This hit a little close to home reading a mystery/thriller about high school students and teachers. However, I was intrigued and I was hooked. I thought this was fast paced, kept you guessing, and by the end reveals.. my jaw was on the floor. I love that Freida is always quick and to the point in her books. Excited to see what she does next.
What in the world did I Just read??!!🫣😳 This is the best book I have read by Frieda so far and that is hard to say because all of her books I’ve read so far are great. Once again her book had me hooked from start to finish and I am still sitting here afterwards with my mouth hanging open.
Frieda has a way with twists and turn in a story and this one had just that and more. There is no way to predict what is coming in this book. There are so many OMG moments that have you in utter disbelief. So much deceit and craziness has been written in this one book.
If you enjoy Frieda’s books run and grab this one. If you haven’t read her books and are looking for a jaw dropping, twist and turn type of book run and get this one. Just basically go get this book. I know sure you won’t be disappointed!!!

A married couple, both teachers at the same high school, have fallen into a safe routine in their marriage. One of their students...a troubled girl who got caught up in a wild rumor the previous year...is now a target for bullies. Life is rough for this girl, and she finds comfort in her English/poetry class....this is the husband's class. Now, I know what you're thinking! You may even think you have this storyline figured out very early on!
Guess again! This is a Freida MacFadden psychological thriller!!! You will be shocked as this page turner keeps you guessing! Then, you figure it out...and know what's going to happen...but you will be WRONG! This book is so good and the ending will have you wondering 'wait...what justhappened'!!!?
Incredible!!!
Freida McFadden never disappoints! I highly encourage looking up trigger warnings since it touches on a student/teacher relationship and the student is underage. Aside from that I really liked the book. I felt like the ending was slightly rushed and there were some plot holes. The plot twist however was in Freida McFadden fashion JAW DROPPING! Such a fun read!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.
2.5 stars rounded up
I think that I've realized that Freida McFadden books might not be for me. First, I find that all the female characters in her books are written incredibly weak and reliant upon the men in their lives. And like, sometimes that's necessary for the story, but it certainly is not necessary for every single book a person writes. (No I have not read every book she has written, but I've read three (The Inmate, Never Lie, and now The Teacher). Don't get me wrong, the books are twisty and unexpected at points, but by the time the twists have happened I'm so over the insufferable female characters that I simply don't care about the twists. Also I'll be honest, most of the twists in this book were pretty predictable (except literally one of them). Also, that epilogue is pretty unnecessary but would have made the book a lot better if it had happened in the actual story. Overall, just meh.
I greatly enjoyed The Teacher! This book kept me turning the pages, even taking a small part of my work day to finish with the need to know how it ended! I found myself wanting the best for Addie with all the horrible stuff she was dealing with. This book also had twist after twist that kept guessing until the very last page!
I absolutely love Freida McFadden books and this one was no exception. It had me hooked immediately. I kept trying to guess what was going to happen and it just kept surprising me left and right. Towards the end I was flabbergasted at how the events played out. Thoroughly enjoyed this one and I can't wait for the next Freida book to come out!
What a ride! I can always trust Freida McFadden to deliver a thriller that will have me on the edge of my seat and keep me guessing. Her twists are well-done and come out of nowhere. Her characters are multi-faceted and have so many sides to them. I’ve enjoyed every one of her books that I’ve read and I hope to see more from her soon!
The Teacher
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Holy twisty turns Batman! This just became my new favorite Freida McFadden book. She has outdone herself on this one. I always expect the unexpected with her books but this one took it to another level for me. I flew through this in a day and enjoyed every minute of it. The way my love and hate for the different characters evolved and changed throughout the story was awesome.

First things first was that ending necessary!!! That definitely took a turn I didn’t see coming.
I went into this book totally blind so there was a few big surprises haha this was not what I expected however in the end it was a pretty good read!
There is definitely some triggers with this book so make sure to check those before reading.
I enjoyed reading the fast-paced thriller The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, and was hoping for the same from The Teacher. Unfortunately, The Teacher was a let down for me.
The Teacher drew me in from the beginning, it kept me reading and wanting to know what happened next. But I found the book problematic for a few reasons. First, half of the story is told from the POV of high schooler Addie, and I quickly grew tired of experiencing the narrative through her lens — I was cringing often at Addie’s repeated run ins with a high school bully, her questionable life decisions and overall immature perspective. I also felt like the book was repetitive, there were many details, characteristics, objects (the shoes) that were brought up over and over, to the point where it became annoying.
But by far my biggest problem with the book (which knocked a few stars off for me) was the twist revealed in the Epilogue. I love a good twist, but this one is a massive plot hole, it genuinely makes no sense!
*** Thank you to Net Galley and Poison Pen Press for the ARC in turn for my honest review.
WHOA THE END OF THIS ONE.
I thought we had all the twists but BAM. I love that I can go into a Frieda book knowing there will be twists, do my damndest to try and figure the twist(s) out and be shockingly wrong almost every time.
Secrets abound in this tale of two married teachers who have plenty to hide. Lots of twists and turns with an ending you don't see coming.
Welcome to the lives of Eve, Nate, and Addie. Two are high school teachers, one is a high school student, and all are in the own bit of tangled webs..
I was extremely pumped to finally get a Freida ARC - even though it was only a handful of days before pub date. But, I finished it so quickly that it did not matter! Freida McFadden's writing just draws you in and never lets you back out. I'll admit, I did have a moment or two where I thought to myself "Freida, (gasp) what ARE you thinking with this?!", but in natural fashion, she lands and delivers those moments with killer moments. I especially enjoyed the designer shoe 'problems' in this book, which I believe is her best little added quirk in a book yet!
Thank you to NetGalley, Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC!
I am a die-hard “Freida Readah” but this book in particular blew me away. Since high school, I’ve always been a bit obsessed with the phenomenon of teacher/student romances. We’re gonna place the blame for that on “Pretty Little Liars” but that’s neither here nor there. Imagine my surprise when I not only got a teacher/student romance, but a heck of a thriller and an ending I couldn’t see coming from a mile away, all in the same book! I polished this off in a single four-hour sitting. After the epilogue I just stared at my phone for a solid five minutes trying to figure out what on earth had just happened. This book will take up rent-free space in my brain for a while in the best way possible. An absolute must-read!
Thank you, @netgalley and @poisonedpenpress, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I liked how Freida created a page-turner book! She didn't disappoint with how she grabbed your attention as the pages unfolded. It makes you think hard about where it's going, and she always makes you believe you already know the plot. But I kid you not; she caught me off guard with the plot twist at the end of the book. I liked it, but at the same time, it felt flat.
However, I didn't particularly like the whole focus of the story. I was uncomfortable about the inappropriate relationship and grooming. I also didn't appreciate the open-door scenes in the book. It is unnecessary to add those, especially of the age of the FMC.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I am a huge Freida McFadden fan & I’ll read everything she writes, but this book was not one of my favorites. I’m not a fan of the situation that happens in this book & I feel like I was able to predict a lot of the plot twist. I can’t wait for her next book!
I loved this book. Read it in 2 days and the ending, wowww. I was trying to figure out the twists but never did. Loved the ending. I will recommend this book to all.
WOW! Did not see that coming. Pot meet Kettle. Just wow. seriously the ending of this book is poetic. I have to say this is probably my new favorite for sure. Wow just wow that’s all I can say right now. I could not put this book down, I found myself reading it every single second I could squeeze in. In typical Freida fashion just when you think nothing else could possibly happen you are humbly slapped right back into your seat!! All hail for the queen McFadden. This book is sheer brilliance, I will admit about halfway through I guessed one aspect of it but that ending. 👏 👏 I can NOT recommend this book enough. If you have not gotten it yet you need to RUN, fly, take whatever method you need to purchase this book. This is definitely my new favorite by Frieda McFadden. Please read the warning letter before reading this book. If you have triggers look them up first.
When I saw one reviewer compare Freida McFadden's latest book as the literary equivalent of Pringles: once you pop open the book, you can't stop. And I laughed out loud because it was so true of this book. I read it in one sitting on a weekend day when I SHOULD have been doing important things like cleaning and laundry. That all had to wait, though, because I could not put this book down. Sure to be on many 2024 Top Ten lists, this is the book about, you guessed it, a teacher, her husband, and one of her students and the school scandal(s) that rock their worlds.
