!

While Night Shift definitely has its audience, unfortunately, I don't think I'm a part of that group. I started it a couple months ago, but almost immediately stopped. I picked it back up this week because I wanted to give it an honest shot, even though the first chapter or two didn't grab me, but I'm officially dnf-ing at just under 20%. I wanted to like it. I was an English major, and I worked at the university library in college, like our FMC. Library girles deserve their moment. I I like college romances as much as the next girl, but the insta-connection, straight to making out situation in the library just didn't do it for this demi-sexual. Through no fault of the author, I was just struggling to connect with the characters, and one of my goals for this year is to not waste my very finite amount of time on books that don't absolutely capture my attention. (Also, even though I know a lot of people feel this way, right off the bat the author chose to have the FMC be ashamed of the "shirtless covers" on her romance novels, and that gave me the ick. Read romance proudly, babe!)

But if you like instant attraction college romances, featuring a FMC who loves romance books, definitely give this one a read.

This was such a cute, quick read. I enjoyed both the main characters a lot. If you're looking for a romance that's a little cheesy and a little spicy, this one is one to check out!
