Freida McFadden has blown up in the thriller world for a reason! Her thrillers are so fun and fast-paced -- THE TEACHER might be my favorite one from her to-date!
This was my first Frieda McFadden book and I was definitely not disappointed! I understand the hype now. That little twist at the end was completely unexpected and I loved it.
In an era where there is so much heavy-handed moralizing in fiction, it is absolutely refreshing to read an author who just writes fun suspense and who doesn't beat the reader over the head with good girl/victim bad guy/victimizer characters. ALL of the characters in this book were fairly despicable! I get plenty of "real life" from real life and reading McFadden's books gives me a much-needed break from that. Nate is awful, but so is Eve. Yes, Addie is just a teenager and she's had a rough life, but she is also horrible and not angelic by any stretch of the imagination. And while I had early on figured out Nate was nothing but a predator and that Addie was no more his soulmate than Eve was, the Jay twist at the end got me! I would not recommend this book to readers who want a gentle, feel-good read. There are plenty of books out there for that. Nor would I recommend it to someone who wants a good "moral of the story" lesson-teaching book; there's plenty of that, too. But for readers who want to sit down, escape reality, not be emotionally invested in characters, and enjoy some suspense with twists and turns? I've got a book for you!
I will admit that through about 70% percent of this book, I was unimpressed. I didn’t dislike the book but I just thought it was a little formulaic. It definitely kept my attention and I wanted to eagerly keep reading it but there wasn’t anything special. Until there was! And I LOVE when that happens. It’s what makes reading so exciting. Eve and Nate have what SEEMS like a great marriage. But beneath the surface, things are different. Addie is having a tough year and it’s only getting worse now that a school bully has set her sights on her. You may think you know where this is going, but keep reading for the twist because this one is so fun!
One of my favorite McFadden's however I am getting tired of the "name/nickname" plot twist. I did enjoy the grave digging with the leaves and I have recommended the book numerous times.
Freida McFadden had me from the very first sentence with this one! In true Freida fashion, the story is full of twists and turns right down to the very end. I feel she wrapped this one up with a bow. If you haven't gotten on the "Freida Train" yet, get aboard all of her books hold you in suspense, and I feel good about allowing my younger teen to read them too!
Frieda McFadden is the queen of popcorn thrillers. Are they realistic? No. Do they keep you invested and wanting to keep reading? Absolutely. I am on a quest to read all of her books. They are so fun and this one is up there of my favorites. I was completely entranced with who did it and could not put it down.
It’s good writing when you gag and roll your eyes to all the stupid things some of the characters did or said. Great thriller, knew some things but some surprises still thrown in.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
I am sorry but this book was really horrifying. I disliked it so much. It gave me the creeps. SO many predators.
This was the second McFadden book I've read - and I have to say I enjoyed much more than the first. I'm glad I gave this author another chance. The plot twists felt intentional instead of random, and seemed to flow better in the story than in some of her other work(s). Overall, an addictive psychological thriller that will leave you with a chill running down your spine. Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book! It had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down! Freida did it again by adding a plot twist that was unexpected as always and the epilogue of courseeeee left us all stunned!
Interesting read, didn’t see the twist coming! As usual, thought I did but nope! I love the character development and how everything is connected in a weird way.
I was not expecting the end! I love all freida books! I just got into reading a year ago my first choice of a book was the locked door. Best choice ever to get me into the love of books.
Addie is a young girl who has a problem. The year before, she was befriended by a teacher. Although both she and the teacher claim nothing happened, the rest of the community has formed their opinion. The popular teacher is fired. Because of that, Addie is destined to be unpopular. In fact, the most popular girl in the school has taken it upon herself to make Addie's life miserable. To make it worse, her childhood friend has deserted her and now is the boyfriend of the popular girl.
Eve is a teacher. She's married to another teacher, Nate. On the surface, they have a great life. Nate is good-looking and popular with the students. Eve is not as popular as she's a bit more of a tough nut in the classroom. But, hey, she's married to a good-looking and popular guy. But their marriage isn't going well. Nate seems to be losing interest in Eve.
Addie is falling for her teacher, Nate. And he seems to be quite interested in her. On the other hand, Eve is having an affair. Is there a sinister motivation to Nate's interest in Addie? Is Eve's life in jeopardy? In this tightly-woven story, the reader is kept guessing. The plot is well-developed. The ending is unpredictable and startling. I highly recommend this book.
Frieda gets me EVERY TIME. As a teacher, I was so excited to read this book! Frieda's books always keep me on my toes and I never can keep up with or predict all of the twists in her masterful story-weaving. Such a fun read! Definitely leave your day open so you can binge the whole thing in one sitting!
This book was good! I did not see that twist coming. Which isn’t shocking considering Freida is the author. The twist and turns in this book, along with her others can not. Be seen.
Freida McFadden is definitely one of my favorite authors. I always enjoy her books, but this one was one of my least favorites. The plot and story line was good, however; it was triggering. The relationship with the teacher and student(s) (manipulation + escapades) was triggering for me. There's always a great plot twist at the end, prepare to be surprised.
I was excited to read this book, and while it lived up to the fast-paced, twisty storyline, I was disappointed with some of the content. Student/Teacher relationships are messy and not really something I prefer to read about, but overall it kept my interest and the twists were indeed a surprise (especially at the end). Several situations seemed too far-fetched and unbelievable, but I’d still give the book 4 stars overall.
This book has many twists and turns. This is a story about revenge and keeps you guessing until the end. Nate keeps repeating a pattern of behavior, thinking he is special and all women are attracted to him. Unfortunately, they are high school girls.
