This was a 4.5 for me
Anything from Freida McFadden I want to read. her books are always good fast paced, short chapters. The teacher is a psychological thriller with a plot twist that was sooo good. It has different POV which I love in a book and it follows the teacher Eve, her husband Nathaniel and the student Addie. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC I really appreciate it.
1 ⭐️ i’ve sat with my thoughts for a while and decided that i really didn’t like this book. this book felt like watching an episode of SVU in the worst way possible. i’m really creeped out by the premise of this book and it just gave me the big ick. i go into mysteries and thrillers hoping to have a fun time with the twists and turns, but this one just disturbed me.
basically we’re following a 16 year old girl and two of her 30-year-old+ teachers, who are a married couple. do with that what you will and you can probably guess why i didn’t like this one! heavy on the check your triggers with this one.
thank you to poisoned pen press for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC of The Teacher.
Frieda McFadden has, once again, created another fast-paced, page turning psychological thriller filled with crazy roller coaster twists and turns that continue from the very beginning until the jaw dropping end! Enjoy the ride!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Frieda’s latest masterpiece!
This one kept me guessing and surprised me not once, not twice, but three times with the twists! The very ending had my mind blown, yet it was so realistic like you know something similar has happened dozens of times in real life.
Definitely up there at the top of list with Frieda’s best books!
Popcorn thriller. I could not look away and I needed to know what happened but I was lost with the epilogue making me rate a 3.5 instead of a 4! Parts were cringey but not as bad as The Coworker. Instead of turtles we got designer shoes. I feel like I need to stick to the old Freida and not this new one. Her writing isn’t the same. I see the humor in her writing, which is entertaining, but the characters and plot don’t fully develop.
Since I was entertained the whole way through, with the exception of the epilogue, I ended up giving it 3.5 stars.
Revenge is a dish best served cold... or is it?
When the first sentence of a book starts with ''digging a grave is hard work'' you know you are in for a wild ride.
The Teacher did not disappoint. This story deals with trust issues - and lesson number one is 'trust no one'. Easy if you are a teacher at a posh school and your husband, also a teacher, is a heart throb at school making eyes at everyone except you.
A superb read... this book just made Freida McFadden my new favourite author. She is bringing it!
quote: I wonder how deep a body needs to be buried before the animals can't smell it.
LOVED this book! It was hard to put down! So many unexpected twists and turns! And the very last twist at the end I definitely did NOT see coming!
Freida never disappoints. I knew the minute I started the book, everything else was going to be pushed to the back burner. Dinner? Order take out! Laundry? It can wait. Work? Use that PTO!
Freida, once again, twisted and turned every aspect of this book. Just when I thought I had figured out the twists, a new factor was thrown in. I couldn’t stop reading it. Definitely another top book and 5 star writing! If it has Freida’s name in it, I am clearing my schedule!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! Looking forward to more books this year
As someone who has read all but 2 of the books Freida McFadden has written, I feel qualified to say this is her best work yet.
There were many things I loved about this book.
1. The characters - all of the characters & their relationships were really well fleshed out. You knew who to hate, who to feel sorry for, and who needed a slap in the face.
2. The twists - while I was able to figure out a few of the minor twists, there were two major twists at the very end that genuinely gave me whiplash. I sat there like 🫢 for about 5 minutes before I could finish.
3. The wrap up - in true Freida fashion, everything was wrapped up with a little bow in the epilogue.
4. The unhinged women - love them or hate them, Freida knows how to write a scorned woman & her revenge arc.
There really wasn’t much I didn’t like. As a teacher, there were a few minor times I thought, “that would never happen in a school,” but stranger things have surely happened & been dismissed.
What can I really say, but Wow! I could not put this book down. Every time I thought I figured it out, I was wrong. I absolutely loved the way Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven was intertwined into the way Nate’s story played out. This story was very well thought out and the way the characters were webbed together was amazing. Especially that ending! It makes me wonder though, did Eve know?
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I seriously “let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding” at the plot twists! WHAT?!? Mrs. Freida McFadden has done it again!
The Teacher literally had me in an; on the edge of my seat, can’t stop reading, what could happen next mood. She portrays your typical teenage behavior and mindset so well! (Naive and frustrating mostly!)
I do appreciate how Freida didn’t take the subject matter of this book lightly either. She didn’t portray this sensitive subject in a way that would offend anyone. She makes it known that anyone could fall VICTIM so this type of matter.
I definitely recommend!

Freida McFadden creates a fun and pulpy story with The Teacher filled with twists, turns and unreliable narrators afoot. This book while crazy is a fun read and keeps you glued to the pages the entire time!
The teacher.
Freida McFadden
This a was freaking fantastic book.
This was my first read by this author.
This book was full of lies deceit dishonesty and more deceit, The teacher will keep you glued to your seat.
What I Loved about this book,
The poem. The poem that Gets used.
More than once.
This story was absolutely Phenomenal.
If You're like me and you love a psychological thriller with a twist that Blows you away.
Well This author does not disappoint.
I can say I really love her work. Definitely going to check out more books by her.
Freida McFadden is the queen of twists, and she has done it again! It was very entertaining from beginning to end! This book is great for someone who just LOVES the shock factor and doesn’t worry too much about details. The only reason I lowered my star rating from 4.5 stars was due to the big twist in the epilogue. I felt the twist was a bit unbelievable, and I was left needing more information in the end. If we had one extra chapter from a specific extra character’s POV explaining a few things, this book would have been a huge hit for me!
This was a good book overall, was surprisingly able to figure it out shortly into it. The writing seemed more yound adult than her nor al writing, bot one of the best books by Freida
I truly enjoyed this for my first Frieda McFadden book. It had some small twists and some plots you could see were coming but it pulled its weight through out the book and kept me engaged.
As an avid Frieda fan, this was one of my favorites. This, to me, felt like her darkest book yet and I devoured it. While some twists were slightly predictable, they still had me gasping as they came to fruition. Frieda does not miss when it comes to the pacing of her books and I always love a multi POV. Highly recommend for lovers of a suspense thriller with a little bit of taboo added into it.
Prologue… someone is digging a grave with a hand shovel. Palms are blistered and raw, back aches and this has got to be in he ground before morning. How deep does it need to be to keep the animals from finding whatever the digger is putting into the grave.
Back up three months and meet plain Jane math teacher Eve Bennett. She is preparing for a new year at Caseham High School with her handsome husband and fellow teacher, Nate. Folks wonder how she snagged a man like Nate. Eve sees her class roster and feels disturbed that Addie Severson is in her math class. It was alleged last year that Addie had an affair with math teacher Art Tuttle. Mr. Tuttle has since resigned even though nothing was ever proven. Addie insists nothing inappropriate happened with Tuttle, still her classmates bully her about the rumors, and the school’s staff remain split on whether to believe her. Addie is now the class outcast and is even rejected by her once best friend Hudson. Addie finds refuge from the bullying in Mr. Bennett’s English class as well as his poetry club after school. The two develop a bond over their mutual love of poetry. Quickly, their relationship escalates into inappropriateness. One night, after hosting a dinner party, Eve catches Addie lurking in the bushes near her and Nate’s home. Nate throws it off that she was seeing things or maybe it was an animal. His passive response aggravates Eve and she begins to question her husband’s relationship with this student. But wait, Eve has her own dirty little secrets.
I found myself holding my breath hoping against hope the two would make better decisions.
Author, McFadden delivers jaw-dropping twists that surprised this reader.
The Teacher kept me reading waaaayyy past my bedtime.
This is a thrill, mystery, edgy novel not to be missed.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Freida has left me with my jaw on the floor once again! This was by far her best written book. The characters, the twists, the turns, the plot, the ending!! I cannot get enough!! Freida, you are a genius and a mastermind!
Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, Mandy Chahal and the queen herself, Freida McFadden, for allowing me an advanced copy of this book!
This book was captivating from the start. I could not put this book down and was thinking about it anytime I couldn’t read it. Personally, I love fast paced reads and this pulled me out of my reading slump! Overall, it was a good story and a highly recommend. The ending is a rollercoaster and truly jaw dropping. My only complaint, I felt there was some holes in the plot/twist that I wished would’ve been cleared up a bit more at the end. It was making me question my reading comprehension level, haha. Overall, this is one of the best thrillers I’ve read!
